Speed Force

Though some suspect the Speed Force is an energetic field or potentially part of the Fundamental Realms, it is in fact a power source derived from one of the First Gods-- an ideologue, a creature born to fulfill and be fulfilled by a specific concept. In this case, the Speed Force is the embodiment of the concept of speed itself.

Much akin to the Phoenix Force, the Speed Force reaches out to avatars and sympathetic minds and empowers them to be emissaries. These speedsters are empowered with energies that defy physics, bordering on magical and stemming from the Speed Force itself and its connection with the Source.

With a conscious effort, speedsters can use the Speed Force to greatly accelerate themselves relative to the rest of the world. Channeling this energy requires a conscious effort, and it cannot be sustained indefinitely. The faster a speedster goes, the more focus and effort is exerted. They experience something akin to a temporal shift, with the world moving around them at a glacial pace.

Those who can use the Speed Force are protected from issues like oxygen deprivation or friction. If they exert a force on an object, their subjective resistance is a fraction of what the object experiences. Their heightened metabolism significantly reduces buildup of acid in the muscles and provides them with a great deal of extra metabolic energy. Speedsters must consume two to three times as much food as a normal person, potentially even more if they are making full use of their powers.
