The Origins of Team Arrow

Oliver Queen returned to Starling City in 2008 after being presumed dead for four years, surviving a harrowing experience on Lian Yu. Driven by his father's dying wish, Oliver took up the mantle of the Green Arrow, targeting the corrupt elite responsible for destroying their city. In the beginning, Oliver worked alone, relying on stealth, skill, and his father's notebook to dismantle Starling City's criminal underworld.

The Formation of the Team

Over time, Oliver recognized the need for allies. John Diggle, a former soldier turned bodyguard, became his moral anchor and tactical partner. Felicity Smoak, a brilliant IT specialist at Queen Consolidated, brought tech expertise, humor, and a heart to the operation. Together, they formed the foundation of Team Arrow. As their mission grew, so did their team. Roy Harper (Arsenal), Thea Queen (Speedy), and Dinah Drake (Black Canary) each brought unique skills to the table. Team Arrow evolved from a solo crusade into a united front against crime and corruption.

Ongoing +Plots

  • The Sidri Beneath Phoenix Towers: Strange reports of disturbances beneath the Phoenix Towers suggest the presence of alien creatures known as the Sidri. Their hive-like behavior and ability to repair themselves make them a unique and potentially catastrophic threat. Investigating their emergence and preventing further harm is a top priority.

  • The Triad's Resurgence: While Team Arrow successfully dismantled parts of the Triad's operations in Hell's Kitchen, the criminal syndicate remains a significant force. They're regrouping and looking to reclaim lost territory, forcing Team Arrow into a prolonged war of attrition.

  • The Covenant's Kidnapping Plot: A shadowy organization, The Covenant, has been using kidnapped children of law enforcement officers to extort and manipulate authorities. Their methods are brutal, and the stakes are deeply personal for the team. The fight to uncover their leadership and dismantle their network is just beginning.

  • The Injustice League's Next Move: With The Calculator embedded in their ranks, the Injustice League remains a looming threat. Their global influence and complex schemes keep Team Arrow on high alert, forcing them to stay one step ahead to protect Starling City and their loved ones.

  • Moira's Return: Moira Queen has been abroad for some time, handling the company's international affairs as well as some of her own personal business. However, she returned unannounced and unexpected at the 2024 holiday party, only hours after Oliver asked Felicity to marry him. Oliver and Thea are both happy to see her, but Felicity suspects something is amiss. Or maybe she's just worried Moira will disrupt what little normalcy they've found.

  • Oliver's return to Starling City puts him at odds with Malcolm Merlyn (age 42). Indirectly, the public persona of Malcolm Merlyn remains cordial to Oliver, in order to keep an eye upon him. Directly, Malcolm's alter ego of the Dark Archer clashes with the Arrow, always in the shadows and seemingly one step ahead.
  • Thea (age 13) begins her drug experimentation due to ‘issues’.

Cooper seizes the moment to attempt erasing all student loans, but Felicity aborts the hack. Later that day, the FBI arrests Cooper, finding the laptop in his backpack. Despite Felicity's attempt to claim responsibility, Cooper takes the fall and, prior to sentencing, allegedly takes his own life. With Cooper gone, Felicity’s cyber-goth hacktivist days come to an end.

2009:

  • Felicity (age 20) graduates summa cum laude from MIT with a Master of Science in Computer Science and Cyber Security, specializing in virus creation. She moves to Starling City to work in IT at Queen Consolidated, a role she’s vastly overqualified for, in hopes of living a “normal” life.
  • Roy’s (age 7) parents are killed fighting a forest fire, they were searching for Roy who they thought had been in the woods but had gone fishing with Brave Bow instead. Roy blamed himself when he was left orphaned. Brave Bow takes the boy in since he feels he owes it to his father for saving Brave Bow’s life when they were younger. Roy was taken in by the Navajo people but remained an outsider. He attends school in the Navajo nation and becomes a lacrosse standout.

2010:

  • Felicity (age 21) comes across a photo of Oliver Queen and, talking to herself, comments on him being “cute,” unaware he overhears her. Later, while working in IT, Oliver shows up with a laptop riddled with bullet holes, asking her to salvage the data, claiming he spilled a latte on it. When she asks about the bullet holes, he tells her his coffee shop is in a “bad neighborhood.” She’s intrigued by the increasingly odd requests Oliver brings her way, secretly enjoying the puzzles he provides.

  • Dinah's (age 13) metagene triggers during an argument with her mother. Much glass breakage. Dinah begins training her 'voice' in addition to her normal regimen.
  • As Oliver evolves and develops his alter ego the Green Arrow, Malcolm (age 44) shifts to operate in a more background role, less of a hands on approach. This allows Malcolm to refine his public persona, presenting himself in a positive light, while ordering underworld happenings indirectly for his own personal agendas, effectively keeping the two aspects of his existence as separate as possible to avoid implications.
  • John Diggle (age 33) is shot by Deadshot and Oliver (age 25) takes him to the Arrowcave, revealing his identity.

2011:

  • Felicity (age 22) leaves work late to find a gunshot-wounded Oliver hiding in vigilante gear in her car’s backseat. She removes the bullet and fixes a defibrillator, officially saving Oliver’s life and joining Team Arrow as its third member.

  • Dinah (age 16) begins sneaking out at night to try and fight crime, with mixed results.
  • After Sebastian Shaw and Lex Luthor are established in their roles of Black King and White King respectively, the pair discover that Malcolm Merlyn (age 47) may have been involved in the 'accidental' death of Robert Queen nine years earlier. However, rather than report Merlyn to the authorities (since the connection was tedious at best) the two saw Merlyn as a person with similar interests and drives. As such, they approached Merlyn and offered the position of White Bishop, which Merlyn gladly accepted.

2014:

  • Roy (age 12) winds up in Starling and the gang he is running with comes under the attention of Team Arrow. Green Arrow bails him out of Juvee and makes him an offer.
  • Through connections both legitimate and illicit, Merlyn Global Group grows steadily to join the ranks of the truly elite. This growth, seen as a more organic development than anything apparently aggressive, establishes Merlyn (age 48) as a major humanitarian and a magnanimous individual, with comparisons to his fellow Hellfire Club member Lex Luthor. This is all by design, to expand the Hellfire Club's influences and public appearances, all to keep the inner workings a secret.
  • Felicity (age 25) is present when Green Arrow bails Roy Harper out of juvenile detention and offers to train him. Later, Felicity and her mother, Donna, are kidnapped by Brother Eye, a cyber-terrorist group led by her college boyfriend, Cooper Seldon, who had faked his death.

2016:

  • With information from Felicity, Green Arrow and Speedy confront the corrupt sheriff who arranged for Roy’s parents to be in the park when the fire was set, to keep them from exposing him.The sheriff is arrested and Roy’s guilt is lessened. Despite this, Roy (age 14) is spending time on the street and is introduced to drinking, smoking and drugs. He starts to hide injuries using drugs to self-medicate including heroin.
  • Emiko (age 16) returns under the moniker Red Arrow and rejoins her brother.
  • Dinah (age 19) and Craig divorce. She returns home shortly before her parents take a lengthy vacation, leaving the flower shop in her care. Training accelerates. Dinah officially becomes the new Black Canary. Dinah is invited to study with Sensei Otomo in China. Earns the nickname 'siu jerk jai' (little bird) from him.

2017:

  • The Death of Superman
  • Oliver (Age 32) joins in the fight against Doomsday but tragedy falls with the death of Superman. Vowing to not forget Superman’s legacy, he dedicates himself to protecting Metropolis as well as he can in addition to his beloved Starling City.
  • Roy’s (age 15) drug problem is found out. Team Arrow holds an intervention which causes Roy to revert to running away from his problems
  • After bringing down Scott Notting and the Vice Squad, Nightwing extends an offer for Emiko (age 17) to join the Teen Titans. Emi neither accepts nor declines at the time, and the Titans disband soon after.

2018:

  • Loki's Invasion of New York
  • Roy (age 16) is found by Team Arrow and returned to Starling City. He feels he has let Team Arrow down and this crisis of confidence makes it harder to work with the team. Ollie enrolls him in Happy Harbor High hoping it will do him good finding a place with others like himself.
  • Dinah (age 21) leaves Sensei Otomo's tutelage when she realizes he is holding back with her. She returns to Gotham, the flower shop, and her fishnets.

  • Thea acquires The Verdant, a nightclub in the Glades in Starling City, and begins renovating and expanding. In the process, they find a cult in the basement.

2022:

  • Roy (age 20) begins getting treatment for his addiction. Joining SHIELD as an agent serves as extra incentive for him to stay off drugs, though it can still be a struggle for him when going through his worst of times.
  • After a decade of seemingly unrequited love, romantic tension, missed opportunities, and horrible timing, Oliver (age 37) and Felicity (age 33) begin dating experimentally.
  • With the Titans back in operation, Oliver (age 37) suggests that Emiko (age 22) make the trip to Metropolis to see if the invitation still stands, and to further her education with college.
  • Thea (age 27) finishes renovations of The Verdant and officially opens.

2023:

  • Oliver (age 38) acquires Phoenix Towers in Hell’s Kitchen, NYC, as a way to help clean up the neighborhood. With the help of Team Arrow, he sets up an auxiliary Arrowcave in the basement of the Towers, and discovers a complex network of underground tunnels being used by the Triad for drug manufacturing, smuggling, and other illegal activities.
  • Oliver (age 38) and Felicity (age 34) finally admit their true feelings for each other. They spend seven months living together in New York City while simultaneously investigating the tunnels under Phoenix Towers.
  • Felicity (age 34) helps Oliver secure a penthouse in New York, where they set up an auxiliary Arrowcave. The two live together in New York for seven months, and she officially resigns from Queen Consolidated to avoid any accusations of impropriety. That year, Felicity launches her tech startup, Smoak Technologies. She joins S.H.I.E.L.D. as a consultant, running ‘Overwatch’ from the safety of the Triskelion. She continues as Overwatch for Team Arrow and the Justice League while balancing her roles at S.H.I.E.L.D. and as CEO of her fledgling company. Just as the pressure starts weighing on her, Felicity learns that one of her company’s largest investors is a shell corporation set up by her father, Noah Kuttler (aka The Calculator), who is also a core member of the Injustice League.

2024:

  • The Earth faces annihilation after the discovery of Galactus and his heralds.
  • Noah Kuttler (the Calculator and Felicity's father) pretends to defect from the Injustice League and stages an attack on himself in Justice League custody so that he's moved to the secure holding facility on the Watchtower. Once there, he unleashes nanobots into the Watchtower computers to try find the source of the real IJL leak and shut down the Watchtower.
  • Felicity (age 35) watches remote video feeds in horror from the NYC penthouse as her father, The Calculator, surrenders to the Justice League and is held in The Watchtower. Shortly after, the Watchtower comes under attack by other Injustice League members, and Noah releases nanobots into the station, nearly killing everyone inside, including Oliver. Discovering her father’s surrender was a ploy, Felicity watches as Oliver aims an arrow at Noah. From her angle, she can’t see that he’s only aiming at Noah’s knee, and it’s only Batman’s intervention that prevents Oliver from firing. Haunted by nightmares of Oliver and her father killing each other, Felicity hires Dr. Curtis Holt as her COO to handle day-to-day operations at Smoak Technologies, officially moving into Queen Mansion in Starling City with Oliver later that year.
