A day of Maintenance
Date of Scene: 09 July 2023
Location: Garage and Stables
Synopsis: Sam and Laura catch a bit and make sure their rides are good.
Cast of Characters: Samuel Guthrie, Laura Kinney

Samuel Guthrie has posed:
Sam Guthrie is here in the garage, his truck and motorcycle both pulled into bays side by side. Seems Sam has today off and has decided it would be a good day to go over both vehicles, and give them a little love. He has just finished changing the oil in the truck, and is now moving over to the bike.

Laura Kinney has posed:
It's pretty rare for Laura Kinney to stop by the Mansion. But there being an autoshop she can use for basic maintenance (no she's not patching up bullet holes! Well not this time anyway...) and, as is the grand Xavier's tradition, she sometimes stops round to mooch off the school.

Only a little! It's not like she's taking up a room rent free.

She pulls in with her bike. A street legal racing motorcycle. High performance but not too fancy in terms of looks. X-23 spends her money on function not form.

She gives Sam a nod of greeting. Face not hidden by a helmet because Laura is an awful role model who doesn't do safety things.

Samuel Guthrie has posed:
Sam Guthrie looks over and nods in return to the woman "Hey, how ya been?" He asks as she pulls in. He himself has a restored WWII era motorcycle painted in black complete with a side car that is currently beside it but not attached.

Laura Kinney has posed:
"Eaten by a few sharks," Laura notes, a casual shrug as if to say no big deal. "Probably was some underwater villainy happening in the area but it wasn't my business. Went worse for the sharks than for me."

The whole shark thing probably made it into a few newspapers. Maybe online articles too. But it's unlikely anyone at Xavier's would be reading the Happy Harbour press.

"Yourself?" she asks. She glances down at her bike. And pre-empts the 'why are you at Xaviers' question by adding "Just here to check a few parts haven't taken too much wear and tear."

Samuel Guthrie has posed:
Sam Guthrie nods a bit and says "Same old mostly, been working, trying to help out around here. I know what ya mean about the bike, try to bring mine in once a month or so in the summer months to look at it. If ya need a hand let me know.

Laura Kinney has posed:
There's a shrug from Laura. "I will do sure," she replies. With the sort of tone which suggest it's not likely to happen. After all if no-one knows what she's looking at they can't tell anyone. "But it's all routine stuff."

Besides she has been known to use explosives in her anti-theft devices. Could they hurt Sam? Probably not. Would it be a lot of hassle if she blew up the Garage? Yes.

She props the bike up and scans the room for the tools she needs. "With Gabby having graduated I don't have many reasons to help out lately."

Samuel Guthrie has posed:
Sam Guthrie nods his head a bit and says "Yea, Ah still for some family here, but even if not Ah try to help out, flying classes or the whole Don't be like me avoid crashing into things." He jokes a bit and wipes his hands on a rag finishing up with the thing on his bike, before checking the next but still in chatting mode it seems.

Laura Kinney has posed:
"Crashing into things is sometimes tactically optimal," Laura notes. She did once steal a motorcycle and then crash it into the subway turn styles because it was the fastest way to reach a train with a bomb on it. "It really depends on your powerset."

And no it wasn't Laura's bomb. But yes it did explode. Safely at least.

Tools selected she starts what really is a very basic check for wear and tear! No mysteries this time. Probably.

Samuel Guthrie has posed:
Sam Guthrie nods a bit and says "Well for me and you it is a bit more of a viable situation that most. Ah won't get hurt and you will get better." He offers in understanding "But for those without those abilities it is probably a lot less used tactic.

Laura Kinney has posed:
"With the right training you can safely crash plenty of vehicles," Laura assures. "Trucks work best. Big, heavy, and you tend to be sitting up higher and get more protection."

There is a reason she's not a part time teacher.

"They also have plenty of space for moving equipment. In addition to being weapons themselves." Hopefully Xavier's hasn't got to the stage where Laura-esque training in defensive and offensive driving is not required though. Even if the drivers ed classes probably cause the teaching staff to experience similar manoeuvres. Probably unintentionally. Probably...

Samuel Guthrie has posed:
Sam Guthrie nods a bit and says "Yea prefer to use mine for moving stuff than moving into stuff." He admits with a grin. "So, where ya been keeping yourself, aint seen you or Gabby in a while."

Laura Kinney has posed:
"Gotham now and again," Laura says evasively. "But I have places all over. New York, Metropolis and even a few sites overseas." Not to mention passports and bags of cash in bus stations, air ports and train depots. A walking covert agent stereotype! "I go where my work needs me. Anywhere they're trying to clone me, Gabby or Logan..."

"I was in Happy Harbour not long ago. Before that hunting for intel in some New York dive bars. Lot of places you can meet an informant without anyone caring in the New York area." Although really the best place to meet someone without questions is Bludhaven. No Batman, no Avengers and cops who make Gotham PD seem trustworthy.

Samuel Guthrie has posed:
Sam Guthrie nods a bit to that and says "Well you know if you ever need the cops for anything in and around Bushwick give me a call, Ah'm with special unit, but Ah can get ya some help if ya needed a place raided or something as a distraction, as long as there is a reason to raid it or what not.

Laura Kinney has posed:
Laura Kinney actually laughs. Just a little. A chuckle really. "I'm hurt you'd think I need a distraction," she points out. "But I'll keep that in mind if there's ever a situation where it's appropriate." Or more likely to ensure the police armed response units are nice and far away when something happens. But still burning bridges with X-men involved with the police is not the primary go to option. It'd need to be a pretty big mission.

"To be honest if the police could help then I wouldn't need to involve myself personally. Corporate shell games, international black sites, and illegal research being done in international waters. All things the police aren't equipped to handle."

Samuel Guthrie has posed:
Sam Guthrie nods a bit and says "Yea, figured might be something where ya needed them to come help out some people who you got out of a jam or something like that mostly." He admits. You talked to Cable? He might have some contacts you could use when ya looking into the sneakier places.

Laura Kinney has posed:
Laura Kinney shakes her head. "Don't really know the guy," she replies. Which means she probably doesn't trust him all that much either. But that's okay. She doesn't trust most people. "Besides information from the future has risks of it's own. Am I changing the world to make it worse than his future already was? Have other changes happen which invalidate his intel? It's not worth the hassle involving myself with time travel."

She'd probably only do it if Gabby was in danger.

"You don't have to keep me company if you have other plans you know," she points out. "Unless there was a memo about leaving me alone with the facilities?"

Samuel Guthrie has posed:
Sam Guthrie chuckles abit and says "Not that Ah have seen, just trying to be friendly while fixing the bike, but Ah think Ah am going to get some tea, you want some?"

Laura Kinney has posed:
"Tea would be good if it's no trouble," Laura says after a moments consideration. "I did not wish to be rude. But I also appreciate there are many things which need doing around the school and only a limited number of people able to do them." Not everyone can travel around the world on quests for revenge. Otherwise nothing would ever get done.

She gives a little nod. Possibly in thanks for the offer of the beverage. And then gets to her work. That bike isn't going to fix itself!
