Cast of Characters: Helena Bertinelli, Karolina Dean

Helena Bertinelli has posed:
Helena Bertinelli was in Manhattan for a teacher's conference at NYU. It was a welcome change from teaching classes, particularly as the holiday season begins to get into motion. It was always an indication that winter break was just around the corner when this conference comes up on the schedule.

Having spent the morning in several presentations and lectures, there was a break for lunch before a two hour final session before it concluded.

She'd come back from getting lunch a little early and took the chance to stand in the atrium area of the lecture hall, enjoying the chance to do anything but sit even more. She has her phone out, catching up on messages and texts. Also checking that no urgent Birds of Prey situations have come up that would require her to get back to Gotham immediately.

Satisfied the world is not ending, Helena tucks her phone away and leans on a window frame, looking out at the cold November day and all the activity on NYU's campus beyond. She still has 10 minutes before going back in.

Karolina Dean has posed:
A common sight around campus is a certain blonde beauty. Well, to be fair, there are more than a few of those! But one in particular occasionally gets stopped for questions about one thing or other and sometimes rarely, an autograph? For the moment, though, she's looking over a tablet as she walks in circles for the next set of presentations before conclusion. She had, herself, given a small presentation on a hands-on teaching methodology when it came to classes in her field: Which end up being agriculture and culinary arts.

For now, though, it seems she's just keeping up on some campus news. Karolina herself is dressed for the cold, having some manner of fur-lined boots and tights that clearly have extra insulation added. THere's a tank top under her jacket, which is also fur-lined. Those who know her proclivities know it's all synthetic or cotton mix. "Well I'm glad I didn't miss Olsen's retirement announcement..." she muses to herself, walking past Helena with a little sway in her step.

At best, she's still more of a teaching assistant than a teacher, but she's got the chops to offer insight and put together a good panel.

Helena Bertinelli has posed:
Helena Bertinelli hears the voice and turns from the window. Seeing Karolina, she offers a smile.

"Your presentation was very insightful. Thank you for sharing it. I teach highschool english but I look forward to seeing where I can put some of what you shared into use." Another smile and she offers, "I'm Helena Bertinelli from Gotham City Schools."

Karolina Dean has posed:
The sound of a voice directed at her makes the blonde pause. She pivots on her foot and turns to face Helena. The young woman's smile is positively radiant, and she laughs just as brightly. "Is that so? I'm glad you found some use for it! Everyone has different teaching methods, and especially learning methods. But there's great, interactive ways to turn dry subjects into something easier to digest...." she nods, then offers her hand.

"Karolina Dean," she says with that smile firmly in place. "I'm still a student here, overall, but I like making waves in ways that will benefit the student and faculty alike! I think I saw you last year?" she asks, tilting her head to the side, artfully hugging her tablet to her chest with her other arm and freeing her hand to tuck some long hair behind her ear.

Helena Bertinelli has posed:
Helena Bertinelli shakes the hand warmly. It seems likely that she has a stronger grip than she is choosing to use in the greeting; politeness after all.

"It's nice to meet you Ms. Dean." She nods, "I'd agree. If it can be made more interesting then the students - of whatever age - are going to be more engaged and invested in learning. Finding that approach is as much a challenge as having a prepared outline for the class."

Another nod, "I was, actaully, yes." The smile shows she is impressed the younger woman remembered her from a year prior.

Karolina Dean has posed:
Karolina herself has a rather firm handshake, and she takes very, very good care of her skin. Smooth, soft, and warm. "I admit I can't imagine how you'll apply it to Engslish class of all things. But that's why being a teacher is so rewarding, right? Finding things that work and stick?" She draws her hand back after the shake, not letting it overstay its welcome. "I think in the end I"m just happy to see that people are willing to try new teaching methods versus the old... tried and true..." she sighs. "People just don't work that way. Students, I mean. Spending forty hours a week with your nose in a textbook doesn't cut it these days."

She shakes her head, then laughs, "I knew it! I never forget a pretty face," she winks, playful and warm. "So you're sticking around for the last few panels and presentations too?" she hugs the tablet to her chest with both arms now, still swaying some, like there's music playing in her head and she can't keep her body still.

Helena Bertinelli has posed:
Helena Bertinelli smiles. "Well it may not be a one to one application but I'm always willing to try different things. If they work, I'm not too proud to take advantage of them. We're all in this to teach and help kids learn. The more options that are available to use, the better the chance to reach those kids who struggle with traditional learning methods."

She laughs, "Well thank you." Her eyes sparkle with amusement then she nods. "MM, yes. I've got to for full credit. Though I'm going to fit in some shopping after the conference ends. It's too nice a day to pass up shopping in Manhattan at this time of year. The decorations are already coming out for the holidays!"

Karolina Dean has posed:
There's a little hop in Karolina's movements at that further mention of post-conference activities. She pushes her legs and feet together and pushes up on her toes for a little bounce. "Oh! That's what I was planning too!" she says, her own eyes shining bright. "Want to pair up? I need to pick up some decorations for my apartment and a new scarf, maybe grab some lunch." The blonde is grinning ear to ear right now.

"You've been to New York before, have you ever been to Chelsea Market? It's wonderful, especially this time of year!" she tilts her head to the side slightly, sounding like she's got enough excitement for the both of them.

Helena Bertinelli has posed:
Helena Bertinelli laughs. "Well it seems like too good a day to -not- go shopping, right?" Glancing at her watch to keep track of time for the next session starting, she offers a nod. "Sure. It's always more fun to go shopping when there's someone else to conspire with." Because shopping is always about planning for one thing or another, even if it's in that very moment.

"I've been a few times but not in a while. I wonder if they have their holiday decorations out yet" she considers out loud. "It sounds like fun."

Karolina Dean has posed:
"They should," Karolina nods. "What do you like to eat?" she asks, though she does idly follow Helena's gaze to her watch. She subconsciously tilts her tablet to look at it. "Though we should probably get back in the auditorium, huh? Two more hours of poorly padded chairs," she gives a lopsided smile and offers her hand to the other woman. "Wanna grab a seat together or do you have some colleagues from Gotham you're running in a pack with?" she asks playfully.

Helena Bertinelli has posed:
Helena Bertinelli nods, "Yes. I need to stop and get a bottle of water. It's so dry in there." Then she offers a smile. "I'm here on my own today. Most of the other teachers picked other conferences to attend." She shrugs, "Their loss."

She smiles. "Sitting together would be nice. It'll make it easier to coordinate going to the Market once the conference ends too."
