Kwannon is a Japanese master assassin who found herself partially merged with Betsy Braddock, the X-Man known as Psylocke. The memories have drawn her to seek out the woman and the people she befriends in Westchester, to better understand her changed powers and psyche.

Timeline

Timeline:
*1995: Kwannon is born on October 5. Her parents worked for a local crime lord and thus she was born directly into that type of life. They worked as an enforcer and a thief.
* 1998: Her mother was killed in a car accident, leaving Kwannon's father to raise her. Her mother had wanted to keep her out of their criminal lives. Her father had no such qualms.
* 1999: Kwannon begins training in martial arts at the age of three, including ninjutsu. She is homeschooled her entire childhood, receiving the required education but she was also being taught how to fight, pick locks, all the necessary skills to be a good enforcer and thief herself.
* 2006: At the age of 11, Kwannon began to work officially as a thief for Nyoirin.
* 2010: Her father died. Alone now, Kwannon took her father's position as enforcer. Two years later she advanced to assassination.
* 2013: Advanced to become Nyoirin's his top assassin. She was unaware that he had fallen in love with her.
* 2014: At the age of 19, she met Matsu'o Tsurayaba of the Hand. A romance bloomed in time. The pair realized they might be on opposite sides of a conflict in the future and made a pact to face one another in combat if it did.
* Early 2019: The Hand and Nyoirin came into conflict. She faced Matsu'o, as they had agreed. During the battle, she fell off a cliff. She lived but her brain was injured, leaving her in a coma. Matsu'o took her back to a medical lab run by the Hand, where she was cared for.
* Late 2019: Matsu'o brought in Betsy Braddock, a powerful telepath, as a captive to attempt healing Kwannon. He brought in Spiral, asking for her to use Betsy's mind and powers to restart Kwannon's mind. It worked but not quite as intended. Kwannon did wake, but she was not the same. She had stronger powers than she had prior in life. She also had memories of Betsy Braddock's life.
* 2020: Kwannon continued to serve Nyoirin, working back to her spot as his top assassin after recovering from her physical injuries. Yet, during these years, she was haunted by these strange memories and pieces of Betsy Braddock.
* 2023: Kwannon took time off from her position, wanting to learn more about this other person in her head. She had enough info to know where to go and headed for Westchester.

Personality

Loyal:
A core to Kwannon is her loyalty once she has chosen to be associated with someone. She may or may not be emotionally invested in that person. Such as when she left the Hand and moved into the service of a crime lord, she was loyal to that new boss. Even when it put her in conflict with those she knew from her previous group.

Pragmatic:
Kwannon is a pragmatist. She does not look at the world as positive (optimist) or negative (pessimist). She is more concerned with matters of fact than with what could or should be. Her world is results and consequences. Do something, face the results of what actually happens. It may make her seem less emotional to those who don't understand this viewpoint, which isn't a valid thing. She isn't a someone who has no emotions, no psychopathy is at work there.

Ruthless:
Kwannon will do whatever she must to achieve her goals. Considering she Is an assassin trained from infancy, that is quite a lot. She has no problem with killing. No problem with stealing. No problem with most criminal acts as they were part of her life with the Hand and serving Crime Lords. She isn't going to go out just killing people in their homes unless there is a specific goal in mind. She just doesn't have a problem with it when the means achieve the ends. If someone needs to die, she's fine doing it.

Unflinching:
Kwannon goes to bed at night and sleeps like a baby. She does not feel guilt for acts that most normal people would feel are atrocious. When she needs to deal with a situation, even to the extreme, she will. No hesitation. No doubts. She may see someone else take things to an extreme but, if there is a valid reason for it in her mind, then she would be fine with it. Now, if she does not think there is a valid reason? Then she will not hesitate to step in to stop the action if she feels that is an appropriate response.

Empathy:
Kwannon is an empath, but only able to receive the emotions of people around her. This is not the same as telepathy, where she can pick up thoughts. It is literally being able to sense what other people are feeling, not why they feel that way or what might be causing that emotion. This is anywhere within a range of about thirty feet. She does not have an ability to manipulate other's emotions, only read them.

Fast Learning:
Through the ability of telepathy, Kwannon can quickly learn a skill by taking the information from the mind of another person. Depending on the level of knowledge will affect the length of time it takes. This mainly can be used for something simple like languages, which takes just a few moments. Something like the ability to fly the space shuttle would take more time unless she wanted to hurt the person she was copying the information from. (For game purposes, this is limited to small things such as being able to speak French for a scene or how to cook eggs benedict, not for just randomly having extreme skills. Advanced skills would require staff approval.)

Psychic Blade:
The focused totality of her telepathic abilities is the psychic blade. This can take the form of a glowing blade about the size of a dagger around her hand. Kwannon tends to create them into a psi-katana, something that is a weapon she prefers to use when in combat. This blade can do many things, depending on what she wishes to achieve. It can stun someone by firing off their synapses in their mind, it can knock them out entirely, or it can kill a person if she chooses. The psychic blade can also force through the shields of other telepaths, allowing Kwannon access to their memories and thoughts. She can also manifest this around a normal katana, allowing that katana to be both a physical weapon as well as a psionic attack. She can use psibolts that can hit at range but tends not to do that very much, as she instinctively is a person who uses physical attacks more often.

Senses:
Although it is not truly a power, Kwannon has learned to focus her senses to an extreme level for a human being. She has been able to hear an espionage expert walking through grass, because the grass itself moved even though the person was moving silently. She can fight in complete darkness, using her other senses to pinpoint others locations through sound and smell. This is not superhuman such as those of others, it is just to a peak level for a human being.

Telekinesis:
Telekinesis is the ability to move objects with the use of her mind. Kwannon often uses it to provide herself with physical shields for safety from attacks. This can be extended out beyond herself and provided to others, but they must be within her line-of-sight to be affected. A common use is to focus her telepathy on her weapons and use those weapons to cut through items she might not normally be able to, such as steel, without damaging her weapons. She can lift up to the weight of a small one-story building. Offensively, she can slam a bolt of power into another or she can make them float in the air making it difficult for them to attack/fight. She can use telekinesis to fly herself and can carry others with her. The key is she is not very subtle in her use. It is more direct. She will not be moving a marble through a box maze, but she could rip the maze apart and move the marble to the opposite side.

Telepathy:
Kwannon is a skilled telepath. This is the ability to read and manipulate the minds of others. She can use this at a great distance, in a wide range of ways.
* Communication: She can speak to others mentally and hear their thoughts as well. She can use this to bring several minds together in a psilink, allowing them to share speech instantaneously. They can also share images or more detailed info but it will take a few seconds as it is more complex information.
* Illusions: She can mentally make others see what she wants, including all five senses.
* Sensing Others: She can use her powers to sense when minds are in the area around her, allowing her to pinpoint locations.
* Manipulation: If it is something triggered in the mind, it can be altered by Kwannon. She can stop someone from being able to move or activate their mutant powers. She can modify their memories or erase them.
* Reading Thoughts: She can easily pick up surface thoughts with little to no effort. For deeper thoughts, she would need to focus more of her abilities, but she can do this, even if she might need to force her way through their mental defenses. She often uses scanning the surface thoughts of opponents during a fight to know their next moving, giving her an advantage in combat.
* Mental Hiding: She can hide her psionic abilities from others that might detect them, particularly other psionics. This has proven to be extremely effective even against omega level telepaths.
* Mental Shielding: She maintains mental shields to keep others out of her mind, rarely dropping them. They are maintained in her sleep. These are necessary for her own sanity (see Weakness Powers).
* Astral Plane: Kwannon can access the Astral Plane and manipulate it like other telepaths. She is a formidable opponent there, using her real life skills when needed during combat.
* OOC Note: This is a consent-based game. As such, OOC Consent is important for her more intrusive abilities such as manipulation of memories, blocking motor skills, full sensory illusions, and deep diving memories. If there is discomfort with any others, these can be discussed, and something worked out.)

Skills

Assassination:
Kwannon is an assassin thus she has excellent knowledge of ways to kill people. She is an expert on human anatomy, where critical organs are, nerves for strikes and attacks, arteries/veins that are best to utilize, and so forth. She can use poisons when needed, though she isn't a big fan of those but her knowledge of Eastern Medicine allows her a good choice of options. Any way that one can kill another person, she knows it.

Escape Artist:
Kwannon is able to escape from any number of situations. She can get out of handcuffs without blinking an eye. She can escape ropes or bindings. When she has been captured, she has been able to find a way to escape. Sometimes easily, sometimes needing a bit more planning ahead of time which isn't difficult for an experienced assassin.

Fitness:
Kwannon is experienced in keeping herself fit, making sure her agility and physicality are excellent. She knows acrobatics as part of this, it being something she has added to her fighting style that allows her to surprise others at times in fighting. She can achieve acrobatic feats that might seem impossible for a normal human.

Languages:
Kwannon speaks several languages. She is fluent in Japanese, as her native language. She knows is fluent in English, Mandarin, Cantonese, and Korean. She has some knowledge of Russian and can speak it conversationally. She has some knowledge of Spanish and Portuguese but she cannot speak them outside the very basics when needed. It should be noted that with her telepathy, she can fast learn a language if needed though (see Power Fast Learning).

Martial Arts:
Kwannon is trained in multiple forms of martial arts. Though she focuses on those that are Eastern origins, such as Karate, Jiu Jitsu, Judo, etc. In addition, she is highly skilled in ninjutsu, the art of hitting and escaping quickly which is used for her assassination. However, she enjoys the other fighting styles as well. If she were to be tested or have been taught in a normal school, she would have multiple black belts in varying styles. She has some limited knowledge of Western styles which she may add from time to time to throw off an opponent, but her physical conditioning has her automatically shifting in Eastern styles more often than not. She has been trained in blind fighting, even without the use of her powers.

Medicine:
Kwannon has limited training in how to treat wounds and illnesses. She would be equal to a field medic in the military, able to deal with wounds and help keep someone alive until they can get to a doctor. She has excellent knowledge of human anatomy (see Skill Assassination). She has also been trained in traditional Eastern medicine. This includes things such as acupuncture, use of various remedies to deal with illnesses, etc.

Security:
Kwannon is an expert on security systems. This includes low level locks that can be picked with a simple hairpin and complex modern systems that involve all the most high tech gadgets. With the right devices, she can get into and out of a penthouse apartment/condo or high security base undetected.

Stealth:
Kwannon is trained in ninjutsu thus she has been taught how to use stealth at an extremely high level. This does not just mean moving through shadows, although that is a part of it. It is the ability to blend into surroundings, even those filled with crowds of people. She knows how to move silently when necessary. She can navigate in complete darkness using her other senses (see Powers Senses) and/or her powers.

Swordsmanship:
Kwannon is an expert with her chosen weapons being katanas. She has focused a lot of her training on these traditional swords. Though she has not limited herself to traditional training in that she can dual wield katanas, one in each hand. Her skills are quite high and there are few that can match her with this weapon. She can translate this to the use of other swords as well but with lesser proficiency, though still quite advanced.

Contacts:
Kwannon has many contacts from her life as an assassin. She serves as the head assassin for Japanese crime lord, Nyoirin. She has all the contacts that his group would, including those with weapons or information from the streets. She can have other members of his assassins or security personnel if needed for a task. She also was loved by Matsu'o, a high level member of the Hand. He was the one who saved her life. She can rely on him for practically anything she might need and through him, will have some of the Hand resources on a limited basis. Nyoirin and Matsu'o have an agreement to not be in conflict again after what happened to Kwannon, thus are uneasy allies.

Espionage Gear:
Due to needing to access places that are typically secured, Kwannon has a wide variety of items available to her to allow her to get through security to access her target. Simple lockpicks, advanced computerized drives, etc. She also has access to explosives, costumes that involve bullet resistant materials, and so forth.

Wealth:
Kwannon has spent many years being the main enforcer and protector for a prominent crime lord in Japan. She is compensated well for her work and has saved quite a lot, as she hasn't had to pay for housing or even food since she works most of her days. She probably has close to a quarter million in a variety of accounts, allowing for her to live comfortably but not elaborately.

Weapons:
Kwannon collects weapons, particularly those associated with martial arts though not exclusively. Some of these are historical artifacts while others are working weapons. Katanas, throwing stars, swords of varying styles, sai, bo staffs, etc. She does not personally own firearms though she does have access to them when needed for her work through her contacts.

Weaknesses

Jealousy:
If she were asked, Kwannon would never admit this. Yet the truth is she's jealous of Betsy Braddock. She has pieces of Betsy's memories in her psyche, she is truly seeing all she missed in her own upbringing. Not just seeing, she can feel the emotions, the ones that Betsy could feel from those people who had loved her such as her parents and siblings. It is something she never had and she is jealous of what she missed out on.

Memories:
Kwannon has gestalt memories. Her entire life is there, of course. Yet now there are bits and pieces of another life as well. Things blend and meld and move around. She has no lost of self, she knows who she is and what memories are hers. But she will have memories triggered by events at times that are the memories of another woman. It can be disconcerting. It can also be confusing to telepaths who are trying to help her through the use of their powers.

Powers:
Kwannon was always an empath and low level telepath. After the mind of Betsy Braddock and her powers touched Kwannon's, her powers increased to mirror those of the other woman. With the increased power came increased difficultiess.

She has to keep her mind shielded or she is picking up every thought from everyone in range of her at all times. It would be overwhelming. There is always white noise in the back of her mind from these thoughts touching on her shields. Keeping up these shields, things can still get through. Especially strong emotions of those close to her physically. Even if she is not actively scanning.

As an empath, there isn't a lot of shielding that can be done. She simply will pick up emotions. Including when someone dies. Or she kills someone. She has learned to compartmentalize it, but this is part of why she can come across as cold at times, as she has to push it down and not allow it to affect her.

Ruthless:
To others, Kwannon may come across as cold and unfeeling due to that ruthless edge to her. She will kill without blinking an eye. She doesn't show her emotions a lot as she will pick up emotions from those around her all the time and she has to compartmentalize them to cope. This can be off putting for other people.

Self-Doubt:
In most ways, Kwannon is an extremely confident woman. Yet deep inside, ever since she has had that bit of Betsy Braddock merged with her, there is that hint of self-doubt. Not a doubt in her abilities but more in her perception of how others perceive her. She is more aware of it than she was previously. And when someone new meets her and responds potentially positively, are those positive reactions due to Kwannon? Or the part of her that reflects Betsy?
