WHAM!

The rock cracked and shutter with the force of the punch. Stepping back from the dust, Mark Grayson growled, his lips pulled into a thin line, his expression dark. Stepping in, he threw another massive haymaker that shattered the stone as he pushed further into the mountain he had chosen to take his frustrations out on.

Everything his father told him. It was all a bed of lies. That the Viltrumites were peaceful... his fist slammed into the rock again. That he loved his mother... another solid punch. That they were on Earth to help.... he continued to drill home punches. Every punch was a memory. His first day of school, his mother was there. Nolan was away. Book tour, he said.

His first baseball game, Nolan was late. But Debbie was there. His first dance, his first fight, his first relationship, his first heartbreak. His mother was there for it all. It wasn't Nolan that Mark wanted to introduce Bunny to first - it was Debbie. The same with Sunny. As he continued to throw punches against the walk, he didn't care that his knuckles were ruined, broken, bleeding. It hurt. But the hurt reminded him of hitting Omni-Man. How much that hurt. And how much more it hurt when he hit back.

He wanted to talk to Eve. She wasn't there, though. Would she even understand? She would, he knows what her dad was like, it may be a shadow of what happened to him, but she's his best friend. And he's glad she's got her own life, but god it hurt. He knows that Bunny and Sunny were there. And other friends. He had friends to rely on. Phoebe was texting him, even now, asking how he was. He was fine, he texted back.

That too was a lie. All he could see was his father's face. The anger. The betrayl. That Sunny and Mark had not eagerly accepted his idea. That he didn't care about Bunny and the sacrifice she had nearly made to save them. The impassioned glare as he looked down at her as Mark threw himself on her to save her. And then in Hawaii, before he left, that last look at his son before he left.

It wasn't hurt. It wasn't anger. It was disappointment.

Mark roared and smashed into the rock with everything he had. The mountain shuddered, the ground quaked. And Mark slumped down to his knees in this far away place, he slipped off his mask and he cried. The tears came as easily as the blood from his fists as he just let it out for a good ten minutes. He cursed it all. Everything that his father had stood for. He would forge his own path this point forward. A base that was built on lies was destroyed, and his punches had swept it away. In it's place, he would build a new base. A stronger one. He had the best building materials. Strong feelings, mutual respect. Friendship. Love. Comraderie. He knew it would be better. He knew it would be...
