On an alternative Earth, New York City is kept safe from threats large and small by its Friendly Neighborhood SP//dr, an advanced combat mech piloted by Peni Parker and her radioactive spider friend. After an accident traps the pair in a new reality, they're setting out on their own to do what they do best: save the city.
Timeline
Timeline:
On an Earth not unlike our own, somewhere in the multiverse...
* 1996: Oscorp scientists discover a radioactive spider unlike anything they've encountered before. Resources are redirected to fund multiple studies to find a possible application for this discovery.
* 1999: Reports of meteor impacts come in from every major region of the world. Two weeks later, Buenos Aires is attacked by a monstrous creature that emerged from a meteor impact just outside the city limits. Two thousand people are killed before the Argentina military is able to neutralize the threat. Within a month, most major cities experience similar incidents.
* 2000: By incorporating their radioactive spider specimen, Oscorp scientists succeed in creating a human-machine link without the latency and control issues that have blocked progress in similar projects. In order to keep the secret of the project from getting out, Oscorp elects not to seek a patent. Almost immediately, Oscorp publicly announces the SP//dr Initiative. By combining a human pilot with new symbiotic wearable technology, SP//dr would be humanity's answer to a changing threat landscape. The identity of the SP//dr human pilot is kept highly classified.
* 2002: Exceeding all expectations in survivability and combat strength, SP//dr is officially approved by the U.S. Government for homeland defense and operates from Oscorp's facilities in New York City.
* 2007: Penelope "Peni" Parker is born to unknown parents in New York City. For reasons that are not yet clear, Oscorp receives guardianship over the child, making Peni the first person ever adopted by a corporation. She spends her first nine years in an upscale group home and attends a prestigious private school, totally unaware that she is being closely monitored by one of the largest corporations in the world. Oscorp makes every effort to ensure that Peni grows up to become an intelligent, well-rounded adult with a strong sense of duty.
* 2010: After eight years, the threat of large-scale monster attacks has been significantly reduced thanks to SP//dr and other similar projects. SP//dr continues to operate as New York City's unofficial protector and local hero.
* 2016: When she's nine years old, Oscorp finally makes contact with Peni and the nature of their interest in her becomes clear. Ben and May Parker, technicians for the SP//dr program, introduce themselves as Peni's aunt and uncle. They explain that SP//dr's pilot was killed in the line of duty and that he was, in fact, Peni's biological father. The secret of the SP//dr suit is revealed: the pilot must share a psychic link with the radioactive spider that powers the suit and Peni is the only person who's genetically compatible. Peni takes the news well and allows the spider to bite her. The two are psychically linked, allowing Peni Parker to pilot the SP//dr suit and take the mantle held by her father.
* 2023: Peni meets a new classmate, Addy Brock, and two immediately become rivals. Peni learns that Addy Brock is the pilot for VEN#m, Oscorp's next generation human-robot suit intended to succeed SP//dr. Not long after, SP//dr is dispatched to stop the MORBIUS monster from siphoning energy from the city's power grid. As the monster continues to grow stronger and more dangerous as it consumes energy, the VEN#m suit is deployed to help take control of the situation. VEN#m arrives to save SP//dr from MORBIUS, but the suit disobeys Addy and refuses to stand down. VEN#m kills the MORBIUS monster, whose death releases a shockwave of energy, leaving a smoking crater where SP//dr and VEN#m once stood.
* 2023: SP//dr and VEN#m arrive on a totally different Earth from the one they call home. Now, /this/ New York City has to deal with the VEN#m suit and its pilot, but SP//dr is already on the case! Unfortunately, on this Earth, Oscorp never invented a SP//dr and replacement parts are really, really far away...

Personality
Don't Stop, Can't Stop:
Peni Parker does not live an easy life. Deep down, she'd love nothing more than to just relax and be a kid, but she bears the weight of the world on her shoulders. For that reason, Peni tries to keep her mind as occupied as she can. Sometimes, this can make her appear a bit hyperactive as she almost always multitasks, even when it's not really necessary. Inside the SP//dr armor, she's not just trying to hold her own in the fight. She's responding to alerts and HUD pop-ups about changes in the battlefield, reacting to system failures, searching for the perfect song in her playlist to play next, and arguing with SP//dr about which movie they're going to watch that night. In battle, Peni will quip and joke in an effort to appear carefree and upbeat, but those close to her know that it's all just a defense mechanism that allows her to focus on something that isn't how terrified she is that she could die at any minute. One of the most effective ways she copes with this is music, both on and off the battlefield.
I'll Do It:
As Oscorp's secret backup SP//dr's original pilot, all efforts were made to ensure that Peni Parker would inherit a strong sense of duty. Peni grew up hearing stories of daring heroes and pioneers bravely doing whatever might be necessary for the greater good of their community. These lessons and parables were drilled in to Peni Parker from a young age and now that she has the power to affect change, Peni does not hesitate to act. If something is wrong, Peni wants to right it. If someone's being bullied, she wants to stick up for them. People in power should use that power to help those who can't help themselves. This has resulted in some tension in her life, however, as Peni has no problem opening her mouth or pointing her finger at those she sees as unjust. This has gotten her more than her fair share of detention with her teachers, as sometimes she just doesn't know when to quit.
Smarty Pants:
Peni Parker is extremely intelligent, almost to the point of academics being a secondary concern to her. Science, math, and technology all come naturally. This makes Peni well-equipped for the modern world, but it also makes her a bit of a brat. She's well aware of her own intelligence and she can get kind of smug about it. It also makes her less enthusiastic about things she considers pointless, like homework and studying.
Wise Beyond Her Years:
Wise Beyond Her Years - Although Peni is still a kid and there's much she doesn't know and even less that she understands, her experiences as SP//dr and working alongside the adults at Oscorp have given her a unique perspective on things. Spending all that time on active duty in a combat mech hasn't done wonders for Peni's childlike innocence. When she's not trying to quiet her thoughts with hyperactive teenage pursuits, Peni can sometimes give off an air that she's much older than she really is. It might be something she does, or something she says about a situation, or it could just be the way she carries herself. An adult could easily be forgiven for forgetting that Peni is just a kid.

Enhanced Physique:
No matter what universe you're from, being bitten by a radioactive spider tends to do something to the body's natural abilities. While Peni might not be able to stick to walls like some, her body has been enhanced by SP//dr's bite. Peni's reaction time, balance, and strength are slightly above that of a normal person. From a squat, she can leap over nine feet in the air and land with near effortless balance. This creates plenty of opportunities for positing on top of the SP//dr armor.
Psychic Link:
When Peni was nine years old, SP//dr's bite established the psychic link between them. This link is necessary for Peni to pilot the SP//dr mech suit, as doing so requires the pilot and spider to be completely in sync with each other. SP//dr and Peni are able to communicate with each other through this psychic link, even when the two of them aren't together. This could be used for reconnaissance, as SP//dr could easily go about its spider business in a sensitive area and relay what he sees to Peni. While Peni herself doesn't have a "Spider Sense," SP//dr does. If SP//dr is present and able to sense incoming danger, the psychic link allows Peni to react, though it's not as fast or intuitive as it would be if she had her own Spider Sense.
Skills
Computers:
If it has a keyboard and computer screen, chances are that Peni Parker can make it do strange and wonderful things. She has a natural affinity for computers and computer-like systems and can use them at an expert level. Peni's not going to be introducing the world to some new and exciting technology, but chances are good that she'll know how to use it.
First Aid:
Peni Parker has been trained in basic combat first aid and is able to stabilize most battle wounds before specialized attention can be given. She knows basic CPR and lifesaving techniques, can properly clean and dress wounds, and can reset dislocated limbs in a pinch. Her training is in line with that given to enlisted soldiers, despite just being a kid.
Hand-To-Hand Combat:
Peni is able to hold her own in a fight, even outside of the SP//dr combat mech, with most untrained opponents. She has received basic hand-to-hand combat training to prepare her further to take on the role as SP//dr's pilot. Peni won't be winning any awards here, but she's able to handle herself in the face of bullies, drunks, and the common street thug.
Robotics:
While her expertise is mostly focused on the SP//dr armor itself, Peni Parker has a high level understanding of robotics and engineering. She can perform basic repair and maintenance on the SP//dr armor and similar constructions. Because her knowledge is mostly intuition from her psychic link with the SP//dr spider, Peni won't be able to explain her understanding or teach others about mechanics.

Combat Armor:
The SP//dr suit is a state of the art mechanical suit with many complex systems designed for maximum combat effectiveness and protection for its human pilot. As with any other piece of technology, it is possible that SP//dr's capabilities and systems could evolve over time and there could be minor capabilities not itemized here, particularly where its computer systems are concerned.
The SP//dr suit was designed to go head-to-head with large, monstrous creatures. It stands at a solid 9'0" and weighs over 900 lbs. SP//dr's exterior plating is made of a proprietary alloy called Speed-Metal, which provides maximum protection for the pilot while allowing fast, graceful movement. While the exact properties of the Speed-Metal alloy remain a corporate secret known only to an Oscorp in another reality, it gives the suit an unreasonable level of durability for how graceful its movements are. SP//dr's armor is tough enough to withstand explosions and even direct gunfire from extremely large projectiles. The Speed-Metal exterior's most unusual innovation is that it can activate a bond with any surface strong enough to support SP//dr's weight. This allows SP//dr to cling to and move along walls and ceilings like...a spider.
When inside, SP//dr's pilot has an unobstructed view of the battlefield, but the suit's "Spidey Sensors" provide significantly more information in all directions. Infrared, ultrasonic, thermal, motion, parabolic audio, radar, and sonar are just some examples of the types of sensors available on SP//dr. All of this information feeds directly into SP//dr's central computer, allowing the pilot to quickly identify threats, assess the environment, and maintain a strong situational awareness of the situation. SP//dr's onboard computer systems feature an intuitive HUD and full access to the suit's many interconnected systems. With just a glance, Peni can see the status of each part of SP//dr, as well as the data being collected by its many sensors. Power can be rerouted and systems can be bypassed or modified, in the moment, if necessary. A full communication array gives the pilot full access to nearly every frequency, including radio, cellular, and satellite. It can also access the internet and has an excellent sound system.
SP//dr has advanced life support and filtration systems that ensure that the pilot is kept safe from outside contaminants, radiation, and other poisons. The suit is able to maintain a safe internal pressure and temperature, even in a total vacuum, and keeps two hours of emergency oxygen on reserve.
SP//dr has a number of offensive capabilities designed with large monsters in mind. The suit has super strength and is able to punch through most materials, including wood, drywall, glass, and even some thinner metals. It can lift several hundred pounds with each arm and has a grip strength capable of supporting its own weight while hanging. SP//dr has a pair of web-shooters built into each forearm that fire web lines strong enough to support SP//dr's extreme weight without breaking. The web-shooters can also spray web-fluid instead of weaving it into a web-line. This results in a shotgun-style blast of web-fluid useful for keeping someone webbed in place. Each of SP//dr's forearms contain three pressurized tanks for web fluid.
Weaknesses
Combat Armor:
The SP//dr combat armor has a number of weaknesses. It has been known to be vulnerable to sudden surges of power, resulting in system failures that require its pilot to intervene using its computer controls. It's also important to note that the suit itself is only able to maintain function under its own power for 120 minutes. It takes twelve hours to completely charge the internal battery. The SP//dr combat armor is also completely disabled without its radioactive spider and linked pilot
Don't Lie To Me:
Peni's entire life has been built on lies. While she thought she was just a normal kid, she was really just a single piece in Oscorp's grand strategy. This makes her extremely sensitive to being lied to and having the truth deliberately withheld from her. If someone's lying to her, she'll call them out on it. If she thinks they're bending the truth, she won't stand for it. In particular, Peni distrusts adults and authority figures most of all. Unfortunately, Peni's foundational problem with lying has made her honest to a fault. If someone asks her what she thinks about something, she'll tell them the truth even if it's not what they expect to hear. Peni tries her best, but she's not skilled at knowing when it's best to withhold the truth from someone. She's never /trying/ to hurt someone's feelings with the truth. She just has a hard time understanding why she'd ever lie to someone or why they'd even want her to.
Only Child Syndrome:
Peni has always had a sense that she was special. After all, she's the only one in the entire world who can pilot SP//dr, right?. She's proud of it, even if it's not something she can tell everyone. She's out there, putting her life on the line, saving the city, and so on. This is a responsibility, a duty, but it's also a birthright and something that makes her unique, and that's a feeling that she craves. Competition, whether it's real or perceived, brings out feelings of jealousy in young Peni Parker and she doesn't always handle them in the most mature way.
