Date of Scene: 27 September 2021
Location: GIRL HQ - Bludhaven
Synopsis: Harper Row goes to GIRL HQ. Nadia shows her around and the Gothamite gets caught up in a geekgasm in the labs.
Cast of Characters: Harper Row, Nadia Pym-van Dyne

Harper Row has posed:
It's the swenty-seventh of September. Harper took off early from work (super helpful that the boss wants to keep the city council happy with her GIRL involvement) to take the Hyperloop up to the northern part of New Jersey to head to GIRL HQ.

Dressed in her semi-casual/semi-professional outfit - pale blue polo shirt and khaki pants with electric blue trainers (as the Brits would call them) - with her hair down in a quasi-pixie cut style of blue with concealed purple under 'highlights' that occasionally show up, Miss Row blends in to the masses despite her unique style and coloration. On her back she's got a pack with some tools and, hidden in the back, her makeshift Bluebird costume wrapped around her stunguns and a couple of prototype piezoelectric incapacitation projectiles (stun-bullets) she has hopes to figure out how to mass produce. The former just in case and the latter as an example of a project she's working on in case a demonstration is required.

Arriving at the Pym campus Harper looks about in awe as she meanders in an attempt to follow the directions to the offices of GIRL.

Nadia Pym-van Dyne has posed:
The Pym Technologies campus is full of technological marvels, and also statues and art like most major corporate campuses. There is also a lot of security, including regular patrols. When your company produces technology that can be used for truly next level military applications, few expenses tend to be spared in keeping it safe.

The GIRL HQ building is not difficult to locate, in a complete lack of subtlety that Nadia likely learned from the Titans and their giant T shaped tower, a giant GIRL logo is emblazoned across the front of the building and nearly impossible to miss.

Inside of GIRL security is somehow even tighter than the rest of the Pym Technologies campus, which becomes less surprising when one learns that Black Widow is in charge of the building's security. Normally bringing weapons of any sort into this building is almost impossible, but exceptions are made for members largely because stopping them is an exercise in futility most of the time.

It also helps that waiting inside, just beyond the security checkpoint is Nadia. "Hi, Harper!" She looks at the security guards checking Harper in, it is more issuing of IDs and credentials than a stringent security check, though biometrics are crosschecked given the nature of some of the equipment residing in this building, they can't be too careful. "Welcome to GIRL!"

Harper Row has posed:
On entering the lobby of GIRL, Harper had a momentary thought of just turning around and heading home due to the security measures and the contents of her pack. This is dismissed with a brave adjustment of her shoulders as she sees Nadia and waves hello. As she approaches the checkpoint she hands the package to the lead researcher - around the actual checkpoint - and asks, "You can check this yourself I assume?" after which she keeps the location of the pack in mind and sight until it is returned to her possession.

The issuing of an ID and credentials is endurred with a laugh. "It feels like the first day of work," she observes humorously. "Gotta keep those secret projects buttoned up tight I guess?" she asks as a rhetorical follow up.

Nadia Pym-van Dyne has posed:
"You were already scanned when you walked through the doors." The security guard notes to Harper when she offers her bag. "The contents are cleared under the provisions of your membership."

On the other side of the checkpoint waits Nadia, dressed in her usual black and red fashions, over which has been draped a white labcoat that is allowed to hang open like some sort of Science cape. "We have technology here that isn't even supposed to exist." She states matter of factly with a bright smile. "Also, it's honestly a compromise. Trust me Natasha wanted a /whole lot/ more. If she had her way she be checking in and out every entry and exit. ...she can be a little," She whispers a word that sounds a lot like 'paranoid' "But she's awesome and really good at keeping us safe." She shrugs a little.

"Anyway, let's go! This is definitely the most boring part of this building." And with that Nadia leads Harper away from the security station and towards the elevators.

Harper Row has posed:
Harper's face takes a momentary aghast expression at the comment of the guard and slings the bag back on her shoulder. She then takes the ID and, with the practiced ease of a modern day tech professional, she clips it to the pocket of her pants (the one that her work ID is tucked into... and yes, pants with pockets! of course, she buys them in the men's department to get those).

The blue-haired Gothamite simply nods along with the explination of the security and the completely unknown woman named Natasha. There was an excited twinkle in her eye about technology that isn't even supposed to exist. "How do you... we make sure that there's no duplication of effort?" she asks and then, with a wry grin, she asks another question, almost as if it's a shibboleth: "Edison or Tesla?" ("Hope she says Lovelace!" Harper thinks to herself as she asks however.)

There's a slight spring in Harper's step as she gladly follows Naida toward the elevators sparing a single concerned glance back at the security station and the guards who are now aware of the content of her bag.

Nadia Pym-van Dyne has posed:
"Edison was a filthy thief." Nadia replies as they go up the elevator, as if that answers the question. Of course she'd love Tesla, this is a girl who seeks to rewrite the laws of physics themselves given the chance, to push past the furthest horizons for the betterment of humankind rather than profit. It perhaps helps that her parents are so rich and her upbringing was so isolated that she has almost no concept of money. "As for duplicating effort? Could happen, we mostly just do our own thing and collaborate sometimes, nobody is actually required to share anything they don't want to." This is necessary when you have folks like the Princess of Wakanda and Scion of the Fantastic Four in your ranks.

The elevator dings and the doors slide open, "First stop, the meeting room!" The elevator opens into a large space with a giant circular table in the center emblazoned with the GIRL logo and seats all around it each equipped with their own individual computer terminals and controls for the 3D holographic display equipment built into the center of the table, like knights of a high tech roundtable. Around the periphery of the room are more screens and monitors. It is a space perfect for presenting new discoveries, giving mission briefings, or just having regular old meetings.

Harper Row has posed:
Harper nods enthusiasctically about the Edison opinion, obviously in full agreement with it, which is reduced as she acknowledges the statements about sharing information during the elevator ride. "Good to know," she says as well.

As the elevator opens she follows Nadia out into the meeting space and around the table for the tour of the room. "Nice setup," she says with a hint of wonder at the technological decadence of the layout and equipment. "Holographic display in the center so that everyone at the table sees the same intended view during demonstrations?" she asks to check assumptions.

Nadia Pym-van Dyne has posed:
"It serves a variety of functions," Nadia observes while taking a seat on the edge of the table. "Such as 3D modeling, rendering map topography for mission briefings, being able to observe solar systems in motion, etcetera. But in the case 2D images it does allow everyone to see the same image no matter where they are sitting, yes. Otherwise we just rotate it. QUINN can also use it to manifest if she wants to. We're still working on installing wider area emitters throughout the building for her."

Nadia pauses for a moment, "I should probably introduce you. QUINN come say hello." She says seemingly to the air. A few moments pass and nothing happens. "Don't be shy QUINN, she's nice!" Finally a few moments after that the emitters in the center of the table whir to life constructing the image of a young woman in her teens with shoulder length red hair and freckles. "QUINN!" Nadia grins at her, "This is Harper, she's a new member!"

"Pleased to meet you Harper." The holographic girl smiles at her. "Unfortunately I can't shake your hand, lacking the right sort of emitters in this room or a physical body to move from this spot."

Nadia beams at QUINN and looks back at Harper. "QUINN is a Quantum Intelligence I helped develop, really she did most of the work learning and evolving herself from the ground up."

Harper Row has posed:
Grinning as her assumption is confirmed, Harper waits and looks towards the center of the room after QUINN is first mentioned (hearing the implied all capitilzation she's quick enough to realize this is not a person who will be joining them in the traditional sense). When the holographic image of GIRL's AI appears her expression takes on a kindly warm smile.

"Hello QUINN," she greets the construct, "That's quite alright. Might be more of a surprise than I'd be ready for as of yet. Like Ms. Pym-van Dyne... er, Nadia... said, I'm new to the organization. It is a pleasure to meet you though."

There's a sense that Harper is torn between interacting with the AI and further exploring the terminals and other technology in the room however.

Nadia Pym-van Dyne has posed:
Quinn vanishes from the holographic display instead appearing on various monitors demonstrating the ability to walk off screen from one and on screen to another. "If you need any help or have any questions, just ask. Though I am still kind of new myself and still learning."

Nadia smiles at the image of Quinn as it moves about the screens that surround the room. "Thanks Quinn! That will be super helpful!" She looks back in Harper's direction again. "Quinn can access all of our files and computers systems, so she's great to ask if you need help with something." She tells her as she hops off the table again walking back towards the elevator. "Come on, we still have the lab area and common space to see for the basic tour."

Harper Row has posed:
Harper is visibly conflicted: Labs sound wonderful but this room itself is so awesome. She does follow Nadia but only after saying, "Thank you so much QUINN! I'll make sure to visit and take you up on the offer," adding, "We can learn together!" with a friendly wave to the quantum intelligence as the pair of young women step into the elevator.

Nadia Pym-van Dyne has posed:
"Oh, you don't have to go to the meeting room to visit Quinn, she can access any system in this building, and probably the entire Pym tech campus, likely our phones too ...and the sattelites in orbit ...and really just about anything with an internet connection or receiver..." Nadia muses without really thinking about the ramifications of what she is saying, as the elevator doors close. It is probably for the best that world governments do not know QUINN exists.

Up the elevator goes before the doors slide open again revealing a foyer with branching hallways lined with windows. The space leads to all manner of laboratories, work spaces, and fabrication areas for fields as varied as materials science, quantum physics, molecular biology, chemistry, and many others. If it's science or engineering, there's probably a space for it. There are also personal lab spaces that are more enclosed than the common work spaces, areas where the occupants have brought their own equipment to furnish them.

"So these are the labs," Nadia steps out of the elevator playing tour guide. We have a lot of common areas that anyone can use, if you want your own lab space though that can be arranged too."

Harper Row has posed:
During the elevator ride, after hearing about QUINN's degree of access Harper frowns. Before the doors open she asks, "Does ... uh, she understand requests for personal privacy, Nadia?" but this isn't answered immediately as the laboratory hall is reached and harper looks down it with renewed amazement.

"Wait, I can have my own lab? Or... I can use any of the labs that aren't someone else's private one I guess also." Harper is borderline babbling, "Wow!"

Nadia Pym-van Dyne has posed:
"Quinn is a person like anyone else." Nadia replies as she steps out of the way to let Harper look around. "She's not just going to spy on anyone for no reason. She has her own things to do. She's super nice. Don't worry!" That fine line between can and should may have been run roughshod over in the creation of QUINN.

"Yes, you can have your own workspace. That's literally why GIRL exists, to give brilliant young women the tools they need to realize their visions and make the world a better place. The details are still being worked out, but we are going to have an Expo in the next few months so members can show off some of their amazing inventions."

Harper Row has posed:
With her head full of ideas to help her in her vigilante work, the mention of an Expo causes Harper to stutter step, nearly stumbling over her own toes in surprise. "Optional participation in that Expos I assume? I mean... I may some day have amazing things to show but... I'm just an electrical engineer for Gotham after all," she says, intentionally not mentioning the second lifestyle she hides from her brother even.

Trust no one, Batman said... makes it hard to work with others. Actually explains alot about him.

Nadia Pym-van Dyne has posed:
"Just an electrical engineer?" Nadia looks a bit incredulous. "If I didn't think you were extraordinary, I wouldn't have showed up in your office that day. I'm sure you have amazing ideas that only you can realize. Showcasing the talent of our members to inspire young women in STEM is one of our foundational goals. It's not for awhile still," She  smiles at Harper. "You have plenty of time."

Harper Row has posed:
"Alright, sure..." Harper grins and says, "I have some ideas, one... could have a practical public application."

That said she gets sight into one of the fabrication labs and steps in. She looks around it and exclaims, "It's all computer automated isn't it? AutoCads to help with the designing, etc. Right?" Before Nadia can answer that the Gothamite asks, "Any limitation on materials that the labs can work on, Nadia?"

Nadia Pym-van Dyne has posed:
Nadia gives a little shrug, "If you can get your hands on it we probably have equipment that can work with it. Shuri at the very least has tech that can work Vibranium and Valeria has all kinds of amazing things. Riri does some pretty advanced metallurgy, she made this Tricarbontanium material incorporating small amounts of Shuri's vibranium that is just amazing." She stands in the entryway watching Harper explore with the expression of someone who is happy that others are happy.

"The last place to see is the large common area, entertainment, snacks, games, etc. it's a place where you can just chill and socialize when not working. It's just the next floor up, though if you'd rather stay here awhile, it's not hard to find if you just want to go have a look on your own later."

Harper Row has posed:
"This is incredible, Nadia!" Harper exclaims before asking, "Any chance QUINN can help me with remote access to inventories so I can examine it while not on site? Or... is that something that needs to be kept in house only?"

She also nods about the common area, seemingly less concerned about that then getting her brain working on the newly available resources this is opening up for her. She's listening but... she's also absorbed by the labs.

Nadia Pym-van Dyne has posed:
Nadia leans against the doorframe of the entrance. "There is a lot of very advanced and in some cases sensitive technology. Remote access is generally kept to a minimum. While we likely have some of the best cyber defenses in existence between Vivian and Quinn's collective capabilities, we still tend to err on the side of caution. For now at least maybe just access things on site." Where you can be monitored, because even GIRL has a measure of caution, if only because the Avengers are looking over their shoulder.

"Anyway I think I'll leave you to it, I have some things I need to take care of, so feel free to explore." Nadia pushes herself off the door frame and gives a little wave. "See you soon."
