Synopsis: Jon learns about winter New York weather and runs across Tandy. Or should we say First Mate Tandy?
Cast of Characters: Jon Kent, Tandy Bowen

Jon Kent has posed:
The day's weather has turned sour. While it's certainly been cold of late, at least the sun was shining. At least until it wasn't! The clouds rolled in quickly and with them came heavy rainfall. For Superboy, rainfall wasn't truly much of a concern and neither was the bitter cold of an otherwise frosty December in New York. For Jon Kent the weather presents another layer to contend with when it comes to maintaining the same sort of secrecy that his has long persisted with his own father. No matter the dimension that father may or may not be. In addition to the need to maintain appearances, there's also the simple fact that in a soft case tucked beneath his arm is Jon's laptop. Which isn't likely to be well suited to the sudden downpour of frigid rain that pelts the New York City cityscape. This causes Jon to run for cover, his jacket held out from his body and the soft case sheathed laptop tucked between jacket and body.

He's only recently left the ESU campus before Jon's sent scrambling to reach a nearby doorway. More than likely he simply seeks to shelter beneath the nearest overhang and it's beneath that overhang that the driving rain taps out its fury. The sound of it striking the awning sends Jon's blue eyes skyward, as though offering some sort of silent appreciation toward the awning for its service.

Jon seems destined to remain there until the door that the awning shelters swings open with the quiet tinkle of tiny bells as a couple depart their late afternoon lunch. The sound of bells draws Jon's attention and he makes a split second decision. Whie still cradling his laptop and its case beneath his jacket, his free hand reaches out to halt the door's closing. The bells tinkle for a second more, before the abrupt halt silences them. Then it's inside that Jon slips, allowing the door to swing slowly closed behind himself.

He's practically dripping rain as he lifts a hand to rake dark curls back from his forehead as he steps into Jonah's Place. The pirate themed interior seems to take Jon by surprise. Which is clearly evident by the high rise of his eyebrows and the way that his mouth hangs slightly agape.

Tandy Bowen has posed:
Rain. Bitter cold. Freezing temperatures.

All par for the course for anyone that has lived in New York for any amount of time during the winter season and for Tandy it was no different even if these days she at least at the benefit of actually having a place to perch at instead of being homeless. It means she has quite the soft heart for those having to run out in the rain, due to necessity or not and as Jon is running in the rain he might be able to hear a knock in the window and someone inside gesturing for him to come over.

"Poor guy." Tandy is commenting to Jonah, the owner of the place where she's been working at these last couple of months. A pretty swell place all in all, even if she at times has to endure the odd comment of 'Can I plunder your booty?'. A bit eye-rolly at times, specially when some of those commenting are coming in with their wives or kids. Still, it's a nice enough place to work at and that it's close the ESU is a bonus considering her plans of enrolling for next semester's dance class. Though right now? It's time to save someone from the rain.

"Hey, welcome to Jonah's.." That's Tandy, a radiant smile on her expression while she approaches the doorway where the dripping Jonah is at, letting out a laugh at how his mouth hangs agape, "Or should I say..." a beat, "Yarr, you been up on the deck too long, matey. Time to get your warmed up." look, she is still practicing her pirate accent okay?

Jon Kent has posed:
"Hi, thank you," Jon answers back at the greeting with a slight smile as he tries in vain to dry himself off. Though as he takes note of the water dripping from his jacket and to the floor below, Jon ceases trying to dry himself off. It's the fact that he's brought a generous amount of water indoors with him and is now spreading it about the entryway into the bar and grill that causes the halt. It's clear that he doesn't wish to make poor circumstances worse. He looks up again and carefully extracts the case from beneath his jacket, with a look cast toward both Jonah and Tandy before he politely asks, "You don't mind if I shelter just until the rain passes, right? I don't mean to intrude or anything," he explains with a slight shake of his head to join with his assurances that he'll be out of the establishment's hair as soon as possible.

The laptop and case is set aside on a nearby flat surface, though it's balanced precariously and that results in Jon's hand remaining atop it in order to grant it greater stability.

Tandy's greeting beyond the initial, as her accent delves into that of a pirate, results in Jon's otherwise serious expression cracking and a smile quickly spreading out across his features. The droplets of water that cling to his glasses obscures his vision somewhat, but under these circumstances it's the voice and accent that's important.

"A little too long on deck," he agrees with a soft chuckle, "any help would be appreciated, but isn't necessary, thank you". It's hard telling whether or not he truly thinks that he doesn't need to be dried off and warmed up or whether he's simply trying to be polite.

The beauty of the legal system is that while Jon normally wouldn't be permitted in a bar, but the presence of an eatery alters that somewhat. He still can't be served alcohol! But the fact that he can order food means that he's not barred from the establishment. He pats at himself for a moment more and, likely upon patting the wallet tucked away within a pocket, Jon offers a nod toward Jonah and Tandy before he remarks, "Is there a special of the day or something? Something warm sounds fantastic".

Tandy Bowen has posed:
"The Captain is fine with taking stragglers in." So says Tandy, one hand resting on her hip as she grimaces at Jon's attempts to dry himself off. Yea, that won't really work. But then again, it's the kind of thing she knows all too well. She's dressed in the house uniform which means a white blouse that tightens on her torso almost like a corset, pair of black pants and boots that are reminiscing of older times, giving the woman an adventurous look. Her hair is left loose, those long bangs of blonde hair draped down her head and down her shoulders.

"And nonsense, come with me. You will be catching a flu with that jacket on." Tandy beckons with a finger, brooking little *fight* back at her 'orders' as she starts walking to the back. Jonah just chuckles and arches a brow, "You better do as Tandy says." he warns Jon before moving along to go take care of other clients on one of the tables.

Tandy leads towards a back room where there's a table and some chairs but more importantly there's a heater in it, giving the room quite the contrast to the cold of the outside.

"Alright, take it off." she tells Jon. So bossy. But her tone is more of a caring one than not, knowing the consequences of getting sick in winter in New York. It can be deadly for some.

Jon Kent has posed:
"Thank you both, really," Jon offers back to both Jonah and Tandy with a warm and appreciative smile. He ceases his efforts to brush himself dry on account of it simply being a fruitless and meritless endeavor. It'll never happen. At least not through mundane means. Could he spin himself fast enough that he'd be dry afterward? Quite possibly. Would that draw far more attention that he's willing to draw? Absolutely. Which means that Jon's left to commit himself to the help of others and he begins to follow after Tandy, while offering another appreciative nod toward Jonah as he passes by.

Though the warning from Jonah, whether sincere or not, seems enough to put a little extra pep in Jon's step while he follows along. "Thank you again," he offers back to Jonah. Manners and politeness can go a long, long way. Especially in a place like New York City. Where they so often seem to be in short supply. Though he does pause, double back, and retrieve the case with his laptop. He doesn't hug it to his side for fear of soaking it in the water that has made his jacket soggy, but he does make certain to take it with him.

Once in the back the case is set gently aside and the instruction to remove his jacket results in an agreeable nod and Jon hopping to doing so with a quiet, "Ope," before he begins to shrug himself free of the dressy pea coat. He doesn't hand it toward Tandy, but instead holds onto it while offering it up for further instructions. He does at least have manners enough to introduce himself, "I really appreciate your willingness to help. Most of the people I've met in the city are," he pauses a moment before he concludes, "a little too busy to be helpful. My name's Jon, by the way," he concludes with a warm smile. At least the rain droplets marring the lenses of his glasses has began to evaporate, allowing him to see a little more clearly and focus his attention upon Tandy.

Tandy Bowen has posed:
Whether Jon gives Tandy the coat or not it's taken from his hands once the young man has divested himself from it, "I will take that." she says in that manner of someone used to doing this way too often, holding it in front of herself as she brings it closer to the heater, back to him for a few moments as she sets it closer to the heating device, "That's New York for you." she says in agreement to his words, "Everyone's always busy running to the next thing."

She twirls back to look Jon's way, "I am Tandy." she says in way of introduction, then rests both hands on her hips, "Or First Mate Tandy when out working at the diner." she adds with a small laugh, dropping the pose the moment after and running one hand through her hair, "I take it you are not from New York then. You have that ..., I am from a small town kinda look." though by the way she says it seems to be something she appreciates, her smile evident on her expression.

"We have a bathroom in the back too. You can use it to clean up while I go get you something warm to eat."

Jon Kent has posed:
"First Mate? So you're saying that you're kind of a big deal around this place?" Jon's smile returns easily. Though when the talk turns to his small town look, his hand rises up to rub at the back of his neck with a little shrug of his shoulders. "I'm definitely from a small town, but I've been staying in Metropolis for awhile. Then recently started spending more time in the city," by which he surely means New York City, "while I'm doing an exchange program with ESU". He seems to move on readily from the subject of school though. More than likely because he's not looking to lead into a dull discussion or otherwise dwell on it more than necessary.

Instead Jon turns a glance to his shoulder, spies the nearby bathroom door, and back to Tandy. He offers her a firm nod in answer before he hikes a thumb back toward the bar and dining area, "Once I've dried up a bit, do I just sit anywhere or should I wait to be seated?"

Though the talk of something warm to eat does warrant Jon politely waving a hand, perhaps to cast aside any talk of charity or generosity, "I'll pay for a bowl of soup or something of course". Though if charity wasn't being offered, then Jon's simply stating the obvious. Of course he'll have to pay!

Tandy Bowen has posed:
Tandy turns her chin up just so at Jon's inquiry whether she is a big deal around here or not, a playful twist to her lips, "Of course, right after Captain Jonah. So careful that I don't make you walk the plank, eh?" she laughs again and just shakes her head to herself, "Sorry, just having some fun." yet as Jon confirms not being from around here there's a nod out of her, "Ooh, so you are at ESU." her eyes shine with interest at it, "I am looking to enroll on a few classes myself." a beat, "Soon.." she chews on her lower lip a little and while Jon seems more than happy at wanting to move past the subject of school she asks, "What are you studying?"

"You can sit here." She says, with a gesture to the back room, "It's about time for my pause too so I can eat with you." she says, brushing her hand off at the mention of payment, "It's no bother, just have to make a bigger portion and...." those blue eyes move up and down on Jon, thoughtful, "... probably a rather larger portion too." at least considering the more powerful build she sees in him.

"I will be back." And she starts striding off towards the kitchen.
