Profile
Stella is a friendly Midwestern gal, music enthusiast, and energy manipulating mutant. When she's not working for security clients, she's trying to figure out how to refine her mutant abilities. She has not had any formal training regarding her mutant abilities, but she's maintaining control in her day-to-day life.
Timeline
Timeline:
* 1990 A bouncing baby girl is born in the sticks of Ohio to a young couple who adore music. Her mother, presumably also a mutant, was able to manipulate sounds, such as changing tone and pitch. Her father thought this was magical, and the two lived a reasonably content middle-class life with their kids. Stella also has an uncle who lives with them who is ten years her senior from her grandfather's second marriage. Her mother is a counselor who loves folk music and her father is an electrician who loves metal. The two meet in love and life at the intersection of the two.
* 1997: Stella's father buys her a 1/2 size guitar following the birth of her sister.
* 2000: Stella starts to be able to see waves coming off of electronics and out of speakers. She finds she can adjust the size and shape of the waves, and blows out the beloved family JBL L100 Classics.
* 2001: Her mother provides what knowledge she can, but Stella's powers go beyond sound, so this is limited.
* 2003: Stella punches a classmate while touching an electrical outlet. Since she was on the ground, no visual on what had happened, but she had shocked the other student and questions arose. She begins having problems with her temper, and her mother pulls her out of school for a year in nature and music.
* 2004: The family buys a hobby farm to get Stella away from people. Throughout this year, she learns to control her budding powers. Her mother picks up drinking for related reasons.
* 2007: Stella's mother enters treatment for alcoholism. While Stella feels she hasn't mastered her powers, she blames herself for the stress and suppresses any questions she may have.
* 2008: Stella sees the energy radiating off of hidden cameras in her college dorm. She dismantles and reports them, but nothing ever comes of this other than an email and thank-yous from her dorm-mates. She relaxes and plays with sound and electric energy in her spare time, repairing electronics for fellow students for extra cash.
* 2010: Stella uses up electives in a basic self-defense Karate class. It's not fancy, but during this time she realizes that she can dissipate and redirect kinetic energy, such as punches or kicks. She feels horribly guilty about using this on other people, but realizes it could come in handy at a later date.
* 2011: Graduates from college. She begins working for a private investigator on a whim, and ends up putting her powers to use detecting hidden technology. She turns this into her career.
* 2021: Moves to New York City to work for a paranoid client to de-bug their properties, and stays on retainer. She will happily take their money while she spends her time browsing old records in music shops and playing her guitar. However, she feels that there's more she can do with her powers away from the sphere of her family, and seeks mentorship in expanding and refining her abilities.

Personality
Friendly:
She genuinely enjoys other people, particularly talking about what they've read or listened to. She genuinely is interested what people like and in offering her own suggestions in turn. An opportunity to introduce someone to a new band is a blessing, not a means to claim that she knew them before they were cool. She remembers personal tastes and is great at giving gifts.
Guilty-Ridden:
She is extremely easy to lay the guilt on thick with to get what someone wants. She's better at seeing it post-investigator job, but this is a cultural weapon that tends to decimate her.
Handy:
Not so much of people, but of devices. She's quite technically skilled when it comes to repairing day-to-day objects. Fixing these things for others is rewarding to her.
Music Lover:
Stella loves a good show, no matter the size. If she's the only one in the audience, she'll applaud and tip. She'll listen to a street musician while ignoring the world around her, she'll dance at any show, she'll sink into contentment with oversized headphones plugged into a record player, and it all brings her joy.
Observant:
Due to her time spent working for a private investigator and her powers, she's very aware of her surroundings. It's not that she's overly suspicious, but she holds no delusions that all people are good all the time.
Repressed:
She definitely tends to keep things to herself, bottling them up. There's no explosion, just putting emotions in a box until she can work them out through dancing or music or working out... if that happens. It works much of the time for her. She's not the type to yell at someone or get confrontational unless there's a good reason. But she will be passive-aggressive or freeze someone out to 'punish' them.

Powers
Durable:
Her mutant nature has granted her better durability than a plain human. She can take a hit like a champ, even if she doesn't dissipate the energy. She is still vulnerable to unseen projectiles or severe temperatures.
Energy Detection:
Stella can see energy fields within her sightline. They appear to her as an overlay to her vision in different colors and waveforms. They go away if she closes her eyes, though she's 'seeing' them with more of a sixth sense than her actual eyes. This must be in person. Video or photos will appear flat to her.
Energy Dissipation:
Stella can break up energies before they reach her. A physical punch or kick can feel like nothing, a fall can be mitigated by dropping away the energy gathered on the way down.
Energy Manipulation:
Stella can manipulate energy forces within fifty feet of her body, but cannot create them. This includes sound waves, electricity, kinetic, and non-magical energy thrown from other beings. She can redirect the energies, amplify or dissipate them. This power can affect two separate points within her sphere of 50' at any given time, or one close grouping of multiple targets. It's far difficult for her to do so, however, and one point of focus is much more under her control. Once targets are beyond 50' away from her, they act as they would naturally, though something pushed or thrown will continue to move with the amount of force applied.
With sound, she can change volume, tone, and pitch up to 100 (approximately an increase or decrease of industrial noise, but not as much as a gunshot) decibels in either direction. She can hold onto kinetic or electrical energy for up to five minutes, but beyond that she gets nauseous and must release it. This may be due to nerves.
Her powers are somewhat underdeveloped but under control. She's likely repressing some of her abilities and has a lack of knowledge regarding mutants in general. Energies do not hurt her if she's aware of them and actively changing their path or dissipating them, but she lacks superhuman speed or strength and be clubbed over the head as easily as anyone else if she's not watching out.
Energy Redirection:
Conversely, she can repel these energies back at the source. She could use the energy of the fall to push herself back up, or push a car back from hitting her. This takes conscious effort and does not happen automatically.
Energy Transference:
She cannot store energy long term, but she can transfer it from one item or vessel to another, for example holding a dead battery and charging it from a socket or another battery.
Skills
Detection:
She is very aware of any and all electronics or other items that emit energy when she is in proximity. She is familiar with many surveillance devices, and her knowledge combined with her powers makes her good at her job.
Investigation:
Having enjoyed this job for a few years after college, she can be quite nosy and great with a telephoto lens when she needs to be.
Music:
Stella plays guitar medium-well, though she reads tabs better than actual sheet music and can carry a tune vocally. She knows she's not performance material, but she still enjoys the hobby.
Repair:
Smartphones, laptops, wiring a camper, she can do it. Her energy-detection doesn't hurt! She has electrical experience from her father teaching her and learned more in school, and light carpentry experience from working on her family hobby farm. If there's a manual or a video, she can pretty much figure out basics. She's not building any rockets, but she'll get your phone to work.
Resources
Employment:
She's good at her job and word of mouth has been helpful for her. New jobs are as plentiful as security-concerned clients, she'll never go hungry.
Family:
Despite fleeing Ohio for greener pastures, she does have a close bond with her family and could scamper back home if she needed to.
Investigative Community:
She's on good terms with former employers and has a network of fellow snoops. She knows how the gadgets work and is happy to employ them as needed, and is never at a loss for tips!
Weaknesses
Benefit of the Doubt:
She's not a complete sucker, but a good argument can at least give her pause. As she'd prefer to go along to get along, she can be manipulated. This doesn't seem to extend into her work life at all, but she can be socially pushed in a lot of directions by people she sees as friends or family.
Booze:
When stressed, she can crawl into a bottle for a while. While this might have been safer in Ohio, not so much in the city. She's a fun drunk, and gullible when she's intoxicated. Her powers are harder to control in this state.
Family Drama:
Other people in her family are hitting benchmarks that she is not, and it can make her feel insecure. Anyone who finds out about these particulars can push her buttons.
Isolated:
She's well aware that she sees things differently than others, that her colorful world is likely hers alone. She does't pine to be normal, but she realizes that she's set apart from most people.
Nosy:
People have secrets. Sometimes, she really wants to know what they are and hoard them. This can also get her in trouble.
Untrained:
While her mother tried her best, Stella has a tentative grasp on her powers. With proper instruction, she could amplify the range of her powers and her ability to hold energy, as well as learn to manipulate other types. For now, she is limited to electricity, sound, and kinetic energy.
