Profile
Shun Cruz is a young mixed heritage student who's mother taught him some magic and circumstances made him a mutant. A responsible individual, he does his best to keep in hiding while wanting to do more and be more out there. He dreams of bigger, but he's still high school and shooting for a military career like his old man. Not that he is sure a mutant will be let in, nor what would be done to one like him. For now, he just tries to stay out of trouble, keep his slice of New York safe, and keep being someone his parents can be proud of.
Timeline
Timeline:
2007: Born to Sayuri Otani and Warren Cruz in Japan. Parents married there while Warren was in the military, with Sayuri coming along to the US.
2009: Warren settles into the local New York base.
2014: Shun discovers his mother's Kamar-taj books. Reading them in supposed secret with only his mother knowing but seeing it as harmless, he practices some of the forms there. At least until he accidently makes the spark of Eldritch Magic happen. Sayuri takes more active attention to her son's reading and hides the more dangerous books while actively teaching Shun how to perform the magics and taking him through defensive forms.
2015: Shun is enrolled in school and subject to a bit of bullying. In response, Warren teaches him Marine tactics that are non-lethal with his father's first words being "be responsible, and settle it peacefully first" being one of the parts that aids in Shun's growth.
2017: Warren is deployed in civilian evacuation in the events of the Doomsday attack.
2018: While out and about, the young family is trapped in the Assault of New York. Warren meets up with a group of Marines and helps evacuate civilians, only for a frost giant's attack to injure him. The resulting stress forces Shun's mutation out while he and Sayuri were watching from an alleyway. Sayuri manages to get Warren to safety while Shun takes to the back alleys to help others by thwarting attacks and using his training in his anger. Afterwards, he feels bad for it.
2019: Sayuri increases Shun's training while they test how durable his new transformation is. They also move and take care of Warren who is forced to early retirement.
2020: After running into some more trouble, Shun decides to take the name "Tekkai" or "Ironclad" for his alternate form, but otherwise stays at his school studies. He keeps up his eldritch training with Sayuri, but Warren discovers the secret. At first upset, he understands and helps Shun with his training.
2022: Enrolls in high school. His first foray into vigilate work ends up being stopping drug dealers on campus. The drug dealers are left stammering about some sort of iron insect demon wielding hellfire to the police and it's attributed to drugs. Parents are furious, but proud.
2024: Current day. Shun has avoided going out as much as possible, fearing what may happen to his family and the anti-mutant sentiments if it comes out that he is a mutant.

Personality
Aggressive:
Shun can be very aggressive towards his goals. It's mostly his age, but once he has a goal in mind he pursues it as best as he can. Studying hard for grades, working his body to the bone, and generally pushing himself to become better is all a part of this. It also shows when he fights as Tekkai with his identity hidden.
Honorable:
Shun tries to hold up to the values that his parents raised him with, even out as Tekkai. He wants to be as honorable as he can be in a fair fight. He knows his transformation and magic is somewhat unfair against criminal elements, but they also use guns regularly and knives so sees it as a valid trade off. In high school, he doesn't cheat nor does he try to take the easy route. He hits the regular route head on and gives his all while assuming others will not cheat as well.
Pride:
One of the most important aspects is that Shun has a deep pride for his family and what he accomplishes. He looks at it as something that he can be proud to have been a part of usually. That pride can be his downfall, but it depends upon his actions down the line. Shun's proud of his skills, what he has done with his body, and what he has accomplished. It makes him just slightly arrogant when it is brought up, but pointing out faults will also work at that self-confidence that he has.
Responsibility:
Shun takes responsibility very, very seriously. It is this aspect that he applies to himself. He sees what gifts and skills he has as being something that he can use to do something with. And that it is his responsibility to only use them when he has to, not when he wants to. To that he strives to better himself and become a better person. He even got his dream of joining the Marines like his father from his saying of "be responsible" and "settle it peacefully first" that grew into this. If given a task, he is going to settle it the best he can with what he has. Asking for help is something he will do if he runs into a snag. Failing at something will eat at him as he tries to figure out why and how it happened. Whether the other person was just better in competition or he got a question wrong on a test. Usually he tries to find out but if it is hidden, it will gnaw at him considerably.

Powers
Eldritch Magic:
Shun has been training with his mother who is a former mystic of Kamar-taj. He can perform some of the more basic magic of that discipline as detailed on his sheet, thanks to his training under her with a potential for more as he learns or possibly finds a good teacher.
Magic: Constructs:
Shun's primary ability is in constructs. He can make up to two at once and they always appear as orange as well as give off sparks. Their primary use is defensive but can be used to make offensive blunt weaponry or extend his reach. As a defense he primary makes the popular tao mandalas that he can layer together. Other constructs he uses include energy whips which can go up to 20 feet, a baton, and gloves by wrapping the whip around his hands. The constructs can be tough enough to take bullets but will break down under stronger fire. In all cases they are simply mystic blunt objects when used offensively.
Mutant: Transformation:
Shun's mutation is rather a simple one. He can metabolize energies to produce a transformation to a slightly taller, more durable form. The form absorbs whatever Shn is wearing at the time. Backpack, clothes, etc. are all absorbed and replaced by the insectoid-like form. The carapace is thick enough to block your average knife and take a punch. The only other thing it has is glowing yellow eyes.
Mystic Sense:
Shun is still developing the classical "mystic sense" but currently can get a good feeling of something happening. He just can't identify who, what, how, or why. Just a pointed direction. This also extends to mystical phenomena such as ghosts, spirits, etc. but does not allow him to see or hear such.
Strong Willed:
Not really a power, but more something he has been raised with. Shun is very strong willed and it shows when he puts his mind to something. He doesn't back down easily, has the will to keep getting up, and will be ready to do so as many times as he can and rest when the job is done.
Skills
Athletics:
Shun is actively engaged in athletics to make himself fit for when he gets to the age of joining up in the military if he still goes that route. He is well aware of what is needed to get into shape. Weight lifting, running, track and field. He has even engaged in some parkour to get around easier.
Drawing:
Shun happens to be good at drawing what he has seen. It started as a side hobby before it just became something more as he started to use it to draw faces, things he had scene that were harder to describe, and as a way to do something when he had to wait on his father's appointments to help him get home. Since he became active as Tekkai, he has used it to draw faces, vehicles, and other things that he has seen to help show his parents what and who is making some neighborhood trouble.
Fighting:
Shun began learning around 8 how to defend himself against bullies thanks to his father. His main training is a form of MCMAP from the US Marines. He is skilled enough to take on your average street level thug and some low skilled martial artists. All of his training is nonlethal, and he strives to continue that. This training as Shun is a last resort, whereas Tekkai uses it to disarm and knock out an opponent as quickly as he can.
Languages:
Shun knows both English and Japanese. He can speak English fluently, but has a slight accent in Japanese usually. The Japanese is a pass down from his mother who grew up there.
Meditation:
Part of his mother's training is active meditation. He can ignore most outside stimulus very easily. He also knows what most take to be tai chi as a more active form of meditation but is really practice forms from Kamar-taj.

Sayuri Chuz:
Sayuri is Shun's mother. She is a former Kamar-taj mystic and still keeps the occasional tie to the society. She left to be with her husband Warren Chuz and the two are still married despite Warren forced to retire. As a side job she sells herbal medicine supplements and works out of a clinic in Chinatown. She has books and knowledge that she keeps on various mystic articles and is the only one in Shun's family that knows he is Tekkai. At least as far as he knows.
Warren Chuz:
Warren is Shun's father. He is an ex-Marine with ties as well. Despite being down most of a leg with his injury and attempts by Sayuri to help him with her own training, he is still a retired Marine and it shows. He supports his son and has contacts with the military still that can get some information or otherwise aid his son if he thinks he is going into trouble. Particularly this is still serving marines in the NYPD among other things. He also works out of the veteran affairs division.
Weaknesses
Age:
Even despite his transformed state looking a bit older, it's obvious that Shun is just a teenager. Not even an adult by society standards.
Family:
Despite their being able to take care of themselves, targetting Shun's family is one way to make him agree about something. He cares for both a lot, as well as extended family in Japan and in the US.
Half-Trained Mystic:
Shun's mom is not the best teacher. She has kept up her practice, but the arts she does know is for her, not for him. And she does not have the benefit of her mentors she had in Kamar-taj nor the resources there. Shun is at best, half-trained. Another mystic is liable to see this, recognize it, and use it against him as it is obvious he does not have any other spells, mystic abilities, or the like in his arsenal. Neither Shun nor his parents realize this.
Mystic Limitations:
His magic is limited by three aspects. Self-confidence in himself, his willpower to manipulate the energies needed, and the ability to move his hands and arms to perform it. Lacking the first two means his magic will not be as strong, while the third means that he will not be able to use it at all.
Self-Confidence:
A few things have bothered Shun about his choices so far. One is that he could be doing more good out there on the streets than he has been. Right now he works to keep his little part of New York as safe as he can. One of the burning questions in his mind tend to be "What if?" as he knows he has some powers, and while not as amazing as someone in the Avengers, Justice League, or the like he knows he could be doing good on the level that most tend to be busy with the bigger, badder threats out there. The other is that he could publicly declare himself a mutant and be done with the hiding as well as possibly work to get recruited into the Marines quicker. There are a lot of possibilities with what Shun does know, and a lot of his issues are life choices that have been for his family's safety more than anything else.
Transformation Limits:
Shun's transformation is very limited. Unlike some others, he does not get the enhanced strength or other such characteristics. Instead he is just a durable individual who can't even stop bullets with his bare skin/carpace resulting from it. The downsides are a raised body heat temperature, having to get more proteins (snack bars are a must) in him, and being exhausted enough he needs to sit down and catch his breath.
