Cast of Characters: Olivia Gaudin, Dinah Lance

Olivia Gaudin has posed:
It's evening, the Thursday night show has finished, and it was successful. Honestly the team is getting much better, and the not-so-casual work-in of the new actor for the Glinda role is really taking off.

With most of the theater emptied out, though, Olivia does her usual thing. She shows up in costume (as Elphaba, the Wicked Witch of the West) near the front doors of the theater. There's the usual squeal of excited fans, the autographs, and the selfies.

Eventually, though, Olivia is just left to her own devices, and she finds herself lingering near the front entrance. It's rare for her to be able to stand here without having at least a few people still wanting to talk or get an autograph.

"So... this is what it sounds like to just be here," she murmurs to herself. And to her, sound is everything. It is a second sight for her now.

Dinah Lance has posed:
Dinah Lance hums softly as she was there at the show, nodding. She loves this theater - the acoustics in it are incredible - she'd love to see what a well-aimed Canary Cry could do in here... she could get some crazy amplification but it might just literally bring the roof down. She then finally gets up, and starts to wander out. She nods to the 'witch', smiling. She should've brought Zatanna with her. But maybe that'd be offensive to her magical friend. "Great show - you have an awesome voice. I'm quite a fan of singing myself."

Olivia Gaudin has posed:
Olivia was distracted, but with her vision and sensitivity as they are, she is only slightly startled. A little jump, then a warm smile and laughter. "Hello! And thank you so much!" She offers a hand, "I'm Olivia. Just don't tell the kids, they don't know that I'm not real."

She grins playfully, her nose wrinkling as she lets out a little laugh. If there is such a thing as pure happiness, it is found in her. "Ohhh, you love to sing?" She's got an idea, and it is obvious. "Have you ever gotten to sing on a Broadway stage before?"

Dinah Lance has posed:
Dinah Lance nods slowly. "Yeah... I like to sing. Never made a career out of it. I actualy own a flower shop - it takes a lot of my time. With a delightfully punny name - Sherwood Florist." She grins. "I couldn't commit to being in a play - but I bet I could do it well if I had the time."

Olivia Gaudin has posed:
"Well, let's see how you like it! The whole set is still up, and the crew will likely be in a meeting discussing things as usual."

Olivia offers a hand. "Sherwood Florist! That's wonderful! I hope you have someone named Robin working for you!" A pause as Olivia realizes something. "Sorry, what is your name? I must have missed it." Or maybe it wasn't said?

Dinah Lance has posed:
Dinah Lance smiles. "I'm Dinah Lance, and I work alone. I've always been a fan of Robin Hood - but 'Robin' these days kinda has a different meaning - especially since I live in Gotham City..." She shrugs as she heads towards the front. "But I'm just wearing street clothes - I'm not fancy enough to be on the stage..." she muses. She treats this seriously.

Olivia Gaudin has posed:
"Oh yes, that is fair. Gotham's Robin is quite a different matter altogether. As for the clothes, well, we all start our stage careers singing out of costume. When I came to try for Moulin Rouge I was dressed... very informally." She laughs softly, shaking her head. "When you want to make it on stage, you have to be fearless."

She leads the way, clearly delighted at this entire little idea. Though she passes several ushers and even the director, nobody questions what she's about. Star privilege, it seems, gets her what she wants in this case.

"Sadly the orchestra is probably gone, but I do have an idea, if you want some instrumental accompaniment."

Dinah Lance has posed:
Dinah Lance smiles softly as she follows serenely, not sure how she ended up on stage. "Whoa - it looks so cool from here..." she murmurs. "So... what role do you want me to play? My voice is VERY talented - I am very flexible." She then lowers her voice, and in an EXACT imitation of you, states, "Very flexible."

Olivia Gaudin has posed:
That little demonstration gets a laugh from Olivia. "Okay, now that is a neat trick! But let's have the real you. How about we start with my favorite: For Good. You can play the role of Glinda. Oh, let me get something quick!"

She will dart off stage for a moment. She bothers a member of the crew and moments later she's coming back with a music stand. Add a few more seconds and the sheet music for the song is run over to her as well.

"There, now we can be on the same page!" She thinks this is a great joke, indeed. "I love singing, and this song is special."

Dinah Lance has posed:
Dinah Lance hums happily as she looks at the sheet music. Oh right - it's been a while since she's read sheet music. "I'm a biiiiiit rusty on sheet music - I'll need a bit of time to get used to it - so busy running a business I don't get to do anything formal - I just sing becuase I enjoy it..."

Olivia Gaudin has posed:
"Oh don't be nervous at all," says Olivia. "If you focus on what you heard sung, I'm sure you'll be okay. Plus, this is one of the last songs. That's part of why I think it is a good choice."

She will hum a few notes, to help Dinah make the jump from paper to sound. Liv is kind of a human pitch pipe in this case, and she rather suspects that Dinah will be more than a quick study based on what she's seen.

Once things seem good (and Dinah gets wired up with a mic for the authentic experience), they can get started for real. Since the song starts with her part, it provides a bit more of a baseline to help go from written notes to sung notes.

Dinah Lance has posed:
Dinah Lance nods as she hums along in pretty good harmony with Olivia. This woman has preternatural vocal talents, she suspects - not that Dinah can say much after all. "Okay - let's try this," she states as she waits for Olivia to start - she thinks she's ready. She remembers the song - the sheet music has the words which is all she really needs.

Olivia Gaudin has posed:
Olivia has now sung this song thousands of times. But she doesn't just sing the notes; she is an actress, and she does the part. She wants Dinah to get a taste of what it would be like to take on the role of Glinda. In this song that involves a lot of eye contact, complex expressions of fondness, the love of dear friends, and the bittersweet nature of a farewell. The lyric of "It well may be // that we will never meet again in this lifetime" crystalize the pain and appreciation of this moment.

Throughout it all, the two voices meld as if they had done this dozens of times together. From a purely vocal standpoint, it is clear that Dinah is a special talent. Olivis imagines, though, that she will not be able to convince this new friend to try to make a career out of it. If she wanted that, she'd already have done so.

When they are finished, Olivia will lead her back to the front door and say a kind farewell. And provide Dinah with her card. Not the one with the agent information, but with her personal contact information on it.

"If you wanted to be on the stage, you could be there. I suspect, though, that you have other things you want to do. However... any time you'd like to sing, please let me know. I have a feeling Karaoke with you would be truly an epic experience, and I love your voice! Please call me."
