Cameron Chase is a Lieutenant with a Special Unit in the NYPD that deals with superhuman situations. She is respected in her team, which is a mix of powered and non-powered beings who work together to ensure the safety of the world around them by enforcing laws. Her view on vigilantes is about the same as villains, due to the trauma of her past. She doesn't like people keeping secrets from those they care about.

Timeline

Timeline:
1995: April 30th Cameron was born in Gotham City where her family lived. Her sister, Terry, came into the world five years later.

2000: Her father was Walter Chase, who was also a costumed hero called the Acrobat. He created a group called The Justice Experience. During a battle with the House of Pain, a woman named Caroline was killed. She had been the love of Doctor Larry Trapp and he developed a hatred for everyone in costume which lead to him seeking vengeance on them all. He followed Chase home and killed him in his own house. Five-year-old Cameron found her father's body with his throat torn out. It was only then she learned that her father was a costumed hero, and it colored her view of such beings for the rest of her life. This loss was the motivating factor of her becoming obsessed with truth. Shortly after, her mother moved them California where they moved around quite a lot during her childhood.

2013: Graduated high school with honors, earning a scholarship. She went to the University of California Berkley. During this time, she worked as a private investigator, honing her skills in observation while earning money so she wouldn't be reliant on her mother. Took a heavy schedule in order to graduate sooner.

2017: Graduated from UC Berkley with her Master's degree in Criminal Justice and a Bachelor's degree in Criminal Psychology. Officially opened her Private Investigations business in San Francisco. During her time running Cameron Chase Investigations, she learned about her powers accidentally when she blocked an energy blast aimed at her. Though it was surely just a lucky moment for her, or that's what she told herself. Even when she learned she could do more. She prefers not to acknowledge they exist.

2019: After helping solve a crime involving a missing girl from New York City, she came to the attention of NYPD and was offered a position and accepted. As the years passed, her powers helped several times in dealing with powered individuals. Though it was always written off to luck and the fact she had abilities was not officially known.

2021: Worked her way up to the rank sergeant and was brought in on a special squad created to deal with situations involving beings with powers beyond those of a human. Be they metahuman, mutant, alien, supernatural, etc.

2023: Promoted to Lieutenant over this squad. They accept powered and non-powered members of any type and are the antithesis of the belief that all police are against powered beings in general or mutants specifically, as they have several of each on their squad.

Personality

Jaded:
Cameron is a bit jaded about the world. Having started from such a dark place with the loss of her father and finding his body at the age of five, she grew up faster than anyone should. It gave her a lot of issues she hasn't bother seeing a psychologist or therapist about because she sees that as weakness. Instead, she hides behind a fascade of sarcasm and dark humor, along with purposefully pushing people's buttons to irritate them. That helps keep people at arm's length. She even took up smoking just because it irritated people.

Justice:
Due to violence affecting her early life with the death of her father, Cameron chose the pursuit of truth which eventually ended up with her in the law enforcement field. Cameron believes in justice and that people should face consequences for actions that are outside the rules of law. She doesn't believe in people being above the law for any reason. Everyone deserves the same consequences for their actions and someone getting special handling, just because of some sort of thing that sets them apart from most of the populace, is wrong.

Samaritan:
Cameron is a good person who follows what is considered to be morally right in most things. She does like to help people, though she won't be admitting it aloud. Otherwise, she wouldn't have become an investigator (private and for law enforcement). She is pleased when she is able to help someone through their situations, or to protect others.

Truth:
Cameron doesn't like mysteries nor does she like people hiding the truth, particularly from those close to them. It is what has driven her since the death of her father. His family had no idea he was a hero and those sorts of secrets being withheld from those that are supposed to be most important to someone has given her a very specific viewpoint with it comes to costumed heroes and villains. She has a laser focus and is driven to find the truth, sometimes to the point that she can have blinders to the dangers she might be putting herself in.

Powers

Power Blocking:
Part of her power is to block powers that are used against her. This is not a conscious ability. It is instinctive and simply happens. It does not work at all times but when the threat is high enough, it will kick in. For example. If someone is throwing a fireball her direction, the fireball might be deflected away from her or simply dissipate harmlessly into nothing. However, if someone with super strength were to pick her up and throw her, she would be thrown just like anyone else. If that same person with super strength were to try to tear her limbs off, they might find themselves too weak. Or they might lose their grip on her. Or any number of other possibilities that will keep her from such severe damage. She cannot block technology, such as Iron Man's armor or a Green Lantern ring. (OOC: Everything is consent based with her powers.)

Power Negation:
The conscious part of her power is to negate the powers of others. This can be alien, mutant, metahuman, etc. She can see when someone has powers. For her it is like a cloud of insects or a dark aura around them. If she waves that away with her thoughts, it removes the powers of the person in question. This is not permanent and only lasts for five minutes, unless she concentrates on them for longer. They have to be within about 50 feet of her to affect them. Once she stops focusing on them, their powers return in five minutes. She can concentrate on up to three targets at the same time. Unlike her power blocking, this can happen even when the person is not directing any sort of attack in Cameron's direction. They do need to be within her line of sight for her to negate their powers. Though once the powers are blocked, they can move out of her line-of-sight, but Cameron must mentally continue to concentrate on that negation. (OOC: Everything is consent based with her powers.)

Skills

Combat:
Cameron trained in hand-to-hand early in life, specializing in Krav Maga. This was something she started when she was in high school and continued into her time at NYPD. She could instruct if she chose and does assist in training hand-to-hand for officers in her unit. She would be around the level of military special forces. This also applies to fighting with weapons though that is more from her time with the NYPD where she learned to use batons, normal and collapsible, in addition to tasers and pepper spray.

Firearms:
Cameron has trained extensively in the use of firearms. She can use anything from a revolver to a fully automatic weapon. She is an excellent shot. Generally she will use a semi-automatic handgun as part of her duties or a shotgun but she has been exposed to sniper rifles and automatic weapons in tactical training for her current unit.

Leadership:
Cameron is skilled in leadership, having been a natural even before she joined the NYPD. She is able to make decisions on the fly and knows how to keep the troops motivated. Or in line, when it is necessary. She always tries to lead by example, never asking anything of her people that she wouldn't do herself.

Multilingual:
Cameron is American and English as her native language. Due to the mix of people where she was raised, she has also learned to speak/read/write in Mandarin Chinese, Russian, Spanish, and Korean. For languages that are close to these, she might be able to pick up pieces (such as Portuguese) but she is not fluent in them in any way.

Observant:
Cameron is highly intelligent and very observant. This can be through visual, social, or psychological cues. She applies these to her work and her life. This is something she has trained herself to improve, though she was born with the inherent trait. With her training in forensic psychology, she is able to analyze more than the average person.

Police Procedure:
Cameron is familiar with the laws of New York City, the county, and the state, as well as several federal laws since they do come into play in her job as with the New York Police Department. She has been trained in the skills necessary to perform her job, staring from a beat cop and now up to Lt. Over a special unit within the agency. These skills include such things as investigation of crimes, interrogation of witnesses/suspects, defensive driving, use of firearms, report writing, proper behavior when appearing in court, and so forth.

Private Investigator:
Cameron is a licensed private investigator in California and New York. She is skilled in all the areas necessary in order to perform her task in this role. She's skilled in picking up on clues and following them, surveillance methods such as listening devices and photography/videography, lockpicking (though she doesn't talk about that one because of course she wouldn't do anything illegal), computer languages and hacking into systems, etc.

Resources

Chasemobile:
Unlike many New Yorkers. Chase has her own car she mockingly calls the Chasemobile. At least, to herself, though never to other people. This is a 1972 Chevy Camaro that has seen better days, but it runs and gets here where she needs to go when she goes outside the city.

Contacts:
As an officer, Cameron developed plenty of contacts on the street that might provide her with information should she need it. As a private investigator, she has even more that might help her with equipment or the like. She has an old friend named Knob from her days in California as a Private Investigator who will help should she need it. Or more likely drag her into situations that are more dangerous than she might've faced otherwise. So also has her family and friends (such as her IT savvy ex boyfriend) but she tries to never drag them into things outside just social contact, as she knows they have their own lives to lead. If push came to shove though, she would.

Nypd:
As a member of the NYPD and in a special unit dealing with situations that involve powers or Capes, Cameron has access to all the resources of the department. They pay her salary, enough for her to have a comfortable apartment in the city. They provide her with a vehicle she can use, weapons, and every sort of equipment that might be needed to apply in her field. These can include night vision, camouflage tech, rubber bullets, bean bag rounds, concussive rounds, white noisers to block eavesdroppers, guns of many types, ammunition, manpower, etc.

P.i. Licenses:
Cameron is a license private investigator in both California and New York. She is registered in each state and must maintain certification to be able to practice these jobs in these jurisdictions. It gives her a bit more freedom when she's sitting in a car taking pictures of people without their knowing should the cops come asking questions.

Weaknesses

Conflicted:
While Cameron has powers and she has used her powers many times when absolutely necessary, they are not her first choice in any given situation. She would prefer they weren't even there, though they are helpful in the performance of her duties with the Special Unit. It isn't that she has a problem with having powers or people having powers in general, but she doesn't like that it leads most people to lying to their family/friends in order to selfishly put on their mask/cape and go out into the world. That leads to children losing their parents, her own personal trauma and something she wants to prevent. Thus why she works within the lines of the law.

Loved Ones:
Cameron still has her mother and sister who can be used against her should someone know about them. She also has friends such as Knob and her ex-boyfriend Peter. This can make them targets for Cameron's enemies.

Powers:
Cameron's powers are limited. While they will sometimes deflect powers aimed her way, other times they might not. While she can sometimes consciously remove someone's powers, other times it's an utter fail. This is due to the fact she tries not to use them for the most part, meaning she doesn't have the practice that might overcome these difficulties.

Smoker:
Cameron smokes. A lot. The thing is, she didn't do it because she wanted to have that nicotine fix. She started smoking because people in San Francisco hated it. And it amused her to push their buttons. Now that she's in New York where people don't seem as offended by it, it isn't fun now. She's sure she could quit. If she wanted to. Maybe.

Trauma:
Cameron found her father's dead body when she was five year old. This is a trauma that has molded her into the woman she became. She has never tried to deal with this trauma in a healthy manner such as seeking therapy. Instead, she just has bottled it up and uses it to drive her along her path in life. Situations that remind her of her own childhood can be upsetting for her, though she will try to hide it behind sarcasm and scathing words. It's her way of keeping everyone from getting too close.
