Fly High, Crash Low
Date of Scene: 13 August 2023
Location: The Triskelion: Courtyard
Synopsis: Natasha and Zinda watch an exploding ejector seat.
Cast of Characters: Natasha Romanoff, Zinda Blake

Natasha Romanoff has posed:
A demonstration has been made of a new ejector seat that's in prototype stage for some of the Quinjets that involves launching the cockpit away via explosive bolts. A mockup of the Quinjet has been setup along with the cockpit ejector with some crash test dummies.
the restuling test involved the cockpit ejector being launched away, exploding, wtih the crash test dummies inside incinerated and melting into the metal internals. Currently agents are spraying it down over with fire extinguishers, and bets are being paid off.

Zinda Blake has posed:
Zinda Blake has stepped out of the observation bunker to watch the cleanup. She's collecting more than a few bets, herself. The blonde has her arms folded, hip cocked as she watches while shaking her head slowly. "We'll see how that mess looked on the high-speed." she offers, to anyone who happens to be close by. She's wearing the short Blackhawk skirt and boots, along with the leather flight jacket over a t-shirt.

"Back in my day, if you wanted to bail out you rolled the canopy back and just jumped. Ejection seats are a marvel, but ejecting a whole cockpit? There's too much weight. Ain't just a matter of strappin' on more rockets."

Natasha Romanoff has posed:
Natasha Romanova would nod over at Zinda, "Yes, but a necessityif you're going along at supersonic speeds and being tagged by high explosives or lasers. The effectiveness of a normal launch method apparently leaves something to be desired when it comes to a normal bailout." Which with something the side of the Quinjet, the armor it had, and something strong enough to breach said armor but to leave the personnel inside alive clearly left something to be desired when it came to existing methods.

She's just watching. "I'm sure there's a reason why this isn't going to leave the prototype stage."

Zinda Blake has posed:
Zinda Blake shakes her head slowly. "I ain't sayin' it ain't possible, just that the whiz kids need to rethink it a bit." she offers. "It ain't a matter of just more thrust. Ejection seats are really just rockets that kick the pilot outta the cockpit in less than a second. That's a lotta thrust in a real short time. You gotta look at the whole ejection -event-."

Zinda starts gesturing while she talks. "What probably happened was one of the rockets got outta sync or misfired somehow. Plenty of energy to light things up. Besides, if you try an' kick the whole cockpit out all at once, the acceleration is gonna kill people."

Natasha Romanoff has posed:
Natasha Romanova would nod, "I'm sure that they're aware of that as well. I'm sure that a few of them have been launched through them when the Quinjet is going down before or in the field. So they have personal experience and incentive to get it right." Her tone is ostly amused. "So this is what trial runs are for." She would go to watch over at it.
"I'm sure that they'll figure out the initial issues, decide whether they can try again and fix it, or whether they need another method."

Zinda Blake has posed:
Zinda Blake walks over with Nat while they chat. "They may need to change their approach a little, yeah. Ejection seats were designed to work even if the plane was sitting on a runway. That's why they always go up. If this system is designed to be a safeguard at supersonic speeds, a better approach might be to -separate- the cockpit from the rest of the plane. Not really just... UP.... but have each one go in different directions."

She stops a respectful distance away, given the intense heat of burning metal and the liberal use of the spray foam.

Natasha Romanoff has posed:
Natasha Romanova would nod, "I'm sure that they would appreciate your input in the matter. They may be going about it purely from a technical perspective. Practical experience and suggestions will no doubt help them a great deal. Then again, there's something to be said for a few failures with explosions as well to help get the point across." Everyone likes explosions, right?

Zinda Blake has posed:
Zinda Blake folds her arms over her chest, watching the fire for a moment. "I'll say a few words to somebody about it." she replies. "Maybe I'll invite myself to the incident debriefing." Zinda used to invite herself to all sorts of technical meetings at Blackhawk Enterprises when her presence wasn't fully appreciated. At least at SHIELD, she hasn't worn out her welcome. So far, anyway.

Natasha Romanoff has posed:
Natasha Romanova would nod, "I'm sure they would appreciate it. At the very least, I'm sure that they'll show you some of the stills that they've made over in the engineering department and let you spend some time with what they've made."

Zinda Blake has posed:
Zinda Blake shrugs lightly at that. "Young minds, new ideas." she declares. "Although I reckon I ain't really all that -old-, myself. Just got different experience, is all." And practical experience, at that.
