Mutants and Muffins
Date of Scene: 25 May 2024
Location: Fred's Diner
Synopsis: Bobby and Doll meet, swapping talk about what it means to be a mutant and enjoying a little snacks.
Cast of Characters: Bobby Lane, Doll

Bobby Lane has posed:
Bobby is not quite re-learning himself, but now he knows where everything stands. A lot of questions in his life have been answered. More have risen and they all stem from NY. He's in "new" city and his last bit of familiarity is gone. Yeah, new friends and ties will need to be done. But, Freefall was a guide at the very least. She was a lot more. That's why some of the answers sting.

And so that's how he found himself at a diner. Not quite needing to drown his sorrows. However, aimlessness brought him here. What kept him here is the food. He's hungry and the place smells good.

He'd rather rely on diners than anything fancy. So, Fred's doesn't look like a bad place to wander into. He'll take up a booth. Dressed black leather coat, one that's simple with very little accents to it. The buttons and zipper are a muted black. Underneath that is a white t-shirt with red letters sprawled across that says "Lacuna Coil." And it's just simple jeans and sneakers from there. The man doesn't stand out, but Bobby doesn't fade into the background either.

Sitting there, he sips at a coke while debating on what to eat.

Doll has posed:
% New York wasn't particularly 'new' to Doll, even if she did travel quite a bit. After all, her recent less-than-legal hyjinx that saw an anti-mutant weapons lab get raided and a little (completely) trashed thanks to the timely arrival of the Juggernaut had been quite profitable and more importantly: fun. Today however, she was keeping things simple: she was getting a meal, for the moment, just the one of her anyway.

Dressed in her 'civvies' in the form of a pair of leggings under a skirt and a currently zipped up bright pink hoodie jacket, the brunette mutant makes her way into the space of the diner. If Bobby was being subtle? Well Doll herself didn't seem to follow that same path as she rather excitedly made her way over to the glass of the desserts display.

Bobby Lane has posed:
"Nice hoodie," Bobby says honestly as his booth isn't too far from her. He just appreciates the contrast. Those green eyes of his slip back to the menus. Running his fingers back through sunflower colored locks. His gaze runs over the options.

Another sip of the soda. "I'm gonna find that place that odes it oooooolllllldddd school," he says to himself. He's just curious. Plus, it's one of the few touristy things he could do that didn't make him stand out.

Doll has posed:
A blink from where she leans and Doll grins, looking back over her shoulders at the source of the voice before gesturing to try and draw the waitress' attention. "Cherry please? And a hot cocoa with extra marshmellows?" Warmer weather be damned, Doll clearly liked her sweets.

Turning back to face Boby as he spoke she nods, gesturing to the garment lightly. "It's pretty comfortable, and it matches my hairties!

Ties she wasn't wearing, but she wasn't going to let that stop her.

Well, maybe another 'Her' was wearing it somewhere. It was hard for anyone -but- Doll to keep track after all.

Bobby Lane has posed:
Burnout refrains from making a "Warrant" reference. "Hey, function will always be fashionable." Bobby says thinking comfort is a big factor. He has no clue about the dolls, but does notice there are no hairties.

"What happened to the hairties?" it's the only question he can think of without seeing a shirt, or hearing a bit of conversation. Who knows? Maybe the simple question can lead somewhere.

Doll has posed:
"Oh! Forgot to put them on, then some other girl took them." Casual theft? Not really, but most people don't expect the person they were talking to to be some sort of duplicating mutant. "Thought they looked cute on her too I guess." Giggling lightly at the the thought though the joke was unlikely to be shared unless Bobby was a telepath. "What about you? Lurking or waiting for someone?"

Whatever his answer was, she does pause as her drink was delivered to her, bringing a little joyful noise of excitement.

"I've been craving this all day."

Bobby Lane has posed:
"Who took them? Why would they stela them? They're just hairties?" Bobby seems perplexed. He wonders a few things about how and where. Then there's a pause at that giggle. Like something funny happened, but he wasn't present at that meeting.

And Bobby fights off a sigh, "Nope. On my own. Officially," he shrugs a little bit. "What did you get?" he nods to the drink. "Celebrating something?" Bobby's brow raises again as he's curious about that.

Doll has posed:
"Mhmm!" Doll offers, nodding lightly and gesturing with a little flick of her finger towards the window to draw his attention. "What do you think?"

Sure enough, there was Doll...-another- Doll, albeit this one with her hair pulled into two tails courtesy of her bright pink hairties that had been described. Maybe this obnoxiously happy girl had a twin with good timing as she waved right at the moment she was pointed out...before continuing to walk on down the street.

"Celebrating, but I wasn't sure what I wanted so...decided to try a few things."

Bobby Lane has posed:
Pause. Bobby sees a twin of Doll. then he looks at the girl, "Twin?" Bobby's making sure this isn't some kind of illusion. A lot of people have a lot of different skills. He's making sure this is natural twin stuff and nothing else.

"Well, what are we celebrating? And what are you going to get -after- the pie," that has him curious. "Name's Bobby by the way," he'll offer a hand, not sure if anyone's huggy or what. This is neutral. This is safe.

Doll has posed:
Well, it didn't seem to be an illusion, unless Doll was making a point to make an illusion stopping and talking to one of the street venders outside. "Kinda?" she answers his comment on the twin. Again seemingly amused by what she -hadn't- explained, Doll instead gestures to the pie with her spoon, making a delighted noise as she took her first bite once it was served and taking the handshake still muffled by her food.

"A payday is what I'm celebrating. A little splurging at the moment!" What was she eating? Well, she grins and considers. "Right now? Well, there's a hotdog outside...a noodle place a few blocks over and...I think I'm making cookies back home."

A beat, she shrugs. "Lily," she offers in introduction returned before grinning. "But most know me as 'Doll'."

Not so strange to have two names, at least not in mutant town.

Bobby Lane has posed:
Bobby looks at her as he hears the words, "Kind of." Words like that have strings. And that's when he listens to everything. So, thinking he understands it all. "You're a hive mind? Multiple entities connected to a whole?" He's thinking they're some kind of twins maybe. If he went to Xaiver's he would point to the Cuckoos.

Because in hsi mind she's doing all those things right now, yet one part of her. One mind was here," and then he looks at Lilly. "Why doll? Because you look like a 'Doll.' Meant in that old Hollywood way," Bobby clarifies. He wonders if it could be a codename. For now, he doesn't push because that might be hitting a nerve for Doll.

Doll has posed:
He got it! The understanding of her less-than-subtle hints had her grinning as she mimed a little applause. "Well done," she offers before shrugging her shoulders. "Something like that. Sometimes there's one of me, sometimes there's more, but we're all 'Me'. There just gets to be a lot of me! A 'Doll collection'!" Perhaps a hint to one of the possible origins of her name, she pauses to sip her drink. "Does it freak you out a little bit?"

Bobby Lane has posed:
Bobby figured the less than subtle hints meant something grander. However, one cannot be too careful in these matters. Not everyone is completelyopen about powers and mutation. It's a loaded subject, even in todays' day and age.

"Is thinking different when there's just one," he'll get up and move closer to her. Even if it's just temporarily, Bobby will just take in more of Doll's features. He'll even touch the coffee cup holding the hot chocolate.

"Doesn't bother me," and that's when the hot chocolate is noticeably warmer than before. Like possibly burned her mouth warmer.

Doll has posed:
"Yes...and no. Think of it like...streaming," Doll offers, grinning as she leans forwards. "I can follow what another 'me' is doing, thinking, feeling or tasting...or 'minimize' it so I don't, unless the other me really needs to. At least until we all sort of 'upload' it back to being just one me. With all of the memories and experiences."

She pauses, blinking at the touch to her mug only to give a little squeek as she does indeed nearly burn her lips.

"Oh! Neat...well that makes sense."

Being a mutant or meta did tend to improve one's acceptance of 'weird'.

Bobby Lane has posed:
"That's interesting," he's almost jealous of that. All the knoweldge and experiences. That's kind of tempting to have that ability. He sips at his own drink for a moment.

"So, what happens if you ever date someone? Do the other expierence things? What happens if one gets hurt?" he starts to ask questions trying to learn more about Doll's ability. How she could do it all. It's a fascinating thing.

Doll has posed:
"Like I said, it's a filter. We can feel it if we want to feel it, or if the one version of me really wants the others to feel it...which is kinda the same thing. Sometimes it might catch us off-guard I suppose, but like..." she touches a hand to her lip where she'd burned herself a little. "Only this -me- feels it."

A beat, she tilts her head to the side with a smirk. "As for if I date someone? Well...I suppose they'd be busy."

Bobby Lane has posed:
A brow raises on that ominous question. Bobby smirks as he is both curious, and maybe partially afraid of the answer.

"Sorry for the twenty questions. You're fasciating. Well, one of the more fascinating people I've met since coming to New York. Maybe the most," it's just that power she could do so much in his view. She's almost a marvle, ro a modern wonder, Even by mutant standards she's a marvel.

"Tell me something else about yourself, call me curious," he says and goes between his own order and her.

Doll has posed:
And Doll -did- do lots with that power, but not all of it was legal. Giving a little cautious sip of her drink and a little shiver of delight as she does indeed 'taste' something that another her was enjoying elsewhere. Sometimes some of the stuff she did was just for her own enjoyment after all! His words brings a little grin. "Flaterer...but this city is full of plenty of weird and wonderful. That's what makes it so fun..."

Something about her, she smirks that that. "Something about me...lets see..."

A beat, she seems to pause for a waitress to arrive...only it wasn't a waitress, but instead another 'Doll' who moved up, placing another muffin at her plate and sharing a grin.

The double leaned in, planting a little peck on the first Doll's cheek before she turned to look at Bobby, a little fingerwave given as she answered the question asked of the first. "I couldn't decided between chocolate chip and raspberry."

Bobby Lane has posed:
"That's not flattery. That's me being an honest. Flattery is thicke," Bobby grins as he looks at Doll. His green eyes focus on her for a moment. "And the weirdness in New York isn't actly a bad thing.

He gives a wave to the new Doll that's on the scene. He hates to admit how interesting he finds this indiivdual. To him it's the first time he's marveled at a power, much like normal people admire flight. IT seems so unreal.

"That's..." his words trail thinking of the words. "People would kill for that power," it's something he knows a lot of people that kidnapped him wished they had access to.

Doll has posed:
"Grasses are always greener I suppose. I can't stop a speeding train, fly through the sky but..." Doll 1 begins before Doll 2 finishes the sentence, "I have plenty of fun."

She moves, bending down to take a sip from the first Doll's mug before she seems to vanish in a little flash of sparkling air, returned to the 'Single' Doll it seems.

"And people would kill for most power...that's what power does to lots of people."

Bobby Lane has posed:
"I know people would point that out," Bobby tries pushing aside a shiver. A past memory being around that kind of people.

And seeing the process how they went from multiple to "Single." Bobby just stares. "That'll never stop being incredible. Not as incredible as the wielder though," and Bobby knows -that- is flattery.

There are so many questions and because of those, Bobby isn't questioning any alternative motives, and uses, for that power. Green eyes just watching her as he gathers up all of those questions.

Doll has posed:
A wink at that, only the faint hint of lip-gloss left on the rim of the mug suggesting that the other Doll had been here a moment ago. With the new muffin lifted to take a bite for herself, there was another little noise of enjoyment. A little sensory hedonism perhaps, but well...if you could be in so many places at once for so long, wouldn't you want to experience as much as possible?

Elsewhere, across town from this pleasent conversation and enjoyable food tasting, another Doll wasn't wrapped in the same pink hoodie and skirt. Instead, this Doll had her hair tied back as she made to zip up the moulded catsuit, securing the tools of her trade on her person as she awaited on the rooftop over her next score.

After all, celebration wasn't enough to leave her idle!

Back in the diner, she sips her drink once more. Still grinning to herself.

Bobby Lane has posed:
Bobby is utterly clueless of everything she's doing. He's just happy to have this Doll's attention. "Next time you want to go out for a drink or anything, ask. I wouldn't mind running into you." Bobby hears the noises and he thinks one of the other dolls is doing something fun.

Would he be open to her activities? Probably not all of them. He would be fascinated with everything. Someone can be curious, even if there is something going on with the ethical
