A swashbuckling hero whose existence supposedly helped to inspire the figure of Robin Hood, Fandral the Swift is a master swordsman from the land of Asgard. A friend to the mighty Thor and a member of the Warriors Three, Fandral has a quick tongue and a quicker blade, fighting for the forces of good with a roguish sparkle in his eye and a barmaid near at hand.

Timeline

Timeline:
* 1106: Fandral is born to a merchant family in Asgard. Minor aristocrats, he's raised to learn to hunt and fight and serve the will of Allfather Odin.
* 1155: Fandral enters a period of service to the Army of Asgard, wherein he meets the men who will become his lifelong friends, Volstagg and Hogun. They fight to defend Asgard as part of the military and come to befriend both the Lady Sif and the mighty Thor.
* 1276: A brief visit to Midgard creates a bit of a controversy when Fandral becomes involved in a battle against an oppressive local lord. His talent for archery and derring-do is just one of the varied legends that mingled together to form the folklore of the heroic Robin Hood.
* 1300: After returning to Asgard, Fandral, Volstagg and Hogun form the Warriors Three and become an independent force for good in Asgard, adventuring and travelling together to mete out justice and rid the land of evil. Over hundreds of years, they become increasingly the best known adventurers and among the most legendary heroes of the realm, although their reputation doesn't ever seem to spread to Midgard in the way of the Asgardian gods and so they mostly remain unknown on Earth.
* 2018: As Thor has established a place for himself on Midgard, Fandral makes his way to the Rainbow Bridge and begins to make occasional visits to the mortal realm in search of adventure and amusement, although he always goes back home to Asgard before getting in too much trouble. Well. Usually.

Personality

Carnal:
Sometimes called hedonism, Fandral simply appreciates the simple pleasures of life: wine, women, song, a soft bed, the warm sun, the surge of blood in your veins after defeating an enemy. He leaves philosophy for others.

Jovial:
Fandral tends to be lighthearted, cheerful and kind. While he has a sharp tongue, he doesn't tend to use it towards the frail or the soft. He has an optimistic spirit and tries to make the best of his circumstances.

Peacock:
Fandral is a show-off. He likes attention and he tends towards dramatic and impressive feats as a way to gain it. He wears finery and likes sparkly things.

Rogueish:
While generally a good guy, Fandral isn't straight laced and he hasn't much use for authority. He tends to think of himself as a man of the people and has the occasional bouts of noble defiance.

Character Sheet

Powers

Asgardian Physiology:
Fandral is a prototypical Asgardian, a denizen of the Shining Realm and, as such, is far more than human. He possesses superhuman strength enabling him to casually lift boulders or knock aside brick walls, measured by his ability to lift/press around thirty tons. He has stamina exponentially greater than a human being, letting him fight for hours and potentially days at a time without rest. His body is more resistant to imagery, with most standard human weapons blunted against his dense skin and able to withstand falls from great height or blows from a superhuman source with highly reduced damage (if you don't count his pride).
He is even more dextrous than the average Asgardian, known for his incredible control, speed and agility and he can move with the kind of blinding speed that would let him deflect bullets with a sword. As an Asgardian, he is resistant to conventional terrestrial disease and poison (although there are Asgardian versions of both to which he would be vulnerable). His body regenerates at a remarkable rate, healing simple sprains and small fractures within an hour or two and more serious injuries in less than a day, although decapitation or serious mortal harm can still be a problem without medical intervention.

Skills

Allspeak:
Fandral possesses Allspeak, allowing him to understand, read and speak most languages, although some languages of magick may still be beyond him.

Archery:
Fandral is a remarkable marksman with a bow and arrow. He can hit dead center on a target at hundreds of paces, can perform trick shots and deflections and generally is adept at all the Robin Hood stuff.

Equestrian:
Fandral is a skilled horseman and rider and can perform combat while mounted.

Japery:
Fandral has a sharp tongue and a will to use it. He loves to belittle and mock others, especially the cruel, the privileged and the prideful. He is gifted in sarcasm and can craft an insult potent enough to curl a troll's toes.

Ranger:
Fandral has travelled in the wilds for many years. He can hunt and track like an expert, make fires, craft snares, move without leaving a mark through growth and can recognize and deal with most animals.

Sailor:
Fandral has sailed on many voyages and is an experienced hand at sea with crafts both large and small. Don't ask him about engines, though. He doesn't know anything about engines.

Swashbuckling:
Fandral's superhuman attributes make it perhaps less spectacular that he's so spectacular as an athlete, but he'd never admit as much. He's capable of acrobatic feets, rope swinging, feats of strength and standing leaps and other kinds of derring do that make him the swashbuckler that he is today. He fights pretty well, too.

Swordsmanship:
Fandral is perhaps the greatest swordsman in the history of Asgard (he would certainly argue he is). He's a tremendous combatant capable of many styles of fencing, using virtually any blade with a virtuoso's aplomb. He can defend as well as he can attack and often lingers in that stage, fending off his enemies simply for the pleasure of showing that he can.

Resources

Fimbuldraugr:
Fandral's personal sword is known to some as the Whispering Spirit. It is a blade of incredible durability, far denser than ordinary steel, capable of slicing through even dense materials like brick or stone without becoming blunted (and, needless to say, cutting through flesh and bone like warm butter). It isn't quite enchanted, nor as indestructible as adamantium or uru, but nonetheless is far beyond a conventional mortal sword.

Firehooves:
Fandral's horse, a steed of great rapidity and renown, envied by horsemen throughout the Nine Realms.

Heroic Figure:
Fandral has a somewhat legendary status among the people of Asgard. Many tales are told of his triumphs and his failings alike and he can usually get a free round of drinks and much admiration at taverns and villages throughout the land. Unfortunately, he's still mostly unknown on Midgard, unless you count that pesky 'Robin Hood' thing back in the Dark Ages.

Warriors Three:
Fandral is one of a tight-knit band of heroes known as the Warriors Three, alongside his comrades Volstagg and Hogun. They are often in each other's company and are as close as brothers, albeit brothers who bicker. They also count among their friendships many of the heroic gods of Asgard, most notably the Mighty Thor and the Lady Sif.

Weaknesses

Ego:
Asgardian morality goes relatively easy on the sin of pride, but Fandral has enough for two men. He highly regards his own abilities and often sings his own praises to the point of embellishment. He underestimates opponents, bites off more than he can chew and sometimes alienates allies with his bluster and braggadocio.

Enemies:
Like many heroes of Asgard and allies of Thor, Fandral has made a lot of enemies, some of them gods and many of them monsters. He must always be alert and prepared to fight should these threats rear their usually ugly heads.

Flashy:
Fandral doesn't blend very well in Midgard. He's visibly anachronistic, loud and dashing. While capable of basic stealth, of course, he tends to attract attention and isn't likely to pass for a simple mortal fellow in cosplay for very long.

Tomfoolery:
Fandral doesn't always takes things seriously. He likes to have fun and, like a cat, he tends to play with his opponents. He can make jokes when it isn't appropriate and can make mistakes while he's trying to show off. He also sometimes just irritates certain people, especially those of a more serious and somber persona (*cough* Hogun *cough*).
