The press had a field day when Adrienne Prescott of the wealthy Prescott clan decided to self-destruct after high school. Every dangerous thing that a person with too much money and not enough sense can get into, well... he dove in head first. Then, just as suddenly as it had all started, he disappeared off the face of the Earth.

Now he's a shadowed wraith, self-tasked to use his magic to ruin the Prescott name in another way: reveal to the world exactly how dear old dad has furthered the family's fortune.

Timeline

Timeline:
1600s: An unnamed Prescott ancesor abuses his Homo Magi powers to amass a fortune. Soon enough the family forgets their magic heritage and begin to amass further wealth through unsavory means.

2002: Lucien Prescott and his wife welcome their first (and only) child into the world: a boy, Adrienne Alexandre Prescott.

2007: Xander is accepted into Brentwood Academy in Bristol Township, and begins a reign of terror as a bully. He makes an enemy of a student on scholarship, Evan Baker.

2009: The Prescott's long tradition of white collar crime is broken when Lucien begins to covertly provide resources to several local Gotham gangs.

2013: A year-long adventure of murder, mayhem, and a potential ghost haunting leads Xander and Evans to form a necessary partnership to survive. Eventually they begin to be friends.

2015: Now thick as thieves, Xander's friendship with Evan has softened some of his worst behaviors. Lucien is not pleased by this.

2019: High school graduation approaches. Evan is seriously injured in a drive-by shooting in Gotham, ending up in a coma. It becomes clear that it is Lucien's doing, and Xander loses his mind.

2020: By the end of the year, he has been disowned by his father.

2021: His estranged aunt Lucretia saves his life and reveals why she, too, was disowned: not because she was crazy, but because she was a witch. Xander begins to learn magic.

2024: Xander has time to grow and move on, but he's never forgotten Evan, or forgiven his father. He resolves to finally do something about it with his new powers... but where to start?

Personality

Angsty:
Emotional. Dramatic. Call it what you will, but Xander has always been prone to letting the irrational part of his brain take over. He was a hellion of a teenager during puberty, that's for sure, and even now that his hormones have mellowed out some, he is still prone to fits of despondency. A lot of this is tied into regret for his past choices, as well as the losses he has suffered in his personal life. No one would have ever called him chipper, even when he was a dour little boy, but as an adult he's positively morose.

Broken:
At his core, Xander is not well. His mental health has suffered greatly in recent years, but it runs much deeper than that: a foundation of bigotry and wickedness that he isn't certain he can ever escape from. The cruel influence of his father feels, at times, too great to ever overcome, no matter how hard he fights it.

Changeable:
From an annoying, bigoted boy to a compassionate, thoughtful man. A normal, often scared human to a courageous Homo Magi. Rich to poor. On track for a successful future to nearly dead in a ditch somewhere. Everything about Xander is mutable, from his emotions to his beliefs to even himself, through his magic. Mercurial might be one way to phrase, always willing to reconsider things another.

Driven:
Though Xander has languished in obscurity for the past couple of years as he recovered and began to live again under the care of his aunt, he is now committed to the course of action laid before him: reveal his father's misdeeds to the world by taking apart his criminal empire, one gangbanger at a time. Stubborness, grief, and an unwavering loyalty to a comatose friend and the legacy he left behind propel him forward at all times.

Powers

Elementalism:
Thanks to Aunt Lucretia, whose magical affinity rests within the natural world, Xander is capable of summoning the elements to some small degree. He can spark a flame to light something on fire, bring forth enough water to then put that thing out, pelt folks with rocks up to the size of marbles, and summon a strong enough gust of wind to knock someone on their ass easily enough. Anything more is a big stretch and will exhaust him within a moment or two, as he is not particularly attuned to this type of magic.

Homo Magi:
Magic. Sorcery. Spellwork. Whatever you call it, by his very nature as a Homo Magi, Xander possesses the ability to call forth raw mystical energy to power spells, imbue items, and craft potions. However, given he is only at the beginning of his occult journey, he still has a great deal to learn and a great deal to grow. The limiting aspect often lies in his internal magical "battery" which, after nearly two decades of being cut off from him, has atrophied. As he pratices, like training a muscle, it will begin to recover, but for now he is still quite weak.

For example:
* A ritual to bring back the dead as a zombie would be beyond him, but he could perhaps summon a spirit for a brief period of time
* Banishing a dangerous entity would be too great an ask, but he could perhaps (with enough forewarning) erect a ward to keep them out
* Turning a regular sword into an enchanted blade that could kill even the most powerful demons is right out, but it could damage some supernatural creatures otherwise impervious to regular weaponry

tHe has a particularly keen sense of magic around him, still deeply attuned to the very different way those of mystical origins feel in comparison to the boring drugery of the normal world. Due to this, he can fairly easily differentiate between types of magic, be they good or evil, orderly or chaotic, etc.

Transfiguration:
What good is changing a coin into a card? Well, maybe that coin is important to someone, and you don't want them to find it on you. How about a scarf into a bouquet of flowers? Maybe you find someone desperately in need of some cheering up? The point being, Xander is a natural at transfigurational magic, which completely modifies an item's being at the atomic level to simply be... something else. He's had to mostly learn this on his own, as his aunt is rather terrible at it, but so far he's made up for the lack of guidance with his own natural competency. As of yet he hasn't managed to change living creatures (with one caveat, see below) and he can't effect anything that's more than, say, ten or so pounds in weight or about a cubic foot in dimension, but Xander feels that he is just on the cusp of being able to do more.

The only living person that Xander can change... is himself. He can alter his features to appear as someone else, so long as they aren't all that much larger (or smaller) than he is. Hair, skin, eye color, build and facial features, even his voice, all are within the scope of his ability to adjust on the fly. He has a rotating catalogue of about a half dozen different "people" that he regularly masquerades as, though if he attempts to look like a real person on the fly, it often comes out just a little bit wrong. To do so properly, he has to spend some time in ritual meditation, aided by a photograph of his intended target and perhaps some of their personal effects or other objects of import to them.

Skills

Academics:
He went to a fancy private school, after all, and he even managed to get good grades (most of the time). Including his summers of private tutors, Xander has a very solid base of academic knowledge that stretches well into university-level, despite him not (yet?) attending.

Fighting:
It's nothing that could be properly classified as martial arts, but as a bully he was known to get into fights, and then when he was older, his friendship with Evan led him into far too many dangerous situations. He's useful, if scrappy, in a fist fight, and he became surprisingly adept at swinging blunt objects around in sixth grade. Yes, he definitely played polo and cricket as a teenager. Rich people stuff and all that.

Influence:
You ever read that book, How to Win Friends & Influence People? That's basically been Xander's life. He's good at being charismatic when he feels like it, mischevious and manipulative when it suits him, and downright intimidating when it becomes absolutely necessary.

Languages:
He's naturally bilingual in English and French, having grown up with both languages spoken at home. In school he learned Spanish, which he's not completely fluent at but at least conversational. And then there's the more apocryphal stuff: Latin for spellworking, of course!

Music:
Is it any surprise that a rich kid had extracurricular activities? For Xander, it was piano (boring) and violin (kind of fun). He can sight-read music, and while he might not be a maestro of any sort, he is a capable player of both instruments.

Occultism:
Mythology. Spell theory. Rituals. Demons, spirits, and supernatural creatures. He's only just now dabbling in the world of the occult, but with his aunt's guidance, Xander has begun to delve into all things mystical and unknown. And if he ever encounters something he doesn't understand, he knows how to track down legitimate magical sources to find information.

Streetwise:
You don't do the kinds of things Xander did after graduation without picking up some survival skills. Well, if you don't, you die. Which Xander nearly did. But he's at least been introduced to the seedy underbelly of the world, so he's not as easily taken advantage of, or caught unawares, as he once might have been.

Resources

Aunt Lucretia:
At this point in his life, Xander doesn't have much. But he does have his aunt Lucretia, who will always have his back, no matter what. They've bonded, deeply and seriously, since coming to know one another, and while she might not have much left to teach Xander when it comes to the mystic arts, she is still a profound source of support and wisdom for him.

Emergency Funds:
Even in the depths of his grief, Xander was still a smart kid. He has a lot more money hidden away than he ever burned through during the year or so where he was self-destructing; he doesn't like to touch it unless he absolutely has to, but he's by no means broke. It's certainly not enough to sustain the lifestyle he was once accustomed to, though.

Weaknesses

Dear Old Dad:
...is an asshole. He's not out to get Xander, not yet, but that doesn't necessarily mean that his various contacts in the gangs of Gotham won't be soon enough. And they all have resources Xander doesn't: weapons, power, money, and a willingness to abuse all three to hurt people.

Filled With Regret:
Xander's done some messed up stuff in the past. There's no getting around the fact that he was cruel as a child, and even though he's changed for the better, he will never stop feeling guilty over what he or his father has done. It follows him at all times.

Love Is a Weakness:
Maybe the way Xander feels (felt?) about Evan was more than just friendship. It's not exactly something he's examined closely, given that nothing can ever come of it. Either way, though, his comatose friend is a quick and dirty way to completely ruin Xander.

Tank's On Empty:
Given his mystical power languished for most of his life, Xander's ability to call forth magical energy is severely stunted. This can and hopefully will change over time, but for now magic has a higher chance of exhausting him, the more he tries to use it.
