- Diana Prince has posed:
Where was Diana anyway? Upon asking around the home, the answer would be yielded. "Upstairs. On the roof."
It surely assuredly was where she would be found too.
On a nice sunny afternoon, in the mid 50s, Diana stood atop the roof, on the southern (front facing) side of the Embassy's peak. She stood beside a table, with a pair of Amazon warrior sisters on either side of her. The three women were talking to one another, but were in the process of wrapping up their conversation, which was obvious from body language.
When the two warrior women, in battle armor, separated from Diana, they left the Princess standing beside one of the glass patio tables that adorned the well appointed roof space. The roof was often used for parties on nice nights, such as tonight, but there was no party on the schedule tonight, and instead, there was a mystery.
Diana folded her arms over her stomach, her pony tail whipping in the westerly winds coming over the roof, as she stared down at something on the table in front of her. Wearing a pair of no-prescription glasses that would make Clark Kent happy to see, Diana sighed softly. In front of her? An obsidian egg, standing up on a brass mounting, the egg roughly the size of a football. It shined brightly in the late sunlight, as it had a smokey interior like an inner cloud brewing inside its surface.
- Cassie Sandsmark has posed:
"What's she doing up there?"
With no answer forthcoming, Cassie sets out to investigate, and even in this, she takes a bit of a lazy shortcut: out to the courtyard, and then, well, straight up to the roof. Who needs to mess around with all the stairs when you can fly?
Thus she appears somewhat abruptly, sailing upward and then landing casually on her sneakered feet. The brief break in the winter cold hasn't been enough for her to abandon her 'winter Cassie' routine, a knee-length skirt with star-dotted black leggings, and the brown hoodie jacket worn over one of her usual Wonder-branded tops. The skirt and unzipped jacket flutter about, as she comes in for her landing.
The retreating Amazons are giving a friendly upnod, before she turns her attention fully on Diana. "Watcha hiding up here for?" And then, ambling closer: "Uh oh... is that another one of those monster egg things?"
See? Cassie remembers her continuity and lore!
- Diana Prince has posed:
It was a fairly windy afternoon, actually, and as Cassie touched down on the roof's surface, another hefty wind swept over it. The guards both greeted Cassie, as they marched on by, while Diana turned to look at her, shortly after she spoke. "Mm?" She asked, coming out of her own inner thoughts, before she glanced at the Obsidian Egg again. "Oh, the World Eaters? No... those are all still up on the Moon, at the Watchtower..." She expressed in her husky voice, her thoughts still clearly dominating her mind's focus.
After a second, she moved her left hand out, and splayed her fingers apart, as she indicated it, the reflection of her hand shining back in the perfectly polished surface of the dark object.
"This is..." She said, before she turned to face Cassie, and with her right hand, she pointed back toward the middle of the home, where the roof patio turned in to the balcony overlooking the courtyard.
The Invisible Jet shimmered in the air there, and suddenly faded in to being the Visible Jet, its hull aerodynamic, like a polished pure-white dagger.
"This is a Lansinarian Morphing Disc... Only, not like any I have seen before."
- Cassie Sandsmark has posed:
"Oh, phew. That last time was pretty gross, and I really didn't want to have to get swallowed again. Monster juices are really hell to get out of your clothes..."
So, by simple virtue of this not being that, the situation has already greatly improved for Cassie. Being wrong pays off! However, the actual explanation of the strange egg is one that only raises more questions. "Wait like, another one? It doesn't look very disk like..."
As she's saying this, the Jet fades back into view behind them, and Cassie looks back, and then laughs. "Wow, good thing I didn't fly too much higher or I'd have banged my head right into it." She reaches up and rubs at her hair in imitation of suck a knock. "So wait, can this one, that you're holding, turn into a plane too? Two planes? I've always wanted my own..."
That would be easy, wouldn't it? "Or is the fact that you're being all secretive and ominous about this not a good sign?"
- Diana Prince has posed:
"You missed it by about three feet." Diana informed her, knowing more about the Invisible Jet than was easily discernable by the average person. the bond between the Jet-- or more accurately, the desc, and Diana was oddly personal between she and it.
She showed a slight smirk at the call-out of the black egg not being disc-like, and she moved her hand over it, until her palm hovered above it. "It is not in command mode." She explained, as she pushed her hand closer to the object, but still not down close enough to touch it.
The Egg became suddenly a round disc upon the table, and the brass limbs that it was sitting atop of. The size of a man-hole cover now, it reflected the sky like a shining mirror surface, though that same smokey interior could be seen gently moving around inside of the blackness.
"As for ... why, or how?" Diana asked, her eyes going back up to Cassie, "I truly do not know. It did not have this fog inside of it, until I brought it back here. I believe it is communicating with, the other disc... Or at least trying to. But that is my best guess. I have not asked our disc yet, as I have been letting them have their time."
She moved her hand away, and the disc rose back up silently in to an egg form again.
"I found it in Gotham City. It crashed in to an aquaduct, and I had to pull it from the ice." She drew in a soft breath, and folded her arms across her stomach, rumpling the fabric of her white top. "Should it be here to join us? Well, there is no reason it cannot bond with you, if it finds you to be befitting." she smirked to Cassie then. "So, do not sing any of your songs around it." She teased, lowering her voice in to a near whisper.
- Cassie Sandsmark has posed:
The transformation from orb to disc seemingly satisfies Cassie's rather simplistic requirement that things be named by the shape they are! Some basic order to the universe!
... OK maybe that isn't her foremost concern, but as Diana puts it into 'command mode,' she does look on with a certain fascination, while still keeping her distance, despite any professed desire to claim a ship of her own. If Diana is treating the whole thing with a bit of distance and care, then clearly that's the wiser thing. Wise is kind of her whole deal!
"Huh, talking?" The idea that the two ships are in some kind of commununication again has her glancing over her shoulder, toward the hovering and visible Invisible Jet. "Well, hopefully it can translate for you, explain what's going on here with disc number two. Seems like a bit of a coincidence, it ending up here for you to find it, if it's not connected somehow, not looking for its friend here or... Well, who knows."
The comment about her music naturally draws a sour expression. "Don't be so narrow-minded, gawd. For all you know, Chappell Roan is like Mozart to them. She just won a grammy, too!" Of course, Cassie has moved on a half dozen different artists since the last time Diana was listening...
- Diana Prince has posed:
"It appeared on the Jet's internal scanners, and we just followed it to the alleyway beside the aqueduct," Diana further elaborates, as she tilts her head forward just a little, and stares a moment longer at the strange obsidian artifacts, as though staring at it long enough would yield her questions to be answered. "Cassandra Cain found me, and we searched it out together." She drew in a breath, and looked back to Cassie, before she showed her a faint smile. "Perhaps you are right. Maybe your music would help establish a proper first contact. Forgive my joke, it was cruel..." Cassie would know Diana's tone well enough to know she was teasing, and still in a state of great disbelief over that method of diplomatic firsts.
"If it is a message from the Lansinarian people, then I may have to travel to their homeworld, to investigate this further. These discs..." She said, her hand once more going closer to the black object. "They are of varying powers. Levels, if you will. The Lansinarian people are bonded with a level of disc that suits their role within their people's society. There are all manner of discs, from standard forms that only really allow you to morph a personal living space, all the way up to military forms of discs, that form giant starships that protect the planet. Those are far beyond even our disc's capabilities. Our disc," she glanced toward theirs, in its full jet-shaped glory. "It is the disc of a Lansinarian War General, as it was explained to me. The Generals used theirs for personal transport, home, and otherwise. It is why ours can so easily form weapons to defend itself, or defend us."
As they had against Evil Cassie several years ago.
"This one..." She looked back to the darkest disc. "this one looks to be of the same class, but... again, I never saw one this hue before. All of them, that I saw, were the same pale shade that ours takes in its default state of being." She drew in a light breath, as another cool wind swept over the house, tossing Diana's ponytail over her right shoulder and across her bicep. She crossed her arms over her stomach again, and exhaled lightly.
"Anyway, this is my latest mystery. I would hope it is here to help us, but my gut tells me... it is the harbinger of some ill tidings, as if we did not have enough of those." She spoke those words with a weight beneath them, and a knowing look sent to Cassie.
Her right hand went out to her sister's left arm, and she took hold of it. "How are you? Where have you been?"
- Cassie Sandsmark has posed:
The idea that it would be very easy for the one ship-slash-disc to locate the other hadn't crossed Cassie's mind at first, but in retrospect, of course, seems entirely too obvious: "Oh, huh. Makes sense. Guess that made it a all a bit easier."
After that, it's INFO DUMP time, with Diana expounding at some length on the use of the discs in Lansinarian society and their many different variations and function. Cassie listens, with interest. She muses: "So it's your ride, your house, your everything you need it to be all in one. Takes me living on my phone to the next level, huh? Pretty cool, if you think about it, though I mean... is that all assigned early on, or do you get to upgrade later?" Even the smallest glimpse at an alien society provokes further questions, curiousities.
However, deeper anthropological analysis may be something they'll need to put off, if it represents some more immediate threat. And while there may be no evidence of that? Well, Diana's gut is Diana's gut. "Nothing wrong with going on vibes. Plus, it's not like alien stuff showing up on Earth is usually good news. Better safe than sorry, right? Let's just hope yours has some good news to share after they finish their little chat."
With Diana reaching for her, Cassie leans into the familiarity, both figuratively and literally, bumping shoulders. "Where've I been? Now you really sound like my mom."
- Diana Prince has posed:
The two stood together, and Diana moved her arm around the other's shoulders, so she could hold her in a half hug embrace. They stood together beside the table, with the mysterious disc simply 'being' as they spoke, with its fog moving slowly within its interior space.
"Every Lansinarian gets their disc issued to them, when they reach adult hood, and are given their societal roles in life. Their education system is all about focusing on refining their citizens, and discovering their natural talents, then pushing them in to those fields. Their discs are connected to those fields too, providing them with what they will need to thrive within their careers. Being that mine is the disc of a soldier, it is not quite the same in volumetric size that it can build a living space from. Most of the discs on Lansinar stack atop one another, creating massive skyscrapers of combined discs, living spaces built atop one another..." She drew in a breath, her shouldrs could be felt rising, as she considered it all. "Perhaps I should go there again, just to check on the place, and bring this disc back to them, if that is somehow what it is looking for..."
She trailed off, as she turned them both toward the glass doors that lead in to the interior area of the roof, where the stairs down to the floors below were. She smiled, and bubbled out a soft laugh. "I did not mean to sound like your mother. I meant to sound like someone who feels as though you are busier than you used to be, you know... building a life for yourself, or some such. No time for... boring... /old/... Diana!"
She lead them away from the table where the obsidian disc waited in standby mode, the reflection of the Visible Jet clearly displayed upon its smooth surface, the two alien discs left to silently stare at one another.
