Godfellas: Stakeout
Date of Scene: 05 April 2023
Location: Manhattan
Synopsis: Surveillance is setup for Ares when he is working. Alexander and Daisy get the unenviable assignment.
Cast of Characters: Alexander Aaron, Daisy Johnson, Ares

Alexander Aaron has posed:
In this day and age surveillance kicks are a lot easier than they've been in the past. Simply from the advance of technology.
Used to be that the only thing people would have while surveilling a location would be perhaps a pair of binoculars. Maybe they'd hire a local to give them the scuttlebutt or to keep an eye on the area. But otherwise they'd have to sit for long periods of time hidden out of sight and watch from afar hoping that something might happen.
Today they have a bevy of technological advantages. Remote cameras set up at strategic locations. Vectored microphones to record conversations. Facial recognition and data retrieval to map out the social topography of the neighborhood they're watching. Though there's one thign that they couldn't do anything about. And it was the waiting. That damnable waiting and hoping something might happen.
And it really sucks when nothing is happening.
"There goes that guy with the Corgi again." Alex's voice is quiet and at ease as it often is, but there is a hint of weariness. Not fatigue, more mental than anything since he does not tire. Yet they had been at this for most of the day and hadn't come up with anything.
As the little orange and white dog waddled down the street with his elderly owner, Alex murmured, "If the pup has to pee this often he really should take him to the vet."
The two SHIELD agents had found a spot overlooking the work site that Ares was handling today. One of the handful of days a month that the man was at the construction site and working with the others there. A possible place for people to strike, or perhaps approach him for another threat or negotiation. Agent Aaron and Agent Johnson were both settled on a third story rooftop NW of the site watching their data feeds and keeping the old MK1 eyeball on the goings on below them.

Daisy Johnson has posed:
Daisy knew all about stakeouts. She had been taken in due to her hacking talents! And what was the best thing to put a hacker in? Stakeouts ..., looking over tech. Urgh. She hated it. But she had found way to get the time rolling. It was called mobile games. She had a mad score at Tetris.

"Uh-uh, right..." thumb thumb on the screen. So close to her record. A look up at the corgi, "You realize nothing may happen today. Or the day after, or the next..." she tells the weary Alex. "I know it's hard sometimes but ...! That's the life of an agent sometimes. It took me a while to learn that part.." it's the patience that gets at her.

"You know, I love corgis, or doggos but we just got no time to have one with the lives we have..." she sighs wistfully. "Boxer is already a handful too."

Ares has posed:
Through the work day, there had been nothing really eventful. There was that one moment around lunch when some of the guys recreated the old photo image as John took the picture for them with one of their phones. But that was about it. Just working and building, toting things here and there, the crane lifting heavier items though John was showing off a bit of his strength as well when he would tote items that most men could not. It wasn't like super strength was unheard of anymore with all the metahumans, aliens, and mutants running around. No one questioned, no one cared. He was a hard worker and well liked and that was that.

A few times he would disappear from their lenses as he worked, cut off from their line-of-sight by equipment or supplies. Usually he reappeared within ten minutes. This was one of those intervals where there was no sign of the giant of a man.

The door to the rooftop they were on didn't even creak. Good maintenance that kept it oiled so it was silent as it swung open, allowing him to step onto the roof occupied by the two SHIELD agents. He walked across the rooftop, surprisingly quiet.

Then his voice boomed out. "You two are still here? It cannot be that interesting to watch me work."

Alexander Aaron has posed:
As for Alexander, he had no idea what approached them. He just kept on with that initial conversation.
"You know, I've been on other stakeouts, and normally I'm just fine. But maybe this bugs me more just because it's got to do with my daaaaa..."
And that's when John Aaron makes himself known, apparently having slipped their surveillance and wandered over to their vantage point. His appearance there in their 'secure' nest from which they've watched the neighborhood for most of the day does manage to take him partially by surprise as his eyes widen at first with that look not having expected this...
    Then replaced with irritation. "Dad?!"
He spreads his hands, "What are you doing? We can't stake you out if you're over here. This defeats the whole point." He has that tone that one hears from irate bratty teenagers somehow embarrassed of their parental units. Which he seems to realize after a moment as he exhales, looks down, then looks back up. Though now he's smiling, shaking his head as if trying not to laugh. "Just... ah man. We didn't find anything out. It was... Not a success. Did you notice anything?"

Daisy Johnson has posed:
The booming voice has Daisy jump on her seat briefly, the device she was holding clattering to the ground and ...., there goes her record. She lets out a dramatic sigh and reaches down to pick up the tablet once more before setting it aside.

"We are keeping an eye out to check for suspicious movements about, Sir." she explains in a calm manner, such a contrast to bratty teenager Alex. A shake of her head back at Alex.

"We have only been at it a day. But this is also a very public place to try anything so we think you are safe." and then she realizes they are talking about Ares.

"That the workplace is safe, that is."

Ares has posed:
"Nothing was happening over there. Thus, I chose to see if something was happening over here." Perfectly logical from the mind of Ares. The fact he might have caused Alexander any form of embarassment? Not acknowledged in the least. Likely, he doesn't actually care if he embarasses the boy. For that is how he still thinks of his son: Just a boy still needing to learn about the world and be protected in some ways. Though he did try to let the boy learn on his own, make his mistakes. If one didn't do that with their children, they might as well wrap them in bubble-wrap and put them in a padded room. They never would be able to truly live.

Not that Ares was father-of-the-year material.

"It is unlikely the attack will happen there. More likely on my trip to and from my home. Or when I am home alone." A shake of the head as though that was truly be a stupid idea. If one knew the firepower and weapons he had in that house out in Jersey, they'd understand the head shake.

His attention shifted to Daisy. "So you will maintain this position for a few days to be certain?" Since that is what they did on cop shows. "I will be certain to have lunch sent up to you each day." Because he wants them comfortable in their futile job.

Alexander Aaron has posed:
It might be that very reason why Alexander seems to only lose his cool when around his father. It brings back all those old habits of being the 'boy'. He takes a deep breath, listening to the tall man and nodding. "Perhaps. Perhaps not. We don't know the exigencies that they might be facing for whatever reason. If they come under a time pressure they might strike at where they know they can find you between certain hours." Yet... he pauses and looks toward Daisy, likely accepting what is said and having a meeting of the minds about the situatoin that Ares... might well be right.
He shifts a little, "We can keep the cameras in place and monitor them remotely."
Then he looks to Daisy. "What do you think we should do?"

Daisy Johnson has posed:
The dynamic between father and son doesn't go unnoticed by Daisy. Not that she has a lot of experience with it since she never really had a father but it's not like she's blind. So she only smiles faintly for a bit, listening in, pretending like she's working on her tablet to check something on a camera. Nope, the corgi is still out there. And Alex might be right, could use a trip to the vet.

It's only when Alex asks her directly about what they should do that she looks up, pressing her lips together. "We should do another day just to be sure. Though it's a very remote possibility that they'd try something here. The cameras should work for it, and I can get a DWARF to check things from the air too."

Yes, a DWARF. FitzSimmons pride and joy. But will Ares know what a DWARF is?

Ares has posed:
Of course Ares knows what a Dwarf is! He's been around for centuries!

"That is a good idea. A dwarf will be able to hide more effectively as they are very small." Could still be what she was talking about maybe.

But then that furrowing of the brow as Ares looks over at the building under construction that they'd had under observation all day. "Though, I did not know they had the power of flight now. Or will they perhaps be garbed as your Man of Iron? In a suit that allows for propulsion through the air? Being that they are very small..." And he held his hand down, palm flat toward the rooftop. Holding it about thigh height then scooting it down to around his knee before standing again.

Yeah, not exactly the DWARF they were referring to.

Alexander Aaron has posed:
Alexander bows to her greater experience, nodding again as he looks back toward Ares. "So yeah, we'll stay another day, then automate. I'm thinking." Another small glance at Daisy to make sure they're on the same wavelength before he looks back at the taller man.
At that point however his brow furrows as he tries to follow along with the older man's reasoning. A pause as he blinks a few times. "Not a Dwarf. But like... a drone. I think is what she means." His lip twists a little, but he doesn't laugh. To his credit he does not laugh. Instead he takes a deep breath, holds it, then exhales it slowly.
"So alright, you should head home straight from here. No lingering. And under no circumstances go to that bar where you picked a fight with that one guy."

Daisy Johnson has posed:
"Exactly." This about that first part about the DWARF. Because really, they are really small and .... Oh, not that kinda dwarf! And to her credit Daisy doesn't laugh either. Because she values her life and laughing at a misinterpretation of what kind of DWARF she was talking about could be hazardous to her health. So all she manages is a smile. Jaw tight because she has to stifle the laugh from coming out. And damn right it's hard!

"What Alex said..." She finally speaks up when she is sure she won't laugh. "A drone, made by some of our expert minds back at shield. We can set it to patrol around here too. And that should be enough. And of course.." a beat. "If you do see anything please call Alex. It's important that we find out who is behind this, and whatever thugs they may send won't be the ones that are responsible for it all."

Got to dig for those answers. She makes no comment about Alexander's demand that Ares doesn't go to that bar. So unreasonable.

Ares has posed:
"Not a dwarf?" Now Ares just sounded disappointed which was confirmed when he added. "Dwarf of Iron would have been amusing. A shame."

He somehow didn't catch on that the two of them both were fighting laughter though his attention did snap to his son at the last.

"Now you are being unreasonable." The words said with a hint of a growl to his tone. "If I wish to have a beer after work with my fellow workers, I shall." Which sounded almost...scripted? It was what would be expected of someone, to go have a drink with friends after work sometimes. Thus, that was the role he played. Which honestly worked out because he did like a good drink. Or ten. It wasn't like Midgardian alcohol had an effect on him.

Then he realized that he had already turned down his fellow workers since he had intended to come over here before heading home. A sniff of disdain. "I shall go home. Because I choose to do so." A terse nod of his head and a look to each of them in turn to see if they dared disagree with him that it was his idea.

Alexander Aaron has posed:
"Dad..." Alex says, and curiously enough his tone now was more... parental than his father's. "You can have beers with your coworkers after we get all of this settled. You know I'm right in this. We need to limit your exposure." Which has him just looking at the older man even as Alexander pushes himself fully to his feet and he's... still a good bit shorter than his father.
"That's fine, go home because you have chosen to do so. It makes sense that you'd come to a similar conclusion since you are a master of tactics." He says that straight, with no inflection or hint of insincerity. He apparently knows... to a degree... how to handle his father.
"Call me when you get there, and I'll let you know if we find anything when we go over the recordings. Alright?" He shoots a glance toward Daisy as if to make sure she's in agreement, then he looks back to John.

Daisy Johnson has posed:
No complaint out of Daisy, the agent nodding sharply in return to what Alex says. "We will let you know how things went.." she assures the DAD. Even if she is sorta curious on what lunch will be for tomorrow. But one thing at a time.

She gets up to her feet as well, hands brushing over the front of her jeans, "Time for us to start packing up too.. Have a good night, Mr. Aaron."

She will wait until Ares is on his way to whisper Alex's way. "He sure is a handful, isn't he?"

Ares has posed:
"Fine." Since his son wants him to call, he will do so. It's as simple as that. As long as he doesn't get distracted. Or find something better to do.

Ares considered his son a moment. There was a second that he sort of teetered there then he just turned and walked back toward the door. "Until the morrow, Agent Johnson. Keep my son out of trouble."

And he disappeared from view.

Alexander Aaron has posed:
As Ares departs Alex just stands there making sure he heads off and gets where he's going. He takes a deep breath and then says without blinking, with his eyes still rather wide. "Yes..."
He says just that at first. Yes he is a handful.
Then he looks sidelong toward Daisy and says, "I'm going to be eighty and I will still be having to explain to him how to use his IRobot and set the altimeter on his flying car." He then looks again off in the direction of the older man, then smiles a little. "Bah."
Then he looks around their surveillance nest and he says, "C'mon, let's get this place picked up and set for tomorrow."
