Cast of Characters: Mercy Thompson, Kara Danvers

Mercy Thompson has posed:
Sunday! Mercy did church and she didn't have to work or do a project. Lately she's spent a lot of time at the embassy to help with her training but there was something going on there. Not wanting to miss some training, Mercy has gone to the roof of her building. Doing her best to use that to hide her from most on the street.
This means she can swing her practice staff with a wooden 'spear' tip at her above normal speed. She's in a tank top, hair in a tight braid, and sweat pants as she just spins and practices her fighting. Someone who knows fighting can tell, this is not the kind of fighting done to look good. This is hard training for real combat. She's glistening already as she works on the thrusts, drilling them a hundred times easy. Doing her motions and getting the moves to be in memory as best she can.

Kara Danvers has posed:
Being Supergirl means commuting between Metropolis and New York on a regular basis. Thankfully, when you're a Kryptonian, that's not really hard. And she's even made sure to alter her flight path to do a flyover on her newest cookie provider, especially after the whatever-that-was a few weeks back.

Seeing Mercy on the roof, she slows, dropping down towards the roof, as she moves to lightly put boot to roof.

Mercy Thompson has posed:
It isn't the sound that tips off Mercy, but the scent. Mercy is still working on a series of sweep, thrust, strike with the weapon even as the Kryptonian makes touchdown, "Hello Supergirl." Not turning around as she works on the motions, keeping count on her head. "How are you this nice day?" She's panting, her heart pulsing and it feels good to get that burn. "Looking to get more cookies?" A smile heard in her voice even if not seen from behind. Once she finishes the move a few more times she'll stop and turn to face the young blonde.

Kara Danvers has posed:
"Hello, Mercy. I never turn down cookies. I was flying by and saw you practicing and it looked familiar." She offers. "Been training over at the Embassy?" she asks, and gives a headnod in the direction of the Themysciran embassy.

Mercy Thompson has posed:
Mercy walks over to where there is a bottle of water and opens it up to take a big drink. "I have been. It's nice because unlike the dojo I go to, I don't have to hide my abilities as much. I'm the only girl in my karate class. The embassy I can throw all I can into a punch and never hurt some of them." She grins with a flash of teeth, "But I'm learning to be infuriatingly hard to hit." She will set the spear down rolls her shoulders. "Things good with you?"

Kara Danvers has posed:
Supergirl nods. "Oh, sure. Just had to stop off at Titans' Tower, and then it's back to Metropolis. I do a lot of commuting. No biggie." She shrugs her shoulders slightly. "Only problem with training is a spear is they're a little hard to carry around on the day to day." she quips.

Mercy Thompson has posed:
"Got to meet a Titan. Don't remember if I told you that or not." Mercy will take another drink as she stands before the woman a relaxed smile staying on her features. "That is true, but I have some sword training and to be honest the Amazons can't help me train in one of the styles I fight." She tilts her head and asks, "So is there a good nickname for you? It feels formal calling you Supergirl. I mean is it okay if I go Essgee or something?"

Kara Danvers has posed:
Supergirl looks amused. "Or you could call me Kara, which is my name." She smiles to the mechanic. "Supergirl is like "Superman"; it's a construction the press dubbed us, and well, it's just taken on a life of its own. So what's the style they can't help you with?"

Mercy Thompson has posed:
"Kara? That's a pretty name." Mercy laughs at the question, "Well. I often tend to run from fights unless it is where and how I choose. I'm not too proud for that." She considers something, studying the young blonde as she has some kind of internal debate. "They also aren't used to fighting above their weight class. Seems every time I'm in a fight, I am usually out gunned in every way. Though I did knock out Rhino in one hit. After a woman reeking of nowhere I've smelled before and brimstone beat him up some." She motions to Kara, "You good at keeping secrets Kara?"

Kara Danvers has posed:
She nods. "Kara Zor-El." She gives her actual name. "Given how much I have to do it on a daily basis? I'd say I'm pretty good at it. And running is usually the best idea. That's what we're here for, to take the hits while everyone else runs away."

Mercy Thompson has posed:
"If only running away was always an option," agrees Mercy. She accepts the truth that Kara must have to keep her secrets. Twirling the spear, "I'm sure there is no way I can hurt you. But you want to do a little bit of sparking? I doubt I'm training for you." She hasn't stopped smiling and is clearly in good spirits. "We can make it a game somehow. Each point you score on me, gets you another cookie or a question asked."

Kara Danvers has posed:
Kara smiles. "We can spar, sure. You have another spear? Or did you want to train with some other means? And you don't have to tell me anything if you don't want, Mercy. But I'm still not going to turn down cookies."

Mercy Thompson has posed:
"You'll get cookies, I promise." Mercy grins over at the Kara. "We'll 'fight' for the spear." She tosses it to the side. "I'm sure you're way way faster. But that's the point. A bit of fun and maybe to help learn something. Who knows. Maybe I can surprise you." The spear is moved to be midway between the pair of them. "I'm just trying to figure out how curious you are, and checking to be sure my ego isn't getting away from me."

Kara Danvers has posed:
Supergirl smiles. "All right, then. When you're ready." She drops into a ready stance that's pretty similar to Mercy's. Themysciran combat training.

Mercy Thompson has posed:
Mercy nods to the side and says, "See the streetlight there? We go on the green." With that she gets into her own ready stance. Being ready to spring. They two women can watch and before long at all, the light flares green. Mercy starts off by 'cheating' as well. She's sure Kara will be faster. So she flings some dirt toward the spear as she bolts for it. Trying to be ready for her ass to get kicked, frankly.

Kara Danvers has posed:
Kara's intentionally keeping her speed to human levels. Her first move is to tumble into a forward somersault to try and go low and grab the shaft of the spear as she comes up. She's uncertain about the dirt, as it's not really going to hinder her. But she'll let Mercy have the spear if they're close in speed.

Mercy Thompson has posed:
Mercy is way above human speed. So if Kara sandbags her speed. It's very likely Mercy will beat her to the spear. She smiles at Kara. "I'm fast, and not human Kara. But I'm not really strong as you and no healing or toughness really." She tests the grip on the spear and does a fast series of of quick lunges shifting left right and high low to try and see how Kara responds.

Kara Danvers has posed:
Kara's trying to treat it as if she were human, though as she sees how fast Mercy's moving, she'll up her own speed to match it. She backpedals from the spear, and uses her cape, grabbing the sides with her hands, and whipping it out like a towel to snag at it. "Well, that makes both of us." Being non-human, at least. "You're doing pretty well, though. You haven't been training long, right?"

Mercy Thompson has posed:
"With spear? A few months." The trick with the cape works on Mercy as she tries to twist and see if she can still land the tip against Kara, but she lacks the leverage or angle after Kara's block. The mechanic steps in and goes for as hard as she can side kick into Kara's side. She KNOWS the woman is bulletproof and NOTHING Mercy throws should hurt the blonde. "But I've been training to protect myself almost as soon as I could walk."

Kara Danvers has posed:
The whole point of it is to try and treat it as if you /weren't/ invulnerable. Sadly, Kara can't actually turn it off. She's focused on the spear, and she yanks hard to try and pull it out of Mercy's hands, but that means she gets caught by the side kick. Unfortunately for Mercy, that's basically like kicking a /wall/, and with as much give. The only thing she's likely to do is hurt her foot or ankle. Completely on point, and would probably have dropped a normal attacker, but...Kryptonian.

Mercy Thompson has posed:
Mercy expected it to be hard, but she feels that shock all the way through her legs and hips. OOF! It really loosens her grips and means the spear is pulled right out. She hops back fast and favors the leg slightly as she waits for the brief numbness to fade. She watches the blonde and says, "Damn Kara. Do you do a million sit ups." Still smiling and hopes the joke is taken in good humor. Mercy may have to pull her ace soon.

Kara Danvers has posed:
Kara grabs the spear in that instant, but then looks concerned and drops back several feet. "Are you all right? We can stop." she offers. "I'm not trying to hurt you." She can opt to ramp down her strength and her speed, but her invulnerability is a passive; it's just a fact.

Mercy Thompson has posed:
"I'm not that fragile, Kara. Thanks for the concern. Just underestimated just how solid you were. I'm used to kicking bigger and stronger, but you're a whole other class." Mercy will remember that. "I'll not break my wrist on you, don't worry." Mercy figures it is time to see if she can surprise the blonde bombshell. Mercy runs and goes for a quick jump. It may look like a jump kick. Then in an eye blink suddenly there isn't a human coming at her high speed. It's a coyote. One who's jaws are open and going for a quick bite right on the forearm. Mercy is just going for a nip, and not trying to rip or tear. She's pretty sure she'd break her teeth. Also she has to kick her legs a lot to try and get free of her clothes.

Kara Danvers has posed:
Kara spins the spear, and puts it butt-first, with the pointy end towards herself, as she thrusts at Mercy when she goes airborne. For most people, going airborne is a bad idea. You're open, and you're committed to that move; you can't change it midway. Except then, Mercy shapeshifts. The end of the spear ends up to the side of Mercy, and then she bites down on Kara's forearm. Unlike the kick, that gives way. It's exactly like it would be if Mercy bit anyone else. Kara yelps in surprise, and backs off, eyes wide. "Didn't know you could do THAT. I guess that explains all that silver."

Mercy Thompson has posed:
The MOMENT Mercy feels her fangs, and all thirty-five pounds of herself getting into that strike, bite into Kara's arm Mercy releases. She gracelessly tumbles to the ground and is shifting back to human so quickly, "Kara! Are you okay!? I... didn't think that be anything but some pressure on you." The mostly nude woman is looking at Kara's arm, the sparing done far as she cares. "I'm sorry," sincerity clear. "I got a kit downstairs if you need it."

Kara Danvers has posed:
Kara's voice is a little tight with pain, but she shakes her head. "I'll be fine. Must be magical." She smiles over to Mercy. She pulls back her sleeve, baring the arm to the sun. The series of puncture marks is very notable, but Mercy can see that exposed to the sun like that, the wound has pretty much stopped bleeding immediately.

Mercy Thompson has posed:
Mercy still mothers a bit over the wound and looks worried until the wound is closing up, seeing the sun is helping she makes sure to be out of the way. "I'm me. I didn't know that be a factor Kara." She will reach down to quick pull on her pants and underwear then tugs on her tank. She passingly notes the blood tastes different. "Didn't know you saw the silver. But I was raised by werewolves. Sort of became a thing to keep. Wolves tend to kill coyotes in their territory." Mercy's still a bit worried and feeling guilty. "I am so baking you a whole batch of cookies." She'll need it.

Kara Danvers has posed:
Kara is still clearly in pain, but it's healing at an accelerated rate; Mercy can tell that much. "I'll be fine, don't stress it. If I have to, I'll go fly up out of atmosphere and soak up some rays." The punctures have at least scabbed over. "You're doing pretty well with the training, though; that mid-jump shapeshift was good."

Mercy Thompson has posed:
"I'm glad the kick warned me to not bite harder. I was trying to be sure I didn't break my teeth and wanted to be sure you felt them firmly." Mercy smiles at the girl trying to make HER feel better when she is the one who drew blood in a friendly spar. "A gift of being what I am. Most werewolves take a while to shift and for me it's quick. I tried to watch myself in the mirror but my eyesight sort of fuzzes in that split second." Mercy has an unopened bottle of water and brings it over if Kara wants to wash it or drink it. "What is your favorite cookie type?"

Kara Danvers has posed:
No hesitation. "Chocolate chip or jelly thumbprint." Kara answers. "Normally I'd offer to help, but with me possibly bleeding I should stay away from the food." she smiles wanly.

Mercy Thompson has posed:
"I'll make you some of both," promises Mercy. She grabs her things and says, "Come inside please. I will let you get something on the arm if you like. We can talk and I'll start baking." She motions to the side of the roof that is close to the door to her home. "But yeah that big cat door is for my other form."

Kara Danvers has posed:
Kara grins a little. "Well, I think it's genius. And I promise I won't ask to pet you." She moves to walk inside. "But, yes, my invulnerability doesn't apply to magic."

Mercy Thompson has posed:
"I must have to work on my look if I'm petting resistant," laughs Mercy. "I'm not like a werewolf or those with a wild animal inside. I'm always me. If I run on instinct too long it can feel a little weird to get out of that mode." She holds the door open and lets them in before shutting the door. Mercy gets a well used medical kit out, one that's well stocked and says Mercy gets into scrapes semi often. "Here you go," setting the case down and open. "I was born the way I am. Mom came to change my three month old self's diaper and found a coyote pup in the crib."

Kara Danvers has posed:
Kara waves off the kit. "I'll be okay." She pauses, and blinks. "Or am I going to turn into a coyote on the full moon now?" she asks. She hadn't even thought of that before.

Mercy Thompson has posed:
"You're safe," laughs Mercy. "I'm not like that. I'm just me, I'm not a were. I call myself a Walker. Not a skin-walker though. That's something nasty." She motions to herself, "I'm half Native American and get it from my dad's side of the family. He died before knowing mom was pregnant. Not really met another like me. But I can't 'infect' anyone. I'm just a normal coyote more or less. I'm much faster then most, a bit stronger, but no tougher." She is in the kitchen and already measuring out dry ingredients into a bowl for cookies.

Kara Danvers has posed:
Kara nods. "Well, let's chalk that up in the win column. I mean, I'm sure it's fun being a coyote, but I've already had enough work trying to be a human." She grins. "Is there anything I can do that doesn't involve me being near the food itself?"

Mercy Thompson has posed:
"Sorry to worry you, and had no idea I could have hurt you like that." Mercy looks over at Kara apologetically. "I can relate to the whole 'learning to be human' stuff." She nods to the over, "Pre-heat to three fifty for me please? Also there should be some trays we can get out for cooling." She sniffs the air and tries to see if Kara's at least done bleeding. "I won't tell you how long it took me to realize things that humans don't do that I do. We could likely share stories."

Kara Danvers has posed:
Kara nods, and she moves over to the oven. She narrows her eyes slightly, as the red beams lance out from her eyes, quick-heating the box, as she sets it to three-fifty so it'll keep it there. "Tell me about it. I embarassed the heck out of my cousin once in his secret identity because of it.

Mercy Thompson has posed:
"For me one of the things that's tough for me is darkness." She looks over at Kara as Mercy keeps working. "I see way better at night then normal people. I realize that. Hearing and smelling as well, but it's the night vision I have trouble remembering how blind they can be." Mercy will shake her head at some past memories. "That one still gets me from time to time."

Kara Danvers has posed:
Kara nods. "I see /through/ things." She explains. "And hear and see at superhuman levels. That's something to hide all the time. And then there's the...trying to pretend something hurt when it didn't and didn't even leave a mark." Kara sighs. "Not to mention walking through the world like it's made of cardboard." Yeah, THAT.

Mercy Thompson has posed:
"Bet I see things you don't," jokes Mercy as she starts to put her arms to work in mixing up the batter then hesitates and hands the bowl over. "Even smooth consistency, no big lumps." Mercy starts to get a second batch of stuff going as she measure outs more. "I can't relate to the carboard thing. For me it is usually just trying to adapt and blend in. Coyotes are good at that. But knowing that much as my mother, step sisters, as much as I love them and they accept me. They'll never understand what it means to be.... other." Mercy shrugs a bit.

Kara Danvers has posed:
Kara looks amused. "Mercy, I'm a Kryptonian. I'm other in a way that only three other people in the galaxy can relate to." She smiles a little wryly. "Last of my kind and all that."

Mercy Thompson has posed:
Meryc says, "Least you have three people to relate to you Kara." She shrugs and says, "I have yet to meet someone like me. Sure there's werewolves but they're not like me. They were human and changed." She points to the bowl, "If you don't mix your cookies won't get made." She can't help, "How can you be 'last of your kind' if you got three others?" She's unable to quip a bit at the blonde.

Kara Danvers has posed:
Kara nods, and will start stirring. "Okay, ALMOST last of my kind." She rolls her eyes once, and works the batter. At least her arm won't get tired. "Besides, if there's you, there can be people like you. After all, there's people and coyotes." She smiles.

Mercy Thompson has posed:
"It's from my father's blood, but the tribe never heard of 'Joe Old Coyote' before." She goes and gets a baking sheet and some paper out on it then put them in the oven to warm up. "Must be nice to not need oven mitts," notes Mercy. "But if you ever find another Native America who turns into an animal. Give them my number."

Kara Danvers has posed:
Kara smiles. "It is, kind of. And I'll keep my eyes open. I can't say I've ever met another were-anyone. We didn't have were-things back home." She winks.

Mercy Thompson has posed:
Mercy will nod to the oven, "When it is time you can pull that out and put them back in then." She figures since they're sharing Mercy should share the other thing. "It just be nice to have someone that can share or talk about things with me. Tell me what I can or can't do. I mean, do I live longer? I know I live longer then your typical coyote. Just a whole lot of questions." Mercy will swap bowls with Kara to let her mix the second one as she gets some of the chocolate chips to add to the batter. "So what is your favorite thing about being from another world?"

Kara Danvers has posed:
"How do I know when they're done?" Kara looks to the oven. "Is there a timer or something?" She hands over the bowl and takes the second, starting to stir. "All the crazy things I can do here, obviously. I mean...being superpowered IS pretty cool."

Mercy Thompson has posed:
Mercy will point at a timer in answer to the question. "I'll set that for us. Only takes about ten minutes." She will nod to the sky, "flying I'm guessing is one of them. You smell of lightning to me. I should tell you, I know your scent pretty well now, so if I meet your secret identity I will know right away. But I like to think I'm good at keeping secrets."

Kara Danvers has posed:
"We live in different cities, so I don't think there's a lot of chance of that happening, but I appreciate your discretion." Kara smiles. "There's only, you know, four million people just in THIS city."

Mercy Thompson has posed:
"I met you, Wonder Woman, and Spider-Man in one week. You have no idea how trouble and my luck works. Don't be surprised if I end up with a delivery to Metropolis and bump into you somehow." Mercy will ask, "Get me the sheets form the oven please? I'll portion them and you can put them in."

Kara Danvers has posed:
Kara grins. "All right." She sets the bowl down, then walks over, and grabs the trays out of the oven before looking around. "Where do I set them?" They may not burn her, but they're still oven hot; she can't just set them anywhere.

Mercy Thompson has posed:
"Just on the range," as she will start to move quickly to put the little balls of dough on the tray. Mercy will work fast, not hiding her speed even if it is still slow by Kara's scale. Mercy can't help but glance to the forearm she bit earlier a flash of guilt. "You want me to let you lick the spoon clean?"

Kara Danvers has posed:
Kara sets the trays atop the oven, and then grins. "Do people do that? I've never gotten to do that." She smiles. "That sounds fun."

Mercy Thompson has posed:
"Really?!" Mercy gets out a small spatula, "Here. And yes we really do that. Enjoy it all. I'll finish working on the rest." Mercy will insist that Kara gets this experience to enjoy raw cookie dough. "I seriously doubt you have to worry about a lot of things humans do.'

Kara Danvers has posed:
"Kryptonians weren't into baking cookies. And I only have one other friend who bakes cookies, and she's never baked them when I'm there, just offered me cookies after they were baked. So this is my first cookie spoon." Kara explains, amused.

Mercy Thompson has posed:
"Enjoy it!" Mercy grins as she nods to the bowl. "I'm almost ready for the for you to thumb print the next batch and pick the jelly type you want." Mercy nods to the cupboard where her jam is, knowing Kara can see it without opening. She will then set out some more baking sheets. "Should I invite you over sometime when I bake them again? I could always howl out for you. I'm told you can hear it for miles."

Kara Danvers has posed:
Kara grins a little. "We have multiple types?" She looks over, her eyes piercing the door easily enough to see what's in there. "And yes. I can hear a long way. If I'm anywhere around New York, just shout my real name, I'll probably hear it."

Mercy Thompson has posed:
Mercy has a few types of preserves, none are default store bought either. She is a fan of the more real types. There's grape, strawberry and cranberry. Mercy is still working as she watches Kara out of the corner of her eye. "Howling is more fun, but I'll remember that."

Kara Danvers has posed:
Kara grins a little. "Okay, this is all mixed." She offers over the bowl, watching. "This is kind of enjoyable. I invited my friend Vivian to cook, but she doesn't eat, so that's a little less fun."

Mercy Thompson has posed:
"Cooking was often a way for people to sort of share experiences and build relationships. But I never thought how it may matter less if you can't eat the shared efforts." Mercy will see about taking the bowl and puts more paper on the sheets to get big dollops of batter spaced out evenly. "Baking is also my way of dealing with stress. I like fixing things and mixing separate things together and making something tasty appeals to me in some way."

Kara Danvers has posed:
"I don't really have a good way of doing that. I keep so busy that I don't really leave myself down-time, usually. This is probably the longest break I've taken in a while."

Mercy Thompson has posed:
"You should really not work yourself too hard. You seem too young to not have fun," suggests Kara. "I always like to go off for a run now and then. Sort of let my hair down as it were and ignore life for a few hours. Helps me stay focused or from going nuts." Looking over once most of the cookies are on the pan, "do you not have anything you do for fun?"

Kara Danvers has posed:
"I've got a job in my secret identity, plus I help in a school, plus I have the Supergirl thing..." The blonde ticks things off on her fingers. "Plus I've been trying to spend time with my friends."

Mercy Thompson has posed:
"Is that last one not.... fun?" Mercy sounds worried about that idea as she nods to the tray, "thumb?" Going to get a few spoons and the jars of jelly and jams out for the last step of these cookies. "If you ever want just to chill for a brief bit. You can always swing by here. Even to just bake."

Kara Danvers has posed:
The blonde smiles. "It is. I just don't to get to do it enough, and it's also...new territory for me." She smiles at that. "Just push a hole in them?"

Mercy Thompson has posed:
"Well not through the cookie." Mercy will go and do one cookie. She puts a small divot into the cookie. "Do it like that if you can. Then you can put whatever flavor inside you want. Then when it is time we'll put them in the oven." Mercy grins wide, "then we get to smell the cookies and enjoy them later." She's excited about that part.

Kara Danvers has posed:
Supergirl watches, then grins. "So, get someone with big hands." She'll put thumbprints on them, and will move over to the cupboard with the jellies. "What's your favorite flavor?"

Mercy Thompson has posed:
"You can always cheat and do TWO thumb prints," she suggests. "I like them all," letting Kara pick her own. "They're all pretty fresh as well. I got to buy them after I got a big payday from work not long ago."

Kara Danvers has posed:
Kara grins and will do that so she gets more jelly. She finally settles on strawberry, for the cookies, taking that jar and offering it to Mercy. "Here we are."

Mercy Thompson has posed:
Mercy opens the jar and hands Kara a spoon. "Jam them up. I'll help and then you got more spoons to lick." She will do the same. Each of them getting a dozen cookies as Mercy made two dozen of each cookie type. She will lick her own jam clean and lets Kara have the spoons before putting dishes into her sink to rinse. She's delighting in the reactions Kara is having.

Kara Danvers has posed:
The blonde starts putting in healthy dollops of jelly to each cookie, before licking the spoons, and moving to put them in the sink. "Very tasty." She smiles to Mercy. "I wish this was something I'd done when I was younger. Earth has a lot of things it still has to get right, but it has a lot it does right, too."

Mercy Thompson has posed:
Mercy notes there is a clear sweet tooth to Kara. She nods to the couches as they have a few minutes before the first cookies are done. "We can sit on the couch while we wait. We just have to take out the first batch, and put the second batch in for fifteen minutes then your cookies will be baked." Of course Mercy's cat is stretching at hearing about 'couches' because that means laps.

Kara Danvers has posed:
"Sure." Kara walks over towards the couch, and moves to sit, tucking the cape as she does so that doesn't get pinned awkwardly. She smiles and leans back. "Is there anything I can do, since you're being so kind as to make me cookies? Any favors I can do you in repayment?"

Mercy Thompson has posed:
"The cookies you earned and are to easy my guilt for hurting you." Mercy has to wait as Medae takes the couch and then seeks to be in the warm Kryptonian's lap. Once that's done Mercy can have a seat. "So I guess if you feel you need to do something, then ask questions? Tell me what else you want to try that humans do, and maybe if it won't be painful, tell me of your home." She tucks a leg under her and seems to relax.

Kara Danvers has posed:
"Krypton?" Kara asks in surprise. "It was, well, obviously far away. We were very scientifically advanced, but very emotionally sterile." she says. "Showing emotions, physical relationships like they do here...that wasn't something we did, really."

Mercy Thompson has posed:
"Sounds... sterile." Mercy tries to be diplomatic. Even if she didn't mean to pry right now. She takes a bit to undo her hair braid and shake it out, reach for a brush to start combing carefully. "I'm glad you got to try cookies. I'm not sure how good a guide a non-human Walker is as a guide to being human like, I'll do my best however."
