The people you run into in the worst settings.
Date of Scene: 10 September 2023
Location: Accident scene north of the city.
Synopsis: Jacen was driving out of the city when he arrives at an accident. Rogue was driving back to the city when she arrives at the same accident. The two work together to help people until fire and rescue can arrive.
Cast of Characters: Jacen Knight, Rogue

Jacen Knight has posed:
Normally an accident would be crawling with police, fire, and rescue. Ouside the city, north and away several miles can change things. There is a car off the road and down on the edge of the road teetering towards a drop into several feet of nothing before hitting hard ground.

Another car has collided with a tree and it has fallen over the roof of the cabin, pining the occupants in. There is a little smoke coming from under the car and a couple are beating on the doors and windows, trying to get out.

Lastly there is a late model, black Ford F-Series that has just stopped. A cowboy in New York state would throw anybody off, but he is running to assess both situations to try and make a decision.

In his phone he is relaying inforamtion to someone,"This is Jacen Masters. I am a paramedic in with multiple New York districts." He recites the mile marker nearest him and starts laying out the situation.

He closes the phone and looks at the two again. Sparks under the second car makes his decision,"Dammit." hse growls and runs towards the car. Reaching under his shirt he pulls out a necklace of animal bones.

Rogue has posed:
Rogue had been pretty preoccupied with things for the past several weeks, but this was a time to get out and unwind a bit. Or so she'd thought. Her own vehicle, a Dodge Charger comes rolling down the roadway. She sees an accident up ahead, and her engine rumbles loudly as she proceeds up toward it. The 69 Charger, black and green, comes to a stop on the opposite side of the road, before the southern belle inside it pops the door. One booted ffoot steps out, followed by the second before she slams her door shut and starts to jog lightly across the street toward the car teetering off off the bridge. Her two-toned hair of chestnut and white locks whips around in the late afternoon breeze as Rogue rushes toward the occupants in the vehicle.

She glances toward the nearby truck, and the guy in the hat moving toward the other vehicle, observing him for a moment before she approaches those in the car.

"Hang tight!" Rogue shouts in to them, before she sweeps her body around behind their vehicle. She sorts her dark green tanktop around her waist, then wipes her hands on the sides of her denim jeans, before she leans down and grasps the back of their car's bumper...

What follows is the rather lithe and model-like young woman just lifting the entire car up ffrom behind, before she starts to walk backward, dragging it back on to the road and away from the edge of the bridge.

Jacen Knight has posed:
Peripherally, he notices the arrival of the Charger. Any other time he would have taken the time to admire the machine and probably the lady that climbed out of it, but he is focused on his problem when he notes her going to the other car.

"Leave 'em in the car 'nless it's on fire'r somethin'." he shouts and hopes she hears what he is saying. He comes to a halt at the other vehicle and focuses only for a moment. For those with spirit vision, they will see a massive bear appear infront of him, rising on its back legs and roaring silently into the void. The tree is big and heavy, but he lifts it from the other vehicle and trudges away from the car,"If you c'n get out, move." he shouts to them. Fire starts to catch under the car and spinal injuries take a back seat to being burned alive and he can't get it out until the tree isn't a problem anymore.

Rogue has posed:
Rogue definitely doesn't have any kind of Spirit Vision, but she does glance back over to the guy in the hat as he deals with the other situation. She pulls the car ffully back on to the road, leaving it down in front of the Pickup Truck before she moves around toward the passengers inside it again. She heard him shout about leaving them in the car, but that doesn't stop her from pulling the driver side door open. She extends a hand to stop the driver then and spends a few moments talking to them before she helps by forcing the stuck window down with a stroke of her hands across the glass. She's surprised it didn't break, but either way, the door is closed again and the two inside the car stay inside it.

Rogue, meanwhile, turns to the man and the other vehicle. She starts jogging over toward him and the situation he's dealing with. "Ya need some help?" She calls out as she approaches. "Need that tree taken down?" She asks further.

Jacen Knight has posed:
Once the tree is off the car he looks for a place to deposit it. Hearing her voice he turns and looks her direction. He sees the other vehicle back up on the road. He sets the tree down and replies,"If you c'n get this outa th' way I c'n deal with the fire b'fore it spreads'n assess people."

His hand moves to a leather pouch on his hip and another spirit animal appears as a pronghorn deer races ahead of him. He doesn't move like the Flash, but he runs back to the truck faster than an olympic runner despite being in cowboy boots.

He comes back from the truck with a large fire extinguisher and races at the fire that starts to spread,"Thanks f'r stoppin'." he calls to her as he runs at the burning vehicle, pretty much against every paramedic rule in the book and doing it anyway.

Rogue has posed:
Rogue just moves to help with the tree either way. She jogs past the car, her body lifting up off of the ground with an invisible hand seemingly carrying her over to the trunk of the tree. She aids him in moving it aside before she drops back down on to her booted feet upon the ground near to the vehicle itself. She eyes the cowoby as she sees him returning with the fire extinguisher.

"This just a random accident?" She calls out, assuming that he was here to witness it rather than just drive by after it'd happened like she has.

Either way, Rogue steps off to the side to observe, her hands coming up to brush her white bangs out of her face as she observes.

Jacen Knight has posed:
He notices her flying from the ground and just marks it to his memory for now. Fire suppression erupts from the extinguisher and he puts the fire out. Once he is satidfied that things are out for sure he moves towards the couple. He peels a door off the driver side as well as it is jammed. Rubber gloves appear on his hands and he starts to check for bleeding.

"Marie right? It's been a minute." he calls to her from the cabin,"C'n ya make sure th' others ain' bleedin' fast? Don't touch the blood, I just need ta make sure I don't hafta stop a gusher'r nothin'."

Satisfied he moves around to the other side of the car, telling the driver,"Leave y'r head against the rest'n don' move it. I ain' got enough c-collars an' yours ain' obvious if it's hurt."

Rogue has posed:
Rogue's green eyes narrow when he calls her out by her name. It'd been a long time since they'd seen each other, but now that she's got a look at him she can remember where she'd seen him last. She doesn't comment on it, just nods her head and moves to the other vehicle passenger. She has that door open quite easily, and spends a few moments speaking to them in her Mississippi Belle accent. "Just hold tight, ya got help already here." Rogue assures them before she starts to move around to the front of the vehicle to check where it had caught fire.

It looks okay now though, which leads her to moving around back to stand beside the road a few steps back. Her phone is taken out, so that she can make sure help is on the way to deal with this. She used to be a public super hero, but she'd recently been 'fired' from that job. But what does it mean to be a public hero anyway?

Jacen Knight has posed:
"Breathin', but cyanotic." he mutters to himself and steps out of the car. He sprints back to the truck again and pulls a large bag out of the back seat. He runs back and starts opening the bag again. In a few moments he has a c-collar on her, he opens a valve on a protable oxygen tank, and a mask is on the other patient's mouth. Carefully he moves the driver's hand to the horn and says,"If she loses conciousness honk." Smart? No. Necessaryt? Yes.

He takes takes a few things from the bag and races over to the other vehicle,"Tell'm steady vitals on one, th' other is steady pulse, but on oxygen an' cyanotic." he instructs as he goes past to the other car.

As he moves to the car he replies to the other comment earlier,"I w's on m' way ta m' ranch f'r a coupla days'n drove up on this. Kinda says no to th' day off f'r th' moment." he admits. Then he settles into accessing the next patient.

Rogue has posed:
Rogue just takes a ffew pictures of the scene, snapping off a bunch for whatever purposes before she sends a few texts. She glances up to see the EMT Cowboy doing what he does, which just has her quietly nodding when he does respond to her. "Well, if this has to happen, at least they had the right fella nearby to respond to it." She says back to him in her naturally smoky pitched voice. "Ya'll are in good hands now." Rogue says to the people he's giving medical treatment too. "And I think the responders are just down the road now." She tells them. "So sit tight."

To Jacen then, Rogue tilts her head. "Ya need any help with anything?" She asks him then, her phone being slipped back in to her back right pocket now as her arms fold over her stomach.

Jacen Knight has posed:
"Timin's everything." he replies with a touch of a laugh in his voice. The driver gets a nod and direction to stay sitting still. He moves around to the passenger and calls to her,"I owe ya drink'n dinner f'r sure. Any time." he calls to her. He gets real quiet over there then and he starts doing several things. His hands moving pretty fast,"Dammit..." he mutters and carefully moves the passenger out.

He gets a collar on the woman and carefully starts to pull her out,"Yeah I'm gonna need y'r help f'r sure." he explains and lays the woman down.

In the distance sirens are heard clearly as the vehicles draw close. The woman hisses and hollers a little at something, almost a scream,"I know it hurts, workin' on it." he tells her softly.

Rogue has posed:
Rogue continues to just observe with her arms crossed over her stomach and her two-toned hair flowing in the wind behind her shoulders. She nods softly to what the Cowboy says before her eyes go to the south to watch the Emergency vehicles drawing nearer.

When she sees him getting that person out of the vehicle, she slips on a pair of gloves that she pulled out of her left back pocket, and begins to wiggle her hands in to them as she walks over to join them.

"Just gotta remember, and remind ourselves, this could've been worse. Way worse, based on my experience." Rogue states, trying to offer some words of comfort for the people who are having a very bad day today.

Jacen Knight has posed:
Stepping around the woman, Jacen sits and pats the ground next to him. He positions the patient's legs in a four shape and when it does, the unbent leg is obviously not right. The upper leg is misshaped.

"Sit here. Put y'r left foot on her shin, take her left ankle in hand like this..." he mimes how he wants her to hold,"...then gently pull and you're gonna be stuck there 'ntil I c'n get a Saeger splint off th' ambo comin' in. She's gotta femur fracture and it is biting inta the muscle of her leg'n it screamin' painful she's just'n too much shock ta realize right now."

Once he's made things real clear and sees she is getting settled, the other car horn honks. A sigh and he tells her,"Jus' stay here'n watch th' driver too. Once th' first r'sponders arrive call out ta them'n let'm know ya need a Saeger splint...." he pauses and looks at the woman,"...set f'r 130 pounds."

Off he goes again, moving faster than normal again to get to the other car. Whatever is happening, the horn stops immediately and he is calling out to the patient and trying to establish what else is happening.

Rogue has posed:
Rogue is quick to do as he instructs, seated and using her now gloved hands to hold where needed, and put as much pressure as she can to try and do this right, but not over-due it. "Bare in mind, my strength maxes out around seventy to seventy five tons. So this is a fair bit of very detailed work for me to try and be precise." But, that's why she's trained in the Danger Room for five years, to try and get that kind of precision in to her mind. It's worked, but sometimes she can screw up too. She's only Human afterall. Human-Superior anyway.

Rogue glances to the other vehicle, then nods to what Jacen says. She just sits tight, and holds until the EMT vehicles arrive. She's offering a ffew words of wisdom to the patient, and offering some kind of conversational distraction to them too to get their mind off of what's going on.

But by the time the pros arrive, Rogue will yield to their expertise, and offer a bit of insight that Jacen had relayed to her too.

Within minutes though, and Rogue is stepping back again, once more sorting out her shirt around her waistline as she watches.

Jacen Knight has posed:
Whatever was happening, it settles and Jacen is able to meet the emergency crews as they arrive. The ones that join him are directed as to what he's done and once their equipment is in place he takes his out of the way. The c-collars stay, but the oxygen tank goes with him.

The medics take the information Rogue gives them and puts a strange contraption on the woman's leg that pulls on the leg same as she was just doing.

Another ambulance arrives and two are stretchered out while the other two are carefully walked. Jacen exhanges infomation with the authorities and agrees to come to the hospital in the morning to check on things even though he had plans. The last of the doors close, he pats the back door like a habit, and goes to collect his gear again.

Walking towards the bag he glances towards Rogue and smirks,"Hey. I think I know you. Sorry if I w's too abrupt earlier." He motions towards the vehicles,"Th' police said they'd like me ta move m' truck. Shoulda asked ya ta do that too."

Rogue has posed:
Rogue is just standing there with a couple of the local Police when all is said and done. Thing is, she knows a lot of the Cops in this area by now, and they're both talking to her casually. She's even smirking at something one of them says to her before they part ways, and Rogue is left there just pushing her gloved fingers in to the tops of her hip pockets. It is then that Jacen approaches her, and she regards him.

"Yeah, I remember ya." She says at him with a soft smile. "Figured you'd moved back home. Guess I was wrong. An' don't worry about it, you're plenty busy in a situation like this." She states, her slim poitned chin nodding toward the vehicles. "Glad I was able to help out, if at least a little bit." The Belle says further before she regards him again.

"Least nobody was worse off, or... ya know." She eludes then.

Jacen Knight has posed:
Jacen nods to a few of the officers, not really knowing them this far north, but at least his credentials on his belt mark him as a paramedic so they nod in kind as well. He starts to truck and moves the truck where indicated and then shuts it down to walk towards her again.

"Nah I stuck around. Jus' been really busy. Sometimes busy enough I r'gret not takin' another modelin' gig." A wink her way so she knows that is definately a joke.

A nod and he admits,"I wanted ta head home a few times, but a coupla other opportunities come up'n so I'm still around." He laughs softly and admits,"I c'n get kinda short when dealin' with too many patients'n no back up ta control a scene'r handle sudden changes." There is a shrug and smile,"Hey I w's glad ta see ya f'r sure. Definately glad we didn' hafta fill out toe tags f'r sure." Gathering his gear again, he moves to put it in the back seat of the truck. If she is looking, she will notice he still has a bag with rodeo gear in the floor board as well. Retired or not, old habits die hard,"Looks like you w's headin' back ta th' city. C'n I get ya drink'n dinner f'r backin' me up'n coverin' my ass?"

Rogue has posed:
Rogue simply stands there off to the side of the road, watching the situation being handled by the recently arrived paramedics and various other services. It's a sight she's seen a lot, especially after that public super heroing gig. But, the young woman does look over to the Cowboy as he is putting his things away in the back of his truck. She observes the contents of the truck, and just softly smirks before he is walking her way again.

His question garners a moment of thought as she considers it. "Uh. Oh. I mean, probably could. Was just headed back home after tendin' to some errands that I needed to take care of. Been pretty busy lately with some ... pretty dramatic stuff. But that's all handled now, hopefully. Gotta head to Washington DC in the mornin' though, t'make sure the rest of it ends up headed in the right direction. We hope anyway."

She smirks at him again then. "I'm glad to know you're still around though, fightin' the good fight, to help folks out like this. Classic hero work, I'd say."

Jacen Knight has posed:
Once he is sure everything is settled in place, Jacen looks the area over to see about anything missing. He nods to himself and indicates back to the north a ways,"Well. There's a decent road side truck stop 'bout five miles that way. Pertty good chicken fried steak, tenderloins, an' burgers." he suggests and finally takes a deep breath, exhaling towards the truck, relaxing from the stress of the situation.

Looking her way again he nods,"Now, 'bout twenty miles on up th' way's my ranch. Got fresh steaks, Budweiser, Corona, peace'n quiet."

Listening to her talk about being busy and about the trip to Washinnton DC,"Soun's like maybe th' short trips'n order." he suggests. You're welcome at my place of course, but soun's like maybe quick bite might be th' best choice."

A soft chuckle and he agrees,"Yeah. Still gettin' upta my neck'n things f'r sure. Kinda figger that's gonna be m' life. Tryin' ta get people outa messes they get into in as few pieces as possible."

Rogue has posed:
Once more Rogue is folding her arms across her stomach as Jacen makes his suggestions. She shows a light smile toward him as she considers before shaking her head lightly. "Harry's Hideaway is a nice bar just down the street. It's right near Greymalkin Lane... YOu've been there before, as I recall. It'd be a good place t'go, I think." She says back to him before she glances toward one of the Cops who calls her name out.

She turns to face the Cop who she shares a few words with, him giving her some inside info on who these people were that she had asked them about earlier. When the Cop separates again, Rogue looks back to the Cowboy.

"Less you're dead-set on a truck stop food over Harry's fine dinin'." She jests with a soft grin.

Jacen Knight has posed:
He's a lot of things, but dead set on anywhere is rarely one of them. He was heading home earlier after all. He returns and smiles,"Harry's Hideaway soun's good. It's been a while since I w's there'n it looks like I'm gonna hafta swing in f'r a little bit't th' hospital anyway. Might's well getta good mean b'fore that. Reckon I'll meet ya there."

He heads back towards the truck and one of the cops asks him about the other bag in the truck. He explains it, the cop nods and asks another question. Jacen laughs softly and nods. He reaches into the bag and pulls out a glossy photo and a marker,"What's her name?" he asks and then scratches on the picture.

Once that is done he looks to Rogue,"Y'all ready?" The smile is one part apology and one part "why me?".

Rogue has posed:
Rogue has her phone out to send off a few more texts while Jacen tends to his business. When he asks if she's ready, she's looking up at him again, briefly looking around the scene once more before she glances back his way.

"Sure thing, I'll head toward the bar. See ya there." She tells him then before she turns to walk toward her classic muscle car.

"Make sure ya drive safe." She says in a dry bit of humor etched in to her naturally husky toned voice.

She's slipped in to her car within moments, and has its engine rumbling to life again.

Jacen Knight has posed:
The duo make their way back to Harry's. It is clear he hasn't been there for a while as he looks the place over. Conversation is light and easy, questions answered and a few asked. For the most part he is still defragging from the wreck and is glad to have company.

True to his word, he gets her whatever she wants to eat. When they part ways he thanks her for her help again and wishes her luck on her trip to Washington. If she tells him anything about it, he listens. If she doesn't he doesn't press. When they part he is off to the hospital to check on the patients and eventually he makes it out of the city and back to his ranch.
