Atrice 'Ducky' Duckstein is a bit of a Ghost Wrangler that works for the BPRD when she's not counseling others on their grief while ignoring her own. She's got a lot of baggage, but she tries not to let that effect her work life...which is far more exciting than her personal life by any means!

Timeline

Timeline:
1995: February - Born to unknown parents as she was left at the local hospital in Chicago.
1995: March - Unknown to anyone there is an entity that has attached itself to her.
1995: Spends most of the year in the NICU given her condition.
1996: Entered into the foster care system. She was not fostered a lot. Spending time in orphanages.
2005: Was taken in and fostered by a Miss Odile Cranworth of Chicago, owner of Cranworth Mortuary.
2006: Started collecting Ghost Stories as a way to have a constant in her life.
2007: Miss Cranworth continues to foster different children, but is never able to find a home for Atrice.
2008: Starts helping Miss Cranworth around the mortuary, doing small things like talking to the children of grieving families.
2010: Miss Cranworth married Harold Duckstein and moved herself and Atrice to New York City. Helping to start the Duckstein Mortuary chain.
2011: Did not settle into local schools well. Was labelled as too shy. Given a therapist.
2012: Had to go back to the foster system in Chicago after there was a bunch of files that went missing at the original foster care office.
2012: Winter - Under a lot of stress, she starts to be unable to pick up some objects without being overwhelmed by memories. She talks to someone about it and they refer her to a therapist. Who calls a friend.
2013: Never officially adopted by the Duckstein family, but she asks Harold if she can take his last name since he's the only father she has known and he agrees.
2014: Meets Professor Broom in a stroke of misfortune and is recruited into the BPRD as a budding intern. One that has a lot of knowledge on ghosts for one so young.
2015: Spring - Entered college for Mortuary Sciences. Got the nickname of 'Ducky' given her last name from her peers in College. It has stuck around.
2015: Autumn - Starts to grow very weak from her blood disorder, admitted to the hospital for numerous blood transfusions and ICU care.
2016: January - Returns to work at BPRD. Also accepts a job as a grief councilor with a local community center.
2019: Summer - Gets engaged to her longterm boyfriend. Sadly he is killed in a freak accident. The woman is shocked to learn that he left his life insurance in her name and his mother is unhappy about it.
2020: Puts part of the money towards college and starts towards her Masters in Mortuary Science.
2022: Goes to the UK to work with a few historians to start collecting more knowledge of ghosts. Has an absolutely great time...but ends up being told by a fortune teller that she is cursed and death follows her.
2023: Spends most of her time giving counseling at the Duckstein's funeral home when not working with SHIELD and the BPRD.

Unusual Heritage:
Atrice is the daughter of one Csilla Bathory (mother, Master of Blood Magic and other dark things) and Azrael (father, Archangel). She does not know this given Csilla basically seduced Azrael and then once things were done she never looked back. When Atrice was born she left her warded so that when she needed her she would be able to be found. Csilla is a master of blood magic and uses sacrifices of humans rather often. That's what she has planned for her child. Azrael does not know of his daughters existence, but the ward in Atrice's bone is wearing thin and that is going to put a wrench in Csilla's plans. Plus alert Azrael of his daughter. Which is sure to be a happy family reunion. Maybe? Probably not.

Personality

Cautious:
Atrice tends to be a bad luck magnent, so she tends to be very cautious when new situations or opportunities arise. It is just due to a very bad history of things!

Hidden Romantic:
Atrice reads romance novels and dreams of having a huge wedding with friends, but the chances of that happening are mostly slim (in her mind!). She doesn't let everyone know that she is a romantic, but the truth will come out someday.

Loner:
Atrice has always been alone. She doesn't know who her blood parents are and she was never adopted by her foster parents. She feels like the proverbial outsider in most situations. This causes her to keep to the fringes of work and social situations.

Soft Hearted:
Atrice has had her share of losses and she feels like she is a walking curse, but if there are circumstances where she can help she does so.

Death Magic:
Atrice's bloodline is unknown to her, but she is capable of pretty strong magics when it comes to things that are dead, but she needs the practice that goes with this. Her powers do extend to animals, but she has never used this. Her studies will come with time and lots of weird components!

OOC: This is a plot point for growing with her not something she can do unless under a lot of duress.

Senses:
Since Atrice's accident she has noticed strange tingling in her fingers. Only recently has she discovered this is her body reacting to the presence of an angelic or abyssal entity. The sensation is quite vague and she would not likely be able to point at someone in a crowd as the source of this sixth sense.

Superhuman Strength:
Atrice's angelic heritage allows her to call upon her creators own ability to boost her strength. While Azrael's is a constant thing, Atrice has to call on it given she's just starting out using it. When she does call upon it though she can lift cars, put things through walls, all that fun stuff! She's not as strong as the main line heroes though, so she won't be hurling planets at anyone. Max Lift Strength 2 Tons.

Wings:
A rarity among Nephilim, Atrice has angelic wings. They are not apparent when 'folded', and manifest on demand without damaging her clothing or environment. She is unaware of these limbs, and they are perceptible only to creatures sensitive to illusions and angelic energies. The only difference between her wings and the usual wings are that hers are an ashen black in color. Much like her fathers.

Enochian:
Atrice is perfectly conversant in Common Enochian, the vulgate language of the Heavenly Host. Atrice can also read and write it.

Ghost Wrangler:
Yes, it's absolutely a thing. Atrice is who BPRD calls when they need a ghost caught without a lot of onlookers. She is of course happy to do this.

Grief Counseling:
Atrice has underwent the training and certification for being a Grief Counselor. She takes her job very seriously and it sometimes takes its own toll on her.

Bprd & Shield:
Atrice was recruited into the Bureua of Paranormal Research Division when she was 19 given her ghostly knowledges and her potential for the future. She worked as one of Professor Broom's assistants for quite a few years as well. She has the clearance she needs to do field work which her specialty general keeps her going to the more bizarre cases that don't always happen on this side of the Atlantic.

Hell:
Atrice has drawn the short straw and can access Hell, but it is only under a few different circumstances. She kills a rather potent demon to get there, if Azrael is somehow indisposed or she has the permission of a Hell Lord. Plus there is no way to ensure her safety unless it's by one of the higher ranking demons. While she is the daughter of the angel of death...she's not made of steel. The amount of damage that going to Hell would do, mentally and physically, is something that she'd have to recover from for awhile.

OOC: While this is a plot point, she won't be going to Hell regularly as it is a very complex part of things.

Occult Library:
Atrice has one of the best libraries on ghosts lore, research and miscellaneous on the subject in the Tri-State area. She's young and still collecting and making copies of old worn out books, so it's not like it's a world-wide thing. It is her pride and joy and feels like one of her biggest accomplishments so far.

Savings Account:
All of the money from Atrice's dead ex is in a savings account that is collecting interest. She used a small amount of it to pay off debt, otherwise she is using this money to try to find manuscripts and other occult items. The stuff gets expensive!

The Silver City:
While Atrice has inherited access to the Silver City, she is not really welcome there and would only be allowed in under very special circumstances. She's not going for a visit to see the Source or Azrael, that's for sure!

OOC: This is more of a rare plot point and not a 'pop in for a visit' resource.

Weaknesses

Abandonment Issues:
Atrice has issues with abandonment in SPADES. It's why she doesn't try to get close to too many people. She is working on it though after her therapist told her she should get out and try to connect with people.

Aplastic Anemia:
The ailment that is always around. Atrice has down times when her disease is a pain and she has to have transfusions and that is something she's tried to keep out of the work and public light.

Unknown Origins:
Atrice doesn't know who she is bloodline wise. She's searched and found nothing. It bothers her to no end. And the reality of who she is related to is something that could haunt her.
