A Day In November That Is Always Cold
Date of Scene: 04 November 2022
Location: Holy Ghost Church
Synopsis: Daisy tracks down Matt on the anniversary of his father's death.
Cast of Characters: Matthew Murdock, Daisy Johnson

Matthew Murdock has posed:
Matt had been kind of quiet this morning when he'd gotten up. A peck to Daisy's temple. Brief answers to any questions of hers. Though she had her own things to do and it might not have really stood out in the bustle of getting ready to head to the Triskelion.

Often they talk at some point during the day, even if just a text. Matt hadn't replied to anything though, nor answered his phone today. Finally, Daisy had called over to Nelson and Murdock to see if maybe Matt was stuck in court or somewhere else he couldn't respond.

"Hey Daisy," Foggy had said when he answered the phone and fielded her question about Matt. "No, he's not in court. Actually moved the hearing he had to another day. It's November 4th," he says, as if that is somehow meaningful. "He's probably over at Holy Ghost Church, would be my guess. Listen I have to go, my 4:30 meeting just showed up, and this guy does NOT look like he's happy to settle today. Hope you find him."

Daisy Johnson has posed:
It wasn't the usual MO. And if anything Daisy and Matt had that comfortable habits they had grown into, like talking during the day even if only by text. So when there was nothing? It could mean something. It could mean nothing. But it also meant Daisy had to -know- what was going on.

"So she takes her time to actually call the office, "Wait, what does--" but she never finishes her question about that particular day because Foggy is busy. Darn lawyers!

It's perhaps a good thing that she gets off work not too long after (because no world crisis today, yay!) so she makes her way over to that church.

When she shows up she is very different from the SHIELD Agent, dressed in a pair of jeans, sweater. A jacket to fend off the cold and even a beanie hat on her head there she goes on approaching the church. She nears the door that leads to the praying area and begins looking around.

Matthew Murdock has posed:
There are not many people inside. An elderly woman is up at the prayer bench, on her knees, hands clasped before her as she prays. A nun is well off to the far right, talking to one of the altar boys while she holds a broom and a dustpan. From the disapproving expression he might not have done a very good job with some chore.

The priest, Father Lantom, is standing off to one side of the pews, gazing over at the only person seated. That person is Matt Murdock. He's wearing his suit that he normally wears to the office, and is just sitting by himself, over at the pews nearest to the bank of candles that people light in remembrance, or in asking as they make prayers.

Father Lantom is watching Matt quietly from across the church. He glances up at Daisy's arrival though. They have met at least a few times, enough he knows Daisy by sight, and knows of her and Matt's relationship. He gives her a somber smile, but seems heartened to see her there. Instead of approaching, he goes over to the nun and the altar boy, talking to them quietly and taking the conversation into a back room.

Daisy Johnson has posed:
For someone that grew up on an orphanage Daisy has never been the best where it comes to follow that etiquette of walking inside a church. Namely the 'no hats' on. Including beanies! So it's only when she spots Father Lantom that she reaches up to take her hat off. Too many times having those nuns giving her disapproving looks. At least the Father didn't look her way. But the next moment she spots Matt..

She pauses by the entrance for a second, a quiet smile given the good priest's way when he spots her. That somber smile is telling though. Yes, this is a special day for Matt, but not the good kind of days. Did they even had good days when they were young? Not many, besides the time they were together in which she looks back at fondly.

She takes in a breath and then she is walking across to where Matt is sitting at, that familiar step to her that will make it easy for him to identify who's approaching. She doesn't say anything but takes a seat next to him.

Matthew Murdock has posed:
Matt Murdock doesn't react to Daisy's approach until she's reached him where he sits near the end of the pew. There's enough room there on the end for her to fit. Once she's seated though, Matt reaches over to take her hand in his his. Squeezing hold of it tightly.

He doesn't say anything yet. Not for a good minute or two. Just holds her hand. "Guessing you talked to Foggy? Seems more likely than tracked my phone," he says. The latter, a joke about using SHIELD capabilities, would usually be delivered with a bit of levity in his voice. Though it was meant in that fashion, the levity is lacking from his voice though.

Matt's head tilts down, not looking down like others might, but it tends to mean the same kind of reaction it does for the sighted. Matt swallows and then gives Daisy's hand another soft squeeze.

Daisy Johnson has posed:
"I caught Foggy between meetings." Daisy replies back at Matt in a soft tone, smiling faintly at the play about tracking his phone but not getting at it with some witty retort that would be her usual. She knows this isn't a moment for that kind of stuff. "He told me where to look." her fingers lace easily with Matt's, the softer skin to Matt's more rough one. She squeezes back.

Eyes drift to the candles that serve as rememberance. Yes, she imagines what it is for.

"You don't have to spend this day alone anymore." she finally speaks up, now her being the one giving Matt the hand squeeze and rest her arm to his, close. Offering her his warmth. And her love.

Matthew Murdock has posed:
Though Matt doesn't say anything yet in response, Daisy knows him well enough to know that Matt chokes up with emotion a little inside. His hand tightens on hers yet again, just letting that simple touch convey his emotions back to her.

"I've never really liked others having to see me like this," he tells her quietly as his head hangs down. His words trail off for a moment and he clears his throat, tongue touching his lips. "You know my memory for things... sounds, smells, became pretty strong after the accident," he tells her. "I can still hear every note of emotion in the announcer's voice as I listened to Dad's fight on the radio. Remember cheering for him and..." he says, before his words trail off as he's overcome in a wave of strong grief.

Daisy Johnson has posed:
Daisy has gone back to her silence for the moment being, just watching Matt, close enough that she can feel that choking up. The way he bows his head and tries to keep that stoic demeanor. She only smiles gently at it, squeezes his hand again. Her other arm goes over her front and curls over Matt's. Not too overly affectionate. They are in a church after all. But letting him feel her there.

"Matt..." Her tone quiet. Gentle. Serving as a support platform for him.

"I want to see every side of yours. Not only the good ones, or the ones that make you happy, but all of you." a pause, words coming out quietly. "Because I love the whole of you, not just one side.."

As Matt then seems overcome with grief she squeezes his arm. "Your memory of him keeps his spirit going.." she says gently.

Matthew Murdock has posed:
Matt Murdock turns towards Daisy, letting go of her hand so he can wrap his arms around her. She can feel his body shake with the sobs he keeps from making any sound. No outwards sign but a tear that finally trickles down his cheek from beneath his glasses, a hand quickly wiping at it.

He sinks his head forward, forehead against her as he hugs her tightly. After about a minute he finally sits up straighter, moving his hand back down to hers as he quietly clears his throat of the aftermath of the burst of emotion.

"He's one of the biggest reasons I do it," he tells Daisy very quietly. "He... I just wish you could have known him," he says softly. "I know he'd be very happy, to see that I have someone like you in my life."

Daisy Johnson has posed:
As Matt turns to her and draws close he will find Daisy accepting all of him against her, forehead to forehead. Hand up to his cheek and brushing that tear away. Letting all those emotions come to rest on her serene shores, being there for him. For the good and the bad. "Shhhhh.." she tells him in a gentle manner, soothing. She can certainly feel those emotions there. Powerful memories.

"I know.." About the reasons that Matt does it. It's when Matt says those last words that her smile blooms, "But Matt. I already know him." she squeezes his hand. "Through you." she leans over to rest her head against his shoulder.

She remains silent for a few moments longer and then adds. "Do you want to tell me some stories of him?" she offers.

Matthew Murdock has posed:
Matt Murdock draws a deep breath, and then nods to Daisy. "Let's... let's go ahead and go home first," he tells her. His hand squeezes hers and he rises slowly.

Nearby is the bank of candles, many of them lit, but several that are not lit for those who wish to do so while making a prayer. "Daisy," Matt asks softly. "Would you like to light one of these with me?" he asks. If she's amenable, he walks with her over to the candle bank.

There are long punks that can be used, lighting one from another flame to use. Matt lowers his head. "Dad, I love you. I know you always did the best you could for me. And I hope I'm making you proud. Please keep watching over me, and watch over Daisy too. I love her, and I just wish you were here to be able to see what we have together," he whispers.

Daisy Johnson has posed:
"Of course." Daisy replies quietly, rising up to her feet alongside Matt, gentle vibrations running past her and she letting them flow to her lover, remaining close to him.

The question about whether she wants to light a candle is replied by her stepping forward, picking up one of the candles in-between her hands. A look to Matt while he speaks those words. She bows her head as well, respectfully. As he gets to the end of his small prayer she reaches for his hand to rest atop hers that's holding the candle and then she leads it to the flame. Setting the flame on she places it back.

"I wish I could had met you, Sir." she whispers, "I will keep your son safe."

Matthew Murdock has posed:
Matt slides his arm around Daisy's waist, pressing himself close to her side. They turn and walk slowly towards the church's door. Father Landom returns to the doorway which he'd left through, gazing across the church towards them as they leave. Should Daisy look up and meet his eye, she sees the Catholic priest's look of approval given in her direction.

The walk back home is a quiet one, if short. The apartment just a block or two away from. Matt stays silent as they go up to the apartment and inside the door, locking it behind them once inside.

Daisy Johnson has posed:
Moving hand with hand with Matt Daisy offers a gentle smile at Landom but doesn't speak up. She knows the Priest must have been here looking over Matt every November 4th of previous years that he came here for it. So the smile is to thank him for those years.

Daisy doesn't really talk much on the way home, just walking comfortably with her man, keeping close to him, letting him know that she is there. Present. Shoulders brushing together from time to time.

Boxer comes over to offer it's greeting 'meow' when they get home but soon enough disappears under the couch again.
