Cast of Characters: Joan Wright, Jacen Knight

Joan Wright has posed:
When it comes to New York City and it's ...uh diverse population of ideals, personalities, opinions and what not, there's going to be conflict. That could go for any location really but this city has a lot more people. And well, when you play the odds. Put your money on New York having the most eventful of days.

Case in point, today we find ourselves Larry's Laser Tag Emporium where one can spend hours running around on the multi-level arena, blasting away to their heart's content as they wear sensor vests and hold guns that are meant to trigger a light up, vibrating sensation when hitting the target. There are also base targets as well, ramps, plenty of padded walls.

Perfectly safe!

Well, almost. It appears today amongst a group of young teens someone found themselves getting hit more than others. And that was not a pleasant feeling. And unfortunately for them. It turns out, THIS was the time their abilities manifested.

There won't be much discussion to the what, but the end result is a support beam for one of the middle levels maaaaaaay no longer be stable. And the poor kid who manifested, well they're bettuh now, save for that beam pinning their leg. A couple calls have been placed. Most notably to 911. But being that the parent of one of the kids involved is pretty connected, a favor got called in. Which is probably why a solitary brown haired woman with a tiny little roomba shaped pink and blue bot hovering behind her walks in. The Damage Control employee glances around, and walks over to the collection of people. "Which level?", Joan asks.

Jacen Knight has posed:
911 brings the sirens. Lots of them. Police, Fire and Rescue, and EMS. Jacen climbs out of the shotgun position of the ambulance. He grabs a bag from the back and two others join him going towards the building. Fire and Rescue has to evaluate the safety before the medics are allowed in. Nothing worse than adding more patients.

Not the most patient person himself, Jacen strums his fingers on a rescue bag that has a small oxygen tank in it, so it is bound to be heavy. Still, he knows the wait is necessary and that the Fire & Rescue team has basic training.

The driver and the other medic start to shift about impatiently and his voice calmly tells them,"Y'all take't east. We'll get there when we get there." Not that he is a paragon of patience either, but at least he is waiting.

He glances at the Damage Control agent, looks a second time with a thoughtful frown. Not the sort to just mindlessly stare he turns his gaze back to the team. He gets random stares on the regular for different reasons so he doesn't like to do that to other people.

Joan Wright has posed:
As the first responders start to come in, Joan glances over, giving Jacen a silent nod of greeting. Upon being told which level the damage had taken place, the safety gear wearing employee starts to make her way, tugging out a tablet.

"Bailey, Please get a reading on what we're dealing with. Middle level. Alert of any structural issues."

The little pink and blue bot lifts up a manipulator in what seems like a vague 'thumbs up' and gives a quick chirp before zooming up, bypassing the ramps to head towards the middle level. Glance to the screen, Joan starts to make her way up the more human route.

Jacen Knight has posed:
The EMS team wait. You'd think they would be used to that since they don't ever enter a scene until it is secured, but it is still hard to wait. Stable or not a condition can change in a second.

Jacen checks the level in the tank and makes sure they are ready when the all clear is sent. He picks the brain of a firefighter that has been up there, getting the feel for the scene. She is busy, but stops long enough to tell him a little more specifics to the scene waiting for them.

When she leaves one of the medics comments,"Eye witnesses aren't always reliable." Jacen looks at him and replies,"No. Eye witnesses ta th' accident ain' usually reliable. A trained professional what c'n make a professional assessment are invaluable." He looks at the crestfallen rookie and adds,"Hang in there kid, y'r gettin' it. Jus' takes time."

Joan Wright has posed:
Upon reaching the upper level, Joan shakes her head before looking over to Fire and Rescue and then to the other responders. Another chirp from Bailey as she zooms back to the side of the employee makes her glance to the screen. She looks to the damage a bit more closely. "...Is it clear for me to just move the beam back? Not a traditional repair but it'll at least make it easier to move the patient and the area more stable." Sure they could probably do this themselves, but her way will be quicker. Annnnd at least she could justify her being given the rest of the day off for doing this 'favor' call.

Jacen Knight has posed:
Jacen settles the pack over his shoulder again. Under his shirt he touches something and for those with spirit site the spectal image of a bear appears around him. The weight of the tank seems to get considerably less heavy for him. People around him don't notice because he's just standing there and waiting, physical eyes won't see the spectral bear and as big as Jacen is not many would blink that he can hold it for a long time.

Joan Wright has posed:
Getting the general go ahead, Joan steps over, close to the patient. "Speak up if I need to stop." She states. Fingers curling to make a bit of a finger gun, she swirls the pointed end towards the floor. As she does so, the beam resting on the patient starts to lift slowly. Taking a deep breath, her hand lifts, continuing to lift the beam away. Once it is a safe distance from the victim, the beam quickens in speed, settling back in place.

In a weird outcome, the beam remains there.

Joan steps back as fire and rescue check the work and give the all clear.

Jacen Knight has posed:
"That w's faster'n I figgered." Jacen mutters and the team goes in. Needless to say he is more than a little surprised that the kid isn't under the beam. They hit the floor and immediately start to work,"All right pardner, we're here ta help if y'r ok with that?" The kid nods and the team goes at it.

"Max look f'r bleedin', specially at th' impact site." he tells the rookie,"Tori get inline stabilization." He starts to work, airway, breathing, and circulation all established and he settles the mask into place so the kid can get better air,"Anyone seen a parent f'r th's kid. Legally we gotta have an ok if possible. I don' need crap fr'm a guardian later."

Joan Wright has posed:
Being that she's already here but already served her purpose, Joan keeps herself to a corner. Waiting until things are settled should there be a need for paperwork. In the meantime she busies herself with her tablet wile the little bot hovers right next to her.

"The parents are notified and on their way over." The venue owner states. "They estimated about 10 minutes depending on the subway. I have their contact number if you want to speak to them sooner."

Jacen Knight has posed:
Taking the number, Jacen grabs his phone and pushes the combination. He puts it on speaker and continues to make sure things are as they should be. A quick talk to the parents gets him the OK.

Suddenly the kid starts feeling a hurt that makes his shout. Jacen scowls and looks at the leg, no blood, bit the femur is fractured,"Shit..." he mutters. A nod to the rookie,"Manual stabilization." He looks at a firefighter and shouts,"Get me th' Sager splint off th' ambo. It's sittin' on the shelf to y'r left when you enter the back."

While the firefighter heads down to get what he needs, Jacen nods as the rookie settles on the floor, using his own leverage to relieve the pain, geting the broken bone out of the muscle.

Vitals go through him, making sure everything there is right and he tells the stabilizer,"Warn me at five." Getting the vitals written on his blue rubber glove with his pen and goes to more advanced examination.

Joan Wright has posed:
Joan glances up from her report, a curious eye setting upon the teen as they give out a shout. The tablet lowers slightly as she ends up watching Jacen and team tend to the victim. Considering the nature of her job, it is rare that she has a free moment to see this side of things. Usually she's reserved for the massive damage type calls.

Jacen Knight has posed:
The firefighter returns with a strange looking contraption and Jacen looks at the kid who is in less pain now,"Ah'ight brother, th's thing ain' terribly comfortable, but it will keep ya fr'm gettin' that pain again. How much do you weigh?"

The boys gives him a number and Jacen sets the splint. It actually catches the foot and pulls his leg straight away from his body, preventing the broken bone from sinking into his muscles again.

The splint sits right into his crotch so the kid raises a brow. Tori says something softly to him and Jacen doesn't look up as he tells him,"Promise ya we ain' gonna crush nothin' vital, jus' gonna be too close f'r comfort. The kid tries to nod, but Tori set a brace on his neck and stared running his vitals again,"OK.." he finally mutters.

Fire and rescue has a backboard for them and the team gets him onto a board and strapped down. Once the board is on the gurney, the other two medics start to take him down to the ambulance. Jacen takes a moment to look over the area and makes notes on the condition of the room for a later report,"I dunno how they got that thing off'm, but I woulda liked ta see it." he tells one of the firefighters.

Joan Wright has posed:
Once the kid is removed from the room, Joan goes back to her tablet, finishing up her general writeup. Upon the writeup's completion, the tablet is slid into her pocket.

To the statement, one of the firefighters who was present for the event gestures over to Joan and her bot. "She moved the beam back."

Jacen Knight has posed:
Jacen follows the indicated culprit and then back at the firefighter with a raised brow,"Do I wanna indulge you'n ask how that happened 'r you jus' gonna shrug?" The firefighter does shrug and moves on to more pressing matters. Curiosity. If there is any demons in his mind, that is the one.

He walks towards her and nods a little as he offers,"Hey. Can I talk to you a sec?"

Joan Wright has posed:
To the request to talk, Joan glances over to Jacen. Well. Up. Jacen does have a few inches on her. But as she saw him coming in. She's not all that startled.

The Damage Control employee gives a smile. "Sure. Do you need contact information for my portion of the report?"

Bailey lifts up a manipulator, giving a wave and a chirp.

"Bailey says 'hi' as well." Joan translates.

Jacen Knight has posed:
Taking his phone into hand he nods,"I'd appreciate that. Never know when someone's gonna ask a question I cain't answer." he replies. He hands her a card with the hospital logo, his name, and contact number as well.

Looking towards Bailey he, he nods,"Hello." he offers pleasantly. He looks at the beam and asks her,"So that beam was pinning him down? You and your droid here put it back up there and set it? I ain' gonna lie I'm curious 'bout that b'cause that thing had ta be heavy."

Joan Wright has posed:
Joan reaches over to take the card before sliding it into a pouch. "Thank you."

To the pleasant greeting, Bailey zooms up briefly before settling back down, seemingly excited.

Joan's smile becomes a little toothy to the display before the lips settle, going back to a more relaxed expression as she looks to Jacen, and then to the indicated beam. "Bailey helps with the inspection process and looking into gaps I can't fit through. I moved the beam." Joan corrects. "And yes those types of beams can be heavy. I'll admit that but It's the overall shape that can be a problem. I had to move slow initially to make sure I didn't accidentally swat them with it."

She offers over a hand, "Oh right, forgot my manners. Joan Wright. Damage Control."

Jacen Knight has posed:
Jacen nods and looks to Bailey again and smiles at the driod. He looks back to Joan,"That's cool." he admits looking at the thing. Sure he has more questions, but he doesn't push his luck,"My old teacher'd compain takin' it offa th' kid mighta revealed a bleed under it, but I kinda think it's worth th' risk ta get th' thing off th' kid."

He shakes his head,"M' teacher w's beyond old. My memories come along and smack me whether I want them to or not."

The offered hand is taken and while he has a hint of a grip, he doesn't squeeze tight, just a firm handshake,"Jacen Masters. Mosta th' hospitals 'round these parts employ me now'n then. No need ta get a steady wh'n all o' them want someone almost constantly. Set m' own schedule that way."

Joan Wright has posed:
"Which is why I asked before doing it and moved slowly." Joan replies back, "I also asked them to tell me if they saw a reason for me to stop. I didn't tell it to move faster to its original location until it was well clear of the teen. Sorry for making you wait a little longer."

When the handshake is done, she lowers her hand. "Nice to meet you Jacen. I do work with first responders a bit with my current job. It's just usually more large scale situations or involving historic buildings. I'd be one of the ones that basically determines which buildings are clear to work on, which ones should be focused on first, and which ones need additional precautions first. And in a pinch..."

She gestures to the beam, "I can do that. Although I'd still have a more traditional specialist work on that beam once things are done here."

Jacen Knight has posed:
A smile slowly crosses his face and he nods,"You're good. I like that. Too many people out there's so quick ta try ta be th' hero'n end up doin' more harm th'n good. As f'r th' wait. Everything worked out good's c'n be expected." His radio chirps and the team tells them they are packed and ready to go."

"Pleasure ta meet ya Joan." he agrees,"Soun's like y'r work ain' ever borin'." He checks the radio and nods, calling back to them after the handshake ends. He looks at the beam and back at her,"Sometime I'd really like ta hear how ya do that. Hopin' I see ya out there again, maybe sometime when th' world ain' comin' down on our heads."

Joan Wright has posed:
Joan nods, "In New York. I'm sure there will be plenty of opportunities to run into each other. Although, I'm not sure on the volume when it happens." A hand moves over to another pouch, retrieving a card and handing it over. This one with her office contact information.

"Just in case the world falling down slows down my paperwork." Joan explains before offering him her card.

Bailey rotates, looking to Joan, then to Jacen, giving several not so happy beeps in response.

"Work related, Bailey! Work related." Joan protests. There's another beep before Bailey folds her manipulators, seemingly pouting.

Jacen Knight has posed:
Jacen takes the offered card and nods,"Prolly right 'bout th' opportunities." he agrees and puts the card in his pocket,"Call me whenever. If I cain' answer leave a message'n I'll get back to ya quick's I can."

He looks at the droid and waves again,"Don' worry Bailey. Jus' f'r business." he assures and looks back to Joan. He gives her a nod and then heads for the weaiting ambulance,"That critter's got more personality th'n some folks I know." he calls and is gone after that.
