Cast of Characters: Nettie Crowe, Charlotte Gage-Radcliffe, Lydia Dietrich

Nettie Crowe has posed:
    Fledging space.

The place Nettie built up specifically so that the 'pups' of the Night Brigade would be able to stretch their metaphorical and occasionally literal wings.

Back in the day, anyway. IT's served as a sanctuary, protected from the world outside when creatures and supernatural denizens of New York City weren't sure there would be a New York City to return to, and now?

Now it's been re-enforced for the chaotic doings of younger mages and magic users to test their skills.

Today, she was showing some folks the space who were 'in the know'. Nettie has a handrolled cigarette, unlit, hanging from her mouth as the short, gray-haired witch opens the double doors to the place with one foot up, most of her hair tucked in a cap, and an ancient denim jacket that seems to be held together with patches of varying ages, genres, and political standpoints hangs from her frame.

"An' this is the Fledgin' Space." she announces, motioning up and around, the venerable and oldest leader of the Justice League Dark states.

"Not quite done with the other rooms upstairs, mind you. Slower going without someone t' help with the work, but 'ere's good place as any until the League's own space is set up." she states, turning to look with a due amount of pride in her expression to the two she was showing around.

Charlotte Gage-Radcliffe has posed:
Can you imagine what sort of terror Charlie would be with literal wings instead of just a knock off batgirl cape that vaguely resembled wings. I mean sure it can snap into a glider to slow falls and aid with leaps in a pinch when a current is applied through the material at the right amperage.

    Wayne Tech. Crazy stuff.

    Still wings would rock.

"So... this is safe for me practicing fire magic and all... because... it can get really explosive for some reason ... not sure why but .. okay probably the chaos but still.. woosh... boom."

As always when on JLD Biz she is in her tough looking jeans, stompy boots, and wonderwoman hoodie. Not her batgear. Not visibly at least.

Lydia Dietrich has posed:
"Impressive," Lydia says with a grin as she steps into the room, looking at the for with all its circles. "Certainly bigger than the circles I use at home. Then again, I've only got a two room apartment in Brooklyn."

Now that fall has come, Lydia is wearing her fall wardrobe. Despite not feeling the cold, she's wearing a brown tartan skirt, a black turtle neck sweater and some nice boots. Her unruly hair is pulled back into a ponytail which looks like it's going to burst any minute now.

"I think this is a good replacement for the Velvet Lounge," she says. "It was a good place, but it always lacked a feeling of... home. People came and went, sure, but it was always kind of sterile." She walks across the room and lays a hand on the wall. "This has character. Personality. Warmth."

Nettie Crowe has posed:
"I would reckon the 'woosh, boom' is difficulty in control," Nettie chews thoughtfully on the end of her cigarette, and she scratches up behind her ear as she gives a soft 'hum' of thought, looking to Charlie.

"Ever consider working with a more stubborn, less volatile element -- like stone? Could always use a good laugh with that. But yes -- see those tags up yon?" she motions with her chin upwards. "They help reinforce the walls agains' damage. Trick I learned from a friend o' mine in Tibet." she gives a grin to the young chaos mage, and looks up to Lydia, and she gives a shrug.

"Don't have much space to my own apartment downstairs, but I do like a homey feel to a thing. Personality and Warmth are two things sorely lackin' today in general. An' when Miss Kinney came about to ask my assistence -- well." she gives a soft snort.

"This is Home. As much as it is workspace." she stuffs her gloved hands into the pockets of her jacket.

"Buildin' is nearly as old as I am."

Charlotte Gage-Radcliffe has posed:
I mean it might be the chaos. It is something. Probably something that should be pursued at some point.

The teen looks around and peers up at the tags and reinforcements. "Shiny." she notes thoghtfully and then walks closer to one of the circles examining. "This is really nice of you Nettie." she says with genuine emotion as she walks from circle to circle studying them briefly. "I just had to be sure it was safe.... don't want to hurt your home."

She pauses half into a circle. "Wait... do people actually do stone magic .. like .. do they launch stones at people .. or shape them... or... does anyone have a book on stone magic?"

    "Have you been to Tibet?"

Lydia Dietrich has posed:
"I know what you mean," Lydia says. "My apartment is like that. My living room is my library, my workspace, and my sanctum." She lets out a chuckle, "I really need more space, but somehow I manage to squeeze everything in. If only I knew TARDIS magic, I could stuff it all into a police box."

"Sure they do," she says to Charlie. "There's magic for all four elements. Or Five, depending on where you're from. I don't have any books on it, though. Most of my skills lie with ritual magic and circles and wards and stuff like that."

Nettie Crowe has posed:
"I lived in Tibet for a while, before the business of the Dalai Lama being put to the run. I lived on the East coast of China, too. And Southern tip of Japan. A bit all over, really, for me. France and Italy, California..." Nettie gets drawn off course with the question, and she gives a small smile.

"I may be tempting fate by saying so, Charlie, but there is precious little you can do to my home that I can't reverse, or at least repair." Nettie gives a small smile, as she stretches her arms over her head.

"An' of course, someone could shape stone to their liking if they worked at it. All magic is just convincin' the universe that you're right about how things should be. Ritual an' circles, like our Lydia speaks of, are the convincin' paperwork."

NEttie flicks one arm down, and out comes a gnarled bit of twisted wood.

With the wood she produces a six-inch diameter bubble of water.

And then with a sweep of her wand, she freezes it solid, even as it floats in the air.

And then she takes the decently hefty ice ball, and gives it a toss to Charlie.

"I wouldn't mind a TARDIS myself. Wouldn't mind a Leela either. Reminds me of some of my friends, she does. GOt myself a robotic cat, close as I'll get to K-9. But if you need the help, Lydia, I'm sure there's plenty of research to be done on expandin' the internal spaces of a building to be larger than its exterior dimensions."

    Nettie gives a toothy grin.

    "Wouldn't know anythin' 'bout it."

Charlotte Gage-Radcliffe has posed:
"Huh. I've never been to Tibet. I should do that." she muses distracted "Been to Paris.. London a bunch some with Constantine and other crazy stuff... Los Angeles... Gotham... Metro.. New York.. DC... I should just pick places and start going. Like Hawaii maybe."

    Oh right. Focus.

"Good." about the precious little she can do to the home. That is reassuring. "Convincing paperwork... I've never been good with rituals." perhaps it is the epic ADHD.

Still she watches the and being drawn, the water being summoned or condensed from the air, and then flash frozen. Her hands pop out and she catches the hefty ice ball and then juggles it from hand to hand "ah... cold.. I know I should have known that.. but cold.." which pretty well distracts her from going down a rabbit whole about Tardis space.

She keeps bouncing the ball of ice from one hand to the other as she steps fully into the circle. "These have an engage keyphrase or anything or do I need to pull up my own protective shell?"

Lydia Dietrich has posed:
Lydia just rolls her eyes at Nettie's disdain of her chosen field of magic. "Don't come to /me/ then when you need your house warded from hedgehogs, then," she quips.

She purses her lips at the old crow's offer. "I'll have to take you up on that," she says. "Besides. I was always partial to Ace. Bill, too. Shame what happened to her." And when Nettie shows off, she just shakes her head.

Nettie Crowe has posed:
"Who's Ace?" Nettie asks with some measure of confusion, and she gives a sniff. "I wouldn't need my house warded from hedgehogs. They're tasty in stew, just gotta pick the prickles from between yer teeth, yeah?" she states to Lydia in a friendly fashion.

"Ritual and warding is highly important. My main focus might not be in it, but I had to know it all to get where I am today. Everyone's is a bit different. You may set up a sephirot for some larger workings, and I'll do more detailed ogham and intense mandala on my side. Just as every mage is different, so is every path in magic. Even if we walk together sometimes." Nettie states as her familiar flaps his way in with a CAW, and comes to rest on her shoulder. The Old Crowe and the Older Crow.

"You'll need to channel some magic into the circles... think of it as..." Nettie pauses a moment, and then crouches down.

"Like a four-square, where you decide what direction you want the ball to go to -- or like a coloring book. You're given the lines on the circle to work with, but you choose which crayon to use. These ones you can change details by using chalk, or salt to augment what you want to do. Say you want to try to divine what the chippy 'round the corner is going to have for its special next week. You can make the changes here..." she points with her wand "And here" she points with her wand again "And tell magic that you want it to tell you what the special would be. It'll show the most likely outcome. Divination is rarely one-hundred-percent."

Charlotte Gage-Radcliffe has posed:
Charlie peers out at the two of you, shifting the melting ball of ice as her hands very very pink. She finally crouches to set it in the middle of the circle with her. "Hedgehogs are the cute little animals people keep as pets like ferrets right... all poky.. cute little black nose... why would anyone ward against them or eat them?"

She is aghast. Savages with something against adorableness.

"Oh, one of those circles.. light it with a charge..." she peers where Nettie is pointing and nods like she is following along all right. Zee must have given her a rundown on charging a circle before. Gods willing.

She looks up "What is four-square?" puzzled at the suggestion with a ball.

While she waits for the answer she leans over and places her hand on the carved circle and closes her eyes for a moment. She breaths in and then breaths out. There is a snake of magic from the teenager, chaotic, intense, and shades of red as the circle flares to light all around her with a red dangerous glow. It isn't quite the bang of chaos her 'bounces' are when she 'teleports' but it is the kind of magic that sets a jaw on edge if one is of order.

Lydia Dietrich has posed:
"Welllllll...." Lydia says, drawing out the word. "Old Rabbi Levi Meir back in the 17th century had an unnatural fear of hedgehogs, so he drew up a circle to keep them warded off his property. He's got a good book on wards that can be used as a primer. It's where I got my start on them."

She looks back at Nettie and grins. "Ace was a companion of the Sylvester Mccoy Doctor. She was... mm. If you were into butch lesbians then you'd have a crush on her."

Nettie Crowe has posed:
"Because when you're half-starved and getting dilerious from hunger, you'll eat what it takes to survive. And if I hadn't had an argument, I would pray that never happens to anyone I know again." Nettie replies with honesty to Charlie's question. "And four-square is an old children's game played outside before you all had Nintendos."

Nettie leans back on her heels, still crouched down, the bird on her shoulder watching with interest as that snake comes out, the twisting magic of Chaos comes down. She seems relaxed, watching with the interest of a gym teacher with students climbing ropes to make sure no one falls to their certain death.

"I was far more into warrior redheads. Leela reminded me of our Addie. In a fashion, anyway... which... which was McCoy? They have numbers now, don't they?"

Charlotte Gage-Radcliffe has posed:
"Huh.. hedgehog phobias..." which doesn't explain why someone would eat them. Oh there it is delerious starvation diets. "I'm not sure they would have much meat on them... I guess it would be like eating a hamster or a rat or something ... hopefully no one has to do that..."

She studies the circle like it might explode for a moment. Which to be fair the thread was chaos tinged with something harder to pin down.

Satisfied it seems active and stable she stands back up now. "What's a nintendo?" she kids. They still exist after all. Still fun to mess with old people sometimes.

"Warrior redheads sound fun... wasn't McCoy in the old Star Wars stuff not Doctor Who?" is she still messing wiht old people. Hard to say.

She looks down at the ball of ice and starts to mutter an incantation, chaos snapping loud to the forefront and curling around her before she says "Ignes!" and waves at the ball of ice.

The result is more than it should be for the amount of juice, there is a snap of chaos and.. something... and then a flash of fire filling the warded circle and finally a good amount of steam in the air. "Ugn... " she is ... totally fine but it was clearly more juice than she was going for.

Lydia Dietrich has posed:
Lydia gets a dreamy expression on her face. "Mmm. Warrior redheads." She snaps herself out of it at Nettie's question. "Uh. Seven I think?"

She watches Charlie's circle light up with unstable red energy, and when she explodes the ice ball, she reflexively jumps back, a glittering golden shield in between her and the circle. Realizing that she's perfectly safe she coughs in embarrassment and takes a step forward, letting her shield dissolve into the twinkly starfield that always surrounds her.

"Do all of your spells like that end up exploding that much?" she asks Charlie.

Nettie Crowe has posed:
"That's why you stew them, dear. They add flavor." Nettie replies patiently. "And Nintendo, back when I was in Japan, was a playing card company. I have a set or two kickin' 'round."

Nettie watches Charlie work up to the magic, standing and walking around the outside of the circle -- clockwise -- and she brings a bic lighter to her unlit cigarette to correct her oversight.

    And then the explosion happened.

Her eyes go wide as she leans in, bringing ehr hands up a moment and slamming them down to the circle to strengthen it and keep the fire and steam contained for the moment.

She was confident that Charlie would come out of it unscathed.

And as the air clears, Nettie cuts the circle with a sweep of her hand and enters in.

"So. Control is not your strong suite, I wager?

Charlotte Gage-Radcliffe has posed:
Charlie coughs a couple of times as she steams her lungs. I mean it is probably good for her sinuses and cleansing for the pores. Some bright side. She sighs and looks around the circle.

At least there is no damage and the circle held, especially with Nettie's help.

"Uh... well.. the fire spells yes they tend to explode and get away from me." she starts to root around in a bright yellow utlity belt after tugging her hoodie up to expose it.

"I can't seem to dial in the juice it is ... always so much when I try to channel it into fire." she frowns and then shrugs. Gloves are pulled out and she steps through the circle willing it down. "I did fine with enchantment.. just.. fire.. guh..." she just sighs. "I need more practice." she notes. "Which.. it seems safe to do here.."
