That Shield Defies Physics
Date of Scene: 12 May 2024
Location: Avengers Mansion - Training Facility
Synopsis: Wanda and Cap work out against fake bad guys in the Training Room before heading up for food in Avengers Mansion.
Cast of Characters: Steve Rogers, Wanda Maximoff

Steve Rogers has posed:
An assailant is hiding behind a car as the Training Room has been set up as a street on which a fight is underway. It lacks the capabilities of the X-men's Danger Room, but does have enough holographic capability to at least create the appearance.

The sound of metal ping is all the warning the gunman gets as he turns just in time to take a shield to the chin. He goes down, the shield banking off a building nearby, then flying above the car where the rapidly moving vibranium disc is snatched out of the air by Captain America.

Wearing his costume, he immediately pivots to use the shield to block incoming gunfire as he ducks behind the shield's cover, waiting for the gunmen to reload.

Wanda Maximoff has posed:
Training day with the Avengers is always a good opportunity for teammates to gel, specially considering how different they all are and how varied their backgrounds are. For who could tell that a soldier boy lost in time and a Scarlet Witch out of Transia would one day be part of the mightiest team in the world?

So it is that while Steve handles the ground Wanda has taken to the air, wind whipping about her as her hands glow a bright red, keeping the redheaded woman aloft, long blood red jacket flapping as she takes in the situation unfolding, the various assailants converging on Steve. The gunfire hits that shield yet the gunmen never get a chance to reload as the next moment Wanda unleashes a barrage of witchbolts, sending a couple of those men flying (or in this case disappearing when the holographic simulation deems them defeated).

"I thought we were doing a simulation that would be adequate to our powers, Steve." thick accent as the woman speaks from above. She clearly thinks herself better than what is being tossed at them. Dismissive even.

Something that would be a mistake, considering the lone, stealthy shooter lining up a shot from a nearby building, on her blind spot.

Steve Rogers has posed:
Steve's trust in his teammate is enough that he's already moving towards the next opponent, trusting in the Scarlet Witch taking out the gunmen who had him pinned down. He starts moving, a flash from a window above drawing his attention. His shield flies immediately, slamming into the barrel and driving the scope back into the sniper's eye. He won't be aiming at anything for awhile.

Steve sprints across the street, catching the shield on the way, and vaulting over a car just in time to catch another squad of gunmen emerging around the corner of an alley. The first one is grabbed by an arm and a leg and swing around Steve once like an Olympic hammer-thrower before he's launched into his comrades.

They all go down, and a few punches and blows of his shield remove them from the fight.

Steve straightens then, catching a deep breath and look up at Wanda, a hand going to his ear over his earbud. "Did you just say it was too easy?" he asks with a grin.

Which is when a pair of assailants in jetpacks swoop down on Wanda from either side. Both of them strike out with some kind of electro-whips, trying to wrap them about her and shock the flying Avenger!

Wanda Maximoff has posed:
The shield flies past her at speed, some of that long red hair swaying at the /woosh/ the shield does moving past her. She looks over her shoulder a split of a second later, spotting the enemy that was taken out by Steve, expression turning a touch more serious, "Perhaps I have spoken too soon." she muses while Steve is mowing through a squad down on street level. "Thanks." she says of her teammate having her back. "Allow me to return the favor..."

Wanda gestures with her hand, over to the shield that was clattering down to the ground after being tossed at that sniper. The shield stops falling, hovering mid-air as the witch brings her fingers together, telekinetic energy envelopping it. Right in time for those assailants to come moving in. She jerks her arms in a swift, broad gesture, the shield flying to take a pair of those flying enemies, sending them falling. More swarm at her, and while the simulation isn't perfect she can feel the sting of those electro-whips licking close to her bodice as she dodges and weaves in the air. It won't feel like the real thing but it will still hurt if she's caught in one.

"Captain, catch on your six." Another gesture and the shield is thrown towards Steve at speed for him to catch. Just in time as more men turn a corner, weapons aimed at Steve and starting to shoot.

Steve Rogers has posed:
A group wielding clubs have converged from all sides. Steve ducks under a swinging weight of wood, throwing a punch into the man's gut and doubling him over, then rolling overtop him so the next blow aimed at him lands on the back of the man's head instead.

Another club is blocked with Steve's arm. That might leave a bruise. And then he flips the man over his shoulder before pivoting and ducking another blow.

Steve jumps as he hears Wanda, reaching up to catch the shield and swing it down, severing a club and following it up with a kick to the man's midsection. "I put a high randomness on it so not quite sure what we'll get!" he calls up to Wanda as he's still fighting in the middle of the four men left standing.

Wanda Maximoff has posed:
The moment when Wanda sends that shield flying back to Steve means her defenses are open for a couple of seconds. Enough for one of those shock whips to graze across her back, making her gasp. To her credit she doesn't fall, instead gritting her teeth and turning in the air. Eyes blaze red as she catches the jetpack-flying man in the air, kinetically holding him as if he was a doll.

She gestures and the man comes crashing down to where Steve is fighting with that group, taking one of the club-wielding men with him as the two roll on the ground. And a moment later Wanda is landing right close to Steve, blocking one of those clubs with a kinetic shield and sending him flying the moment after, hands spread forward.

"I can't wait for the green goo aliens to come out." she says over her shoulder to Cap, exertion felt in her voice at the workout.

Steve Rogers has posed:
Steve parries a club with his shield and then sends another man flying twenty feet back with a boot to the chest. The 'men' are actually robotic simulacrums, that will be repaired for the next training scenario.

Steve pivots, ducking down and swinging a foot to sweep out the legs of the remaining club-wielder, dropping the man and then incapacitating him with a quick punch to the face.

Straightening, Steve looks around and lets out a puff of breath. He relaxes back to back against Wanda as he looks about to see if that's the end of the simulation or not. "I can do without being covered in green goo today," he admits in that easy going, light-hearted way he has, often even when things are at their bleakest.

"I'm thinking... French toast?" he suggests when no more opponents are forthcoming, and the lighting changes to indicate the end of the scenario.

Wanda Maximoff has posed:
The last robotic simulacrum is a tenacious one, moving past her magical defenses to brandish that club at Wanda. He would be successful perhaps if Wanda was still the woman she was before joining the Avengers. But now? She had trained with some of the best heroes in the world, Steve being one of them. She ducks under the club, delivering a punch to the chest and a kick to the knee that sends the simulacrum down.

She is breathing harder now, noticeable in the raspiness of her voice when she replies, "You read my mind." she says. Unlike Steve she can't really do it all day!

"Has everyone told you that shield really defies physics?" She tells him, turning to look his way when the lights shift and the scenario ends.

Steve Rogers has posed:
Steve Rogers takes on a more relaxed stance now that simulation is over. Which means he's still standing there with exquisite posture and balanced on his feet. Just not actually arms at the ready. A soft laugh is given and Steve gives a wry smile. "I think maybe it has been mentioned once or twice before," he says, nodding and flashing the grin over to his teammate.

He moves the shield from his arm to his back where it is better out of the way, and then moves over to the controls to open up the door. "Do you have French toast in Transia? Or I imagine you do, of some sort. Fried bread but by a different name?" he asks as he makes ready to head for the kitchen.

Wanda Maximoff has posed:
"Of course we do." Wanda assures Steve, brushing some hair away from her face and over behind her ears. As for the name? She gives it a brief dramatic pause before sharing, "We just call it french bread.", lips twisting in faint grin, "Mostly to not give the French the satisfaction." European rivalries go back centuries after all.

"We have our special way of preparing it though. I will show you." she starting on her way alongside Steve towards the kitchen.

Seems Steve will be getting some more culinary knowledge about Transia this morning.

Steve Rogers has posed:
The kitchen is empty. It's a little later for breakfast, even for those who sleep in, and perhaps still early for lunch. Steve goes to the fridge, getting eggs out for Wanda, knowing she'll need that much. And he also gets out a pitcher of juice and pours two glasses of it, offering one over to Wanda.

"How are your family doing?" Steve asks. Which for most people can be a pretty large topic. For someone whose Father is Magneto, whose sister is Queen of Genosha, and a brother that is an Avenger with a kid? It can be a REALLY large topic.

Wanda Maximoff has posed:
The walk back to the kitchen is more than enough time for Wanda to get her breathing in order even if there's still a faint sheen to her skin after the exertion. Shower may be a thing soon enough. But first? It's time for some not-French toast.

"Thanks." She taking the glass to drink it down on one go before moving to get the toast ready. Which in a way won't be too different from what Steve may be used to, "That's the kind of question that may take us hours to get through." she tells the man with a faint smile, "Pietro is fine though. He was around a few weeks back. Hunting for supplies for the kid." she is still very surprised that Pietro actually had children. Or that he married before Wanda did! "Never expected him to be the first to settle down, you know?"

She is taking care of the eggs now, "I haven't spoken with Magneto in a rather long while now, so I wouldn't know how that side of the family is doing." it said with a touch of sharpness to her voice that is telling it's a delicate topic.

Steve Rogers has posed:
Steve Rogers leans against the counter, sipping his juice and listening. The true blue eyes compassionate and caring as Wanda discusses her family. He gives a faint nod that shows he understands the sharpness in her voice. Steve having confronted Magneto when he was destroying train shipments not that long ago, before the elder mutant had surrendered to authorities.

"It is surprising about Pietro, but a good one. Probably means he found the right person," Steve says, focusing on the brighter part of the family tree. "So what exactly do is different with your style of french toast?" he inquires, watching Wanda to see what she's doing as she sets about making them. And as always, ready the jump in and help however he can.

Wanda Maximoff has posed:
"That's always it, isn't it?" Emerald gaze turning to observe Steve a few moments, "Finding the right person. I am glad for him, and I can see the good Mycolla is doing to him as well." warmth in her expression, "What about you? Have you found the right person, Steve?"

Wisely enough they seem to leave the talk about Magneto, and in a way also Lorna, set aside for the moment, attention back to the work at hand, "The trick is beating the eggs just right." she says, now going through that even as she warms up the skillet.

"Dash of milk and sugar..." she adding it to the mix on a bowl, "Now dip the slices a few seconds on each side here... And after, time to cook." she directs the other Avenger.

Steve Rogers has posed:
Steve just gives a slight grin and takes a sip from his glass. "Apparently not, my dance card is pretty empty at the USO events," he says in a light-hearted tone. "I've had times I thought maybe I had. But events seem to show otherwise," he says in a tone that suggests he's keeping a positive view about it. Or at least trying to project one.

Steve comes over a little nearer to watch, though gets the skillet ready so it will be sufficiently warm when Wanda is done preparing the bread for cooking.

"Is it too personal to ask the question back of you? I know there's been some romance in your life," Steve tells her, "If I've tried to make sure there was as much as privacy around it as anyone might like."

Wanda Maximoff has posed:
"You have always been a half-full glass kind of man. I like that about you." Wanda comments about the light-hearted tone in which he seems to take that topic of a special someone. The mix is finally done, and with the dip of the bread also made on the mix she directs, "All's ready. Now move the bread to the skillet and we let it turn golden. Jam is optional." she grinning in the end.

The question done her way has Wanda considering a few moments, "Unlike you I am more of a half-empty glass kind of woman. Disappointment can be crushing for me, but there's romance in my life right now." she admits to Steve, reaching up to her bodice and the silver chain around her neck. Pulling up she reveals a pendant of an arrow which may be telling on who exactly she has in her life right now. Someone right close to home!

"Where we will go with it? We take in one day at a time. But I feel .., happy." a soft glint on those green eyes of hers.
