Nettie's Tea: Investigate the Scene of the Crime
Date of Scene: 26 June 2023
Location: Dee's Room - Bulwark Nursing Home
Synopsis: Detective Chimp pays a visit to the Bulwark Nursing Home to investigate Dorothy's room.
Cast of Characters: Nettie Crowe, Detective Chimp

Nettie Crowe has posed:
The Bulwark Nurisng Home was a bit abuzz; after the sudden death of one of its most senior residents at 103, and the subsequent ins-and-outs of the next of kin remaining, Dorothy Smithfield nee Dorothy Bell was gone, and the oly thing that wasn't found among her possessions was a really, really creepy doll.

The room has been riffled through by workers at least once looking for it, in case the family wanted it back -- though no one could really recall when the seriously ugly doll showed up.

Detective Chimp has posed:
Detective Chimp has come by to talk to the people here. He has expected the normal hassle of showing he is legit, he has his paperwork, license as a PI, and his card showing where he works. He had made sure not to be smelling of booze before he came, had even shampooed his fur and washed his hat. He walks in and asks to speak to the manager of the home.

Nettie Crowe has posed:
It was one thing for a gray-haired young woman and a very serious looking nurse coming in to see a resident -- something else entirely when you have to lean over your desk to see what appears to be a chimp in a deerstalker asking for the manager, and presenting a license identifying him as an investigator.

So the manager of the building is buzzed, and from out of some office or another comes a particularly harangued looking man with gray hair, busyily trying to tie a tie on with a discheveled appearance, looking as if he had tried to finish up some previous business and it wasn't going well.

"Good afternoon Detective." he states, his shoulders sagging. "Are you investigating on behalf of the Smithfields as well?

Detective Chimp has posed:
Detective Chimp looks to the man and says "I am investigating for an interested party. Ms. Smithfield's age has a few interested parties, from those in local government to even some news stations from what I have been told. I am hoping to keep this investigation more low key to keep any odd press from coming to your home. I am willing to give you a copy of my findings" Some of them at least. he thinks. "And hopefully it will be of use if someone else comes nosing around." He does look about to see if he recognizes anyone, himself being 72 years old he may know a few folks here from years ago.

Nettie Crowe has posed:
"Ugh. Very well then." the man states, defeated sounding, and motions with a hand. "Would you care to step into my office to discuss things, or were you going to go to the room?" he asks, adjusting his nametag that just labels him GEORGE, and he looks to Detective Chimp.

"As far as any medical exam has stated, Mrs. Smithfield expired of natural causes. Old Age."

Detective Chimp has posed:
Detective Chimp looks to the man and says "Well let me have a look at the room and then I will come by your office and talk to you about things that have happened. Are you ok with me chatting with some of the other residents while I am here?

Nettie Crowe has posed:
"Of course -- as long as it's nothing that we need to contact their families regarding, mind you." he states, and motions down the way.

"It's the one with the yellow bow on the handle. Have to be sensitive, you know.

Detective Chimp has posed:
Detective Chimp nods his head and will head down towards the room. The good detective is already looking about. He knows the room will have been searched and finding anything in there is not a good chance, but looking for things out of place on the way there, with the residents, that might be different. He knows he will get stares and is prepared for that, and even if some of the residents have odd behaviors, he is looking for suspicious things like folks being nervous he is going there. He does also watch the staff as well.

Nettie Crowe has posed:
"... nurse -- NURSE. There's a MONKEY walking in the hall!" one resident protests as he's wheeled into his room.

"There's no monkey, Mr. Zimmerman. Let's get some lunch with your friends, okay?"

The ape ace is permitted into Dorothy's room.

It's been straightened out, but there are things that are somewhat out of place. THe bed has been stripped, a rainbow colored blanket knit with different granny squares folded and set at the foot of the bed. There used to be a chair in the corner -- the wall is less faded from sunlight there in the shape of an easy chair's shadow. There is still an upset sewing kit on top of the chest of drawers. Nothing seems to be terribly out of the ordinary, here.

Detective Chimp has posed:
Detective Chimp hmms and will take a moment getting any smells that might be in the room, he expects it to mostly be cleaners, but it is best to check these type of things. He then spends the first few minutes looking over mundane things unfolding the blanket before folding it and replacing it. Going through the sewing kit. He does make a note to ask about the chair. He looks through and behind the drawers, and through the sewing kit as well. Once the more mundane places are checked, he will end up climbing under the bed, checking for markings or things left there, checking the air vents. He even will close the curtains and turn off the light to get a look at the room in the dark.

Nettie Crowe has posed:
Definitely a lot of heavy cleaners; there was a dead person in the room, they want to make sure all the C-DIFF and possible MRSA were cleaned out and everything was sanitized. Most personal belongings have been packed away by now, much of the clothing labeled and inspected by the family. There doesn't seem to be anything special about the blanket (other than the fact that there is a label with just a black bird on it). UNder the bed there is nothing. The air vents are clean.

But when he closes the curtains and turns the light off, across the way there is a mirror that is glowing, at least on the surface.

Someone has used glow-in-the-dark paint to make hearts and stars all over it.

Detective Chimp has posed:
Detective Chimp hmmms and will make sure to draw the designs in his little note book, and moves to check out the mirror. Looking into mirrors can be dangerous with the magical crowd, but if he wants to find out if it is more than just something that was done to give the old lady a smile at night he needs to check.

Nettie Crowe has posed:
The mirror seems to be very mundane. Even the lay out of the pictograms on it seems more haphazard than purposeful.

The mirror isn't even backed with silver; it's backed with aluminium.

There doesn't seem to be anything here in the room.

Detective Chimp has posed:
Detective Chimp will turn the lights on after finishing checking this out. Next he does check above the doorframe inside and out. Then he starts to look about to see if there is anyone here he knows, with one magic based person living here maybe there are others, and someone he has dealt with in the past.

Nettie Crowe has posed:
The place seems remakably clean, like someone with a little know-how went over it very well.

Outside, there's a TV lounge where some of the residents are taking in 1970's dramas, playing checkers (or Go) and one who is currently hard at work building a model Iron Man. It seems really quite boring and regular.

Detective Chimp has posed:
Detective Chimp will head over towards the one building the model, figuring if he likes heroes a talking Chimp maybe a little less startling for him. He comes up and clears his throat softly "Pardon me sir, but I was wondering if you might have a bit of time to talk to me about some things." He tries to keep professional but kindness in his voice.

Nettie Crowe has posed:
"Mm?" the old man questions, and then gives an 'oh!'

"Of course, of course, anything for a friend of Sherlock Holmes's!" he states with a friendly air, turning to properly look at Chimp with a smile, and steeples his fingers. "How can I be of service?"

Detective Chimp has posed:
Detective Chimp will move to have a seat, and says "Yes, I strive to be up to the great detective's work." He offers wit a smile and offers his hand "I am Detective Chimp, and I am looking into if anything odd has been going on around here of late." He offers in explanation.

Nettie Crowe has posed:
"Hrm. Well, I haven't seen Dee around these last few days. She was a nurse, you know, in the second world war, when I was just a boy. She's sharp, though. Still had all her memory, even could do a dance or two. Didn't care too much for this new-fangled music though, this rap stuff."

Detective Chimp has posed:
Detective Chimp nods his head a bit to this and does not have the heart to explain to the man she has died, besides if he is not thinking about that it might allow him to be a bit more thoughtful. "Oh, did you spend much time with Dee? A bit of a popular person was she?"

Nettie Crowe has posed:
"Well, when you get to be a hundred and three, you don't keep many friends. Or talk much. But dee, she sometimes had the energy of someone thirty years younger. Remarkable woman. She's been sick, though, hasn't she?" the man considers. "Ah, yes. She received a package, from one of her grandkids, I think. About a week back."

Detective Chimp has posed:
Detective Chimp 's brow raises a bit about this and says "Oh, one of them sending a care package, with some cookies or something in it?" He asks the gentleman. He is keeping an eye on the man to see how cognative he is, but also seeing if anyone is watching them.

Nettie Crowe has posed:
"Hrm... was it cookies? No, no I don't think it was anything edible. The nurses make such a fuss over edible items. Can't tell what's in them see?" he states thoughtfully.

"No, I don't think it was cookies."

Detective Chimp has posed:
Detective Chimp nods a bit and says "So, she did not say what it was or anything? I can imagine the nurses make a fuse about a lot of things. I know I have to curb a few things while I am here myself." HE admits.

Nettie Crowe has posed:
"No, no I don't recall if she said what was in it or not... but she got real quiet the day after. She seemed a little lost and said she couldn't remember something, but couldn't figure out what it was that she couldn't remember. First time I've seen her be cloudy, you know? '

Detective Chimp has posed:
Detective Chimp nods his head a bit to this and says "Well that is something I will have to see what I can find out about that. You remember anything about her having a doll, or what might have happened to the chair that was in her room?"

Nettie Crowe has posed:
"Oh? Her chair is gone?" the man frowns a moment "It must have needed to be cleaned. They don't take furnature out unless it needs to be cleaned or... or the person passed away." he pauses, and then a look of sadness crosses his face.

Detective Chimp has posed:
Detective Chimp will reach over and gently pats the man's hand trying to comfort him "I am sorry." He offers his sympathy

Nettie Crowe has posed:
"Oh, oh, no it's all right. Dorothy was old. So old. She must have finally just tired out, the poor girl. Well. I'm sure, no matter what, she's with her husband and sons now." the gentleman says with kindness. "Thank you for caring about her. MOst of us don't have many who do."

Detective Chimp has posed:
Detective Chimp nods, a bit and says "Yea, it can be hard when you see those you know passing and your outliving them." There is something in Chimp's voice that tells he does know this pain. "Well I appreciate your help, maybe I can bring you another model by for your help. There one your looking for?" He nods towards the iron man.

Nettie Crowe has posed:
"Ah, yes. Captain America. I build them for my grandson. He's a bit of a superhero fan, but I don't get to see him much. So I send them to him." the old gentleman gives a small smile.

"Take care of yourself, Detective Holmes!"

Detective Chimp has posed:
Detective Chimp nods, and will do that and will even make sure when it is brought to the man it is signed and has a picture of Captain America signing it. Or at least he will try to. His next stop is to the managers office.

Nettie Crowe has posed:
The manager, George, is still in his office, going over paperwork and trying to find places to cut hours to save on pay. Eldercare is a cutthroat business, after all.

He looks up when Detective Chimp enters, and makes a face.

"Ah, you're still here. What else can we do for you, Detective Chimp?"

Detective Chimp has posed:
Detective Chimp looks tot he man and says "I was wondering if I could get a copy of the paperwork with her death, and Also, I noticed there was a chair missing from her room, may I ask what happened to it?"

Nettie Crowe has posed:
"Cleaned and dispatched back to the family, since they technically owned it. And no. You cannot get that information without a supena. Come back with the lawyer form and we can release it due to HIPAA violation clauses, yadda yadda." the manager replies, waving his hand.

Detective Chimp has posed:
Detective Chimp hmms and nods his head, he might be able to intimidate the man to get it or bribe him, but if he needs to he or someone he knows can sneak in to get it, and besides Nettie might already have it "They took the chair but not the rest of the stuff from her room?" He asks, to clarify this.

Nettie Crowe has posed:
"Chair's worth almost two thousand dollars. They wanted that back first, I'd wager." the manager replies, raising his eyebrows. "Now, if you have no further business, Detective?"

Detective Chimp has posed:
Detective Chimp hmms and nods a bit "Not for now, but if something comes to mind you think I should know." He offers his card to the man, already planning his trip to the tea house.

Nettie Crowe has posed:
"Absolutely, Detective Chimp. Thank you for your time and effort. I hope it will not be wasted." the gentleman states, and then the phone rings.
