It's from this smaller one that Carol has to recharge her ring typically once every 24 hours, so she's taken to charging it every morning and if she's used it a lot before she goes to bed that night as well. While the Ring will warn when its charge is getting low, if it runs out, Carol would be only human.

Star Sapphire Corps:
Carol is the former queen of the Zamarons and current Champion of the Star Sapphire Corps, an intergalactic organization powered by the violet light of love. The Corps is dedicated to spreading and protecting love throughout the universe, often clashing with other emotional spectrum corps.
