Profile
Olivia (aka Vital Signs) is a young Broadway star who dedicates her free time to charity work and meeting as many people as she can. She has a widely-recognized face and voice in New York and beyond. When it comes to her super human life, she is a rather niche player with a variety of powers related to sound. Her role is focused on support, both in the field for search and rescue and as a sympathetic ear with those she cares about.
Timeline
Timeline:
1999 - On Christmas Day, Olivia Marie Gaudin was born in Metropolis. Thank you, mom (Miriel Bastine) and dad (Francois Gaudin)!
2005 - Olivia begins private music lessons (vocals, violin, and piano).
2006 - Olivia had her first credited appearance as 'cheerful caroling child' in one of those heart-warming, made-for-television romances. She begins taking dance lessons (ballet and jazz).
2007 - Olivia adds acting classes to her very busy schedule.
2012 - She goes to school in France, perfecting her French and studying vocal music, dance (ballet, jazz, and tap), and instrumental music (violin and piano).
2014 - In the late spring, she returns to Metropolis. She is home schooled, taught by several private teachers who focus her efforts on music and dance.
2018 - Olivia moves to New York City and attends The Juilliard School.
2020 - She starts to audition and lands several brief stints in smaller roles.
2021 - Olivia earns her Bachelor of Arts In Music. She immediately enrolls in graduate studies at The Juilliard School. She also lands her first steady rolls on Broadway as an understudy (as Nini, in Moulin Rouge).
2023 - She graduates with her Master of Arts in Music and for the first time, wins a headline role as Elphaba in Wicked.

Personality
Calm:
Olivia is a firm believer that "the show must go on" and like many of her fellow performers, faces adversity with steady focus. Never one to leap into action, she knows the value of slowing things down long enough to make the right decision. This trait extends into her personal life. She takes bad news rather well and focused on what she can control.
Compassionate:
While Olivia's upbringing rarely left her wanting for anything, her parents made a point to expose her to the plight of others. Her father sent her on missionary trips to several South American countries. This taught her to care for the challenges normal people face, even if she is not always aware of what those challenges might be.
Extroverted:
Always one to enjoy conversation, Olivia not only likes to speak with others (friends, fans, and strangers alike!) she also has a way of making the other person the focus of conversation.

Powers
Auditory Processing:
As part of the changes brought about by her transformation, Olivia's brain was altered, allowing it to analyze tens of thousands of sounds simultaneously. It is this change that supports all of her sound powers. From her echolocation to super hearing, it all happens here. Because of this, Olivia can sort through sounds as far as two miles away in a few seconds, able to detect a specific voice or sound with ease. She can hear a whisper as far as two miles away, less if there are obstructions like buildings or walls in the way.
Blowhole:
One of the more dubious benefits Olivia's transformation is one she tries hard to conceal. While she can still breath through her mouth and nose, she realized one day that she had a hole atop her head that she could breathe through. Airhead references aside, it is actually a blowhole which is rather handy when swimming. It also is remarkably efficient at filliing her lungs with breaths that last just a fraction of a second. It's not so handy in other ways.
Breathing:
Olivia's internal organs have mutated, allowing her to hold her breath for extraordinary amounts of time. While fully active (even underwater) she needs to surface for air once every 15 minutes. Avoiding exertion (even underwater) allows her to extend this time to 30 minutes between breaths.
Cold Resistance:
Like an ocean mammal, Olivia's mutations allow her to comfortably handle temperatures down to 28F without protection. This includes handling even the coldest of ocean waters and glacial melt.
Echolocation:
To a distance of about 200m (2000m in water or similar fluids), Olivia can use both passive and active sonar to determine the shape of objects around her. Depending on the sound dampening of materials, this may allow her to see through walls and other barriers. Beyond the larger effects of this kind of sensory power, Olivia can focus active sonar into something like ultrasound, allowing her to detect densities and density changes in an object. She could, for instance, help a doctor find a bullet or other small fragments in a body. It would not allow her to do miraculous things like detect poisons. Naturally, she also cannot tell the color of objects.
Pressure Resistance:
Due to her cetacean mutations, Olivia can dive to great depths without special equipment. She can comfortably descend 1200m under the water (roughly 120 atmospheres).
Sleepless:
Olivia's powers bring to her unusual features common to cetaceans. She can rest part of her brain at a time, which allows her to sleep while she is fully aware of her surroundings. In effect, this means she never sleeps in the way normal people do and can never be caught napping.
Super Hearing:
Vital Signs has super hearing which allows her to detect whispers from two miles away. See "+pow Olivia/Auditory Processing" for more details related to discerning specific sounds. Louder sounds in favorable environments can be detected from farther away (like whale song in the ocean). The resolution of her hearing is superbly detailed. She can tell the difference between the sounds of different shoes. She also can hear across a greater range of sounds than normal human beings, which allows her to hear to very deep and very high frequencies. She really hates dog whistles!
Underwater Movement:
Olivia's mutation has made her far more agile beneath the waves. She swiftly turns, dives, and surfaces. Her top speed is 15 mph.
Vocal Range:
While some singers may boast many octaves of range (Vital Signs naturally could produce sound across three), her powers allow her to produce sounds far beyond the human range of hearing. She uses the same organ that supports her echolocation to generate sounds that are both extremely low frequency or extremely high frequency. This allows her to communicate to those with super hearing without expelling air or showing any sign of doing so.
Skills
Dance:
Olivia started her dance lessons at the age of six. She is extremely skilled in jazz and ballet. She also is quite good with tap. These skills are all related to her roles on Broadway.
Flexibility:
As part of dance, Olivia trains her flexibility. She is not the kind of contortionist who might garner attention at Cirque du Soleil, but she is very skilled, able to do the splits and contort herself into just about any yoga pose there is.
Instrumental Music:
Olivia has trained with the violin and piano since she was five years old. She has a master's degree in music. While she doesn't use these skills on Broadway, she has given impromptu concerts to promote the show and often is invited to play during public appearances.
Physical Fitness:
With a job that demands both an appealling physical form and often includes physically demanding roles, Olivia stays in excellent shape. She trains regularly, following the guidance provided to her by fitness experts.
Singing:
Olivia has trained in vocal music since she was five years old. She has a graduate degree in musical performance and now headlines a Broadway musical. She has a mezzo-soprano voice.
Swimming:
One of Olivia's favorite ways to stay in shape is swimming. She uses this exercise to also train her breath, making her able to sustain long notes and hold her breath for considerable amounts of time (see +pow Olivia/Breathing). Her mutant powers have made her grace and speed under the waves superhuman in nature (see +pow Olivia/Underwater Movement).

Broadway Star:
Olivia is rather new to Broadway, but being a headliner during a special season of Wicked has brought with it considerable media coverage. She's quickly become a recognized star and she has both talent and charisma to make interviews and appearances well worth a sponsor's time.
Reputation:
While Olivia has not been on Broadway for long, her family's regular support of charities in Metropolis and her own willingness to lend her talents to fund raisers has built her a positive reputation. She's seen as a kind heart who cares a great deal about children, musical education, and cute animals.
Wealthy:
Between her job, appearances, and her family's support, Olivia is quite well to do. She has a nice condo in Manhattan and has enough money to vacation in nice places a couple times a year. She does not own a vehicle of her own. She has the nice electronics, clothing, and the instruments one might expect of her, but nothing that isn't available to other wealthy people. Her net worth is estimated to be 1.5 million dollars (much of it courtesy of her family).
Weaknesses
Famous:
Olivia is recognizable due to the media blitz promoting her appearance in Wicked. This shows no sign of stopping, as part of the anniversary celebrations include major media attention, with interviews and appearances that are broadcast across the United States.
Fangirl:
Olivia is likely to embarass herself as she is a huge fan of many super heroes. She doesn't admit her favorite too often, but her dressing room does seem to have a lot of Superman memorabilia in it. In a few interviews she's admitted leaving two tickets at the 'will call' for a certain hero. Just in case they might drop by. The tickets, it is rumored, have always gone unused.
Innocent:
While Olivia is aware that people do bad things, her upbringing has left her oblivious to many of the dangers of society. She tends to trust people a bit too easily. In business dealings, her agent and her father are regularly involved, making sure she doesn't agree to something she'll regret later.
Just a Girl:
While Olivia does keep herself fit, she has no superhuman strength, body armor, or regenerative powers.
No Combat Skills:
Olivia's impressive education included many things, but self defense and martial arts were not part of the curriculum. She did get a bit of training for minor stunt work, as this is sometimes required in theater. When it comes to facing criminals in a fight, though, she is unprepared.
Sound Sensitivity:
Sudden increases in sound levels can cause Olivia considerable discomfort. She can adjust in a few seconds, but due to the considerable range of her hearing, this can still be problematic. Explosions, high speed crashes, and sonic booms cause her issues. A jet or super hero breaking the sound barrier can bother her from as far as 50 miles away. Closer and louder just makes it even more difficult. Sonic attacks in her vicinity can be expected to have amplified effects, ranging from extreme vertigo to unconciousness (even if the attack isn't directed at her).
