The lost third Summers brother, his parents were abducted by the Shi'ar, and he was taken from his mother after she died at Majestor D'Ken's hand. Raised to serve the Imperial Guard and as a tool for the Emperor's schemes, he gained a measure of freedom after their defeat at the M'Kraan Crystal. Saved by the rebel Shi'ar Deathbird, he serves as her General and enforcer in a war fought across their galaxy.

Timeline

Timeline:
* 2002: Christopher Summers' private airplane is shot down by a Shi'ar spaceship. While presumed dead, Christopher and Katherine Summers are transported aboard the Shi'ar ship. Their two children, Scott and Alex, escape by parachute. Taken before then Shi'ar Majestor D'Ken Neramani, Christopher eventually escapes to become the rebel and space pirate, Corsair. Katherine is killed during those events, and her unborn third child, who they had planned to name Gabriel, is removed by the Shi'ar.

* 2006-13: After artificial age acceleration, the child undergoes rigorous training under the Imperial Guard.

* 2014: D'Ken sends one of his top intelligence officers, Davan Shakari, to Earth. Gabriel is part of his force of Guardsmen. It is his first opportunity to see the planet of his birth, which provokes latent psychic recollections of his mother's murder at D'Ken's hands. He takes the name Vulcan from Earth myth.

* 2015: D'Ken's sister, Deathbird, attempts to take the throne, using the Brood as allies. This triggers the Phalkon prophecy, which fascinates D'Ken. He tasks Shakari with observing the host after she is tracked to Earth.

* 2021: D'Ken launches an attack on Earth, hoping to seize the Phalkon's power. They use Gabriel's energy manipulation abilities to sever the Phalkon - the Phoenix Force - from Jean Grey during a battle at her family home. Traveling to M'Kraan, D'Ken plans to use it to control an ancient crystal artifact there. Vulcan has secretly informed Deathbird, and plans to betray D'Ken in the final moments. However, the X-Men defeat them (Karma seizes control of Vulcan during the fight), and the crystal ejects them after the Phoenix rebinds with Jean. Deathbird spirits Gabriel away.

* 2022: In the aftermath, Lilandra takes power in the Empire. However, in the state of chaos, Deathbird is able to gain more allies, and induce defections and factionalism in the Imperial Guard. Vulcan becomes her Praetor.

* 2023: The Battle of Zegaria IV. Deathbird lays a trap for the Imperial Navy at a colony world. Vulcan leads her rebel Guard against their loyalist counterparts. Lilandra's forces are destroyed, although the Earth hero Captain Marvel is present and escapes the scene, reporting it back to Earth.

Personality

Blind Rage:
Born of a dead woman, slave to her murderer, Gabriel is a furnace of deep-seated anger suited to his codename. While raised in ignorance of much of his birthright, the Shi'ar never accounted for the idiosyncrasies of mutant genetic memory or telepathic bonding, and Gabriel has carried the pain of that moment with him throughout his life, once hidden, now on full display. In action, he is impulsive, hasty, over-eager. Undirected, he strikes out against any opportune target of his ire, although this can make him open to manipulation.

God Complex:
True to the Summers family tree, Gabriel is one of the most powerful mutants alive, with nearly unlimited potential to his powers. Enslaved from birth and made into a soldier and a weapon, once his chains were broken, he sees no reason to bow or limit himself before anyone, to pretend that he is anything less than he is. His ambition is limitless: he will rule Empires, and more, and woe be it to any who dares stand against him.

Lost Child:
Despite all his power and anger, at his heart, Gabriel is a child who never had a childhood, someone who lost everything even before he entered the world. Carrying glimpses of his misfortune in his heart, or catching glimpses of his home planet even as he has been turned against it? A part of him cries out for what could have been, for the love he was denied, the family he lost.

Powers

Energy Manipulation:
Vulcan is an Omega-Level energy manipulator, possessing near unlimited ability to absorb and control all manner of different energy types. This includes not only the entire vast spectrum of traditional electromagnetic radiation, but also exotic forms, such as the psionic energy which underpins all X-Gene expression, not yet understood forms of cosmic energy, or even magical forces. Beyond the obvious energy attacks and flight, he can detect expressions of energy across vast distances (scaling to interstellar ranges for large enough emissions), form constructs, and use absorbed energies to sustain his own life forces or even repair damaged tissue. The control aspect of his power can allow him to divert powers used by others, suppress or siphon them away: he awakened to his present level of power after taking energy directly from the Phoenix Force.

Skills

Earth From Affar:
Gabriel has had some contact with Earth through the guidance of his handler, Davan Shakkari, who directed Shi'ar intelligence on Earth. Most of this is at arms length: he has observed Earth broadcasts, accessed public data like the internet, and taken part in intelligence briefings or covert observation, the latter of which was sometimes unknowingly targeted at his own family. However, all of this information is incomplete and from an outsider perspective, lacking the proper cultural context of a human upbringing.

Imperial Guard Training:
Vulcan achieved elite Superguardian status in the Shi'ar Imperial Guard. This training covers a vast array of skills useful to military operation in the context of inter-stellar and -galactic conflict, from close combat to tactical, operational, and strategic-level planning. He is familiar with Shi'ar technology and equivalent standards in other important areas of space, and has basic knowledge on the territory, inhabitant species, and politics of the Shi'ar Empire and its various subjugated worlds, as well as of major rival powers like the Kree.

Resources

Deathbird:
Vulcan is the strong right hand - and sometimes lover - of Cal'syee Neramani, 'Deathbird,' elder sibling to Lilandra and D'Ken.

The Rebel Guard:
Vulcan serves as Praetor of those elements of the Shi'ar Imperial Guard who have sworn themselves to Deathbird over Lilandra. This gives him a personal army of powerful alien soldiers taken from across the reaches of the Empire, a fleet of warships, and more.

Weaknesses

Overload:
Although Vulcan can absorb almost any kind of energy, his ability to hold and control it does have (extremely high) upper limits, which may force him to either release the accumulated power - making himself vulnerable - or potentially destroy himself. It is unclear if his limit is absolute, or if it may grow over time with mastery of his abilities.
