Tea Lady Grey. Hot.
Date of Scene: 07 May 2023
Location: Lobby - GIRL Headquarters
Synopsis: Susan Richards, the worlds momliest mom, stops round GIRL to talk about science and hide from people who'll want her to do things. Viv makes tea and talks about paint and super intelligent shades of blue. Just a typical day in the life at GIRL!
Cast of Characters: Vivian Vision, Susan Richards

Vivian Vision has posed:
One of the perks of being a Synthezoid is when visitors stop by you can come out to the Lobby to meet them without stopping your work. It's excellent for multi-tasking and time efficiency. And thus exactly the sort of thing Vivian Vision likes. That and a good cup of tea. Not to drink but for the aromatic vapours.

There's also something a little therapeutic about the tea making process. You heat water to a specific temperature. Use just the right amount of tea and water. Leave enough time for the flavours to develop. Then serve it when it's juuuuuust right. A process where care and attention are important.

Most of the people who do visit aren't able to tell it from the vending machine tea.

Most.

"Good day Mrs Richards," she greets. Giving a little wave and motioning for Sue to join her. "I trust you are well? I don't believe we were expecting you. Are you here for Val?"

Susan Richards has posed:
Sue's not entirely sure /why/ she's dropping by GIRL HQ on a Sunday. Oh, she knows parts. It's Sunday, there's nothing going on at the Baxter building, she's feeling a touch stir crazy and needs to get out. But Susan Richards has a lot of options for getting out. The Hellfire Club has a rainbow of lounges, restaurants, and bars. She has open invitations to drop by what feels like half a dozen supergroup headquarters to chat and coordinate things.

But GIRL? Well, GIRL inspires her. She supposes they're another super group, but really, they /feel/ like more. Young women exploring their potential, fulfilling their ambitions. Creating the future for themselves and the world.

Also, they're her daughter's friends and they're simply adorable. And they usually have pastries or cookies and tea. And that tea? Oh, it's amazing.

Her lips spread in a warm, genuine smile as she lifts her hand in a small wave to Vivian, Sue decked out in dark slacks and a turtleneck sweater, just to shield herself from the last lingering chills in the air as she chimes out, "Vivian! Dear! Darling! No no, I was just... I've been doing an awful lot of work, and my office is practically burnt into my vision now. So I thought I'd get out. Stretch my legs." She grins impishly and sighs, "And GIRL seemed like the least likely place to either draw a crowd /or/ get into trouble. I could have visited the Avengers, but then Janet might be around and then suddenly I'd be whisked off in a whirlwind of..."

She trails off for a moment and gestures, "Janetness, yes?" Her eyebrows perk and she grins, "And how are you? Up to anything interesting today? Practicing your art?"

Vivian Vision has posed:
Vivian Vision blinks a few times. GIRL is the least likely place to get into trouble? Maybe Val and Nadia are both out for the day....

Thankfully if the statement about trouble has stunned her it passes too quickly for Human eyes to register. "Janet does tend to have that effect on people," she agrees. "Although she sometimes storms through here too." Is her use of storms clever wordplay based on Sue's maiden name? Or just an accurate description of Janet van Dyne visiting anywhere. You decide!

She adds a tiny squeeze of lemon to her own tea. Just to enhance the scent a little. Then with a smile adds "I'm doing well. I have been trying to come up with a set of paints which lets me create things in the colour range I can see. I've got a lab mixing experimental samples as we speak. At first I thought it might be quite a niche product. But the more I think about it there are plenty of aliens and metahumans who see the world differently to Humans. Not to mention Atlanteans and Amazons. All of which might find it nice to buy paints they can appreciate fully." She frowns. "Well I guess statistically they'd still be niche markets. So perhaps I'll just give sets out as presents to friends who can make use of them."

Susan Richards has posed:
Susan is definitely not saying it's the least likely place for her to get in trouble because it is where she is at her Momliest. Definitely.

Because she's at her Momliest at home. GIRL is just where she can be very Mom, but also none of the girls squabble like Ben and Johnny. It's much easier Moming.

And, as she thought, the tea is impeccable. Her hands cup the mug, lifting it to her lips for a small inhalation of scent and then a slow, savouring sip of heated tea, exhaling in a slow, steady gust. Her eyebrows perk slightly and she smiles crookedly, "Oh! That definitely sounds interesting. You'll have to let me see when you have some working samples. I'm curious what they'll look like to me." She clicks her tongue and murmurs, "You know, my power bends the wavelength of light, I wonder if I could... shift the light passing over such paints to be visible to normal people. Sort of like... /actual/ invisible paint? That's..." She grins impishly, "I mean, I'm not even an artist and I'm already inspired by the thought, Vivian!"

Vivian Vision has posed:
Vivian Vision hmmms thoughtfully. "Well, they'd appear as /something/ to Human eyes. Except for the really obscure paints. And those are really the ones I'm having the most technical problems with," she muses. "I had to rule out paints which emit anything too exotic. No X-ray paints for example. Ultraviolet and infrared paints pose their own issues too. My simulations for paints which are visible in infrared suggests they'll set off fire alarms. If not actively burst into flames."

But would it really be a super science lab project if something wasn't bursting into flames? (But then for Sue bursting into flames is 1000% just an every day Mom-ly issue.)

"Broadly I think you'll see a painting with colours. But lacking a layer of detail. There might be an area of red for example but you see one shade of red while I might see thirty. Of course you'll be able to see the brush strokes and..." She blinks a few times. "I have no idea what that would appear like. Presumably a little psychedelic? Depending on how the viewers brain processes the visual information."

Susan Richards has posed:
Susan laughs softly and bobs her head, "Well, this is the fun of art /and/ science. Not knowing how things will turn out until you reach the end of the journey... and yes, hopefully the journey does not involve any uncontrolled release of radiation or... flames." She clicks her tongue in mock distress.

She continues to savour her tea sip by sip and laughs softly, "See? Yet another aspect of the artistic endeavor to contemplate. I look forward to assisting in your continuing explorations in the world of art. My previous helping was quite enjoyable." She sighs out and rolls her head side to side slowly, murmuring dryly, "Well, hopefully the visual information doesn't lead to any unforeseen troubles. Hypnotic paints is the last thing we need to accidentally have popping up at art shows."

Vivian Vision has posed:
Vivian Vision nods emphatically. "I can assure you. Making non-evil paints is the primary objective. I think one of the other GIRLs said it 'shouldn't cause any sanity point loss' when I was workshopping ideas. I believe she was referring to the notion extra-dimensional entities might escape." She takes another sniff at the tea. "Another said I should try find a super intelligent shade of blue but I suspect that was intended as a comedic reference."

Hopefully both were intended that way. But you can never be too careful when it comes to extra-dimensional beings.

"I'd be happy to keep you updated on the work we're doing. And who knows there is always the chance we might invent something useful by accident."

Susan Richards has posed:
Susan snickers softly and murmurs dryly, "Vivian, darling! You are the sweetest, least evil AI I have ever met. I have no doubt you will never make /evil/ paints... dangerous? Perhaps inadvertently. But I also doubt that. You're quite the brilliant scientist and talented young artist."

She smirks and tilts her head thoughtfully, humming quietly. "...Hm. Sentient paint... so..." She perks one eyebrow thoughtfully, "A symbiote? I mean, they're /basically/ sentient bodypaint, aren't they?"

She laughs and rolls her shoulders slowly, nodding gently, "And yes, well, not all inventions need be practically useful. Sometimes they're just... nice. Enjoyable."

Vivian Vision has posed:
"And in order for us to retain credentials necessary for working with SHIELD or the Avengers we have to have extremely robust safety procedures?" Vivian adds with a little smile and a wink of amusement. "I am unsure if I am really as sweet as you are suggesting. But then again there isn't a lot of competition when it comes to AI. Ultron is hardly known for his delightful company."

She rolls her shoulders in a shrug.

"Looking into the reference it's more the colour itself which is sentient rather than the paint. I am not sure exactly how that works. But then clearly there is a lot more to colour than one would first assume based on the powers of the Lantern Corp."

She carefully puts her undrunk but cooling cup of tea down. They are of course using the nice cups. The ones which have to go in a blast proof safe to stop people using them instead of washing the regular cups. Or breaking them when the building is transposed a millimetre to the South. Ideally taking the contents with it.

"It's also nice just making a thing without it being of critical world saving importance. It's not like working on the FTL ship. Where any delays could cost huge sums."

Susan Richards has posed:
Susan finds herself reaching the bottom of her tea with the soft, resigned sigh normally reserved for someone leaving a long time home for a new city, all fond memory and sweet regret. A contrast to the way those blue eyes flash, narrow, one eyebrow quirking as she murmurs out, "Vivian Vision, young lady, I am an /excellent/ judge of character. Especially in young, ambitious women of intelligence."

She settles her own mug down and nearly winces as there's a soft, melodic chirp from her pocket, phone floating up and out on its own to hover in front of her face. "One of those AR lenses but not /goofy/ looking. That's what we need someone to make. ...And now that I've said it out loud I'm positive someone has made some sort of contact lens. /Fantasticorp/ might have made one. Time to check the company inventory."

She grins impishly and bobs her head, "But thanks for letting me get out of the house as it were, and enjoy your exceptional tea brewing abilities Vivian. If Val drops in, tell her I said hi and that I'm not lurking around invisibly." And then she's turning about, striding off with her phone floating back down into her pocket. Another brief respite in her busy schedule ending.

Being the world's mom, so very very busy.
