Alexander Fairchild

Alex Fairchild, father of Caitlin Fairchild, was a US Special Forces soldier assigned to the US-SOCOM 'Team-X' command. Alex was born in 1969 and enlisted in the US Army when he was 17.

He served with the 1st Special Forces and was recruited into Delta Force in the late 80s. From there, specialized testing with the help of the DEO identified Alex as a potential Gen-Active and he received gene-therapy courtesy of the Super-Soldier Program. In 1998 he joined Team 7 under the command of Slade Wilson.

In 2001, Slade launched an illegal rescue operation into Somalia to rescue William Wintergreen from Al-Shabab. Alex volunteered to join Slade but was told to stay behind and hinder authorities until the rescue operation was completed. When Team 7's members returned, they were prosecuted by the US Army Judge Advocate-General and many dismissed from service. Due to his age, rank, and tenure, Alex was advanced to command of Team 8. During this time frame he briefly married a woman and she gave birth to his daughter, Caitlin.

In 2010, Alex became aware that the 'testing' that CADMUS was doing was far from what they assured him. A phantom menace hidden in the DEO's ranks had been manipulating Alex's memories, creating a fiction about a wife and daughter. Caitlin was a clone of Alex Fairchild selected to be developed as a super-soldier in utero. Alex had no idea how many times his daughter had been taken away, replaced, and returned to him. Once he understood the depth of the deception Alex gathered volunteers from Team 8 as well as former Team 7 members to launch a rescue operation. Alex died at the hands of one of the Caitlin clones, and the assault team took heavy casualties.

William Wintergreen and Slade Wilson were able to destroy the facility and successfully decant one of the clones. She was sent to live with 'Uncle Billy' while being introduced to the real world at a local high school as a 17-year-old girl. Slade was the quiet and distant financier to Caitlin's life, fulfilling Alex Fairchild's dying wish that someone protect his daughter until she could defend herself.
