Commissioner Gordon Live And In Person
Date of Scene: 07 August 2022
Location: Gotham University
Synopsis: Commissioner Gordon is a guest speaker at Gotham University.
Cast of Characters: Jim Gordon, Stephanie Brown, Alfred Pennyworth, Delores Klein

Jim Gordon has posed:
It's at the end of his discussion and some final remarks. The Commissioner has kept everything on subject. He's also spent a bit longer than might be expected on professional integrity and ethics, without going into the discussion of Gotham itself. He's been spekaing of the obligations they have no matter what subject they take on.
A few moments to take questions from the students which almost always hit on sore subjects that Gordon has answered to the best of his ability and as in depth as possible. But as with everything on the specifics of Gotham it can still be exhausting. No matter how long he's been back as Commissioner, it still feels like treading water.
So once they're outside the auditorium, Gordon glances about for wherever the nearest area they can take a smoke in.

Stephanie Brown has posed:
Stephanie Brown had attended with one of her friends. Francisco Graza wasn't in a major dealing with law enforcement, but when Stephanie mentioned Commissioner Gordon was giving a talk and she and a few others in the track for forensics were going, he'd tagged along.

They'd sat near the back, and Stephanie had snapped a picture of the Commissioner at the podium that she sent off to Barbara along with the caption, "Look who the guest lecturer is!"

Now the pair are outside the auditorium, Stephanie hanging around for an opportunity to say hello to Jim Gordon. She doesn't know him the best, but has met him a few times via Barbara, whom he'd know had taken on the college student as a bit of a mentor. If perhaps not realizing exactly what skills Barbara Gordon was helping impart.

Francisco's phone buzzes and he checks it. "Ah, Jordanna's wanting me to meet her over at the Union. Want to meet up there later?" he asks Stephanie.

The blond girl looks thoughtful for a moment. "Depends, will Jordanna be there?" she asks.

That draws a laugh. "She's not that bad, Steph," the large Latino replies.

"Yeah, not to you anyway," Stephanie tells him. "Go on, if I'm able to catch up later I will, but don't wait for me."

She turns then and seeing the Commissioner come outside, she makes her way over to him. "Commissioner Gordon? It's Stephanie Brown," she offers with a smile as she adjusts her bookbag over onto her other shoulder. Though she doesn't doubt he knows who she is, it's polite at least.

Alfred Pennyworth has posed:
It's hard to say how long the Rolls had been parked in front of auditorium, but Alfred certainly looked as if he belonged there despite the almost stiflingly formal nature of his dress as he stood near the driver's side door reading through a newspaper in what passed for a 'loose' fashion given his normal demeanor. As soon as those seeking an escape from the lecture hall as quickly as possible began to file out though he stiffened himself, folded the paper, and tucked it under an arm before adjusting his sleeves.

Catching sight of Stephanie toward the top of the steps he began to make his way up to greet her with a warm smile before it broadened ever so slightly at the Commissioner's appearance. "Good afternoon, Commissioner - Miss Brown. I fear my attention to detail is slipping lately, I wasn't aware who the guest speaker was today, i'll have to work on it," he quipped dryly, extending a hand to Gordon.

"Beg pardon, Miss Brown, I was just in the area, and thought i'd drop by to see if you were free for tea," Alfred explained as an aside to the young woman in an apologetic fashion. "I certainly don't mind if you had a private interview or the like. I'm sure I can busy myself elsewhere."

Jim Gordon has posed:
As he's approached over, Jim Gordon goes to pause at the appearance of Stephanie, "Miss Brown. Good to see you again. Barbara's always telling me great things about you and that you'r ea real go getter. And there's not enough skilled people in your field. You're doing something important that's going to help a lot of people and make them safer." Forensics is about getting evidence for crimes, analysing data, and helping make sure that they can find the people who did the crime and put them away; or to make sure that they're not going after an innocent person.
    Particularly in Gotham.
"How far along are you with your studies? Second year I think?" He puts that out in a sense he hasn't been told or doesn't exactly remember. It's an opening for Stephanie to update him on things or pepper him with questions if she has any.
At the approach of Alfred, Jim breaks into a smile, "Mister Pennyworth. I hope that things have been going well for you and your son." That's always been how the Commissioner has seen the two. He might not know Bruce Wayne well, but as far as Gordon is concerned Bruce doesn't nearly deserve the reputation he seems to get no matter what he does. "And please do feel free to stay if we're not bothering you."

Stephanie Brown has posed:
Stephanie returns a smile to the Commissioner and nods as she replies, "Finished my sophomore year, junior starting up. Two more to go," she says. "Not that long ago I'd have never thought this was even a possibility for me. Keeping my grades up too."

As Alfred approaches, the blond coed's face lights up. "Hi Alfred," she says warmly. "Oh, what a nice surprise. I am actually, all done with classes for the day. Just came to hear the Commissioner's lecture. Which I enjoyed a lot. I know how hard the GCPD has to work," she comments to both men.

She looks back to Commissioner Gordon to ask, "Would you like to join us for tea as well if you don't have to be anywhere? There's a nice little coffee house on the edge of campus with some outside seating in the shade that is perfect on a nice day like this?"

Alfred Pennyworth has posed:
Letting out a dry laugh, Alfred shrugged in a helpless fashion while rolling his eyes. "Master Wayne is as well as ever - though trying to get him to take a break is an exercise in futility. I've been lead to believe you're just as hard headed since your return, much to our benefit," the butler replied. The trio stood atop a flight of stairs on a surprisingly nice day in Gotham, conversing just outside the doors to one of the university's lecture halls.

Alfred casually waved down toward where the Rolls was parked on the side of the street before nodding toward Stephanie. "Did you commute out, Miss Brown? If you'd like I could use a navigator finding this coffee house, as long as nobody is going to poke fun at you being accompanied by an old man," he asked. "Did you drive out yourself, Commissioner? I don't mind dropping you off at your vehicle or the like," he offered quickly, smoothing out his lapel.

"You'll both have to forgive any smell of fish. I have a swordfish on ice, and felt it best if I picked it up myself."

Jim Gordon has posed:
Jim Gordon would smile over, "Sure, thank you. I wouldn't mind catching up with the girl that Barbara calls about as brilliant as any she's ever met and had the chance to work with. She goes on about how motivated you are. So please, I'm more than happy to." He would gesture over at Alfred, "And if you don't mind as well I'd enjoy talking with you as well, Mister Pennyworth."
At 'take a break' Alfred would get a low chuckle, "I suppose. And I drove myself out. It's not that far from where I'm usually at. And I can walk to my vehicle." An old man was stubborn. Also him being dropped off by a limousine at his poor car wouldn't lend itself to the best visibility.

Delores Klein has posed:
A bicycle skids to a stop. A kid with a high-visibility pinny on looks at the group. He pulls out a cell phone and looks at it, then at the group's men. He walks straddling his bike to get closer. "Hey," he says. "Are you Commissioner James Gordon?" he asks.

Stephanie Brown has posed:
Stephanie uses a thumb to motion over in a particular direction. "Walked over from the brownstone," she replies to Alfred. She and Dick were living there so she'd be close to campus, until Bruce had given them the lake house on the Wayne estate. "So happy to ride along. Though it's a nice enough day and short enough we could walk together," she says. "It's just to the right of that building with the red roof," she says, motioning to a row of buildings across the street from campus nearby.

She gives a soft chuckle at what Commissioner Gordon says about her. "I have a feeling you're putting a nice spin on it. I'd expect more like, 'that girl is always doing the unexpected, she could fall out of a boat and miss the water somehow'," Stephanie says. Actually the quote was more about falling off a building and missing the ground, but that suggests too much of their night time activities.

She looks over as the cyclist pulls up. "Ah, the price of fame," she comments softly as the Commissioner is recognized.

Alfred Pennyworth has posed:
Feigning a scowl, Alfred casts a wry grin at Gordon. "The youth - one day down the road they'll realize what they do to us, hm?" he quips while making a show of stretching his legs. "I suppose I could use the exercise though," he agreed with the suggestion as he peered searchingly for the red roof down the road.

Alfred startled only slightly at the cyclist's skidding stop, fixing the new arrival with a curious quirk of a brow as their glance darted between the phone and the Commissioner. He stepped aside off to the side of Stephanie to get out of Gordon's way as he looked about casually for any other disturbances in the baseline.

Jim Gordon has posed:
Jim Gordon would turn over to the man approaching on the bicycle, "Yes, that's me. Do you need any help?" That's normally why he gets approached. Still, there's a subtle maneuver over in his body to make sure that he's between Alfred and Stephanie and the man approaching. Just in case there is some sort of danger to make sure he's between the line of fire and them.
"If this is an emergency then it's probably best you stay with me until we can get some backup over." He goes to look over at the man and makes himself relax.
Doesn't look like he's going to be able to make the tea..

Delores Klein has posed:
The boy on the bike might have his license, he's likely at about that age, but he also doesn't look like 'emergency' is a word that's on his mind, right now. As he considers it, he reaches into the elastic of his athletic shorts and pulls out a money belt, undoing that as he speaks to the commissioner. "I don't know, man. I just have something I'm supposed to deliver." He hunches over to look at the belt which has a little combination lock on it. He undoes that and opens it, unzipping it before pulling out a slip of paper. He holds it out, offering it to Gordon. "I'm supposed to tell you not to send electronic mail about it, but I think that's supposed to mean texting about it, too. Anyway, I'm supposed to wait while you read it."

Stephanie Brown has posed:
Stephanie Brown gives a warm chuckle back to Alfred and says, "Oh right, you could probably outrun me I have no doubts," she tells him with a warm laugh. "And the Commissioner too." Hopefully not, or Barbara would have her doing sprints for the next three weeks.

As the courier retrieves the letter and passes it over to the Commissioner, Stephanie stays over at Alfred's side. Her curiosity is up, but neither does she want to be seeming to snoop. Though she definitely does want to after that comment about not communicating about it electronically.

Jim Gordon has posed:
Jim Gordon would let out a sigh, "All right, please give it over. Do you need for me to sign for something with it?" He would ask dryly. "And do tell whomever sent you by courier that you gave the item over and there were no issues with it." As for the conditions, Gordon gives a nod - but Stephanie and Alfred would notice he was not saying he would verbally nor openly agreeing to the conditions.
Given the way it's been sent he's reasonably sure that he can mark at least one source off the list. The item will be reviewed later when he's somewhere isolated and can inspect it.. First to make sure there's nothing like a bomb on it, next no tracer or listening device.. Then if he needs it to take Barbara up on her offer.

"Anything else while you're here?"

Alfred Pennyworth has posed:
Furrowing his brow, Alfred regards the exchange with some level of skepticism as he clasped his hands behind his back and rocked on his heels for just a moment. "Hm - never a dull moment, eh, Commissioner?" he asked dryly. "Is this the call to adventure? I'm afraid I haven't dealt with some kind of dead drop in some twenty or thirty years, I may be out of practice."

Despite the off hand joking, he nonetheless remained stiff while maintaining a thin smile. "Nothing like bike couriers and mysterious circumstances to get the blood pumping on a day you're hoping to just enjoy tea and a fish fillet..."

Delores Klein has posed:
The bicycled lad shakes his head. "Naw," he says. "You're cool." After nodding at the instruction to tell that there were no issues with it, he says, "Just let me know when you read it." Then, the lad sits back down on his bicycle seat to wait while the grown ups (or thereabout) react to the hand-delivered letter. More than anything else, he looks mostly bored. He pulls his phone from his pocket again just to check the time, then unlocks it. Then he swipes around a bit before he starts playing a game while he waits. Apparently whoever told him to wait didn't tell him to pay attention.

Stephanie Brown has posed:
Stephanie Brown tells Alfred in a light-hearted tone, "I bet the CSI's never get those kind of messages. Except in a TV show. Maybe I could take up acting as a minor and get on one of those shows. If they haven't gone out of style by the time I graduate." The whole tone makes it just her joking around.

The girl's blue eyes do peer over with a bit of curiosity showing, though she covers it mostly by looking back to Alfred and giving Jim Gordon time to deal with the letter as he chooses. "I caught some blue gill in the lake," she comments to him. "Admittedly, I've never cooked fish myself before. I mean, not one that was, you know. Wriggling still at the point it came into my possession. I was going to look up online how to scale it and prepare it," she tells him.

Jim Gordon has posed:
Jim Gordon would nod, "All right. Just give me a moment." First, Gordon goes to take out a quick glove to put it on his hand and a small swiss army knife on his keychain. He goes to work it over and opens up the letter. Twisting it away from him as he does so with the intent of getting the flap open. And also covering just in case there's something coated on it that it's facing the other way. "I take it the rest of you can hardly stand the suspsense."

Delores Klein has posed:
There's a moment of complacency while the kid plays a game on his phone that gives the adults time to talk about fish before he realizes what was said. He looks up at Gordon and says, "Huh? Man, I don't know. I'm supposed to wait until you read it. You don't want to open it, hold it up to the light or some shit. Long as we can both pretend you read it, I don't care." He shrugs. "I get paid either way, man."

Alfred Pennyworth has posed:
"Positively trembling in anticipation, Commissioner," Alfred replies dryly. His fingers clasp about the watch on his wrist behind his back - what looked like idle drumming but should Stephanie take note was obviously in prepartion for some kind of signaling should things go sideways.

Offering a level of privacy, he turned toward Stephanie to casually respond while giving the commissioner time to look over the parcel. "If you and Master Grayson are about for dinner I suppose I could tolerate an untrained pair of hands in the kitchen, if you'd like to learn," he joked, teeth flashing in a warm smile. "It's a rather large fish, and I fear a lot of it may go uneaten."

Stephanie Brown has posed:
"While we do ok with the cooking," Stephanie replies to Alfred, "It's nothing compared to what you make," she says. "Would love the help. I know Dick knows how to do it but he was occupied with a late work call," she says of the GCPD detective.

As she talks to Alfred, she does glance over to keep an eye on both what's going on with Jim Gordon and the letter, and also the bicycle courier. Wondering, no doubt, what it is that can only be communicated to the GCPD chief on paper.

Jim Gordon has posed:
Going to close the envelope over after a quick skim, the Commissioner goes to gingerly fold up the paper, put it back in the envelope, and puts it in his jacket pocket. "Well, tell your client that I read it and I'll respond as is appropriate when the time comes."

He would glance over at the bicycle rider and then chuckle at Alfred. "If I ever meet you with Barbara, don't ask me to cook. I can't even do a decent job on the grill."

Alfred Pennyworth has posed:
Turning back as Jim stowed the envelope away, Alfred unclasped his hands to wave one abuot idly. "Nonsense - if I ever have the pleasure of you and Ms. Gordon's company you wouldn't have to worry about it, Commissioner. I can't guarantee Master Wayne," he explaiend with a roll of his eyes and another laugh, "But anyone willing to actually eat a meal is welcome at the table,"

Delores Klein has posed:
At this point, the letter is moot. It could be anything. The bike rider shrugs as his phone is stuffed into a pocket. "Yeah, okay. Later, dude." He turns and hops up on a pedal, turning the handlebars as his weight carried him forward. He picked up speed and was quickly gone, leaving Gordon in possession of the letter.
