Another day in Hope House
Date of Scene: 01 July 2023
Location: Hope House
Synopsis: Evan and Raven discuss what Hope House currently needs.
Cast of Characters: Evan Sabahnur, Raven Darkholme

Evan Sabahnur has posed:
New York is always hot in the summer. The sun's rays seem to be multiplied by bouncing off all the skyscrapers before reaching the street, and those same buildings tend to block most breezes that might help cut the heat. Hope House is a little warm, but the air conditioning actually works given that it was fixed by the Brotherhood before the real heat hit the city.

Evan is fortunate in that he automatically adapts to whatever climate he finds himself in, so he's perfectly comfortable. He's been spending a lot of time helping out around Bushwick, mostly here at Hope House. It just feels right to help out the mutants who don't have a place like Xavier's to live comfortably in. He's quickly become somewhat of a fixture in the area, his somewhat striking appearance making him easily recognized by the mutants in the area.

Today finds him carrying a food delivery from the truck into the walk-in refrigerator, a job made easy by a few muscle tweaks so that he can pick up a couple hundred pounds without real effort. Which is probably why he's the only one unloading, having told the other staffers he would handle it so they could get other things done.

Raven Darkholme has posed:
Hope House had been created by a former member of the Brotherhood who had since moved on and left the place in the hands of others to continue it's good work. Raven had personally seen to it that the funds kept flowing so the doors stayed open.

Today was the delivery of a few small AC units for bedroom windows, while carrying with her a tool box and new parts for the big AC. Summer in New York was too hot for many, and Hope House needed to be an oasis from that heat.

Evan Sabahnur has posed:
Evan looks over as the panel truck pulls up to the delivery bay and Raven gets out. He's become more comfortable around her since he's been volunteering in Bushwick. She's gone from ohmygodit'sMystique! to the current "Hi Raven. If you've got any more window units, they can use them on the top floor. Try as we might, we can't stop hot air from rising."

He picks up a stack of boxes and heads for the kitchen again. "We're good on food for a while, but the air conditioning is key. We've been keeping the older folks on the ground floor where it's coolest." As they get to the fridge he cheats a little forming and opening the door with an extra arm so that he doesn't need to put down or balance the boxes.

Ducking inside, he puts the boxes in their place and comes back out. "So how have things been going on your end of things?"

Raven Darkholme has posed:
Raven offers Evan a grin as the young man just takes charge with the information of where and what is needed, then she sends the helpers with her to the upper floors with the window units.

"Thank you Evan," she offers with a chuckled snort before following him inside. "That thermodynamic lesson was greatly appreciated."

Once inside she starts checking the temperature from the vents in the kitchen, "Oh yeah, freon recharge needed, as well as this new blower, then the heat can keep rising and we'll freeze it out."

Evan Sabahnur has posed:
Back to the normal human number of arms for the moment, he closes the fridge behind him. "Yeah, makes all the residents and drop-ins a lot less salty when they aren't sweating all over the place. I'm all for calm days, myself, so recharge away." He's heading back to the truck bay since there's more to bring in. "It's nice seeing regular deliveries of food and clothes coming in, we're helping a lot of people here these days."

And honestly, he's helping a lot of the people here. He's always got a smile or cheerful greeting for anyone he comes across. He's matured a lot in the past couple months, coming out of the shell he had hidden in when he was the only obvious mutant around. He's seen a lot of mutants who had it a lot worse, however. He never ran afoul of the Friends of Humanity, for instance, just being ostracized and teased in school.

"I broke up a couple scuffles over clothes and the like, just little things. People always seem to be in a bad mood when they get too hot. So the more air conditioning, the better as far as I'm concerned."

Raven Darkholme has posed:
Now that Raven was certain the problem was exactly what she thought it was, she clipped the thermometer to her tool belt and picked the tool box back up. Sure, she could have sent Handy Toad to do these repairs, or any other of the many handy types, but there were times when she still liked to get her hands dirty... she also liked to check in and look around from time to time.

"That reminds me," she says once Evan comes back inside. "I have to head to the basement for my work, but there will be a plumber in tomorrow to fix the showers in the guys locker room. Could you leave a note on the board so I can get right to making things cooler?"

Evan Sabahnur has posed:
"Yeah, that's no problem, I'll put it up so we're expecting plumbers. That'll make a lot of people happier too, we've had to be scheduling hours for men to use the woman's locker room, which means we've had to put someone at the door to make sure only the gender of the hour is allowed in to avoid any incidents." He tosses her a little salute as he heads over to the dry erase calendar and writes 'plumber today' in tomorrow's box, then heads out to the truck to finish unloading it.
