Khanitiel was one of the Powers. She has been aware since shortly after the moment of creation. She Sinned against Free Will by manifesting before the Princess of Thosalos. She took on the mantle of All Mother and interfered with their history. Now she has had her wings rent from her body and has a mortal body while retaining all the enemies and predators of the Heavenly Host.

Sraddha of Thosalos:
Some moments can change lives, even those that have gone on for billions of years. Meeting the Princess Sraddha was such a moment for Khanitiel. This child of Thosalos was special. Alone among her empathic race, she could perceive the presence of Khanitiel. Further, the young woman could speak to the angel. Sraddha had the powerful faith of a child in need and that belief wound around Khanitiel's spirit and not only bound her to the child but altered the angel's very being. For the first time, the Power acted with compassion.

Seeing and speaking with a being that no one else can see is difficult at best. When those people are bound by empathy, however, faith in the unseen is madness. Sraddha was to be destroyed for her vision. She did not even try to save herself.

It was then that Sraddha's faith burned brightest. So brilliantly did it light the way that Khanitiel was helpless against it. The angel revealed her glorious form to the people and was met with an intoxicating feeling of reverence. They were in awe of Khanitiel and so strong was their conviction that she came to see herself as worthy of it. She was not a cog in the Heavenly Host's machinery. She was their All Mother. It was at this time that the Lance of Agonies first took form, a weapon made of prayer strips and cosmic power. The faith of the people of Thosalos had even changed her weapon.

In time her Sin against Free Will was perceived and the punishment was severe. The angel's wings were torn from her body. She was forced to listen to the cries of her children and her beloved Princess but could do nothing. Without her, their society disintegrated. They turned upon each other. In a few short centuries, they were dead.

Timeline:
Creation (0 ACR) - The angel Khanitiel is created and assigned the obligations of a Power, destined to protect worlds from the threats of aberrations and befouled idealogues.

1.5 billion ACR - Khanitiel presides over a planet from which some of the first sentient mortal life arises. Her heavenly lance lays low many an external threat. While the delicate creatures of the planet do tap into the powers of magic, they fail to survive the inevitable aging of their star.

3.0 billion ACR - Khanitiel guards world after world, staunchly defending mortals from enemies ranging from nightmare monsters to shapeless voids to raw emotional corruption. Despite her work, however, the vastness of space thwarts the escape of her charges and in time, all perish.

5.5 billion ACR - The exposure to mortal life introduces growing levels of disturbance to the angel. She is every bit as powerful, but she grows more zealous. External mortal threats begin to appear around some of her planets. She begins to thwart them with miracles and terrible disasters. The tip of her lance remains sharp, but its color reddens and its tip drips with blood. Over the ages that follow, billions of sentients will fall before her increasingly vainglorious wrath.

8 billion ACR - Khanitiel begins to rely on ever greater levels of involvement, seeking to protect her wards more effectively. To this point, none were able to escape the confines of their star systems. Internal threats grew more deadly and technology granted the power of annihilation to many hands. Too many hands. She begins to send ever more dreams and nightmare portents trying to guide her charges, driving some to greatness and others to madness and suicide. This delays the hour but does not prevent self-destruction. This is her first brush with a Great Sin against Free Will. She narrowly avoids crossing this line.

12 billion ACR - Khanitiel continues her work. Rogue sentients grow a more grave threat, stirred up perhaps by her growing violation of Law. In this period she rarely knows peace. It culminates in a billion-year war with demonkind. They are eventually destroyed, but not before they snuff out all life in her sector of space.

500 BCE - Khanitiel is assigned to the world Thosalos. She encounters a Princess who can see her and for the first time, manifests in a physical form. The child's beliefs change the angel forever. They are the first to see her true form in dreams. She guides them in many things, her involvement a constant and steady hand upon the helm of their development. The angel prevents them from killing each other. She dictates the evolution of their sciences and instructs them in the wielding of magic through vivid dreams. Under her guidance, they escape the confines of their star. She rejoices that her children have finally succeeded. They will finally live, but in this action, she has committed a Great Sin against Free Will.

1822 CE Khanitiel's interference draws notice from the Heavenly Host. She is removed from the day-to-day life she had with her children. Her wings are torn from her. In two short centuries, her absence causes religious schisms and a power vacuum that leads to war. The tools she gave her children become terrifying instruments and her charges self-annihilate. For the first time, Khanitiel felt something. She began to doubt the wisdom of Law and entertained thoughts of rebellion. Somewhere in this time, all went dark.

2024 CE - Khanitiel wakes up on Earth with a body and a muddled memory. She knows her wings were removed and why. She knows her children died in her absence. She has no understanding of how she wound up in New York.

Personality

Ashamed:
Khanitiel spent too much time personally interacting with the residents of planet Thosalos and basked in their adoration. In her close relationship with Princess Sraddha, Khanitiel embraced the role of All Mother. Her superiors discovered this blasphemy, withdrew her power, and tore off her wings. In time this led to the destruction of their species and the devastation of the planet. The angel bears a deep shame for her failure to protect 'her children' during that dark time in her history (see +his KH/Sraddha of Thosalos). She will not bring it up willingly (see +his KH/Sraddha of Thosalos).

Compassionate:
An angel acts in ways she feels will ensure her charges thrive. Khanitiel cannot feel true compassion the way a mortal does, but she can recognize anguish in its many forms and is highly motivated to remediate it.

Honest:
Khanitiel is incapable of lying.

Protective:
Khanitiel has an intrinsic sense of duty to protect sentient life. She is both the shield and the lance in this role, preventing harm at the moment and generally attempting to remove the threat permanently. Her preferred enemies are malevolent entities from Hell.

Resolute:
Khanitiel is resistant to change. She is bold and unwavering in the face of danger. When she is set to a task, she does not stop. Consequently, she is utterly intractable in her beliefs and cannot make her own decisions about how to grow and adapt. Without the influence of mortals, she will exist in the state she is in until the end of time.

Serene:
Even in violence, Khanitiel has about her a sense of self-possession that is unshakable. No matter her true view of the moment, she shows no anger, fear, or pain. There is one exception (see +per KH/Ashamed).

Ugly:
Khanitiel has encountered and even embodied perfection. The destruction of her wings and being forced into a physical form have made her view herself as repulsive. The unease mortals express at her eerie beauty to her is interpreted as disgust at her ugliness. In the end, this belief is not so far from the truth.

Powers

Angel Powers:
This is the essence of divine power, from which Khanitiel draws her energy and gains her powers. While her body is effectively mortal (she has the physical capabilities one would expect of an athletic woman of her considerable stature), she has retained a few sparks of her previous might. There are two uses that this power currently has.

-Current Powers-
Visions/Portents: Each night Khanitiel may send a dream or vision to a person she has previously possessed (see +pow KH/embodiment).
Votive Candle: This pale candle allows Khanitiel to make a vow that binds her to a mortal. It also provides the illumination and warmth of a normal candle.

Embodiment:
Khanitiel's spirit can leave her body and enter the body of a mortal. While her spirit is away, her body is defenseless but she is aware if it is being harmed. This does not grant her control, though she can communicate with her host. Her presence enhances whatever capabilities that mortal has, making them a better version of themselves. The host must be willing, they may eject her at will and must consent for her to withdraw. If she is forcibly ejected, it will cause serious harm to her physical form, requiring immediate medical care. Khanitiel can only manage this for a few hours. If she is not allowed to withdraw in time, she will be forcibly removed, suffering serious harm. The degree of enhancement depends on the virtue of the host's current motivations (not their previous deeds).

-Enhancements (one at a time)-
-A normal human might gain physical ability exceeding human maximums at a low level. A grandmother might get the "hysterical strength" to lift a crashed car off her grandchild. Or a father sprint at 30-35 mph after the kidnappers who have his son.
-A skill or mental faculties might be boosted:
*A martial artist of moderate skill might become a match for a black belt.
*A driver might turn perfect corners at maximum speed.
*An engineer might McGuyver a short-term solution, though the enhancement doesn't last long enough to accomplish complex design work.
-A metahuman or mutant might see their powers get a useful but modest boost. A mid-level character based on strength might see their strength boosted 25 percent or more. A flyer might fly faster and be incredibly maneuverable. Another might instead gain finer control of their power than normal, or be able to accomplish a stunt or feat they normally cannot quite manage.
-Incredibly powers or attributes will experience gains so modest that they are unlikely to be noticed.

Perception:
Khanitiel can sense all beings and projections of beings in her vicinity. The range is 10 meters in all directions.

Psychic Backwash:
The mind of an angel is disturbing and alien. It is empty of emotion and filled with billions of years of memory. Passionless observation of the triumph and tragedy of trillions of lives rushes out to greet anyone who dares to touch Khanitiel's mind. Even for experienced telepaths, this can be unpleasant. Her mind is a work of songs, colors, and wheels that are somehow more literal than anything mortals encounter in reality. Psychic attacks can be successful, but how they harm her is unpredictable.

Tongues:
Khanitiel can understand and be understood by any sentient being. She no longer can speak the tongue of angels.

Unearthly Beauty Marred:
Khanitiel is objectively a perfect example of geometric beauty. Her physical form is as close to a universal human definition of feminine beauty as is possible to achieve. There is one notable flaw. Between her shoulders, she retains the wounds from her torn-off wings. Further, those dimly luminous, cursed, golden wounds are always noticeable and may not be concealed by spells, paints, armor, or clothing. Most react to her appearance in disgust or discomfort.

Skills

Combat:
To call what Khanitiel does in battle martial arts would offend most practitioners. She is very capable of resisting and directing violence. She fights like a professional warrior but her damaged state has weakened her. Whereas before she would be a world class fighter, now she is more akin to an expert.

Competence:
With experience spanning billions of years, Khanitiel is competent in countless forms of artistic expression, sciences, magical arts, and philosophies. However, her lack of a soul means all she does lacks feeling. Her work will seem weird or even disturbing to mortals.

Song:
One of the few exceptions to the alien nature of the angel is her song. Though she has no emotions of her own, the suffering, joy, and other emotions of her charges have all been perceived by Khanitiel. She can express these through song in perfect clarity, charged with sublime beauty. These songs are haunting on their own and resonate with the harmonies of the universe around them.

Resources

Poor:
Khanitiel has only the most meager of possessions (some clothing) and struggles to keep herself fed. She struggles to find shelter. She has no home. Angels are still unwelcome in the world and there are no friends or allies to speak of on Earth or in Heaven.

Weaknesses

Alien:
Even when wearing a human form, Khanitiel does not truly appear human. The way she moves, her beauty, and frequently her features mark her as anything but mortal.

Emotionless:
Something is disturbing about Khanitiel's presence. The way she moves, her lack of expression, and even the eerie flatness when she speaks reveal that she has no means to express or even experience emotions the way a mortal does. Only the beauty of her songs express emotions effectively (see +ski KH/song).

Honest:
Khanitiel cannot lie.

Wards:
As an angel, there exist rituals and spells that can effectively ward against Khanitiel's presence and the use of her powers. Further, black magic and demonic weapons have been designed to cause great harm to her kind.
