Tis the season
Date of Scene: 18 December 2023
Location: Wetworks Bar and Distillery
Synopsis: No description
Cast of Characters: Jason Todd, Roxanne Spaulding

Jason Todd has posed:
It's a week until Christmas Eve. You have all of your shopping done. Right? You do, don't you?

You can't fool anyone. You haven't even started you slacker. So. What are you going to do? Just give everyone gift cards? Seriously? That's, like, the best worst gift ever. Assuming you don't give gift cards to the sorts of places people don't want to go, at least they can find what they like at your expense.

Staring at himself in the window of one of many shops festively decorated for the holidays, Jason Todd's inner monologue could probably work for just about anyone who has procrastinated their holiday shopping to this point.

He's wearing gray denim, a black tee under a black, white and red flannel and over it all a brown leather jacket to cut the Gotham winter chill.

What is he going to do for gifts for the Family? Well so far nothing. But here he is trying to sort it out - by staring his reflection down and chastising himself. How could it possibly fail?

Roxanne Spaulding has posed:
Retail therapy. It's something that she -would- partake in if she had the cash for it. Still, it took a good chunk of her cash just to get to Gotham to try to find help with an issue.

Disappointed in the results, that means that Roxanne is out and about, dressed in snug fitting skinny jeans, a pair of leather winter boots, a thick grey generic COLLEGE hoodie, with a peacoat to finish her ensemble.

With her hands stuffed in her pockets, she isn't exactly focusing on her situational awareness, and every now and then, she stops at one of the shops, nosewrinkling at the displays, clearly jealous of what other people can buy.

Coincidence would have her not too far from Jason as they seem to both stare at the same display.

Jason Todd has posed:
Jason Todd finishes berating his reflection and just sighs. Looking in at the display of perfume and cologne he considers and lets out a frustated breath and sigh just as he sees Roxanne standing there.

Hestating only for a moment, he steps toward her. "Excuse me.. Hi there. Do you have a minute? I'm trying to shop for some gifts for some friends. I'm not the best at picking out perfume or cologne. Would you.. mind offering your opinion? I'd be happy to buy you a bottle for your time?" He then considers. "Also, hello. I'm Jason." He offers an apologetic smile.

Roxanne Spaulding has posed:
Snapping out of her reverie as he speaks, she blinks for a few moments and looks towards him. She points to herself and hrmms, "Me?" Roxie then looks around and not seeing anybody else, she hrmms for a few moments as she looks over the selection.

"Guy friends or girl friend?" she asks, as that would be important in whether one gets a cologne or a perfume. "And do you think they want something musky? More natural? Fruity and floral?"

Yes, she knows about things like this and she extends a hand towards him. "And I'm Roxanne, but my friends call me Roxie. Nice to meet you, Jason."

Jason Todd has posed:
Jason Todd flashes a smile as she doesn't immediately shoot him down. Pulling his hand from inside the coat, he shakes her hand. His palm is a bit rough and calloused. "Nice to meet you Roxie. I really appreciate it." Pausing to pull open the door to let her enter first, he follows.

"Some of both. I've got a blended family you could say. One of my brothers.. he's pretty much your typical boy scout sort. The kind you'd expect to end up being a cop." He can't help but smirk a bit at that. "He's getting married soon. His finacee' is full of energy. Sporty but also kind of a home body. If you think of hanging around the house in comfy sweats and loving waffles. Well.. that would be her kind of thing" he admits with a light laugh. "And those are just the first two." He pauses to think, "I've got.. three more brothers and two sisters... And a long time family friend who is kind of like everyone's big sister." He looks completely lost as he considers what to get for each.

Roxanne Spaulding has posed:
Stepping into the store, she listens and blinks with more than a bit of surprise at the mention of blended family. Of course, to her that means step parents and everything that comes with it. That or a polygamist family. Maybe he's from Utah?

"First the cop. I think that's easy. A manly mansome man like that would probably want something woodsy, like with pine or oak or sandalwood is always a popular choice." Heading on over towards the cologne, she passes the Giorgio Armani, because that is for frat boys. "I really like this one." And she picks up a bottle of Obsession by CK, and squirts a bit on one of those sampler strips before handing it to Jason to see if he approves.

Jason Todd has posed:
A "Family" from Utah would be far less complicated than what the Wayne family tree looks like.

"Yeah that sounds kind of like him." Taking the sample, he considers it. "Yeah. I think that one would work." He looks to the bottle, half expecting it to be named Something-Something-Lumberjack. "I do like that one.. you're off to a great start helping a total stranger" he says with a laugh.

Roxanne Spaulding has posed:
"I'm a fashionista. That includes knowing what scents are in fashion." she says with a wry waggle of her brows. While they're in the colognes, she heads on towards the Sphora section, pulling off something that's more musky in that au naturale sort of way. Slightly sweet but still woodsy. "This is another one that I'm a fan of ig a fuy is wearing it." she explains.

"One can never go wrong with Sephora products." she says, squirting some on another tester before handing it to him. "How many more brothers you have? And what do they like? What do they do? That way we can match scents."

Jason Todd has posed:
Jason Todd nods seriously. "I believe it. You seemed like you know how to appreciate gifts like this."

He considers the scent.. "It's.. hmm. I don't quite place it. But yeah. It reminds me of my particularly nerdy brother. He's amazing with computers." He pauses. "Damn it. That reminds me I should get something for his boyfriend too.." because if you leave the resident anarchist out of the festivities? That's how you find your car fire bombed.

He ticks off, "Dick, Tim, Damian. Austin. Though.. I moved out before Austin came along. I don't really know much about what he likes..." Life is complicated.

Roxanne Spaulding has posed:
"Lots of brothers." she says with a soft chuckle, while giving Jason another look over. "All of them as good looking as you?" Roxie quips with a sly grin on her lips as she pulls out yet another CK choice for the anarchist. "Maybe Eternity will chill him out a bit. I like this scent too. It's still musky, but a bit sweeter instead of you know, smelling like your dad."

Jason Todd has posed:
Jason Todd nods in agreement. "yeah... I'm the second oldest. Then Tim. Then Damian. But he's actually our father's son not adopted. He was kind of a shock to all of us" he notes with a smirk. ".. and there's Stephanie, my brother's finacee. And sisters Phoebe and Cassandra. Harper's kind of .. not really family but still family. And Barbara who is the one I mentioned is like everyone's big sister..." he shrugs. "Our adoptive father was an orphan. He's chosen to adopt a number of us who don't have families either." Rich guys can afford to do things like that.

"But yeah... that one.. ? I like that. Lonnie could appreciate something like this."

He shoots her a look and a laugh, "No. They're not half as good looking as I am.." he's built much like a linebacker, with the thick muscular neck. The short dark hair is trimmed nicely. Though there is that shocking patch of pure white hair over his right eye. The long healed scar that starts at his left temple and runs down his left cheek to end where it once split the left side of his upper lip? That's just character. Right? Whatever happened was a while ago. He could have been 'good looking' in the model sense at one time. Now? It's more of the rugged, ex veteran sort of look. A man that has seen a lot of things that tend to still haunt him.

"I really do appreciate you helping me Roxie."

Roxanne Spaulding has posed:
Is it weird that she's getting odd Michael Jackson/Neverland images as he describes the relationships of various orphans under another orphan and then two of the orphans seemingly are getting married to each other. Don't judge, Roxie.

Keeping mum about the 'family' situation as it were, she ahhhs and grins toothily at the mention of him being the best looking of the bunch. "Then we shall my favorite cologne for you, yes?" she teases before wandering on over to another musky sweet cologne. "Can't go wrong with these two Tom Ford scents for the remaining brothers. I don't know them at all, but you can't go wrong with this. It's safe, and women generally like a man in Tom Ford."

Roxanne Spaulding has posed:
Roxanne Spaulding quickly adds, "And it's no problem. I was looking through these things I can't afford anyway. Ha!" her tone somewhat self depricating.

Jason Todd has posed:
If she mentioned that aloud, yeah.. he'd have a hard time refuting it. Did Jackson make his 'boys' wear hot pants and domino masks too? It.. is probably best that doesn't get asked out loud.

He looks at her with a half grin, "Your favorite, eh? Now you're just trying to play me for an even more expensive thank you gift.." he jokes. It was going to be top of the line anyway. Now maybe it'll be a whole gift package. Basket. Thing. Whatever they call them.

THen back to the others "Tim's the computer nerd. Damian. He's just got superiority and anger issues." He pauses.. "This has beena huge help already. Considering you don't even know me. Honestly, thank you. I think I can manage for the others."

Looking hat her again he gestures, "So that brings us to you picking your thankyou gift. Whatever you'd like" the hand sweeps around the store and he appears to be serious.

Roxanne Spaulding has posed:
"-Whatever- I'd like, Jason? Are you sure?" Her brows furrow, tilting her head as she gives him an appraising glance. Is he one of those secret rich people?

"That's a dangerous proposition, so I'll just make sure I have a teeny tiny bit of self control." Roxie replies, flashing her pearly whites in his direction as she wanders on over towards the perfumes and other body and facial care products.

The nice thing about stores like this is while they carry mainly colognes in the men's section, the women's is far more varied, filled with luxury toiletries and sundries of all sorts.

Sure, she could get all the items separately, but that would cost a fortune. Something catches her eye though. A gift basket that already has the basics that any girl would need, and it's Typology too!

"This." she says, motioning towards the basket behind the counter. "But only if you really mean -anything-." It's pricey around $200; it's most certainly out of any budget she would ever have.

Jason Todd has posed:
Jason Todd stuffs his hands back in his pockets. "Well I mean.. it -is- Christmas time. And you took time to give advice and input. And your suggestions have all been perfect. So yeah. I meant it." A nod and smile to reaffirm he means it.

"If that's what you'd like, Roxie, then sure." He doesn't even balk at the price.

Pulling out a credit card, he looks to one of the girls working the shop, "All of these, please. And that gift basket as well." He may not be made of money but if that is the case, he doesn't behave like this is going to hurt his bank account. All added up it certainly isn't a cheap bill. But he pays it willingly.

As it is all packed up, he looks to Roxie, "Thanks again." Pausing he considers, "Would you like to go grab something to drink? There's a nice coffee shop just around the corner. And it isn't part of a chain."

Roxanne Spaulding has posed:
Ooooh, Merry Christmas, Roxie! And with one week to the holiday as well.

With the basket purchased, she lets out a squeak of delight before she instinctively hops up to try to kiss his cheek; assuming he doesn't turn or anything like that.

Afterwards, she ahems and glances around furtively. "Uh.. I hope that wasn't too for..." and he asks her if she wants to grab a drink or a coffee shop.

With a sigh of relief that it's not a club (because she doesn't want to go to one of those for reasons...), she nods. "A coffee shop sounds great." she offers somewhat bashfully.

Jason Todd has posed:
Jason Todd offers over the basket.. but finds himself getting a kiss on the cheek. He might be blushing just a bit but he offers a silly grin.

He shakes his head, "I didn't mind. Not that I was looking for one.. but I liked it, sure."

As he gathers up his gifts, he offers a hand, "I can carry yours if you'd like?" What good are all those muscles if he doesn't use them for something?

"It's just around the corner from here" he repeats, gesturing down the street to the left once they're outside.

Roxanne Spaulding has posed:
What a gentleman! If she didn't think it'd ruin her rep or seem cringey, she'd probably all swoony. Still, she keeps her swoony-ness internalized and just lets out a soft giggle in the end.

"If you insist." Roxie says, letting him hold her bag. With the bags in tow, she wraps her arms around one of his, most definitely copping a feel on his bicep, just to see how strong he truly is.

"So this way you said?" she confirms as she starts heading to the left, looking around for the signs of the coffee shop.

Jason Todd has posed:
Alfred would be pleased if he knew of this moment. That will never happen, of course.

"I mean I'm not insisting.." he smirks, "But I don't mind carrying it either." He shrugs either way.

As she wraps her arms around his, she'll feel he is certainly strong. Not so much body builder/weight lifter strong. More strength-meets-MMA. He certainly moves at more lightly on his feet than most men of his height and general size.

"It is, yep" he nods. True to his word the coffee shop is half a block down and just around the corner.

Once inside he smiles. "Can I treat?" Typically he isn't quite so friendly.

*-This is an understatement.

"Considering I'm taking your time it's the least I can do." Of course he did just drop a good bit of money on a girl he doesn't even know but who's keeping track?

Roxanne Spaulding has posed:
Whats another five dollars or so for coffee when you've already spent a couple of Benjamins?

"Well, I guess you can get me a coffee." Roxie says, looking up towards the menu and she purses her lips. Tonight calls for something simple, but not your regular drip.

"I'll just have a latte." It's simple enough. Espresso and milk. "But make it soy or almond milk please." she says with a dopey little grin on her features.

Even though she wanted to do simple, the pastries do look quite delicious. With a little hip bump, she hrmms, "Want to share a pastry?" she asks.

Jason Todd has posed:
Jason Todd laughs as she decides he can pay. "Sounds good." He looks to the barista to make sure the order is heard correctly. For himself he considers, "I'll go with a cappuccino please." He then nods to Roxie, "Sure. Whatever you'd like, I'm okay with." He doesn't seem like the sort to binge a lot of sweets. Or if he is, it's only because he's in shape.

Once the order is settled and prepared, he looks around and gestures to two plush chairs with a small table between them currently unoccupied. "How about there?" Why sit in hard chairs if soft comfy ones are to be had?

Roxanne Spaulding has posed:
There's one of those deep fudgey chocolate cakes in a bundt form. Deciding that that would go well with both the cappucino and her latte, that's what she points out in the order.

Once everything is settled, she looks up towards him (as she's a shorty) and flashes another toothy smile before he leads them towards the plush chairs. "Plush chairs are far superior. Fewer back problems." she says with a sage nod before taking a seat, scooching her chair closer to his.

"So other than thatyou have a really big family, care to tell me more about yourself, Jason?" she asks

Jason Todd has posed:
Jason Todd grabs some napkins and a couple plastic forks - they're the biodegradable sort because no one wants to soss more into landfills. Or they shouldn't at least.

"Completely agree."

He sips at his drink then looks over it at her, "What? Pumping me for more information...? You already know my whole family" he jokes then stabs a bite of the small cake. After swallowing he gestures with his fork. "I'm just a Gotham guy. Not the best childhood but I lived through it and some other things" he addes vaguely. Like that scar probably. "I restore and customize cars." He sips his drink again.

"Now tell me about you, the mysterious yet surprisingly knowledgable about fragrances girl I've just met while window shopping.."

Roxanne Spaulding has posed:
"My family is a little less complicated than yours..." If you ignore the fact that she has a crap ton of half-sisters thanks to the meddling of Project Genesis and Project Cait making a crap ton of clones with her father's DNA.

"Grew up with a single mom. Never really knew my dad. I have a half sister, but she's a bit too famous to spend any time with me." a beat as she looks around, taking a sip of her latte, to not think about her last interaction with Cait.

"But it's all good. I'm resilient. And independent!" she chirps, oohing at the mention of restoring cars.

"So you get hot and sweaty during that?" she asks with clear approval on her features. "I like that."

A pregnant pause. "And I like muscley guys who know what they want, even if it's not perfume or cologne."

Jason Todd has posed:
Jason Todd listens intently as Roxie talks. "Even uncomplicated families have their share of complications it seems like."

Nodding soberly at the mention of a single parent family it seems to be more than just sympathetic. "It's tough when you don't get along with family. Even partial family." He idly spins his fork between three of his fingers.

"Being resilient is important. Not everyone has learned to do that." But should.

He laughs as she asks about him getting hot and sweaty. "Well sure.. doesn't everyone?" he asks with false modesty. With a crooked grin he shrugs, "I like beautiful cars and fast women --" he quickly corrects himself, ".. beautiful women and fast cars. That." He's mostly teasing. "I don't tend to do a lot with fragrances but I don't mind them."

Roxanne Spaulding has posed:
"All families have complications, whether it's blended, traditional, or non-traditional." Roxie says with a slow nod of her head while taking another sip of her latte.

With plastic fork in hand, she digs into the bundt cake and takes a bite. "Oooh, this is good!" she chirps, digging into the cake once more to bring the fork this time to his lips. "Try it!" she says with excitement.

"And that's what you're into them? So you're yet another one of those playboys that moms warn their daughters about?"

Jason Todd has posed:
Jason Todd laughs at her delight over the cake. He'd already had a bite. But now she's trying to feed it to him. Who is he to refuse being fed a bite of a treat he paid for, being offered by a pretty girl? Smartly he takes the bit.

"Yes it is good. I think they get them locally or they bake themselves. I'm not sure. Clearly not some random chain sort of dessert."

He then grins, "Mostly? I'm into restoring cars. Working with my hands." And viciously punishing criminals and leaving many of them with serious doubts about their future ability to walk or eat with anything other than a straw. But we won't talk about that.

"What about you? What do you do?"

Roxanne Spaulding has posed:
"I'll have to find the bakery if they don't make it here." Mental note for the next time she's in Gotham.

Her brows raise as she takes one of his hands, if he lets her, and starts examining it for callouses. If he has pretty hands, then it's full of shit, but somehow she doubts he's BSing her.

"Did you break your hand before?" she wonders, looking at his knuckles before hrmming, trying to deflect the question about what she does.

"I do odd jobs here and there. Sometimes I'm a bartender. Sometimes I work as a secretary." Sometimes as an exotic dancer, but that won't be mentioned in polite company.

"Just do what I can to get by. I usually don't stay in one place for too long." Of course, only someone whose on the run says something like that.

Jason Todd has posed:
Jason Todd is a master of BS when he wants or needs to be; he was trained by the Grand Master of BS, a certain playboy billionaire who is absurdly rich, but also far more intelligent and driven than all but a handful realize.

His brows rise as she takes his hand but he doesn't resist. His hands are strong, covered with a number of scars and scratches. The palms and pads of his fingers are very calloused. Wrenches, guns, melee weapons, hand to hand. It all adds up.

As she asks about his hand, he nods. "Yeah. Five ton floor jack failed. I had jack stands but my hand got smashed. That's probably a lie. But split knuckles from auto work are still true. As for damage from fighting, he long ago learned to use armored gloves to take the beating not his hands.

"We all do things we're not always proud of. Anything to get by." He isn't one to judge. "Sometimes we have an Ah-ha moment and find what we're looking for. A place or a job. Sometimes people. If we're really lucky, all of them at the same time. THey're the things that make a person want to put down roots and make a living." Maybe that's what's happened for him. Or what he hopes for.

"Where are you from since I'm sensing it isn't Gotham?"

Roxanne Spaulding has posed:
The story of the jack failing causes her to wince and look at his hand sympathetically. Once more, she reaches for his hand and takes a closer look if he lets her before letting go once more.

"I try to live with no regrets. Even if it's not something I'm proud of, I still dont want to regret it." Roxie says as she ahhs and nods. "Yes! I've had many of those before. One time, it was when we got zapped to another di..."

And before she continues the story, she glances around and ahems, "And.. yeah. Where am I from? Upstate New York, at least until mymom moved us to Vegas. But I've been staying mostly in Manhattan doing odd jobs, though my boss is kind of a skeeve." she says with a frown.

Jason Todd has posed:
Jason Todd is a little uncertain with her taking his hand again but he doesn't protest. She's just looking at it.

Sipping at his drink with his other hand he listens and nods. "I understand that perspective. Everyone has done things they aren't proud of. Sometimes a lot of things. Living isn't easy on the best of terms." He shrugs and then stabs at the chocolate cake again for a final bite before setting his plastic fork down. "It's really good but I think I'm finished. Help yourself" he offers.

"Manhattan's not a bad place to be from or to live. Like everywhere else, I guess it has its own challenges."

Roxanne Spaulding has posed:
Her brows furrow as he offers the last bits of cake. Surely, he knows the way to a girl's heart. With a bright smile, she takes the last few bites, relishing in that chocolatey goodness before downing it with a few sips of her latte.

"Mmmm..." she sighs contentedly, slumping back in the chair, most definitely content. "And it's not a bad place to live. It's expensive."

"I think I might stick around in Gotham for a bit though." If only because she's getting stalked, but that wouldn't be a thing to mention in polite company. "Sometimes you've just got to get away, right?"

Jason Todd has posed:
Jason Todd watches her finish the treat and seems pleased. He traces the tip of his right Social Finger around the top of his cup. It's just an absent action really. A thing to do with his hands.

"Yeah, it is expensive. The cost of a studio apartment there could probably buy one of the mansions in Old Gotham with money left over to get a long way into renovating it I'd guess.

He looks at her curiously, "Yeah? Well I think Gotham would be lucky to have you. Don't let the news sway you. Like Manhattan, a person has to be aware of their surroundings. Don't be out late alone. The usual things. Sure some things in Gotham are a bit.. intense.. the vigilantes and criminals they chase.." He shrugs as if he were resigned to it. Probably becahse he is involved first hand.

"Have you found a place to stay?" he asks curiously. He isn't trying to get an address as much as making sure she has somewhere.

Roxanne Spaulding has posed:
"Only if I knew anyone in Gotham." she says with a soft sigh, glancing about before she meets his gaze as a coy smirk curls onto her lips.

"I haven't found a place yet. I was just staying at a hotel. You know, one of those extended stay ones with a small kitchenette and whatnot." Because that's what she could really afford without attracting any suspicion.

"And like any big city there are shady parts. You think you could tell me which parts to stay out of and which parts are okay? Or maybe even give a tour of the city?" she asks somewhat hopefully.

Jason Todd has posed:
Jason Todd nods, "Moving to a new location without anyone you already know is very difficult. Or a job.." he glances at her again. "Extended stay aren't bad, but yeah.. the cost can add up quickly I've heard."

Sipping again at his almost finished drink he looks thoughtful. "You've done clerical work you said? Anything else?" he asks as if trying to think of possible job leads.

"Yeah, there are a lot of places to avoid after dark. Some it's best to avoid during the day, for that matter." Setting his cup down he nods, "Sure? I'd be happy to show you around the city sometime this week. I guess one good thing - if you're used to Manhattan weather, Gotham is pretty much identical so you can have some idea of what to expect."

Roxanne Spaulding has posed:
What does a girl who has been on the run have in terms of skills? "Well, I mean, I've -danced- before and bartended." As to what kind of dancing? She leaves it to him reading in between the lines. "I make a mean martini."

There has to be bars in Gotham she could work at, right?

Somewhat surprised that he took her request for the tour, she ahhhs as she says where she's staying. Hrmming for a few moments, she decides to pull out her phone and hands it to him, "You can put your number there as well, and I can let you know when I'm available?"

Jason Todd has posed:
Jason Todd doesn't pry into it. He can guess based on her lack of specificity.

"There are a lot of good bars and clubs in Gotham. Plenty that aren't, of course."

When she says the place she's staying he nods. "That's not a bad part of the city really. Good choice."

Looking shocked as she hands him her phone, he begins adding a contact for himself. Jason Todd. He chooses to omit his second last name, that being 'Wayne'. That one tends to come with a lot more attention. And baggage.

"Though you should probably not trust strange guys you've just met. Even if they ask you for advice and offer baskets of treats in payment.." he smiles a little, teasing.

"I keep my own hours. Just about any time during the day after 11am should work for me. Just let me know."

Roxanne Spaulding has posed:
"Well, most untrustworthy guys that I've met so far don't offer a gift basket of sundries, so... I figure why not?"

Roxie laughs as she lets her gaze wash over him once more. She bites on her lower lip now that she's finished her latte as she ahhhs and nods at the mention of hours.

"So, do you have plans for the rest of the night?" she wonders, somewhat curious, and somewhat hinting that perhaps she'd like to do more than just have coffee.

Jason Todd has posed:
Jason Todd dips his head, "That's probably true."

He stares at his cup a moment. A certain Red Hood needs to be out tracking down leads. But that won't be until much later.

He looks back to her, meeting her gaze, "Not really." He pauses, "I'll need to get home before too late or my cat will be ready to murder me for not being present to restock his food dish.." Smiling wryly, he explains "If you've ever seen a Maine Coon cat that is 'starving' ", yes it was complete with air quotes, "then you know what I mean. If not? It's about like wrestling a grizzly bear that just came out of hibernation and is looking to eat anything it can fit in its mouth."

Roxanne Spaulding has posed:
"Well how about this? I can give you a text on another evening and you can tell me if you're free and we can do something. Promise me you'll let me treat you though."

With a bow of her head, she ahhhs and nods at the mention of having to feed a cat at home. "Cats are demanding, but I'm a needy bitch, so I prefer dogs. Cats only want to cuddle on their time. Dogs will cuddle you whenever." Roxie says with a silly little smile on her features.

"But if you want, I can let you get back to your cat. I should probably get back to the hotel before it gets too late anyway."

Jason Todd has posed:
Jason Todd laughs. "We're all needy bitches in one way or another" he admits. "Church will survive for a while. He isn't at risk of starvation in this century. He's just 20 pounds of fluff and and arrogance balled up in a four foot nose to tail frame."

Handing back her phone after entering his contact info, he considers, "It's not too late. Church can survive a while longer without his midnight snack. Do you like retro arcade games? There's a bar not too far from here that has a room of old 1980's games and another with every generation of home console." He then adds with smug pride, "I'm unbeaten on Mario Kart 64." Then he looks at her with a playfully dismissive challenge, "Don't see that changing any time soon for that matter. I could give you a ride back to the hotel - now or a bit later?"
