Turning over a new leaf
Date of Scene: 22 August 2023
Location: Greenhouse
Synopsis: Batman checks in on Ivy, and seems content with her activities. For now.
Cast of Characters: Pamela Isley, Bruce Wayne

Pamela Isley has posed:
Ivy has taken over more then a little of the green house staff areas. She is using it to grow and test some new ideas she has to work on low cost home and to some more fun side projects as well. She is dressed in what she feels the most comfortable, plants, and is staring into a microscope as she tests the growth rate of a new crossbreed she is working on. Her hair is pinned back with a chopstick and there's a bit of tea brewing off to the side to help her keep going through the long long nights.

Bruce Wayne has posed:
"Good to see you returning to your roots."
The gravely voice of the Batman appears from the back of the greenhouse. Ivy's plants likely alerted her to his arrival, but he srides from the shadows even as if it were in complete stealth. His gaze sweeps over the assemblage near her, as if considering just what it is that she is attempting to science at the moment.

Pamela Isley has posed:
Ivy is glad that Batman didn't try to go around the warning systems Ivy has and let her know he is coming. She still isn't immune to his arrival. "I swear you were a theater major in college or something." She takes a slow breath to calm down and eyes the costumed hero. "If I knew you were coming I'd brew more tea. Then again I doubt you take it even if you saw me open a fresh case in front of you. You're welcome to some hot water if you want." Ivy gets to her feet and puts her hands to her back and stretches. Having been looking down and into the microscope too long.
AS far as what she is working, it may take more then a glance to figure. She sems to have several tests going on. One involves bamboo clearly. She has the chopstick in her messy hair bun, she has some of it growing off with colored ribbons tied around it. There's a new species of flower clearly under some special lights in a ontained area that has a unique patter of flower colors in blues, pinks, purples, and whites. Finally there's some sort of moos growing on a slant with a lot of sensors for temperature, carbon dioxide, and some other things.

Bruce Wayne has posed:
"I had some on the way."
His eyes follow her movements as she stretches. Not in appreciation for the form as presented, but wary of the slightest movement that might indicate anything beyond merely loosening up muscles. She may seem cooperative now, but she will never be without her thorns.
He scans the assorted items that are assembled for the experiment. Not about to try to surmise its purpose, he does make one observation. "How do you plan to control the invasive and expeditious growth of the bamboo in whatever it is you are concocting?" She is far more skilled in science than he is, but consequences of actions are something she does not always wrestle with.

Pamela Isley has posed:
Ivy looks over to the bamboo and heads over to it. "I'm not trying to curb it's growth. I'm tryin to alter it's strength and density while retaining that trademarked flexibility, Batman. If it works then it can be a replacement for much of the lumber used and wasted on housing framework." She looks over at Batman and Ivy's smile is that dangerous one with her teeth showing, "Then the useless idiot humans can stop slash and burning the planet quiet so much." She moves a bit to the side to get her tea. "Take a look if you like, please don't touch."

Bruce Wayne has posed:
Batman frowns. "While the application of bamboo is considerable, I am not sure by sheer virtue of its flexibility if it can replace traditional lumber in any but a few limited applications." He walks over towards the experiments, not shifting from that trademark Bat-scowl as she continues. "I appreciate your efforts, but my concern remains. Genetically engineered bamboo would be a threat to any biome it is introduced to."

Pamela Isley has posed:
"I have a backer and it's just one of my points of inquiry. The real challenge isn't making a carbon negative house, Batman. It's dealing with soft skulls like Bruce Wayne and the greedy board of big corporations. They won't want the change. Change costs money and they don't like to spend it even if they have more then they could hope to sanely use. That and the public getting used to the idea of a home looking different." Ivy sips her tea but scowls at Batman. "Which, of the two of us is A connected to the Green, and B holds degrees in dealing with these fields. I think I can avoid /accidentally/ letting loose a plant that aggressive."

Bruce Wayne has posed:
"Can avoid? Yes. Chooses to?" The Batman moves back around towards Ivy. "You have always been a gifted scientist, Pamela, and if you were to apply your skills _responsibly_ with concerns about the balance of all things, we never would have had any disagreements." He glances towards the bamboo. "You paint a good picture, but you habitually disregard the consequences, anticipated or otherwise, of your actions."

Pamela Isley has posed:
Ivy tries, and fails, to hide her scowl at batman as she sips her tea again. "I can't sell a weapon, Batman. I'm not Penguin." She pause. "Okay I totally COULD sell a weapon but that isn't who my backer is and not my thing." She motions to the bamboo. "I'm not even sure if I'm going to use it. Besides that's only one way I considered. Truth be told there is a lot of people already using old containers. I also debated making a product from the mulching and grinding of the bamboo, like chipwood." She moves to stand closer to Batman and as they look at the plant in question.

Bruce Wayne has posed:
"You could sell a weapon disguised as a solution, and then laugh as the folly of man dives in deep." This is not supposition, it has actually been her plan on more than one occasion. Even if this time Pamela seems to have more benevolence involved. Maybe.
He stands shoulder to shoulder with Pamela as they both observe the plant, and he speaks quietly. "This is a far better application of your talents than knocking over banks."

Pamela Isley has posed:
"Batman." Ivy deadpans as if the man just said something exceptionally stupid. "If I was going to do that I would make a thing to give men 'virility' and the promise of 'getting any woman you want' and watch them rip themselves apart or worse."
She shakes her head and says to the taller man, "I never cared about money really. Money was just a means to an end. This takes money and time and effort. I am still one woman." She looks over at him and grins, "So you going to ask about the others? Using your tricks to take samples or recordings to double check my statements?"

Bruce Wayne has posed:
Weighing Ivy's words, the Batman looks at her, glancing over her form once more, and then allows something of a smile. More of a smirk, really. "I suppose if you could bottle yourself, you would be the richest person on the planet."
He shakes his head at her accusation. "No. I believe you." He waves a hand to indicate the other experiments. "The experiments are not what is relevant, it is you. I am pleased to see your focus." A pause. "I would much rather have you working on behalf of humanity than in opposition to it."

Pamela Isley has posed:
Ivy shudders. "I appreciate the sentiment. But being 'bottled' makes me think of what they tried in Arkham." She sips more tea and then says, "Besides. I like being a rare flower and not sharing my ways with others."
She casually will poke him in the side. "I'm not doing this for Humanity! I hate most of your kind. There are exceptions I will grant. I am doing this for the planet before we are all dead. The fact most seem to feel the planet is just fine as it was as early as fifty years ago is Akrham levels of insanity." She nods to the moss. "That's part of this project as well. The flower... that's all mine."

Bruce Wayne has posed:
"Hmm." He does not argue her point. It is hard to argue, truthfully.
"Since humanity lives on the planet, I will accept that doing it for the planet does it for us as well." He looks to the moss, nodding, and then the flower in turn. "Just..." He looks over at Pamela. "Just keep this on the straight and narrow. You have much to offer. And very little of it can you do from Arkham."

Pamela Isley has posed:
"I'll remember you said that and get you to show up for my parole hearing if I ever get one." She won't though. "Or going to ask for a vacation somewhere sunny and nice." Ivy will finish her tea and heads over to put it into a sterilizer to help clean it. "So does this mean you'll go ask the others of your little bat buddy gang to stay away from me? It is nice to be free of undesirable interruptions."

Bruce Wayne has posed:
"Avoid getting sent back, and you won't need parole." The Batman watches as she moves about, cleaning her tea cup, and preparing it seems to conclude.

"I can pass along to them my observations from this evening, and leave them to their own choices."

If Pamela has any response to that, it is unclear if it is heard once uttered, as when she turns back around, the Batman is gone.

Pamela Isley has posed:
"That's... weird to be on the receiving end of that." She shrugs and stretches. "Oh well," Ivy yawns and says, "Time for this flower to go to her bed. Ta-ta Batman. Stay safe out there."
