The door to the condo opens as quietly as is possible when there’s more than one lock to deal with. Despite the late hours of his arrival, the effort to be quiet was unnecessary.

"How was the birthday party?"

Mike’s entrance pauses as he looks over to the studio owner sitting at the desk, the lamp on the surface being the only source of light. "Hmm? Oh it went fine. Terry's mom had carts of desserts."

"Terry's mom? The one who made all those cookies?"

"Mmmhmm. She does love to bake. And that group sure likes to eat."

"I see." There’s a lingering pause as Wade looks back to the laptop, giving his attention to the screen’s display. The silence is telling.

A lemon bar is set down by the laptop. As Wade looks up, Mike’s smirking down at him, "Don't ask what I had to do to get that."

The blond man’s eyes move to the baked good. "...dammit Mike, now I'm going to wonder."

"Don't ask." Mike insists, giving a solemn look. It isn’t until Wade looks to him with a building look of suspicion that the musician chortles.

The sound seems to be enough of an assurance as Wade sets his hand on the Lemon Bar. "Anyone tell you recently how much of a dick you are?"

"I learn from the best."

"HAH.” Knowing just who was being referenced Wade shakes his head and leaves Mike in silence, taking the time to savor the Lemon Bar while his roomie goes about preparing for bed. When the sounds of shuffling about pauses, the bassist’s chewing slows as he looks over to Mike. “mmph ….” He holds up a finger, “About the offer-” Another pause as a bit of curd seems freed from the crevices of his teeth to give him a blast from the recent past. Damn that’s good. “Do you think you-"

"I'll do it ." Mike answers, saving Wade the time.

"Oh.” Wade covers his mouth, “Okay. And the conflicts?"

"None."

"None? Just like that."

"What's wrong? Aren't you happy with that?"

"I didn't say I wasn't, it's just a quick change from before."

"Hmm. Well, tends to happen when you take a break from things. Sometimes it reinforces your value. Other times, it backfires."

The manager frowns, considering things. "I d-” He shakes his head. “You’ve been doing things. The thing at the market. And the trip. And you have a backlog of requests for your time work wise. Session work, another show. That film. "

"Which I agreed to."

"I know and I will reach out to them with the news. We'll go through possible coaches later." Wade pauses, considering the roomie for a moment. "Mike?"

"Yes?"

"Just because it's not said all the time does not mean that you are no longer valued. People get distracted. They miss things. But know that you are. “

Mike blinks, studying Wade for a few moments. "...Thanks Wade." He frowns, "Sometimes I don't know what I'd do without you."

“Same here. Let’s not think about that, okay? One thing at a time.”
