Happy Harbor Days
Date of Scene: 06 May 2022
Location: Harbor Road and North Street
Synopsis: Belinda, Morgan and Viv run into each other outside Pop's Groceries. They have a chat about sports, chess, bikes and dogs.
Cast of Characters: Vivian Vision, Morgan Finn, Belinda Gutierrez

Vivian Vision has posed:
With class done for the day the worlds only Synthezoid teenager Vivian Vision is out and about. Having taken a casual stroll from campus to obtain supplies for the weekend at Pop's Groceries. A favorite for students thanks to the reasonable prices and warm & friendly customer service.

Not that synthezoids actually need to eat. That's weird organic business. But there are plenty of organic super geniuses over at GIRL who need to be distracted from projects which might someday destroy the world with a steady supply of cupcakes and cookies.

And thus she's hefting a large brown paper bag filled with various ingredients as if it were as light as a feather. Ignoring the fact that her pinky-red skin, green hair and faintly glowing yellow eyes still draw the occasional stare from curious passer-bys.

Morgan Finn has posed:
The small-town feel of this neighborhood is one of the few places that Morgan -- who is publicly knowns as Wonder Boy -- can get some peace. The citizen here largely don't know who he is and he's quite okay with that. He's walking along the sidewalk, hands in his front pockets, seemingly lost in thought somewhere far away.

Eventually Vivian comes into his view. Morgan alters course slightly to approach the fellow HHS student.

"Hey," he says in an easy tone and a friendly nod of his head. "Vivian, right? From school?"

Vivian Vision has posed:
Vivian Vision glances over at Morgan when he calls out her name. Her head tilts a fraction, then she nods. "That is correct," she replies cheerfully. "Although it depends on how you define from. I visited here from School and I attend Happy Harbour High School. But technically speaking I do not originate from there."

Plus she's wearing the school uniform. Even though it's not mandatory for students to wear outside of specific events & functions.

"And you would be Morgan Finn." Not phrased as a question. One of the many perks of being an AI is you can look up information in your memory with perfect clarity. "What brings you to this part of the town today? Are you out on errands?"

Morgan Finn has posed:
Morgan does that teen non-committal shrug thing, but his face is a warm smile as is his way. "I'm just out stretching my legs. I was thinking about some burgers or something." He is not wearing his uniform. Instead he has on well-worn jeans, Skechers, and an L.A. Rams T-shirt.

"Finals coming up soon," the teen says, wincing a bit. "I've been studying like crazy. I'm not so great with tests. I always get all nervous." A small laugh.

Vivian Vision has posed:
"Burgers can be an acceptable food item providing you eat them in moderation as part of a healthy diet," Vivian helpfully informs. Without a hint of irony. "Especially if you are engaging in a lot of active sports, running or walking long distances."

"As for the school tests. I do not really have any concerns academically, but then I can remember every lesson I've taken. Right down to who made which jokes, what the teacher was wearing and what was on the school cafeteria menu that day." She shrugs back. "Have you considered finding a tutor to help you with your studies?"

Morgan Finn has posed:
Morgan smirks a little bit. "You sound like Diana. On both counts." His tone is warm and friendly, not at all antagonistic. "At the Themysciran Embassy, I help a lot preparing meals. The executive chef there is pretty strict about healthy ingredients."

He peers curiously at Vivian. "Man that is some gift, being able to remember every lesson? What I wouldn't give for that power. So you basically never have to study for anything, huh?"

Vivian Vision has posed:
"I do not know Diana well enough to say," Vivian says after a moments consideration. "I know Wonder Girl and Troia a lot better. As they're both members of the Titans. Ms Fairchild handles a lot of the cooking there and, while she does make cakes and treats, she does tend to prepare nutritional dishes when she cooks."

She shifts the bag of groceries from one hand to the other.

"For high school material? Truth be told I only attend class for the social aspect. I would likely be able to pass any college course I wished without much effort. I do still need to educate myself though. For example I'm currently working to create a pet dog using the same technology I was created with. Which has so far been most challenging."

Belinda Gutierrez has posed:
Recents events have been wildly unnerving, but the potential of finals-- so much studying to do! --makes for an excellent distraction from any and all worries. Especially for jumping at and keeping a wary eye on anything even remotely resembling a cargo van.

Thus, Pop's Groceries.

"Morgan!" she announces cheerfully, waving to the duo. She smiles warmly, tucking a hastily scribbled grocery list back into her pocket. Dressed in civilian clothing ('civvies' instead of school umiform, she smiles as she approaches-- eyes narrowing like a shark as she comes close.

"Sudden Death Physics!" she suddenly announces, lunging up to Morgan. "First Law of Motion! GO."

Morgan Finn has posed:
Morgan is standing easy, having casual conversation with Vivian. Whatever she's saying is mystifying the kid because he has one of those Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure 'whoa' looks on his face. "That has some really interesting ethical dilemmas to it," he says. "For example, is it okay to create an artificial life form that is intentionally not as smart as..."

He gets pulled out of his thoughts by Belinda's arrival. It's not too difficult to see how the kid's face lights up at the sight of her. "Hey, Belinda! How's it going?

BAM. Ruthless sidewalk pop quiz! He screws up his face in thought. "Ummmm...a body at rest or in motion will remain so until acted upon by an external force!" Beam. He returns fire! "Formula for a single-value calculus derivative!"

Vivian Vision has posed:
Vivian Vision raises an eyebrow and then grins. "Yes. It's considerably more ethical," she assures. "Than the alternative of creating a fully sentient being but in a form which prevents him from living an independent and complete life. Or indeed creating one which has the capability to crash the stock market or attempt world domination."

Clearly this is an ethical topic she's given a lot of thoughts.

Her attention flicks over to Belinda, although the only sign is a slight shift of her head, and she waves. "I do not believe we have met before," she notes. "Vivian Vision. It's a pleasure to meet you."

Belinda Gutierrez has posed:
Belinda cringes, momentarily taken aback. "Caramba!" she exclaims, screwing up her face in thought. "Given derivitative of a "Y" function as respective to "X" times "G"..." She grimaces, thinking heavily. "...no, wait. Y times X is equal to X times G, plus the derivitative of the G times F. I think. Hello!"

She smiles, offering her hand to the synthazoid, 'absently' giving Morgan a friendly nudge to the ribs with her elbow. "Belinda Gutierrez, mathematically speaking. Without the Greek letters in the place of numbers!" She takes a closer look, fascinated. "Costume party? Going as..." Pause, thinkthink. "...Green Lantern?"

Morgan Finn has posed:
His eyes open wide and Morgan can't help but let out a small laugh. "Oh my god, that what Vivian looks like. She's not in a costume." The teen demigod's eyes glitter playfully. Then he glances to Belinda. "And by the way, you and I have some unfinished conversation business coming up." He makes two-fingers-pointing-at-eyes 'I'm watching you' motion with his hand.

"Anyway," he says to Vivian. "I sure would love to see how it comes out, the dog you're making. Oh hey! I'm gonna start learning to play chess. Do you do any chess tutoring?"

Vivian Vision has posed:
There's certainly nothing make-up-ish about the way Viv looks. Her skin has a smooth plastic-y texture to it with a few areas with deep line marks. Her hair is green to the roots. And her eyes are a pure golden glowing yellow with no visible iris or pupils. In the 'if they were contacts they'd make it impossible to see' sort of way.

Her attention shifts between Belinda and Morgan. Then back again.

"My Father is the Superhero Vision," she explains. "I do engage in superheroic activities but not in a costume. There's very little need as I can holographically project whatever look I like. Like so."

And without moving she's suddenly pretty much an exact copy of Belinda in appearance. Although anyone with super senses or super speed can likely pick up a flickering refresh of the image.

Belinda Gutierrez has posed:
Belinda's eyes widen in surprise, a smile teasing at the edges of her mouth. She leans forward to Vivian's holographic mask, curiosity apparent as she gazes closely. Nostrils quivering. Sniffing? "Marvilosa!" she exclaims in delight. "My apologies, Senorita Vision!" she adds, eyes dancing with mirth. "I did tease, but I am still mostly new; attending Happy Harbor, but-- recently come. And very much distracted! Finals week. Hence, random test questions on the sidewalk. As superhero things, it is helpful to be prepared at all times for the unexpected!"

She takes a quick glance aside, the question practically written on her face. "Chess? That is the game with the horse, no? Like checkers?"

Morgan Finn has posed:
It would seem that Vivian is not in the business of chess tutoring. He shrugs and looks back to Belinda. A grin creeps over his features. "Yep, it's checkers with horses. Diana wants me to take it up. I uh... I had to..." He runs his hand back through his hair. "I had to quit the sports teams. I started exhibiting some, um, enhanced strength. Right now it's kind of out of control and sporadic. Diana and I agreed that if I accidentally hurt someone with it, it would horrible. So for now I stick with my combat training and I guess chess." A smirk.

Vivian Vision has posed:
"I am in the school Chess club," Vivian admits letting the holographic image drop. "Although most people have stopped playing against me even when I take the most severe handicaps possible. I win against even very accomplished players."

After all it's like playing a world class chess computer which can also pick up on your microexpressions and play psychological mind games. Or 'super not fun' in laymens terms.

"Anyone is welcome to visit the school club and ask for a game. I am also active in various online chess groups. If you wish I will send your school email address some of my usernames if you wish to challenge me to a game some time."

"Checkers uses a similar board but is a much older game. With roots that may well date back five thousand years or so. While Chess is thought to originate from a game called chaturanga which was invented in India roughly fifteen hundred years ago."

Belinda Gutierrez has posed:
Bright eyes widen anew as Belinda stares at Vivian, listening after a soft, low whistle. "I did not know it was so old a game," she admits. "Or so widely travelled. I think my gran'papa used to play, but that was long ago; noone in la familia plays. Too much work to do, school or farm or other things."

Belinda shoves her hands in her pockets, sighing wistfully-- retracting her hastily-scribbled list with a quick nod. "It is not beisbol, but--" She shrugs, glancing at Finn. "The track is alwasy there. I run to help burn awa excess energy. On the weekends, I take the train-subway-tunnel over to Central Park and run there. Endurance training! Or a good run. It is both?"

Morgan Finn has posed:
The teen demigods listens with interest as Vivian describes the history of checkers. "Shit, 5,000 years old? I had no clue. But yeah, please send me your screen names to my email. Galatea and Diana teach me fighting by smashing me to pieces. I will learn chess the same way."

Morgan gestures to Belinda. "Hey, I'm out on the sands at the arena across the street from the Themysciran Embassy every day at 5:00 in the morning getting my ass handed to me. Feel free to come by if you wanna see my get destroyed by Amazons. Or join in, if you want."

Vivian Vision has posed:
"Done," Viv notes. It really is just a matter of a thought for her to send a list of chess sites and usernames. The implication being she either knows every students email or is able to simply work it out based on names and the way Happy Harbour formats it's student emails.

"Learning directly from the Amazons is a very valuable experience for you. From what I saw of their fighting techniques while in Themyscira even the worst Amazon is still leagues above most normal Humans."

She gives Belinda a nod of agreement. "There are plenty of athletic sports which do not involve competition. Weight lifting, running or activites like ballet."

Belinda Gutierrez has posed:
"I will happily come to cheer you on," Belinda says, smiling. "But I know less about combat training than I do about Chess! I am quite sure they would beat me with sticks and laugh while drinking tea and eating olives."

She gives Morgan a quiet glance, sighing softly before she looks embarassedly aside. *Sooooo* much to discuss.

"Though it might make bet-worthy subject matter. Loser wears a tutu for the day?" She grins sweetly, mischief bright and brief in her eyes. "But anyway--!"

She holds up her list with a firm determination. "I got a call from home, and Mama finally told me the secret recipe for jalopeno cornbread. I was coming here to Papa's Grocery for ingredients; it is the only place I have discovered so far that has actual, mostly-decent materials."

Morgan Finn has posed:
A small, quirky glance from Morgan is the only indication that Vivian might get as to whether or not he thinks it's creepy that she can do with that with email while standing there. Though, to be fair, it might not be as disturbing as it would be in page ages. Today, most middle school kids are carrying a power, internet-connected computer in their pocket and given a bit more time could get the same thing done that Vivian just did.

"Yeah, for sure, those Amazons are badasses. Just when I think I'm starting to gain some ground on my primary trainer, Galatea, she whoops my ass to remind me how much she holds back."

Morgan's eyes widen with some delight when Belinda mentions jalapeno cornbread. His love of food is well known. "Count me in if you need test subjects."

The teen demigod exhales upward, blowing some errant hairs out from in front of his eyes. "So either of you have any big plans for the summer?"

Vivian Vision has posed:
"I generally am always busy. When I have time away from school I spend more time working with the Titans," Vivian muses, mentally looking up her schedule. "And GIRL always demands a lot of time. Between our work on the spaceship and all of the personal research projects we have underway..."

Another shrug.

"Hopefully I'll have a little more time for my hobbies though. I've been learning about art by sketching people. And working on my musical skills by learning the flute. Which still require some work before I'm ready to play infront of people."

She glances between Belinda and Morgan. "Do you two have any dates planned over Summer?"

Belinda Gutierrez has posed:
For once, Belinda is struck speechless! "Ah...." she begins, rallying brain from the out-of-left-field question. She coughs, smiling sheepishly, shaking her head. "I do not think so," she begins slowly, "I am still settling into the City, as it is much different from home. Though I am not jaywalking across busy lanes nearly as much anymore."

She giggles to herself with quiet amusement, shaking her head. "But! Statue of Liberty. It is a must to be seen. And the Embassy Amazonia. The United Nations building." Raising her free hand, she ticks off her fingers, recounting the places to visit. "But those are all in the city itself. There is much forest land outside the boundaries too, and I much prefer that to the city. Quieter. Much less smelly--!"

Morgan Finn has posed:
It's difficult to say which turns red first, Morgan's cheeks or his earlobes. It's a photo finish. "Uh, dates? N-no. Belinda and me are friends." It doesn't take a body language expert to see that Morgan is definitely interested in Belinda, however. He glances at Belinda, accidentally makes eye contact with her, and looks away instantly.

The volume of Morgan's voice involuntarily rises a bit. "So, the flute, huh? I heard that's a hard bike to ride." He stops, blinking. "I mean, a hard instrument to play."

Vivian Vision has posed:
Vivian Vision nods in agreement at mention of how difficult the flute is. "It's especially challenging because I don't really breath like a Human does," she admits. "It's not like I really require the oxygen to function. I'm also limited in the hours I can play as I'm staying in the school dorm building."

She pauses. Blinks a few times. Then finally adds "You know I have never actually got round to trying to ride a bike."

Belinda Gutierrez has posed:
Belinda crosses her arms, thoughtful as she considers it. "I know how to ride," she says slowly, "But I have done it so long, explaining it would be hard for me. Instinct rather than rote rules, by now?" She shrugs helplessly, glancing at Morgan- glancing away with a sharp, brief blush! "But surely it cannot be harder than playing a flute," she continues, rapid-fire words coming quickly. Focus on Vivian's jewel! So... jewel-y?

"And you mentioned a dog?" she adds, glancing back. Subject change GO. "Robotico or special breeding? Surely that is more interesting to pursue than bike or flute!"

Morgan Finn has posed:
"What about playing flute *while* riding a bike?" Morgan offers unhelpfully.

Then he glances to Vivian. "Yeah, spill the tea on this dog situation. How big will it be? Will it be physical or hologram? What breed? Can you program its personality?"

Vivian Vision has posed:
"I intend to call him Sparky," Vivian replies with a smile. "As for the specifics that is still largely undecided. At this point in time. I think I am more inclined towards a smaller breed of dog as it will be less demanding in terms of space. Shared dorm rooms do only have a limited amount of room."

She shifts her groceries back again. Then holds out her hand, on the palm of which she projects a scrolling imagine of various small dog breeds.

"It'll be a synthezoid dog. So in the same way that I am a synthetic Human it'll be a synthetic canine. Able to do anything a dog can do but also anything a synthezoid can do. With the exception of true sentience. As I mentioned earlier I do not wish to create anything which might decide it would like to become a supervillain. It would be a bad idea for AI legal rights, which are basically close to non-existant."
