Training training training!
Date of Scene: 07 November 2022
Location: Gun Range: Triskelion
Synopsis: No description
Cast of Characters: Wendell Vaughn, James Barnes

Wendell Vaughn has posed:
When on base, Wendell needs not disguise the Quantum Bands on his wrist, and thus is not maintaining the optical illusion that they are not there. He can't take them off, even if he wants to. But today, he is dressed in a jumpsuit, a SHIELD issue thing as he works on the firing range.

Some higherup thought that even though it's only been like 10 weeks since he graduated, his whole... upgrade via wristbands meant that he needed to requalify in everything. So he has a handgun in hand, aiming downrange as he concentrates. Sure, he's a decent shot. Better than average even among agents. But he's no Hawkeye. When it boils down to it, everything about him is normal unaugmented human.... except for the presence of the Quantum Bands on his wrists.

*pop* *pop* comes the sound of his pistol as he stands in a classic two handed firing stance....

James Barnes has posed:
James Barnes isn't often found in the Triskelion. He's either off on missions or spending time with Steve Rogers, Director Carter, or a certain scarlet-clad Nexus of Realities. However, being a SHIELD agent and life-long friend of the director doesn't mean it gets you out of anything, and he's here to requalify, too. Nobody thinks he _needs_ it; but everyone would feel better if he just did it, for the bureaucracy of it all.

He walks in, passing behind Wendell and glancing over at the other man's shooting. Here, he doesn't hide his metal arm. Everyone knows James Barnes was the Winter Soldier. At the station one down from Wendell's, he starts to set up for his own qualification, including the little camera that goes on the table, pointed at the target.

SHIELD is very technologically advanced.

Wendell Vaughn has posed:
Right. Tech. The movement of James into the next station gets Wendell's attention. He finishes his magazine, and then engages the safety before setting the weapon down. His blue eyes flicker over towards the next station, and the first thing he sees is that metal arm. I mean come on. Who wouldn't see that first?

He steps back from his own station and just observes for the moment. His bands informing him through the neural link of the level of energy that is powering that arm. His brows raise at that information. Quite a lot of power indeed. But he doesn't speak up until James is finished with his current shoot. "Well, one thing is for sure. You're a better shot than I am. Yep." he says.

James Barnes has posed:
Bucky's shooting is pretty perfect. One might expect Hawkeye to have better aim, but one might also remember that Hawkeye is very much a normal person, whereas Bucky is enhanced. In short, by comparison, Bucky is cheating. But in the world of espionage and superheroics, 'cheating' is just the norm.

One thing is clear: Bucky's grip is strong; his gun barely makes his hands move with the recoil

When he's done, he sets the gun down and glances over at Wendell. He looks at Wendell's target, then back at the man with the Quantum Bands. "I may have been doing it for longer than you, by a bit," he says, amused.

Wendell Vaughn has posed:
"Well yeah." says Wendell as eh lifts a hand to rub the back of his neck. "I'm just kind of surprised that they are making me requalify so soon. I mean I literally just qualified for graduation in September."

He shrugs and then places both hands in front of him. "It's not like these fancy bracelets here.." and he is referring to the bracers that cover pretty much half of each forearm, from wrist up to forearm. Golden bordered, black base material, and oversized golden gems set in each. ".. make me any more than I am physically. I mean sure, they're useful. I don't really -need- a gun anymore. Which is good, because I am not a big fan of them anyway."

He shrugs, "All these do is give me millions of alternate options."

James Barnes has posed:
"Uh huh." Bucky inspects the bands from his place at his station. "SHIELD didn't give you those, though, and they present a change in your interpersonal status quo with the organization. SHIELD Manual Section 4, Article 12, fourth bullet point: 'Any significant physical, psychological, emotional, social or metaphysical change to an agent's interpersonal status quo is grounds for possible requalification'."

He pulls his knife out from his leg strap and then throws it at his target -- many, many yards away -- with the same accuracy as his pistol earlier.

"Or maybe whoever did it is just jealous."

Wendell Vaughn has posed:
"You know, I wouldn't be surprised. I bet some people are just upset that they won't come off. It's not like they can just requisition them and reassign them to an agent of their choice." says Wendell with a shrug as his eyes flicker to watch the knife be thrown so perfectly.

He whistles softly, "Okay. Now -I- am officially jealous." he adds. But then he offers a hand, "Wendell Vaughn, aka Quasar. I mean if you ask Eon, the cosmic entity who apparently mentors anyone wearing these things."

James Barnes has posed:
"It's also a bit of a security breach," Bucky points out, crossing his arms and leaning back against the station, sitting on the edge. "It can't be easy for a bunch of people obsessed with security to suddenly have one of their own newbies compromised and given cosmic powers."

Wendell Vaughn has posed:
"You say Compromised. I call it chosen. I am still a part of SHIELD. I am still a citizen of the United States, and a soldier. I just... have a bit of a broader calling now. Apparently, once I get -fully- trained in using these things..." he says, waving one arm to accentuate the wrist. The band glows a bit and a holographic image of the Earth shows in there, zooming out until it's a dot in the solar system. A full holo of the system for that matter, hovering over the band. "Apparently... Eon tells me that the bearer of the bands becomes the Protector of the Universe." A pause...

"I just want to protect people locally, but I am told that I can Quantum Jump thousands of light years, instantly, once I figure out how to do it." He shrugs, "It is a bit... overwhelming for a local boy from Wisconsin."
