A Matter of Genocide
Date of Scene: 12 September 2023
Location: Shuri's Chambers - Wakandan Embassy
Synopsis: Alura seeks aid from Wakanda in the search for genetic understanding. Did the Oans attempt to genocide Krypton before? only the science will tell.
Cast of Characters: Alura In-Ze, Shuri

Alura In-Ze has posed:
Nothing quite turns heads like walking in to a building wearing the Superwoman outfit. Of course there are those who aren't sure if it's legit. But most pull out cameras to take pictures. The tall warriors with spears are certainly doing their best to maintain composure and security.

There's a line at the front desk to make appointments. The people who come here are typically journalists and aids to senators looking to make deals with Wakanda. Not that many have been granted. From what Alura's been able to ascertain, Wakanda is a very private country.

And so Superwoman joins the queue. The man in front of her, young but in a nice suit and obviously working for someone in Washington DC looks sheepishly at her and then steps out of the way. She smiles and takes a step forward. The mood catches and every body parts for her.

The stately looking woman standing behind the desk is adorned with beautiful golden bracelets and an expression of 'I think I can take you, but I'm not sure I should try' - a challenging expression but Alura is not one to fall for that kind of bait. She's here on important business.

"State your business," says the woman.

Alura offers her hand but no handshake is returned. "I'm here to see the king, or the princess, or whoever is highest ranking here that can be trusted."

Everybody is craning their neck to see how this interaction is going to go. The woman in charge of this part of the embassy is not sure how to process this request. She presses -a button- to bring Shuri's attention to the situation. "You will wait here."

Alura gives a small nod. Wait here. Sure. Her hands fold across her chest and she waits.

Shuri has posed:
A bodyguard opens the double doors behind the desk and checks on the situation that buzzes for attention. She glances at Alura, then at the woman in charge of the desk, "Does she have an appointment?" she asks.

Behind the desk, Shuri and a couple other people are alive with conversation. She seems to be giving a presentation on a holo-transmitter and she raises her arms, pointing to a supercool, technologically advanced, projected PowerPoint, "And in those ways, we can double production and help more people," she tells them. She smiles politely and nods her head to their murmurs and the online applause. In her regal outfit, she motions to the door, "Thank you for coming, and those online, thank you for listening."

Those with the stately Shuri push open the doors and head out while the woman at the desk examins the guest roster and ponders the guard's question. While at the doors, Shuri observes Alura and her guard, who crosses her arms as she keeps eyeing Alura, "Is anything wrong?" Shuri calls out, "Do we have the next appointment?" she asks.

Alura In-Ze has posed:
"Do you have an appointment?"

Alura shakes her head, "I do not. I'd be happy to make one though."

"And what name should I put down for that appointment?"

Alura raises an eyebrow slightly. These people are good at keeping space for their royalty. It's their job after all but still it's an obstacle. She can be patient though. Very patient. "Superwoman."

"The Crown Princess has a space open in 17 months time Miss Superwoman."

Alura presses her lips together ever so slightly in annoyance at the impressive bureaucracy. With a motion over her arm, the gauntlet she's wearing emits a hologram hovering before her.

Kryptonian symbols float as she looks them over and types in to the air demonstrating the alien technology, "17 months? It's possible there will be a great space war by then if I don't see someone important from Wakanda sooner. But if that's the best you've got I will put it in my calendar."

Shuri has posed:
Walking up to the desk, Shuri smiles and seems comfortable, maybe happy that her presentation went so well. She looks at the woman at the desk and then at Alura, catching most of what she said as she was walking up, "Come come," she says, motioning Alura around the desk, "I have time now," she explains.

The guard raises her chin and looks at Shuri as if silently quoting the rules, "Okimbe," she says, as if that was enough of a comment to say more, "I have plenty of time before our next call," she says and motions Alura into the Princess Presentation Room, through the double doors. While Alura proceeds in, Shuri seems to regard her curiously, or maybe regard her technology curiously. "Superwoman? Welcome," she states.

Alura In-Ze has posed:
Alura smiles as Shuri cuts through the red tape. Even if her guards aren't too pleased with deviating from the plan they are probably used to Shuri doing what Shuri wants. She follows the princess in to the room.

"There is war brewing on the planet Oa and only Wakanda can help stop it," Alura states rather matter of factly. But she quickly realises that even Wakanda has barely dipped its toes in to space.

Waiting for the doors to close Alura motions over her bracer and a hologram of a big blue planet appears over the desk with a flick gesture from her fingers. "Oa, the birth place of the Oan people. An extremely old civilisation of super geniuses. They call themselves the Guardians of the Universe. They are the ones who created the Green Lantern corps to police the far reaches of the galaxy."

"You might be wondering what this has to do with Wakanda. 87 years ago my brother in law, Jor-El, came to Earth seeking a proto relative between Kryptonians and Humans. Instead he found Wakanda."

She motions to the seats, "May I? This will take some explaining and it requires your utmost discretion. What I am going to tell you must not be repeated to anyone." Superwoman has a gentle nature to her yet she is very 'to the point' today. She at least did her research on T'Challa and Shuri. Enough to know they would be trustworthy.

Shuri has posed:
Shuri closes the doors and turns to look at Alura, the curious Superwoman with the awesome tech. She is quiet as Alura goes on with her story then motions to the seat, her golden bracelets jingling a little as she offers Superwoman a cushy chair.

"You certainly have a way of putting things," Shuri explains and then chuckles as she realizes, "Yes, and I do too. It's true," she comments.

She waves a hand in the air and a holo transmitter shuffles a list through the air, "I have been practicing this speech for weeks," she says, "Sometimes I get excited and go too fast ...and I have too much energy--trying to prove my point!" she lets out. She smiles. The practiced, holo words fade away. Finally, her smile fades and she looks serious as she says, "Whatever the problem is, we can deal with it," she says, somewhat confidently, "What is this war?" she asks.

Alura In-Ze has posed:
The planet changes from a big blue ball to a more mars like world. "This is New Krypton. I helped found it last week. During the founding of it we were attacked by an army of Green Lanterns and weapons from Oa." A concerned look crosses her face. "The Green Lanterns wisely chose to defend us but the weapons that came with them would not obey their commands."

The planet zooms down on a Kryptonian city. There's one giant tower in the center with a big scorch mark across its side and several fires across the city. "We teamed up and destroyed the orbs but accusations have been levelled at certain Oans of attempted genocide."

"A rift has formed in the Green Lanterns. Those who believe there are bad actors in the Oan ranks and those who implicitly trust their masters without question." She lets out a small sigh. "The problem is that accusations have been made that Oa has attempted to destroy Krypton before. That they poisoned star systems with deadly radiation against us. That they were the ones who destroyed our sun, Rao, and thus our planets and moons. That they ... destroyed the genetic viability of our species."

She lets that wording sit for a moment. "87 years ago Jor-El sought out a proto ancestor to our peoples in the hopes he would be able to correct our genetics. Krypton had relied solely on artificial birth and genetic engineering for centuries. We had gotten quite good at it. But the future of Krypton and its people seemed bleak."

"Jor-El did not find the progenators but instead became friends with the then king of Wakanda. They fought in World War II together - I think. If I got my timelines right. But it was a plant that exists only in Wakanda that bore the fruits of progress for Jor-El's search. A way to fix our broken genetics."

Shuri has posed:
Shuri also sits down and listens while Alura tells her story. She nods as Alura pauses. "It is an herb that grows in Wakanda and my people are sorta protective of it because they say it is from the Panther Goddess. I mean, protective is a nice word but--you know what I mean."

"Actually, I do not think anyone's really been able to synethize it that well, but a couple people tried, I think," she says and hmms, her history lesson obviously not as good as Alura, "Superwoman, I know where you are going with this---you want some of the plant, right? Well---that would be a complicated thing," she states with a nod, thinking about the red tape all over again.

Alura In-Ze has posed:
She pauses as Shuri catches on. "I do. I need to determine the difference between the cure Jor-El gave to myself and his wife, which allowed us to have children; and the average Kryptonian, who now lives on New Krypton. I also have as ample of DNA from an alternate timeline where Oa was destroyed by Krypton in its past. This should be enough differentials to determine if Oa is responsible."

She twists her lips. "If they are or they are not it will sway the nature of the conflict brewing on Oa. But not knowing is what is causing all the friction. They cannot simply bring Oans to justice without proof. Right now, the hardliners are claiming the weapons malfunctioned."

"If Oa was not behind it then we can accept there must be peace. If they were behind it - well, then we can use diplomacy to force peace and bring those responsible to justice."

It's clear from the look on her face she is quite daunted by the task at hand. "I don't know what Jor-El did with your herb. He kept it secret, most likely at the request of your people. But it restored my genetics, Lara's genetics, and allowed us to give birth to Superman and Supergirl. It is no small thing to realise an alien species bares such ill will to you that they would poison your genepool."

Shuri has posed:
Shuri hmms again and looks a bit uncomfortable with the prospects of this conversation, "It is also ... no small thing to humanize ones Gods. Perhaps it is written Jor-El bought this but it is now the Goddess who commands it, I should think. It is not really a magic flower but .... there is spirit in it and thousands of years of Wakanda running through it," she explains. She also pauses, "What do you want to do with it? Test it? Show it to everyone? Write a story and explain what happened?" she asks and shakes her head at the thought, "Will that stop these ...Oans?"

Alura In-Ze has posed:
Alura looks a little surprised at the spiritual aspects of the herb. "I see." She seems pensive for a moment but as more questions are asked she explains. "Scan it. I wish to reverse engineer what Jor-El did to me. To my genetics. If I can substantiate that my genetics were healed through the use of this.. herb.. then the allegations of genetic tampering with my species are true."

"...and that is a secret that will be kept by only the highest levels in the Green Lanterns. How they did it and how it was cured will not be explained but shown as evidence. Right now there is a missing link between my genetics, the alternate timeline genetics, and regular Kryptonian genetics. I need to subtract the influence of the herb from the equation."

"Perhaps it won't match, perhaps this timeline Kryptonians are simply different. Perhaps Jor-El never even used the herb - though his notes state he used a plant from Wakanda. But given how sacred this herb is to your people - if you would allow me to scan it, once I am done I will delete all my research."

Shuri has posed:
Shuri begins to look more unsure as the conversation passes, "Good thing you came to me. I am pretty much the only one who can help you," she states matter-of-factily. She leans back in her cushy chair and says, "I have eaten the herb only one time when I thought it would help me---" she begins but doesn't go into detail, "It has amazing spiritual powers. The Goddess will know if we take it. I am not sure how much trouble that will be," she frowns.

"Perhaps we can use the Wakandan Science Group. They have designed many useful things. Maybe they have what we need or can help us get it."

Alura In-Ze has posed:
"Without proof the Oans will never admit guilt and if they are innocent, I will never be able to calm down the rebelling side. So, perhaps, bending the rules a little is necessary. It is not my call. If it is not possible then I will have to find another way."

Alura smiles, "But if you believe you can help me with this then fortune has smiled on me and I found the right royalty of Wakanda." She pauses and then offers, "My name is Alura Zor-El. I was a scientist for most of my life. Then a leader.. and now apparently a superhero on an alien world. Life takes us in the most unexpected directions."

"From all I have read about you, I believe I can trust you. The secrets of your herb, the secrets of my genetics, the secrets of the Oans. There is a lot at stake here. A lot of lives in the balance, a lot of worlds under the sway of Green Lantern protection. They are good people, most of them. They deserve to know the truth."

Shuri has posed:
Shuri smiles now and says, "Well, if you need some rules bending, then I am sure I can help," she chuckles and then adds, "I think we can show Wakanda a new science! Between two peoples! That would impress even my brother. That would be so great," she grins, "But maybe the science group already has all we need on record. We will have to go there to find out," she explains to Alura.

She stands up from her cushy seat and motions to Alura, "Well you better start packing! Yes, we have work to do!" she lets out, "But remember what I said, if the Goddess intervenes, we better have a plan. You better prepare one of your best stories!" she explains and chuckles again, "It was good to meet you, Alura."

Alura In-Ze has posed:
Alura rises too and smiles. "I am armed with the truth. I can only hope that is enough for your Goddess, if they intervene."

She smiles and shuts her eyes for just a moment as she remembers a family dinner between the two couples at Jor-El and Lara's place. Jor-El at the head of the room wildly waving his arms as he described the wonders he saw on Earth. The excitement of an explorer and the hope that the strange plant from Wakanda had given him. It was that night that they all agreed to break the law and try experiment genetic engineering.

As she opens them again she gives a nod of approval to Shuri. "And you Princess Shuri."
