Cast of Characters: Evan Sabahnur, Raven Darkholme

Evan Sabahnur has posed:
As usual, Evan is working at Hope House, keeping things running as smoothly as possible. Today's work is repairing some drywall that got damaged when one of the kids x-genes activated, resulting in a number of small holes in the wall. Evan's got a tub of spackle and is filling each hole in neatly.

The kid in question is sitting on the couch, watching him and saying "I'm really sorry, that's never happened before." Evan replies, "Don't worry about it, most of us have pretty random power activations the first time. You'll get the hang of it."

He looks over when Mystique walks into the room, saying "Hey there, how's things?"

Raven Darkholme has posed:
After two weeks of activities with the Brotherhood, Mystique began thinking about Evan, and the other young mutants who had signed on with the Brotherhood. With the changes to the organization going into effect, it wasn't the place for them.

Dressed in black leather pants with a black leather triangle halter top, and black combat boots, she entered Hope House in all her cobalt skinned glory. Taking in the place, she spotted Evan working to repair the drywall and headed over to him.

"Afternoon Evan," she offered first, looking from him to the boy on the couch and back again. "Things are well enough, thank you for asking."

It didn't take her long to figure out the little holes were from the young man on the couch, so she offered him a smile and a little wave as she said, "With a little practice and patience, you'll be alright."

Attention back to Evan, she adds, "When you have a moment, I'd like to speak to you in private."

Evan Sabahnur has posed:
Evan nods, "Sure, no problem." He puts the cover back on the spackle and puts it aside. "This one isn't a critical repair, so it can wait. Comeon, we'll talk in the office. Dave, go play, just remember what it felt like when you did this" he taps the wall "and make sure you're not facing anyone if you start feeling that way again. I can fix walls, people are a lot more difficult."

He leads her back to the office and sits at the desk, waving her to one of the chairs. The office is neat, with a couple file cabinets and a computer on the desk. "Grab a seat. What did you want to talk about?"

Raven Darkholme has posed:
Another encouraging smile if offered to Dave before Mystique nods and follows Evan back to the office.

"Young emerging mutant, you handled the situation very well." She moves to a chair and sits down as she speaks. "Always a beautiful thing to me, when a new mutant discovers their abilities."

Getting herself settled, she changes the subject to her reason for visiting. "The Brotherhood is changing course," she begins. "The direction will no longer be a healthy one for a young man like yourself. I respect you too much to let you take part in what the majority now feels needs to be done."

Pulling a slow, deep breath in, she offers Evan a nod, "But I have an alternative for you, one that is better suited to your ideals."

Evan Sabahnur has posed:
He looks across the desk for her and shakes his head, having a very good idea of what she means. "You're giving up too soon. We can make a difference without hurting people. Heck, look at the time it took for segregation to end. That was the work of decades, and all those folks were facing was a different skin color. I think we can get there, but if you start using violence again, it's just going to scare them and make it worse."

He shakes his head and sighs, continuing, "I mean, trust me, I know what's going on out there. I see it every day in the mutants who come here for assistance. They've lost jobs, lost families, been spit on and attacked... it's bad, really bad. Just about as bad as it was to be black in the 1920's, but they stuck to their guns and put in the time and they eventually got their rights."

He looks down at the desk, then back over at her and adds, "It took them a really long time, and I know how it burns every time I see some young mutant beaten just for being different. But let me ask you.. what do you think would have happened if the black people had started attacking the whites? My guess would be the police and national guard moving in, probably the government passing even more restrictive laws, and they might still be without any rights."

He shrugs, "I doubt I'll convince you, but it's something to think about. Big changes just don't happen quickly, that's the simple truth. Hell, look what happened with the twin towers. Terrorists actually managed to flat out destroy them and kill thousands, but they're still just terrorists, it didn't improve things, and I'd say that the Gulf War actually made things far, far worse than before they did it."

Raven Darkholme has posed:
Under normal circumstances Mystique concealed what she was feeling, allowing no indication of emotion in her expression, eyes or body language. It had become her natural state, the appearance of being cold and distant or completely neutral.

Today, at this moment, it was different. Sitting there looking at Evan, he could see in her eyes and on her face the pain and regret. "Magneto has returned," she says first, in a low, soft tone. "Along side Queen Lorna, they are both certain of the change to the Brotherhood. I will admit to you that I am torn. In many ways what we tried to do failed, in others there was success."

Folding her hands in her lap, the neutral expression slipped back into place. "I cannot alter the change of the Brotherhood's course, it is set in stone, but there is another group being formed called Unity. It is directly connected to X-Corp and Da Costa International."

Lacing her fingers together she offers Evan a smile. "Unity will fill the void that the Brothrehood changing will create. With that team, I will be able to continue to do things in a way less violent, and perhaps..." she pauses, shaking her a little. "I can't do it as Mystique, so I will be using an alias. Roberto Da Costa is already aware of this."

Another smile appears on her face, not a faked one that would be part of a mask. "My hope, and that I have any hope at all is astonishing, but my hope is that with Unity I will be able to continue the good work, and I believe it will be a perfect place for you."

Evan Sabahnur has posed:
He nods, "Yeah, I suppose with those two teaming up there isn't much chance to have a dissenting opinion." He smiles gently, "Though seeing that you're iffy about it makes me feel a little better. Not that you're torn, but that there really is a part of you that wants to do things the right way, but you're caught up in something bigger than you. And I think I know you too well to even entertain the thought that you might leave the Brotherhood to work with this team you're suggesting."

He sits back in the chair and continues, "But I am interested, you know quite well that I want to help our brothers and sisters who aren't in a situation where they can come to someplace like Hope House. Having these places is important, but we have to make sure other mutants are free to ask for help. So yeah, tell me more about it, I'm interested."
