A Long Way For Some Cheesecake, But It Was Worth It!
Date of Scene: 17 December 2023
Location: A Restaurant Two Hours Outside New York
Synopsis: Robbie takes River to a cheesecake place way upstate. But it was totally worth it!
Cast of Characters: Robbie Reyes, Phoebe Beacon

Robbie Reyes has posed:
Is it really kidnapping if you do not cross state lines? Robbie thought he heard that in a movie once, but maybe that was some other detail that eluded him. All he knew is that Phoebe had been working really hard lately, later nights than usual, trying to crack a case, advance herself, and fight crime all at once. And so he had a scheme in mind, ready and waiting.
It did not take long, once he had it, for the situation to present itself. Phoebe had asked him to pick her up, but had never actually specified a destination. Perhaps she expected it to be her apartment. But she fell asleep, and Robbie had other ideas in mind.
He pulled the Hellcharger off the road, the crunch of gravel beneath the tires making its tell tale sound as he slowed to park, glancing over at Phoebe, who has been lights out for almost two hours at this point.
This would definitely be kidnapping, he supposes. Hopefully she does not press charges.
At least, not before she gets what he brought her here for. In the bright lights of the neon, the promise of the states's best cheesecake.
Ok, let's see if the drive was better than Junior's.

Phoebe Beacon has posed:
Technically it's kidnapping. Phoebe hadn't specified. And in all honesty, it's not like her to fall asleep in the Hellcharger when she wasn't wiped from healing drastic injuries. Though she was used to the way the magic energies worked against one another -- demonic car and everything -- it didn't mean that she wanted to fall asleep. But the sound of rain hitting the windshield from Gotham, the steady beat of the wipers, the familiar scent of leather, motor oil and burning metal that accompanied Robbie made it downright cozy, and she had drifted off.

She feels the engine drop to an idle, the beast with the BTS intake ceasing a prowl before she rouses. Her eyes are squinting. Her lips purse as she looks around in confusion.

"Robbie where are..." she pauses, and she looks up to the neon light promising *the* best cheesecake in New York.

". . . ohmigod you took me for cheesecake?" she pauses, and turns to lean into RObbie and kiss his cheek. "You are -- the best."

Robbie Reyes has posed:
A warm smile breaks out onto Robbie's face. "I try, munequita." He turns the car off and turns to face Phoebe. "I hope it's good, but even if it's not better than anything in the city, it's still cheesecake." ANd there was no such thing as bad cheesecake.
The rain had finally stopped about 15 minutes ago, and so he opens the door and hops out, moving towards the restaurant and opening the door to usher Phoebe in ahead of him.

Phoebe Beacon has posed:
"You succeed, wonderfully." the girl with the pink hair comments, smiling against his cheek before she draws back to fluff out her hair, and then taking a deep breath, she hikes up her jacket and swings her legs out through the opened door of the Charger, and steps through to the restaurant, looking about with eager eyes."

"I think I've heard of this place. Alfred keeps tabs on 'award winning' desserts." she explains quietly.

Robbie Reyes has posed:
"It makes sense, especially if he is trying to poach recipes." Robbie follows in after her, and then nods towards the display case with a variety of cheesecake slices. "I'm glad you're happy, I wasn't sure if you'd want to take the ride, but i figured since you were asleep, you wouldn't even notice how long it took to get here."
Robbie did, but he was dedicated to bringing happiness to Phoebe. So long ride or not, her smile made it all worth it.

Phoebe Beacon has posed:
And happiness was what Phoebe had with Robbie.

"This is the second time you've kidnapped me in two months." Phoebe gives a wry smile as she looks from the case of cheesecake to the demon-possessed mechanic. "I'm beginning to think you like having me under your control, Jefe." she jokes, looping her arm with his leather jacket clad arm, and giving a bright grin to him.

"So, other than cheesecake what's this place got? Hope they have decent vegetarian fare, buuuut I'm going to guess it's 'salad'." she jokes.

Robbie Reyes has posed:
"Is it about control, or about bringing you places you'd argue yourself out of if I didn't?" counters Robbie as he regards Phoebe at his side. He shrugs when she asks about other food. "I think it's just the cheesecake they're known for." He lets loose a soft yawn. "You really hungry for a meal? I thought this would just be dessert, but I got nowhere to be in the morning."

Phoebe Beacon has posed:
Yawns are contagious. Phoebe is fighting yawning after seeing Robbie yawn.

"Maybe a little of both?" Phoebe offers as she returns a smile, and gives a nod "all right, I get it." she check her phone briefly "So a two hour drive for Cheesecake, *and* you're off tomorrow morning? Hrrm... maybe I can get outta my night work tonight..." Phoebe trails off with a teasing note in her voice.

Robbie Reyes has posed:
Robbie tries to suppress the yawn, but too late, before he sees Phoebe copy him. "Sorry, didn't mean to do that."
He shrugs. "Pick out what you'd like, really. I don't mind." He grins a bit as she mentions the drive, and then he just shrugs. "It made sense when I planned it out. Didn't think about the fact that it's also two hours back, but..." He slides up behind Phoebe, wrapping his arms around her waist from behind. "It's worth it to see you smile." He leans forward and brushes his lips against her cheek.

Phoebe Beacon has posed:
"With the way you drive the only thing that's surprising is that it was two hou--" Phoebe squeaks as she straightens, feeling arms around her waist, and she pauses, looking up and over her shoulder at Robbie with a bright grin.

"You are the biggest dork." she states affectionately, her arms crossing over his as she bumps back against him, looking at all the cheesecake as he kisses her cheek. She brushes her fingers over his hands.

"Hey, I'm your Ride or Die. And I kinda like the riding part. In your car. On the passenger seat." she adds, going further away from the obvious innuendo.

Robbie Reyes has posed:
"Three hours normally, babe," replies Robbie, kissing her cheek again with a laugh.
He lingers against her back as she makes her selection, laughing softly at the innuendo. Or the drifting away from it. "I'll take you anywhere you're willing to be, chica." His fingers tighten at her waist.

Phoebe Beacon has posed:
"Somethin' tells me you're not thinking about the cake in front of /me/." Phoebe breathes out as his fingers tighten against her, and she leans back against his warmth. "All right, Caramel Turtle Cheesecake, I think. What're you gettin'? Am I buying since you drove?" she grins, at least making the offer to pay for their Cheesecake of Good QUality.

Robbie Reyes has posed:
"Oh, I'm definitely thinking about the cake in front of me." That clarification does not necessarily do much for her point, as Robbie laughs. He shrugs as he looks over the options, and then lifts a hand to point. "I gotta see what they're calling tres leches cheesecake." He laughs a bit and leans forward to kiss her gently at the neck. "You want to bring them home, or eat them here?"

Phoebe Beacon has posed:
"Mmhmm I know you're thinking about the cake in fronna you." Phoebe gives a small grin, but Robbie might be able to see her ears darken from behind, and she's blushing.

"Tres leches -- three milks? So condensed milk, whole milk... goat milk? Almond milk? Milkduds?" Phoebe asks teasingly; her Spanish IS getting better. Slowly. With Robbie's help sometimes. At least her accent on it's better and not stained with Joisey.

"Why don't we get them to go. You're already yawning, and I don't think I'm ready to drive your car... I already wrecked a transmission this year."

Robbie Reyes has posed:
"Close. Condensed milk, whole milk, heavy cream." Robbie brushes his lips against the side of her neck. "My mama makes the best. Although abuela's isn't bad, either."
He nods at her suggestion, stifling another yawn, before he steps back. "Sounds good. Just don't make any messes in the car that you aren't gonna be willing to clean up." He flashes her a grin, and waits for her to pay.

Phoebe Beacon has posed:
Robbie would be able to see the goosebumps when he pulls away from kissing the side of her neck. And probably feel her press back against him and the way her shoulders and stomach tighten.

"Hey, HEY -- I cleaned up the gummy sharks!" she protests as she swipes the black WAYNE ENTERPRISES card. So fancy.

And she leaves a cash tip in the form of many Benjamins. Because she's a Wayne and she's a big fan of 'tipping the rent'.

She takes the packed cheesecake, and turns back to Robbie.

"Usually it's a grandparent that made the best but -- y'know, I didn't have those. Closest I have is my friend Nick's Nana and Pops, and my friend Nacho's Mimi. And Alfred, I suppose... but he's... y'know. Sort of guardian. Sort of... Bruce's... butler."

Robbie Reyes has posed:
"I would never suspect that anything could beat anything Alfred could make," replies Robbie. "Someday, maybe I'll get to sample some of it."

The elusive three hour away cheesecake procured, Robbie offers an arm to escort Phoebe back towards the Hellcharger outside. "If I get a move on, I can probably get us back and still have some time to sleep before morning," he says, stifling another yawn.

Phoebe Beacon has posed:
"You going to nap at the Curio, or just drop me off and head home?" Phoebe inquires as she carefully wraps the cheesecake in its plastic bag, putting it in the footwell of the passenger seat. "Even more important... do... you need me to, y'know. Portal you back?" she questions, pursing her lips "Not sure how the Hellcharger would take it."

Robbie Reyes has posed:
Glancing down at his dashboard, Robbie considers that for a moment, before shaking his head. "I don't think we want to take the change of bringing anything with this energy through a portal, chica." He fires up the Hellcharger and backs out of the spot, before turning and pulling out onto the road.
"I got this. Don't worry. It's later now, so maybe more like an hour and a half to get back, with fewer cops out."
He turns to look at Phoebe, reaching up with his right hand to run it down her cheek.
"You're totally worth it," he says, without pause or hesitation, as he turns the Hellcharger onto the highway and the one and a half hour trip back home...
