Wakanda Civil War

In 1500 BCE, a tribal chief named C'Muro seized the throne of Wakanda from King T'pwen of the Bako line in a bloody coup, aided by a cabal of priests worshipping the god Seth. The Wakandan Royal Family was exiled and forced to flee into the jungle. C'muro consolidated his power and began launching expeditionary forces into the neighboring nations using vibranium weapons. Styled as Overlord, C'muro rapidly conquered a great deal of territory. The Wakandan armies, wearing ceramic armor, attacked the ancient Bunyoro Empire, annexing the far-flung tribes and destroying their military. One of the great kingdoms of Africa was simply annihilated and removed from history. No part of Africa was safe from the armies that seemed able to traverse mountains on a whim, and a corruption of their name became associated with legends of flying sky gods of Africa: The Chwezi.

C'muro's armies were depleting their reserves of vibranium weapons and equipment. Still relying on ancient mining techniques, the supply of the precious material was insufficient to replenish their losses. Ambitious and considering the possibility of striking north after the vast Persian empire and the wealth of the Nile floodplains, C'muro sent his armies to capture another isolated nation: the Steel City of the Atillans.

No one in millennia had tested the full might of the Atillans, and the response was a war the likes of which had not been seen since Atlantis. The conscripted warriors fighting for Wakanda were routed immediately and the metahumans proved to be more than a match for even the elite Wakandan warriors.

Thousands of Wakandans died in the retreat from battle. The Atillans harried their forces all the way back to Wakanda itself. C'muro retreated to the palace, defeat chilling his blood. Only the approach of Mululi, daughter of deposed King T'pwen, stayed the hands of the Atillans. They agreed to give Mululi a chance to dethrone C'muro. But their warriors stood poised to invade should she fail.

As C'muro marshalled his forces to prepare for the Atillan onslaught, Mululi and her loyalist forces struck them in orchestrated ambushes. Alongside Mululi's forces were secret allies: the warrior-women of Bana-Mighdall, recruited to the cause after their fortress-home was ransacked by C'muro's legions.

Leading her forces into the royal palace, Mululi squared off against C'muro in single combat. Bast threw her might to Mululi, and Seth infused C'muro as his avatar. A battle for the heart of Wakanda itself raged in the throne room, blood staining the throne of the Black Panther. Mululi was triumphant, and cast C'muro down. Seeing C'muro's defeat, Mululi's Atillan allies kept their word and retreated to their ship while the insurrectionists were scattered and leaderless. A die-hard ally of the usurper took their shot at the retreating Atillan ship and discharged an energy battery at them. The Omrut Beacon was utterly destroyed and wreckage scattered the globe, from the Wakandan crater to the icebergs in the North Atlantic.

With C'muro dead, the royal family returned from their exile and the Wakanda Civil War closed. A bond of peace was established with their Amazon allies, though the wounds dealt to the Atillans would take many centuries to heal and forget. Mululi set about the arduous task of rebuilding her nation, and founded Wakanda's Fifth Dynasty.
