Midgard Has Stupid Laws
Date of Scene: 22 September 2023
Location: Downtown Manhattan
Synopsis: Matt Murdock is a good lawyer after all! Thanks to Daisy's recommendation, he was hired by Sif. He was able to get the case against Sif dismissed.
Cast of Characters: Matthew Murdock, Daisy Johnson, Sif

Matthew Murdock has posed:
"The court will now hear motions regarding the case of bin Zayed versus the state of Manhattan,"
In the Thurgood Marshall building in Lower Manhattan, it was always a madhouse. In a perpetual state of chaos, it would take a genius to be able to truly discern what is occurring in the depths of the grand building. It usually takes a lawyer to be able to figure out what is happening in a small corner of it. And sometimes even then... that does not always guarantee the case.
Justice O'Halloran frowned from his place on the bench, looking down at the bevy of paperwork that was involved in judicating this particular matter. A conflict of some sort... a gathering of individuals that performed vigilante justice. One of which was a public servant? His wizened brow furrowed then he looked up as tall man in a grey suit stepped through the gate that divided the people from the state.
"We have a motion for splitting the civil case from the class action? From a Sif. Of Asgard. Well. Wonders never cease? Mister Murdock?"
"Yes, your honor. My client was present during the activities on the date in question but was not an active participant. Neither aided nor hindered nor took part in the damages that took place to the plaintiff's property."
Judge O'Halloran grunted as he was handed the file from the bailiff for his perusal.
"I also have a motion to dismiss, your honor."

Daisy Johnson has posed:
It wasn't often that Daisy got the opportunity to see Matt at work, even if she often got plenty of the 'offerings' given to his office. Like those delicious pies that only the people in Hell's Kitchen knew how to do. But to be inside Court itself? Not really. She really didn't like it at all, and she certainly didn't like to be reminded about the consequences of her actions when she was out being a hero, or a vigilante as some could call it.

Though today she was here in OFFICIAL business. To serve as liaison between SHIELD and this court case against an Asgardian. A novelty really as not many dared to make a complaint against an Asgardian but there was a first time for everything.

"Listen, they will just be going through the motions and nothing will come of it." She says in assurance to Sif in a low voice. Currently Daisy is sitting down on one of the benches, sharply dressed in a button up shirt and pants. Somehow they don't like jeans inside a courthouse.

Sif has posed:
Sif was seated next to Daisy in the front row. She had dressed in the appropriate attire by Midgard standards. A pair of black dress slacks, a button up blouse in red. She even had a little blazer over it in a matching black. Only reason was because it had helped hide weapons. Yet there was some rule against weapons and thus she had to leave them outside secured in the vehicle of Agent Johnson.

"I will never understand your ways here. Ritual combat and be done with it." She glanced toward the defense table then back to Daisy, making sure to keep her voice very low so as not to disturb the court proceedings. "I am positive I could defeat his entire defense team, and him included." A hint of smugness in her whispered tone. "Even without weapons."

She was still a bit salty about that one.

Matthew Murdock has posed:
As the judge perused the paperwork, Matt Murdock stood there in one of his five Court Day suits, his cane held before him in both hands, one hand lightly around the grip. He kept his head held high, the mirrored lenses of his glasses reflecting the world back upon itself as he awaited the word.
There's the slight sound of paper shifting, pages turning. Looking down from the bench, Judge O'Halloran nods slowly. "Matches the reports," Another slight flip of papers rustling is heard.
Another long pause, someone in the gallery coughs. Apparently a few nervous glances are sent Sif and Daisy's way from people nearest with the highest potential for eavesdropping. Then the judge speaks again.
    "Basis for dismissal?"
"Referencing the judgement in the case of Van Hill versus Framingham. While not a duly designated Ambassador, my client fits the requirements for the designation instead as Coterie in the 1804 decision. Regarding cultural influences. Thus is entitled to in turn diplomatic immunity. The verification and validation is included in the brief, your honor." Matt lowers his cane slightly with a faint click that is heard.
    That guy coughs again.
The Judge nods, and takes a moment to look up and over at the pair of Sif and Daisy, since really... they do stand out to a degree. He looks back, "Motion granted, bailiff?"
At the word from the Judge the bailiff advances to accept the paperwork. The gavel strikes, but then the court gets back on track with the main body of the case.
Matt's already turning and heading to the gate to depart while the voices of the other lawyers is heard.

Daisy Johnson has posed:
As Sif speaks of ritualistic combat there's a grin out of Daisy that doesn't devolve into a laugh because she makes sure to cover it with a brief cough, followed by a brush of fingers over her dark hair to hide her expression. Sometimes she forgets how straightforward Asgardians can be into solving things, "We have lost that tradition a few centuries back." she admits back to Sif, "Though sometimes you just wish you could punch someone." a beat, "A few times..." she had the urge in the past. Quite a few times already.

"But now ..., time to watch the magic at work.." A touch of a grin to her expression and her attention going to Matt as the man works the judge to a dismissal. Diplomatic immunity. That makes her arch a brow and nod just so. "And just like that ..." she says as the judge strikes the gavel to dismiss the trial. "We are done..."

She gets up to her feet as well, "Come on." she tells Sif, "Let's go meet Matt outside."

Sif has posed:
Now Sif looks confused. She glanced over to Daisy then back to the front of the courtroom. Matt was heading back toward the door to exit. The judge was moving on to something else. Brow still furrowed, Sif stood and turned to follow Daisy.

"It's over? No wonder there are no song singing of the battles in Midgardian law."

To say it was anticlimactic for someone used to blood being spilled pretty often in conflicts was an understatement. But she had no idea what had actually happened and thus trailed along with Daisy until they got out of the courtroom and she sought out Matt there, standing tall enough she could see over a lot of people's heads.

"Matthew Murdock!" she called out before they closed the distance. "I thank you for ending that distasteful situation. Though I admit I am unsure what happened. We are done with it? I will not need to deal with the annoying man again in the future?"

Matthew Murdock has posed:
It doesn't take too long, though Daisy is likely more used to it. The way Matt has has to ever so slightly take a little bit more time navigating the paths of society to present that subtle plausibility to his manner. The slight clicks of his cane and the polite smile given now and again as he heads toward the door and then out.
Once they are outside the courtroom in the hall, the place is still abustle as Justice Waits for No Man. Though the gentle dulcet tones of the wild Sif is heard as her voice echoes up and down the hall, carrying with it his name. Wonderful. There's the subtlest wince seen on his features, though likely more noticeable by Daisy as she's used to those mannerisms of his. Yet he doesn't let it phase him. That smile is back on his face, his footsteps carry him down the way, accompanied by that click.
Once he draws near enough that they can see themselves in those reddish lenses of his glasses, he turns his head slightly. "Agent Johnson." A touch overly formal, but then his smile widens ever so slightly, that warm touch of sincerity as he takes her hand and touches a small kiss to her cheek. Subdued due to the setting, of course. But then he turns his head slightly to the side partially in Sif's direction. "Lady Sif. Relatively painless?"

Daisy Johnson has posed:
"What do you mean? It was a masterful stroke worthy of the best lawyer series." Daisy says it with that kind of tone that has spent some time watching those. Look, there's a lot of downtime in hacking! Specially when you are waiting for a cypher to be broken down, "Sublime. Though I suppose can't really wring much of a song out of it, no." she admits, taking a turn over towards the hallway.

"Sometimes it's good to appreciate this stuff too." She says, "Did you know I saw Thor the other day at the park? Was playing chess.." Oh yes, she didn't want to believe it at the time either.

But then Sif is calling out Matt with that booming voice and there's a wince mostly due to how she knows it can affect Matt if he isn't expecting it. The formality out of Matt is returned with a simple, "Shark." a smirk to her lips and she returning the man's kiss, hand squeezing his just so.

Sif has posed:
Not being in on the secret, there is no noticing the wince from the raised voice moment. After all, that's a bit more nuanced than Sif tends to be. Especially since there had been a little distance between them. While Daisy might be able to read expressions, Sif looked for people grabbing weapons. Which, apparently was not a danger in the courthouse. So odd.

"Very much painless. It seemed no blows were thrown at all." Which shows that she sums things down to their simplest forms as she still doesn't get it. "So you simply told him to remove me from the case and it was so? Amazing. And simple." She furrowed her brow in thought them looked between them.

"Or perhaps not so easy and you make it seem that way, is the better summation?" A nod as she decied that was it. I thank you, Matthew Murdock. Daisy Johnson did well in recommending you. It will allow me to no longer have concerns for this and focus on other matters that need my attention."

Matthew Murdock has posed:
Matt's nose crinkles slightly as he half-smirks, the faintest of signs at her oh so ruffling feathers with that single word. Though his hand squeezes hers again gently, that small silent rapport shared between two who have known each other for a good amount of time.
Then he tilts his head in Sif's direction, chin lifting slightly to address the tall woman, his smile still there and his manner at ease. Despite the shouting of earlier. "Anyone could have done it, Lady Sif. I just have a good memory for old cases. That one had been kicking around in my brain for a while, curious if it'll make any waves down the line."
As he says that he turns to the right slightly, shifting that focus to Daisy, "You have time for lunch or do you have to get back to work? I don't have to be back here until 2."
There's a brief moment as his head tilts slightly to the side before he adds, "Lady Sif, you are also welcome to join us if you have no other plans?"

Daisy Johnson has posed:
"Depends on how satisfied that bin Sayed will be. We know he's been hitting on vigilantes as of late with these kind of cases." A faint frown coming to her expression as Daisy explains it to the duo, "Part of why we are being represented here today." with 'we' being SHIELD. And Daisy being part of the Secret Warriors means she is one of the most appropriate to make that connection to the other heroes.

"Good that you ask. I am famished." which means yes! Then there's a couple of seconds of silence. Are they communicating without talking?! Who knows. But then the invitation to Sif comes.

"We'd be glad to have you join us." she says back to Sif, "I am sure your other matters can wait a touch longer."

Sif has posed:
While Sif does not catch all the nuance that isn't something with her and her own friends, she isn't blind. The held hands, the casual touch of familiarity, the shared kiss upon greeting that she knew from her lessons in Midgardian etiquette was not normal for the United States. Some other countries perhaps but not here.

She also knew the concept of the third wheel, even if it had another name in Asgard. "I would enjoy it but perhaps you should have some time to yourselves. I do not wish to intrude."

A nod to each of them. "Though I thank you both again. And should there be future legal troubles, I will be certain to seek you out, Matthew Murdock." A smile to both then focusing on Daisy. "Do let me know if you have need of me in the future, Agent Daisy Johnson. Or you of course," she added to Matt.

Matthew Murdock has posed:
Matt lowers his head slightly, then murmurs, "What are you thinkin', I'm thinkin'... Garry's House of Pizza or..." He turns his head a little to the side, easing back on the choosing since he knows Daisy might have better insight upon what Sif might like to eat. So when she reinforces the invitation he gives a smile to back up the SHIELD agent's words.
Perhaps there's a squeezed hand on the part of one party or another, but whomever it originates with the end result is Matt shaking his head, "It would be no intrusion, you'd be welcome. It could be an excuse for us to go somewhere..." He turns his head, not quite 'looking' at Daisy, but more in her direction. "Where we don't have to eat standing up?" That last thing said causes him to smile a little crookedly. Garry's is good pizza, but it's also not the... fanciest of places.

Daisy Johnson has posed:
"Garry's...?!" Daisy makes a face at that, scrunching up her nose, "Either that or the Royal Dragon, but not sure if our guest can take on the JJ special..." the chicken with bourbon. Or is it bourbon with chicken? Though of course it's all a RUSE to see if Sif rises to the challenge of eating a plate someone says she won't be able to TAKE. Because Daisy is evil like that. And manipulative.

Specially when she wants to have a good time at lunch.

"Come on, we can go and just relax a bit after the trial. You can tell us how things have been on your end. Maybe some adventures." she grins, always up to listening to some of those.

Sif has posed:
If the food wasn't tempting her, along with a challenge of some sort, someone wanting to hear tales of adventure? Daisy had learned how to manipulate Asgardians well.

"If you are both certain, I could eat an entire boar admittedly." Translation to English: She was hungry.

Then she turned to lead the way to the elevators that would take them down as her size and bearing worked much like the prow on a ship, just parting the waters of humanity before them and allowing the couple to follow in her wake. "Someplace to sit would be good. With good beer would be better. Outside that, I am not picky." And she pushed the button the call the elevator.

Matthew Murdock has posed:
"Well," Matt says, head turning a little back in Sif's direction, "I don't think they serve boars, but Royal Dragon would be pretty great." He shifts his hand a little, cane settling into his right as he turns and starts to walk in the direction of those large double doors that lead out of the courthouse and down upon the street. Those famous steps where all the police procedurals are filmed await them.
A small final hand squeeze and a smile is offered sidelong toward Daisy, then he's moving, just quick enough to get there a step before them, letting him push open the door and hold it for the two women. "And yes, adventures would be good to hear. My life's so focused and mundane compared to what you two must face on a daily basis. Though Daisy tells me so little." He says with a hint of admonishment. As if she was so cruel to him.
