Cultures Meet and Lessons are Learned
Date of Scene: 08 April 2023
Location: Lorna's Room
Synopsis: Yukio has questions for Lorna which end up being epiphanies.
Cast of Characters: Lorna Dane, Yukio

Lorna Dane has posed:
It's a lazy Saturday afternoon with the clouds hanging low but sparce enough that the sun shines brightly enough to warrant the pool being a good idea. Lorna is one such person, wearing a two piece bikini with a colorful translucent sarong covering her waist down to get calfs. The green haired woman steps out of her room with a towel in one hand and her phone in the other.

Yukio has posed:
Why the hell is Yuki all the way up here? Looking for Lorna, apparently. She's not exactly -lurking- outside of the Queen of Genosha's room, but she is in the hallway. She's wearing a black, long sleeved skater dress with candy pink around the hem and cuffs of her sleeves, black overknees and violently purple unicorn slippers. It cannot be stated enough how violently purple those things are.

She's almost timid as she shuffles up to the pool-bound Lorna, ducking her head in both respect and apology. "Sorry for bothering you, but ....I had some questions about Genosha. I know I could have read about it, but I think I'd rather have a ... live perspective."

Suddenly, she flushes pink and takes a step back, waving her hands in front of her. "You know what, nevermind. You have plans and I was very rude. I'm sorry!" She pauses. "Your swimsuit is lovely." She starts to back away, ducking her head in apology. That was quick.

Lorna Dane has posed:
"Jesus what the fuck Christ!" Lorna says jumping almost out of her skin at the suddenness of Yukio appearing. The monarch takes a moment to catch her composure again but then let's out a sigh. She dropped her phone in her shock but is bending at the knees to pick it off the ground. "Yukio was it? I saw you singing in Alison's studio the other night. Quite a lovely voice you have." Lorna compliments, and then keeps walking.

"Join me and ask what you will." Lorna says with a hint of amusement in her tone, "But ask all you want now, because it's rare to find a queen so... available."

Yukio has posed:
Yuki stops retreating, wincing slightly at the dropped phone. She feels bad now. Worse, even. First, she bothered Lorna, second, she scared her and third, she dropped her phone! It's mortifying.

But she agrees to it anyway. And -compliments- her. Yukio blushes fiercely, face almost matching the tips of her hair. "T-thank you, ma'am," she stammers.

Her eyes widen at the invitation, and she falls into step with Lorna, behind and a little to the left. It almost seems reflexive, like she barely even notices doing it. "Um," she starts, screwing her face up in thought. "What was it like there ... before the incident?"

Lorna Dane has posed:
Lorna lifts a hand to her chin in thought. "I didn't live or even visit the island before the attack, but having done some research on my own, it was a beautiful tropical island with a major flaw that the mutants on the island were all slaves." The monarch says with a frown.

A glance over her shoulder shows her that Yukio is in fact much more than what she leads on. How the Asian is far more trained than Lorna had ever anticipated, but she stays quiet for now.

Yukio has posed:
All of this, the bubbly cheerfulness, the cute aesthetic, all of it is a mask. A mask she wears so hard that it's almost impossible to tell that there's anything underneath. No matter how much she wants to deny it, there's a killer under there. She never wants it to get loose again.

She follows dutifully, silent on her feet. Her face wrenches into a grimace. "Slaves? That's ....terrible," she says, sounding horrified. "Why? How did that happen? We...we should be strong enough to stop that..."

Lorna Dane has posed:
"It was terrible, but then someone came along and freed them." Lorna says with a glance down to the side with a frown to herself. Hard to view her deadbeat dad as an emancipator and unifier. And yet that's what he did. She bites her lip and looks back to Yukio. "I'd wager you know a thing or two about pasts that aren't exactly the most pleasant?" The monarch twists her head to face Yukio and to read the young woman's expression.

Yukio has posed:
Were this for school, she'd be writing things down. Instead, her hands are clasped in front of her, hanging down in front of her hips. She has clearly done this walk before. Possibly not with a queen, but certainly as a subordinate to someone important.

She knows who emancipated Genosha. Magneto, Lorna's father. She also understands why the older woman doesn't mention him by name. Sometimes family is hard. She knows this for an absolute fact.

"I...I do. Yes. I've done ... terrible things out of duty."

Lorna Dane has posed:
"Yukio, I can tell you very much don't want to be that person, but it seems you don't know who else you are allowed to be." Lorna says, stopping mid stride to turn and face the younger woman. "We can not deny our pasts, but we don't have to continue them. Learning who to be is the hardest part. Trust me on that. So, Yukio, who do you want to be?"

Yukio has posed:
"I'm not that person anymore," Yuki says with a shrug. "I ...still have those skills, but I won't kill anymore." She meets Lorna's gaze when she turns around, looking ^^up at the taller woman. (Everyone is taller than Yuki, she's used to it.)

"I want to be ... this. Happy. Cute. In love with life and everything about it. Caring about people. What's...left of who I was won't ever leave, but I don't have to let it define me."

Lorna Dane has posed:
"You're right Yukio, but life will always present you challenges to your ideals. Time and time again. Yukio, I'm here to help with this life of yours and everyone else here too." The monarch says with a deep breath. She wants to help mutants, like herself, like Yukio, like... all those people back on Genosha...

There's a click in Lorna's head, that's what she needed. An epiphany. A dawning of greater realization. She leans forwards quickly to give Yukio a peck on the cheek, "Thank you Yukio." She says before turning and moving down the hallway still. Of course she still intends to relax.

Yukio has posed:
Yuki blushes under the scrutiny of kindness. She looks away, embarassed and bashful. This did not go the way she was expecting, honestly. She was going to ask questions about Genosha, learn about the genocide, get sad and go eat ice cream. This was literally her plan.

Ice cream is still happening.

She blushes even harder at the peck on her cheek. "I...didn't do anything!" Yuki exclaims as Lorna keeps heading towards the pool. She takes a few steps after her, then stops. She looks unsure if she should keep following, or if that was a sense of finality. Conversation over.

She takes a gamble and resumes following in complete silence. Not talking, her feet making no sound. If Lorna sends her away, she'll leave, but the Queen is mysterious and engaging at the same time.

Lorna Dane has posed:
The queen resumes her stride to the pool, her hips bouncing hard with her booty swaying beneath the sarong. She isn't aware of Yukio following her, or she doesn't seem to notice.

Yukio has posed:
Yukio follows Lorna for another moment, realizing that the thread has been lost, the Queen stuck in her own head for the moment. She stops in the hallway, watching her go for a moment, possibly a touch longer than is proper. Then she shrugs and her feet tae her elsewhere.

Specifically the kitchen to eat too much ice cream and ruminate on things. The ice cream always helps.
