Gloria Westhaven is an enthusiastic but reckless girl with dreams of becoming a superhero. Unfortunately, her monstrous appearance tends to make that difficult. Any rumors about Gloria cast her in a villainous light; they're about what she's burned or broken or eaten (and those were accidents! Or justified! ... Mostly), never about who she's saved or what she's defended. Her reputation and its ramifications get her down, but also fire her up; one way or another, she's determined to prove that she can use her powers for good, to prove that she's not the monster she appears to be.

Timeline

Timeline:
* 2007: Born in NYC, to parents Cadmium, Adaira, and Veronica, a polycule of "two Moms and a Non." Gloria calls them "Non, Mom, and Ma," respectively. All three parents insist that the genetics and circumstances of Gloria's birth are unimportant.
* 2012: Adaira loses her voice as a result of injuries she received during the Invasion. As a result, the Westhavens all learn ASL.
* 2015: At age 8, Gloria started showing signs of mutation: the nubs of her horns and tail.
* 2016: Parents move the family to Metropolis ahead of the Mutant Resettlement Statute. Gloria is too young to understand this decision and doesn't yet understand that she's "different."
* 2017: Gloria meets her best friend, Jeremy Michaels, in the wake of relentless bullying from her classmates. Her horns and tail have become too much to hide, and her eyes have already turned yellow.
* 2018: Gloria breaks out in hives, which turn out to be her growing scales. Her pupils change to slits. She experimentally eats a rock on the playground. None of this helps with her classmates' opinions of her, but Jeremy sticks by her.
* 2020: On the day of Genosha's destruction, Gloria is taunted by classmates that suggest she should have been there. Gloria snaps, and her strength first manifests. Several students - including Jeremy - are injured in the resulting destruction, and Gloria is expelled. Her parents enroll her in a new school. She is devastated, and can't bear to face Jeremy.
* 2021: Gloria's brother, Cinead, is born. All three parents insist that the genetics and circumstances of Cinead's birth are unimportant. Jeremy and Gloria reconcile.
* 2022: Gloria sneezes in class and the resulting burst of flame sets her desk on fire. When the sprinklers turn on, it spreads the fire instead of dousing it. Several students and some faculty are injured, and Gloria is expelled. Her parents enroll her in a new school. At Jeremy's urging, Gloria asks that it be Xavier's school. Cadmium and Veronica - still set on working towards a "cure" - deny this request.
* 2023: Gloria starts sneaking out at night just to get away from her family, but by circumstance ends up playing a thankless, often-blamed vigilante. She decides that if she's going to be a freak, she might as well put it to use.

Personality

Brash:
Gloria's mouth is more than capable of writing checks her fists can't cash - but her fists can cash a lot of checks, and they've gotten her out of a lot of problems. Force is her first approach to most problems. For that matter, it's her only approach to most problems. She's the type to act or talk without thinking about the consequences or who she's talking to, to take a challenge without thinking about whether she can meet it. She's prepared to take on anything and anyone, even those she can't take on. This confidence is well-won, but much less tested than she believes. At the core of it, though, is a desire to see just how far she can go, just how much she can achieve. How strong, how tough, how powerful is she, really? What does it take to stop her - and what will it take to make her unstoppable?

Loyal:
Gloria is always ready to be there when it counts. If someone has ever treated her as a friend - or sometimes even as a person - she'll be there for them and stick by them through anything short of a blatant betrayal. She has so few real friends, after all, that new ones are her most precious treasures.

Righteous Fury:
Gloria's prone to bouts of intense rage in the face of perceived injustice or harm to her friends and family. And while she's more than ready to yell and scream and shout about it, and she's even ready to throw hands about it, she knows that's not always the best course of action. So she stuffs it away, bottles it up, tamps it down, keeps her cool through gritted teeth because she's trying so hard to prove she's not the monster she appears to be. But sometimes, when all the words have failed or made it worse, it's all too much. And then something inside her breaks. And then a lot of things outside her break.

Self-Loathing:
The one lesson that Gloria has learned repeatedly throughout her life is: "You will never fit in. You will always be seen as a monster. No amount of good deeds can overcome how others will see you." She expects others to see the worst in her, because she sees the worst in herself. She expects to be reprimanded and talked down to, she expects to be hated, and the expects to be feared - because that's mostly what she's gotten from others ever since her powers manifested.

Soft-Hearted:
Despite all her rage, Gloria's a big softy. She cares about the people around her, even the ones she doesn't know. She's not always sure how to show it, but her affections run just as deep and as strong as any of her anger. She cries over movies (and denies it), pines for romance, and likes animals and hugs and stargazing.

Powers

Fire-Breathing:
With controlled breathing, Gloria can expel a jet of flame a few meters long. The exact nature of the flame seems to vary; sometimes it acts like burning gas, sometimes like burning oil. She can usually pick which, but sometimes it surprises her. She's sure she can do more with this, but it will take some work and experimentation. For now, it's a very dangerous weapon. At its most subtle, she can heat her breath enough to heat up something she's holding. Most people blow on their food to cool it off, Gloria breathes on her leftovers to heat them up. At their hottest, Gloria's flames can heat steel to red-hot, or even melt it very slowly. But this is limited by her ability to keep up the heat; her fire breath is tied directly to her air breath, so she can only breathe fire for as long as she can exhale. Depending on the type of exhalation, this could be anywhere from a few seconds (wide-mouthed, close-up, low-heat blasts) to close to a minute (pursed-lipped, intense or long-ranged spouts) if she takes a very deep breath first. She can also manage some short-spurt "fireballs," but her parents tell her it's unladylike.

Might:
Gloria's strong enough to make short work of most mundane objects easily. She can bend steel like it's hard clay, break concrete like crumbly bread, and leap surprising distances. She can lift a car or stop a bus, though both require a little time and effort. Her strength has limits, but she also hasn't tried to raise those limits yet. She hasn't needed to.

Prehensile Tail:
Gloria's tail is a thick, scaly appendage with limited ability to manipulate objects. She can wrap it around something or use the tip to punch a button, but finer motor control is unlikely. It's every bit as strong as she is, though, and the bony spade on the end can work as a club or a blade, depending on which side of it she strikes with. It also makes her a naturally fast and agile swimmer, able to compete with more exceptional athelets or some altered humans.

Toughness:
The scales covering Gloria's skin work as a natural defense against most forms of attack. They're practically bullet-proof; handgun rounds tend to bounce off without a problem, but anything larger than that will leave her battered and bruised, and may even dislodge scales that leave her with weak points. The scales will regrow slowly, over the course of a week or two. Even under the scales she's pretty tough; punching her is a lot like punching a thick steel plate. She never has to worry about broken glass, loose nails, cutting herself with a kitchen knife, or burning herself with a cup of coffee.

Unique Metabolism:
Gloria can safely digest any material that isn't strictly poisonous and she can get into her throat (some metals or alloys may be impossible for her to bite or chew, but she could still probably digest bite-sized pieces if she came across them). Wood, cloth, ceramics, glass, paper, ink, doesn't matter. She has a particular fondness for gemstones and metals, the less refined the better, and will often comment on how rocks smell or taste and has her own preferences about them. She finds rubber and petroleum products revolting. Her typical diet is a normal human's and that's enough, but she eats the other things because she finds it interesting or because she's dared to. Additionally, extreme heat or freezing temperatures have little to no effect on her; she can walk through roaring flames without breaking a sweat or dive in the arctic for hours without feeling a chill. Someday, she'd like to try molten metals or glass.

Skills

Acting and Improv:
This is not much of a skill. Gloria plays Dungeons & Dragons sometimes (she plays a Bard) and auditioned for the drama club at every opportunity. She was accepted once! But she was typecast really hard and dropped drama before the play went on.

Asl:
Gloria is fluent in American Sign Language. She grew up using it with at least one of her parents since she was five years old. She mostly uses it at home, but languages are always useful skills.

Best Friend:
Gloria's best friend is Jeremy Michaels. He's her DM, her confidante, and her biggest fan. He doesn't have powers or money, but he does have encyclopedic knowledge of pop culture and the histories and stories that it builds upon. Jeremy wishes he could be a superhero, so he urges Gloria to be one, instead. He gives her what advice he can, but maybe it's all just so he can live vicariously through her. Both Jeremy and Gloria will insist they are not a couple - and truly, neither of them are interested in the other that way - but shippers gonna ship.

Well-Off Parents:
Gloria's family includes three adults, two of which work in advanced sciences. This gives Gloria a decent allowance, and all three parents will show up to support her - or, at least, the person they want and expect her to be. She can rely on having a place and a family to call home unless something particularly drastic happens.

Weaknesses

Easily-Manipulated:
If you couldn't tell from the rest of her personality, Gloria is an easy person to goad into action. Anyone who knows the right buttons to push could taunt her into making a fool of herself at best or harming innocents at worst, and it's not that difficult to find those buttons even for those who don't know about them yet. Her short temper, reckless attitude, and yearning for affection all make her an easy mark for anyone looking to direct or re-direct her fury.

Monstrous:
It's no secret that Gloria looks like a monster, least of all to her. She knows what she looks like, and she knows how others will treat her because of it. The media and the police regularly paint her as a villain. Even when someone doesn't treat her differently, she expects them to enough that it affects her relationship with them.

Reckless:
Gloria practically looks for problems she can throw her whole body at. She's confident enough that it will work - or perhaps so desperate to prove herself - that she rarely thinks before she acts.

Uncontrollable Powers:
Most of the time, Gloria's got a handle on herself. Every now and then, if she's a little loose with a sneeze, she might start a fire small enough that she can keep control of it. Usually. But sometimes, if her emotions and her rage boil over, so will her molten breath. What would be a scream of rage from a normal person becomes a small industrial disaster for Gloria, and she just sort of comes to her senses in the fiery aftermath. Surely she could learn to control her powers with time and effort and tutelage... but she's had none of those things yet.

Untrained Fighter:
For all her powers, Gloria has no real experience in fighting, least of all fighting someone who can match her. Quick-thinking or well-trained opponents might be able to stymie or pin her even if they aren't on or above her physical level - and there are plenty out there who are on or above her physical level.
