- Mary Bromfield has posed:
Normally, you don't have an internet streamer coming to the Themyscrian Embassy, let alone being able to land an appointment. However, when said streamer is the Chosen representative of Seven goddesses, one of whom happens to be the Queen of Paradise Island?
Well, that takes care of a /lot/ of red tape really fast.
So it is that Mary Bromfield found herself stepping into the lobby of the Embassy. Unlike most times, she actually is wearing a rather nice green dress, something a bit more appropriate for a visit to this place than jeans and a T-shirt. After introducing herself to the receptionist, an aide came over, and escorted the brunette over towards Diana's office, showing her in. Leaving Mary to glance around curiously, taking in the room with her eyes as she always wanted to come here, but never had the opportunity before...
- Diana Prince has posed:
Mary was escorted through the interior of what was once a New York City mayor's mansion. It has been converted in to the themysciran home here in the United States, and its aesthetic certainly yields a combination of old New York, and Themysciran culture infused together.
From the main foyer, Mary was brought to the Princess' office doors, where she was ushered in, and summarily received by Diana herself.
The Princess is dressed in a deep burgandy sweater, black slacks, and a pair of black heeled boots. Her dark hair is tied back, and she's wearing a small gold chain around her neck that dangles a ruby gem just over the collar of her sweater. She has a light amount of makeup on, and a smile appears on her lips when Mary is brought in.
"Why, hello. Welcome, welcome. I hope you made the trip over easily?" She asked, as she moved to offer her right hand to Mary, her height a couple inches over six feet in her elevated boots. "Come in, come in. Would you like something to drink?" She asked, a hand motioning toward the small kitchenette loaded with many visible bottles of all manner of drinks. "We have... most things, I think. It is a very, random, selection." She said, laughing softly for just a second.
"How are you?" She asked, her naturally husky voice laced with a friendly undertone.
- Mary Bromfield has posed:
Mary smiles, "Well, I'll have whatever you're having, really... thanks for having me over, Diana. We haven't had much of a chance to talk, well..." She pauses, and blushes a bit, "Ever, honestly. And, um... considering my recent power changes, and when we fought together on Vega, I thought it might be a good idea to change that."
She smiles over at Diana, though there's a hint of weariness in her expression, "And I've been well, pushed myself a bit hard in evacuating Tamaron, but I managed to get a lot of people relayed through the Rock to New Themyscira." Not enough, she doesn't say, but her eyes look haunted enough that she doesn't /have/ to say it. It still clearly weighs on her, as she shakes her head slightly, giving Diana a warmer expression, looking up at the taller Amazon. "Been taking it a bit easy since, making sure I've recovered my full strength back before going back into the fray."
- Diana Prince has posed:
A reserved smile touches Diana's crimson toned lips. she motioned toward the set of leather furniture in the center of the room, her desk on the left side of it, in front of the windows, while on the right side her famous armor sat on a display stand beneath a series of small lights that made it gleam beneath their golden rays.
"Have a seat." She said to the young woman, before she stepped to the kitchenette, and prepared them both a glass of ice tea. "You have lead a rather impressive journey through your youth, Mary. I have witnessed a very small portion of it from the sidelines, and I have admired what I have seen of how you perform under such terrible pressures..." Diana stated, as she got both glasses ready. Set upon a tray. She carried them to the table that sat between the fine pieces of leather furniture, and she offered Mary one of the two glasses.
"I hope you have been decompressing well since the Vega incident. It... and many similar since... have been a bit harrowing, to say the very least."
Diana settled down on the edge of the leather sofa, and reached for her own cup of tea.
"What types of changes have you been undertaking, if I might ask?" She inquired, her husky voice calm in tone, and thick with her Themysciran accent, that adds a touch of foreign origins to her presence here in the United States.
- Mary Bromfield has posed:
Mary's voice, in contrast, is pure Philadelphia born and bred, though she does her best to mask the accent in comparison to that perfect voice that Diana has. She can't help but feel a little self-conscious in comparison though... well, if she were Thunderbolt she wouldn't have any issues with it, but she made a point of coming here without the Goddesses directly backing her.
And speaking of Goddesses, she looks over at Diana as she lifts her own cup of tea, "Well, the Wizard, he sensed I wasn't exactly... happy, with the Gods that were empowering me. So he offered me a chance to vie for the favor of those that might suit me better. It was a risk, since I wouldn't have /any/ powers, and if I wasn't worthy, then I wouldn't get them back." A small shrug, as she felt that it was apparently worth it, as the deities for her brothers weren't quite appropriate for her.
"So I faced his trials, and I proved myself worthy for six goddesses and heroines, who gave me the powers anew. One of them you might be familiar with, as a matter of fact." Her eyes twinkle a little bit as she regards Diana, sipping from the tea cup as she adds, "The Strength of Hippolyta." A smile quirks her lips, as she can't quite help herself with that.
- Diana Prince has posed:
It should not be a huge surprise that information along these kinds of lines will draw out a reaction from the Themysciran Princess. It is her mother, afterall, who just got a name drop. It causes Diana to tilt her head, her loose pony tail to dangle and swing behind her shoulders lightly at the motion, as she stares at the sparkling eyes of the young woman across from her. It takes a moment, but she does summon a half smirk at the revelation. "Is that so?" She asks, in an almost playful style to the edges of her voice. She gently shakes her chin from right to left, as she takes it based on word alone, because she has seen Mary in action, so to speak.
"Well, I am even more impressed by your very being, Mary." Diana adds further, as she straightens her head, but raises her pointed chin ever so slightly.
"Was this, before, or after the events on Vega? You have had a chance to speak with my mother face to face?" She further asks, holding her cup of tea above her knees, cupped in her left hand and held by the handle by the tips of her right's fingers.
- Mary Bromfield has posed:
Mary smiles a little, "Before Vega, but we haven't had much of a chance to talk before, or after. I wanted to mention it, but... well, it isn't as though we had much free time." She looks a bit sheepish about the revelation, "Though she hasn't communicated with me face-to-face, I do get messages from her, and the other goddesses as well. Selene, Athena, Zorya, Artemis, Mnemosyne. Depending on the situation, one or the other will give me advice on a situation I'm facing, though when I'm not Thunderbolt... well, then they're more in the background." Which might be part of the reason she's here like this. She wanted to talk to Diana as Mary, without Diana thinking that she had other voices giving her advice. Or possibly listening.
- Diana Prince has posed:
Diana took a small sip of tea from the cup in her hands, before she leaned forward, and gently deposited it back on to the silver tray that she left atop the coffee table between them. She kept her eyes focused on Mary's face, as she listened intently to the young woman's tale. She nodded her head gently to what she was told, and showed another faint smile at the naming of all of those various Goddess'. She drew in a breath, and stopped herself, then glanced to her desk, where she let her gaze linger for a moment, before it darted back over to the young woman across from her.
"Should you wish time on Themyscira, to speak with my mother, or to take in whatever you need to aid you in this journey that you are on... you only ever need to ask me, Mary." She offered, both passage to Themyscira and the knowledge to know that she was here for her, to help.
"these trials that you successfully made it through? They truly were a test of your ability, both in mind, and body, and you clearly achieved the good blessing of many harsh judges, believe you me..." She said, her voice hinting at the weight of her words, as she held her palms together over her lap, her back still straight, showcasing her etiquette as a representitive of Themyscira, and the daughter to the very mentor Mary has taken on.
"Are you... in good form, in the immediate?" She asked, lowering her chin a little again. "You are not in any immediate discomforts, or urgency for any manner of answers to questions you may have?"
- Mary Bromfield has posed:
Mary smiles, "I should be asking /you/ that. I mean, you're the one that got hit with that sucker punch from Terrax. Jerk that he is." And that's when the Philly comes out a bit, in her vernacular, something a bit more akin to how Cassie might talk as she gestures a bit with her free hand. Then she smiles, "I'm... well, Marie has been helping a lot with things, as she always does. I'd love to bring her along on a trip to visit the Island though. It just always seems so peaceful there, especially in comparison to the world here." She gestures outside to New York City proper, then takes another sip of the excellent tea.
"But I appreciate your words, Diana, really. And your faith. Though how have you been? I know that you're always out there for other people, but sometimes that means that you don't have anyone for you to talk with about things." And Mary does look at Diana with some concern at that, because... well, two things. One, she's used to being a mother bear for her foster sibs. And two, well, it's not unreasonable to think that a certain matron of Mary's might be a bit worried about her daughter.
- Diana Prince has posed:
Diana showed a faint smile, that came and went from her facial features quite quickly. she glanced to her left, where her armor was displayed in a niche amongst the bookshelves that line the walls of her office on that side. The armor gleamed beneath the little lights, clean and recently restored yet again for an untold number of times over. "I was quite foolish, in that fight..." She admitted, as she looked back to Mary. "I thought that that if we displayed the willingness to fight alongside him, that he would see us as warriors befitting his allegiance. It was a mistake that could have cost me dearly, and one that I should not have taken. But, not all of my choices are right in the moment, especially moments of such heated battle, and with so much on the line. But, I will certainly aim to do better."
She had a smirk showcase the inner feelings of her experience there, before she shook her head slightly again. "I am... fine, otherwise. The weight of what lies unknown on the future does bear down upon me with a certain... discomfort. But, we will overcome it. We must." She showed a quick smile then, and tilted her head once more. "Has the Queen talked to you about me?" She asked, maybe 'on' to Mary having some marching orders from her mother, but she seems to be in a playful place at the thought, thus a sly grin was given too.
"You are welcome to bring a friend to the island too. We can have a home setup for you, and give you a true place of respite. I have been bringing a few friends to the island for that very purpose, in fact. It has been a dream of mine, to see friends from the outside world get to experience the island. I have had friends in my time, since leaving it, that never got that opportunity, and it too is a sorrowful point that still pricks at my heart."
- Mary Bromfield has posed:
Mary smiles, "Honestly? No orders for you, Diana. She worries about you, as a mother does for her daughter. So I figured I'd come by and check on you. And well, like you, I'm the oldest sister of a large group of foster siblings, so I think she figured I'd understand that better than most." She gets a bit of a rueful look at that. "I mean, I'm just some streamer girl from Philly and not an immortal Amazon princess but yaknow, close enough for government work." She gives Diana a wink at that.
"But yeah, was worth a try, but now that we know he's a snake... well, fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me. And get a divine powered uppercut for good measure." Her grin gets positively wicked at the thought of delivering a well-deserved comeuppance to that traitorous Terrax.
"Though, if we're extending invitations, you can definitely come to my family home sometime if you want a well cooked meal. My foster parents would love to meet you, of course, and my siblings would be honored to see you. If you wouldn't mind answering over a thousand questions, to be sure, but it'd be a sincere experience if nothing else. Plus there's no better place than Philadelphia to get an actual cheesesteak."
- Diana Prince has posed:
the continued talk of her mother potentially sending someone to come and check up on her, had a continued grin touching Diana's visage. she just nodded her head gently to what Mary said, of being in somewhat comparable roles, and at the invitation to a homecooked meal at her own family home, Diana nodded once. "I would be more than happy to do that. It is actually not that often that I get such invitations. I get plenty to... galas. regal affairs, events and fundraisers. But to a home, with a good family, good food, and a good atmosphere? That comes almost never. So I do believe that I could handle the line of questioning." She stated, another grin gracing her lips, before she gently shook her head again.
"Terrax returned in the battle at Wakanda. he received a number of aggressive attackers, wishing to deliver him a bit of personal justice. But, he was pulled away by his employer, and likely is facing quite an unenjoyable fate for the failure of that fight..."
She drew in a soft breath, and nodded toward Mary once. "I appreciate you asking me for my own well being too. That, also, is actually rather rare, at least when people ask on a meaningful level, and not your average day to day greetings. I certainly do have my own inner ups and downs, but... it is my duty to always stand up, when something manages to knock me down. A staple of my Amazonian training, placed in me by all of my sisters, and hammered home by my aunt Antiope. Rest her soul." She said that last part, with the aid of a small smile touching the corners of her ruby hued lips.
- Mary Bromfield has posed:
Mary smiles, "As we say, 'it's not about how hard you hit, it's about how hard you get hit and keep moving forward.' But hey, I'm definitely able to come down when you need someone to chat with... if you wouldn't mind, anyway. And no, that's not your mother asking that, just me." She smiles a little shyly, finishing off the tea, "I just know it can be hard to find someone to talk to about things. And well, you don't have a problem with spicy foods, right? Mom tends to test the newer guests with cranking up the heat on the food." She grins a bit at Diana, giving her a wry look as she doesn't think Diana would have an issue... but, well, you never know, right?
- Diana Prince has posed:
The question about spice causes the Princess to suddenly let out a laugh, it starts small, but works its way up in to a bubbly sound that just rolls up and out of her, followed suit by a larger smile, and little dimples touching the edges of her cheeks. She shakes her head once, then tilts her head. "I do not think I have ever tried a spicey food that ever truly had an effect on me. I can /taste/ the spice, of course, but it never over powers me, no. But, I know that is a common claim for people who dare to test the limits of their pepper palettes. I swear by mine, though!" She says, adamant force behind her friendly favored words.
"Do not let it come across as a challenge to your mother's ability to deliver said spice. I believe she can do it." Diana hadded with a slight grin.
"Would you like to stay for dinner?" She asked then. "If you are the mentee to my mother's mentorship, then I feel you should likely be spending a bit more time around here. Ferdinand, our head chef, is a very talented culinary artist. I have not checked in with him, to see what he is preparing for tonight, but I bet it will be ever delightful as it has always been before."
Plus, he is a Kithotaur, and everyone is surprised when they find THAT part out about dear Ferdinand here at the Themysciran Embassy.
- Mary Bromfield has posed:
Mary smiles, "Well, I'd be delighted to stay for dinner, Diana. And I'll make sure to let Mom know not to hold back." She looks positively delighted both at the invitation and the fact that she has at least one guest to bring over that wouldn't be stricken by spices. Plus, the fact that her siblings are going to be blown away with the visit of Diana doesn't make her smile just a bit wider at all, no not one bit.
"And I would love to spend more time around here... I feel that, well, I haven't spent as much time here as I really should. Considering that my strength and power is coming from the Amazons and the goddesses now, I would definitely appreciate more time here with those that... well, would be my sisters." She smiles over at Diana, 'If that wouldn't be a problem, anyway. I don't wish to be an unwelcome intrusion."
- Diana Prince has posed:
The Princess keeps a grin visible on her features, as she reaches for her cup of tea again. "I look forward to meeting your mother, and I promise not to ask her to become my mentor. Even if it is only /fair./" She says, continuing her playful trend, as she moves to stand up from her sofa. She motions to the cup of tea she had brought for Mary. "Come, grab your drink, I will take you on a little tour of the grounds, so that you may be familiar with the place. Perhaps we will even find Cassie, hopefully not in the middle of recording one of her 'Tik tok' videos." She has to roll her eyes a little at that last part.
Waiting for Mary to join her, Diana, holding her own cup of warm tea, makes for the double doors that lead out of her office, and toward the courtyard that is visible through the large windows that line the middle corridor of the home, and embassy.
"Do you live nearby?" She asked, on her way out of the office.
- Mary Bromfield has posed:
Mary smiles and picks up her own tea, following Diana along with a laugh, "Careful, she might just take you up on that and teach you all sorts of esoteric cooking techniques, Diana. Things that you wouldn't even learn on Themyscira." She seems to relax a bit, feeling more at ease as she follows Diana for the tour, "And Cassie, well... I don't do Tiktok, I tend to do more streaming of games on Twitch and Youtube. I actually have quite a following, enough to keep paying the bills anyway."
She smiles, "Marie and I, and our mutual friend Jennifer, have a penthouse nearby, overlooking Central Park. Emma Frost gave us the property as a bit of a graduation present for Marie, since she was one of Miss Frost's students, and we were looking for a place." Exceptionally generous, yes, which might not be common for Miss Frost, but it is for those that she mentors, certainly.
- Diana Prince has posed:
Once they emerge from the office, and step out in to the corridor beyond it, Diana is sipping from her tea as she listens. When she lowers it again, she has turned toward the north, and is walking along the side of the courtyard windows on her left. "Emma Frost gave you a penthouse apartment?" She asked, looking over to Mary. "That is quite a gift. I know her, but I do not know her well. I have seen her around the city a number of times, and we are on a first name basis, but, there is something about her... I cannot quite place it." She stated, a calm tone again to her voice, and a smirk following her words. "that really is an impressive gift to give, though."
As they walk, they pass by a number of pieces of Themysciran artwork set in to little nooks along the white hued walls, the floor of the hallway a dark polished hardwood.
"At least you are close by, though, which means it will be easier to swing in, any time that you feel the desire." She said, showing another light smile to Mary on her right. "And if you have a large internet following, then you should at least have a lot to talk about with Cassie, should she ever come out of her room again." She has to give her sister a ribbing, naturally.
"She and I share the same father, but different mothers. though, she and Hippolyta do have a very strong relationship, based on the Queen's desire for Cassie to be a strong Amazon, to represent our people's first non-native Amazon."
