The story
The ravens of London are dying one by one. Some aren't confirmed dead, but simply gone into the night. Tabloids blare baseless speculation, but it's soon swallowed until the next bird disappears or is found stone dead.
Their number keeps dropping, little by little, and that bodes very poorly for England.
By royal decree must the ravens stand. The country's security hinges on sacred rites and rituals maintained since Merlin's time.
Should the black-winged Parliament in the shadows of the Crown fall, the nation falls with it.
The history
In medieval times, the tradition of installing ravens at the Tower began. Naturally, they flocked, a parliament in the shadow of Parliament. The jest wasn't lost on the magical practitioners of the land. But slowly, the ravens came to be associated with harbingers of death and protection both.
At some point during Henry VII's reign, the first warding spells were laid on the city of London. A one-square-mile area today, the City and its palaces were guarded by bound ravens. **Spoilers, darling!** They served the court astrologer, and later, the Ravenmaster, who would assure this line of defense protected the Crown and the people.
