Synopsis: No description
Cast of Characters: Jennifer Walters, Mercy Thompson

Jennifer Walters has posed:
Jennifer's Manhattan law office is something of a small affair. A reception area, Jen's office, a couple of extra offices for various aides, and a small common room containing a table for communal lunches, a fridge and a well used coffee maker.

She's currently in her office, working a little overtime before the big game, dressed in a charcoal grey pantsuit with a white blouse underneath the jacket. The rest of the office is empty, but Jen has left the door to the suite open just in case somebody needs to stop on by for help. On the receptionists desk there's one of those bells with a note asking people to ring it if they need help.

Mercy Thompson has posed:
Jen maybe wouldn't have caught the name anyway if there was an appointment. After all Mercedes Thompson is not the sort of name Mercy usually tosses around, she hardly even says Mercy Thompson together. Mercy never has been a big one for her full name and all those details. She steps in hoping she has the right office and then will see about giving it a soft single tap. Not calling out because she doesn't want to be rude or insistent. She still can't believe she is even IN this situation.

Jennifer Walters has posed:
Jen seems genuinely surprised that somebody actually dinged the bell. She wasn't expecting anybody today, but she always welcomes walk-ins regardless of the day.

She stands, and smooths out her pants before coming out of her office to see who it is. "Mercy!" she says, her expression lightening. "It's been a while. What brings you by?"

Mercy Thompson has posed:
"Trouble sadly. Though I see you at the embassy sometimes we're always ships in the night." Mercy comes over to offer the woman a friendly shake in greeting. "I think I need your help." Looking embarrassed by everything of her situation. "Do I need to sign something to get lawyer gag protection?"

Jennifer Walters has posed:
Jennifer returns the shake of the hand, and turns serious as Mercy starts talking business. "Come on in," she says, and leads the other woman to her office. "If I take you on as a client, confidentiality is part of the contract we sign. Please. Have a seat."

She sits down in her own chair behind a modest desk that has a few papers scattered about as well as her laptop resting on it. Absently she starts cleaning up as she talks, "However, you might need to reveal some things to explain the nature of the case. These aren't necessarily covered under client/attorney privilege, so if I end up testifying in court I'd have to talk about those things."

"So," she concludes, "if you can tell me what's going on as vaguely as possible, I'll try to determine if I'm right for you."

Mercy Thompson has posed:
Mercy settles into a seat and will try to not bother if her back is to the door. "That's the part I'm trying to avoid. Hell I'll take a fine and a minor charge if it avoids court and testimonies if possible." She tries to figure how best to go on and says, "I got arrested and charged with something for being caught in public with less then my usual clothing. As if February is the time nudists go streaking or something."
Mercy takes a slow even breath and rubs at the back of her neck as she isn't sure how to say this. "How do you avoid any charges for wardrobe malfunctions you may have had earlier."

Jennifer Walters has posed:
Jennifer just nods as Mercy explains. "I'm very familiar the issue," she says with a chuckle. "I've had many wardrobe malfunctions of my own, and you'd be surprised at how many clients I get for just this sort of thing. She opens up one of her drawers to pull out some paperwork. "Here's the standard contract. I work on a sliding scale so we can discuss how much you can afford in a bit." She slides the papers over to Mercy and says, "I'll give you some time to look it over and sign. Would you like any coffee? I don't have any ready but I can make a fresh pot, if you like."

Mercy Thompson has posed:
Mercy will take the paper and start to read over it some as they talk. "Well I got some money set aside and I hope it won't be too much of a hassle really. But like me you deserve the fee for the work you do even before anything in a court room." She shakes her head at the offer. "No thanks. I never drink that stuff honestly. I am weird like that. I should be able to read fairly quickly. Besides I doubt you'd try to screw me over."

Jennifer Walters has posed:
"I've got tea, too," Jennifer offers. "I don't really have much of a selection, though." She leans back in her chair and waits patiently for Mercy to read and sign the contract. Once she does so she laces her fingers together and leans on her desk. "So. Now that that's done can you give me the details?"

Mercy Thompson has posed:
She will go through it but it doesn't take Mercy too long. "Tea is fine though, thank you. Just don't bother yourself if it is just for me however." She pauses, "Does caffeine even affect you, Attorney Walters?" Being formal as a way to show her signing her full name onto the document and then sliding it to the other side of the desk. "So. You know about my gift from my father right?"

Jennifer Walters has posed:
"Alright, then," Jennifer says about the tea, and takes the forms once filled and starts filing them in a manila envelope. "Caffeine only affects me when I'm plain Jane Jennifer Walters," she says. "Like this I can't even get drunk unless it's Themysciran wine of Asguardian mead. But it has to be the good stuff."

"If I recall correctly, you're a were-coyote, yes?" Jennifer asks with a quirk of an eyebrow. "I can see how that sometimes leads to indecent exposure."

Mercy Thompson has posed:
"I'm a tetotaller so can't speak on the whole 'drunk thing' as much." Though when they get to business her nose wrinkles. "No," voice more firmer then she meant to reject the term. "I mean." She tries again, "please don't call me that. I'm not a were-anything. That's different. I just always called myself a Walker for the most part. It's a 'gift' from y father I'm sure. Not that we can ask him for much.." She waves off the shifting thing. "I control when and how I shift. What I can't control is the other gift you do not know about." She pauses, "This is protected and stays between us right? Because this part I try to keep under wraps. I don't like talking about my secrets."

Jennifer Walters has posed:
"My mistake," Jennifer says apologetically. "This is covered under client/attorney privilege, yes. Nothing here leaves this room."

Mercy Thompson has posed:
"I see ghosts," says Mercy. "I have all my life. It wasn't until I was way too old and like in collage before I realized nobody else sees them most times. They look as real and alive as you do right now. But if I pay attention to them, they seem to get stronger. Sometimes that's not good." She motions with her hands as she says, "The other day I was out and saw a ghost that was being a real jerk. Nasty too some young woman. Guessing some kind of bad relationship and this guy needed to let go. He got mad at me trying to suggest he move on and turned his anger on me. Long story short to ditch the ghost I had to shift. My stuff was somewhere safe, but I couldn't go back without riling the ghost up more. I found an old cell in the park. I shifted to try and call a friend to help pick me up. Shocked the phone was unlocked really. Knowing my luck it's a drug runner's phone. Anyway as I was calling a friend what happens but a bro-dude calls out, ~Damn look at the hot girl~ as I missed from an elevated walk you could see right down on me. There were people. And not far was a cop. I couldn't change with all the attention so I got arrested for nudity in public."

Jennifer Walters has posed:
"Ghosts, hunh," Jennifer says thoughtfully. "I could see how that'd be a problem." She listens as Mercy explains her problem, nodding here and there. "Well, the good news is that I doubt this will ever go to trial. The prosecution has to prove willful intent, and the fact that you were obviously trying to hide will make that very difficult to prove. They don't have a case."

"What'll probably happen is that I'll give them a call, we'll have a little chat, and they'll drop any charges because letting this go to court will just be a waste of everybody's time," Jennifer explains. "If it //does// go to court, you might have to explain that you're a walker and were trying to recover your clothing. We can bring your friend in for testimony, and... honestly... open and shut case."
